I believe folks in the Viper ROM thread have updated their firmware and are still using ViperROM with no issues.

Your running viper with problems? My backup won't restore. Maybe I should do a fresh installed to get back to the viper Rom

I can't say anything for viper rom. But one thing i noticed when i switch from jb to ics is that my DATA backup in twrp (from jb) did not transfer back to ics. I had to restore a previous ics DATA backup for my phone to boot correctly.
See if a fresh ics install works first, then restore data.

My ics backups from twrp wont restore either. i tried a fresh install of viperrom and it wont boot up. Which fresh ics rom did you use?

First I wiped cache, dalvic cache, factory reset, then wiped system. after that I installed stock with goodies 2.16 (being s-off) and it booted to ics no problem. I then restored my jb backup data and my phone didnt load the os. It finally loaded when i restored it with my ics backup data i made earlier before i upgraded to jb.
If your s-on i cant be certain that ics will load up. but you can try fastboot flashing the boot.img file inside the rom zip.

I am s-on. I'll try to flash the boot.img hopefully that will work. I'm really not liking this jb update.

It's the kernel. I couldn't go back either until I flashed a different kernel

[Q] From 2.2.1 to GB

I just switched over to HTC TB last week. I rooted it and put in Tesla Coil 1.7.1., which runs magnificently.
But I feel I should update it to Gingerbread.
Would that be possible by just flashing a GB rom?
Or do I have to do a manual update first?
Thanks for the help
Everything is new to me now since I switched over from Droid X.
If you have a custom recovery, which you should...then you just flash the ROM (from recovery) and its recommended radio (from bootloader). Oh, and wipe data/cache obviously.

Yeah, I'm using Rom Manager to reboot to recovery.
So if I just flash the ROM and the recommended radio, my system will update itself to 2.3.4?
Would you happen to know how to REVERT back from 2.3.4 to 2.2.1 also?
Just in case things don't go well.

Just make a nandroid backup. Then if you don't like GB, you can restore your nandroid backup and flash the old radio back.

Oh wow, much simpler than Droid X.
For Droid X. I'd have to SBF back to Froyo from Gingerbread and only then am I able to reflash my Nandroid backup of a Froyo ROM.
Thanks for the advices!
Time to go ROM hunting

Why is it that only GB radios work on my ICS PHONE?

I have S-Off, the leaked May Hboot, an ICS ROM (Nils' Business ICS 3.4 S-off version), but the ICS radios simply do not work.
Today I tried them and had barely functioning cell reception, crap battery life, and only 1x data.
Then I flashed the OTA GB radios, and everything was perfect. Lightening fast 4g, killer cell reception, and great battery.
Why?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
The Beeb
Try this one. There are a couple floating around that may have problems but this one works for me
ICS Latest Radio
Just remove everything in the name before the PH and flash in bootloader (I know, you know this but others may not)
May also want to match the kernel
Thanx, Nils. I'll try it after work today.
BTW, I'm on your new kernel release, and it's running great.

Pretty sure you were so let me know how you make out.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. There are people who would kill for "Lightening fast 4g, killer cell reception, and great battery. "

What you say makes perfect sense, and I even agree with you.
There's just this tiny voice in the back of my head that keeps shouting "Yeah, but WHY?!?"
After updating radios, may need to have stock recovery installed and do a factory reset in hboot, then reflash recovery, rom, & kernel.

Are you asking or telling?
i flashed the latest radio while on my latest ROM with the latest leaked kernel with not problems.

Just mentioning is all. I had issues myself with data+voice until doing the above. Now I have spot on 4g and calls are crystal.
EDIT:
That was with the older leak, same radios.

+1 you probably NEED to do this.. I know I always do..
In superchilpil's firmware thread he does say to wipe and reinstall or you'll have 4g problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366
"YOU MUST FACTORY RESET IN THE BOOTLOADER TO FIX DATA ISSUES"
Actually it was Snuzzo who informed me that I need to do that after not reading all the words on the flashing instructions. You know figured I would just skip that part well thats fine if you want your data dropping in and out, no 4G and just general ****tyness..
I did a wipe/factory reset in bootloader, and then restored a CWM Backup of Nils' ROM.
When that didn't work, I did it again and wiped everything and started over with a fresh install... No joy.

