Hi,
I would like to change the voice of S-Voice. I prefer other TTS Engines out there. It seems to ignore the TTS Engine settings you set in the OS Menu.
Also, is there a way to switch between a male and female voice ?
Thanks.
dont bother changing it just delete s-voice , its the biggest pile of junk ever
I completely disagree with you ! I actually like S-Voice alot ! Its one of the reasons I bought the S3 in the first place !! Yes it might not get all the sarcasm of Siri, but it has its own advantages, I love how I can control so many functions of the phone just by voice (Especially the morning alarm ! The voice activated snooze or stop is AWESOME !) So anyway, I personally like it !
it cant even control opening radio / music and apps .. and updating fb n twitter using it is just rubbish and the constant network error and i cant understand anything lol . vlingo has never been good and probably never will be
anyway to change between male and female goto language and input then text to speech output .. samsung tts is a woman and google text to speech is a male
also click on the cog next to samsung tts to change tone of voice etc
Im not sure if you have used s-voice or not :S
It can play music very well, I asked it this morning to "play me some music by David guetta" and in no time It opened up my music player and played "Little bad girl" !!
I asked it to update my facebook status and