You have to have the stock recovery in order to factory reset in the bootloader. If you have a custom recovery such as cwm or ra it won't do the reset needed for the radio to work correctly.
Flash stock recovery
Factory reset
Boot to make sure radios work right
Fastboot install custom recovery
Restore backup

ICS Roms won't boot after falshing JellyBean???

I flashed an AOKP Jellybean Rom, just wanting to test it out. After trying another JB Rom, I decided to go back to something more stable. With the release of the Stable CM9 ICS Rom, I figured this was the perfect time to go back.
I factory reset/wiped cache etc, and flashed it. The phone reboots into clockwork mod. Battery pull. Same thing. I then try an ICS Rom I was running for almost a month without issue and the same happend - won't boot.
I then flashed the JB Rom again and it worked like a charm.
Has anyone else experienced this?
does anyone know the solution to get back to an earlier version of android?
Just make nandroid backup if you're not sure you want to keep the rom you're about to flash Restore nandroid if you didn't like the new rom. I use exactly this to go back to stock rom if ever needed. My stock nandroid backup incl. EFS backup is stored safely on different locations just in case
Boot recovery (Hold power, volume up & home), go to "mounts and storage", erase cache, system, data. Go back, go to "advanced", erase dalvic cache. Then flash a new ROM.

I tried all of the listed suggestions above, and none worked.
But, I finally got it working. For anyone else that runs into this issue in the future:
Perform a restore(doesn't matter how old), do NOT wipe anything, just flash a new rom over it.
Boot. Reboot back into Recovery. Wipe everything and then Flash the desired rom.
Not sure what this fixed, but it did.
Thanks to all for the suggestions!

[Q] Help with flashing to a new rom

Quick question for you all.
I currently am s-off and running fresh's rom.
I would like to move to the Stock w/ Goodies 3.28.
Can I just do a factory reset on my phone and then flash the stock w/ goodies ROM? or is there more to it. I have used fresh since I got my OG EVO and never tried anything else, so I don't know how to switch roms.
I'm assuming that to update the radios and prl i can just use the Full Firmware zip located here: http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...dio-Collection&p=220556&viewfull=1#post220556
Do I need to update the hboot, recovery or boot img files?
TIA

You don't need to update hboot, recovery, and boot image. When you switch roms you should always wipe: cache, dalvic cache, factory reset, and system. Note that this does erase everything so back up your contacts, texts, and apps you wish to keep

Thanks for the quick response. I'm running titanium backup as we speak. I figured it was good to have a backup either way.

[Q] Revert to ICS

I'm currently rooted stock JB. I tried to revert back to ICS by:
- reboot to recovery
- flash ics stock kernel
- flash ics stock rom
However, after reboot, the phone was stuck at the animation boot screen.
1. Is it even possible to revert back to ICS?
2. If it is possible, what am I missing?
The reason I want to revert back is because of the proximity senser problem (phone gets blank durring call/voice mail) + google navigation crashes.
Not sure.
Did you wipe cache, dalvick, factory reset, and system?
Them since it sounds like you are s- on. Flash the kernel then rom. I haven't read anywhere that you can't go between JB and ICS.
Rather than the stock ROM i would try one of the custom ICS ones since they were all very far along in development.
Like viper 2.0, super LTE or ICS tranquility.

MikeyXDA's MeanBean rom has fixed all those problems AFAIK click the link in my SIG and have a look
I'm pretty sure SuperJelly has al those fixed as well
You will need to do a factory reset to go back, or restore a backup. I agree with trying MeanBean first to see if you like it. Although if navigation isn't working for you on stock, then it probably won't work on MeanBean either.
Sent from my icrap 2 using Tapatalk HD
I wiped everything. I also did a factory reset but it still didn't work. I then tried MeanBean and the proximity sensor issue is now gone ( haven't try navigation).
So I'm OK for now. Thank you for all the help.

Can you point me to where I can get that ROM and Kernel you're using?
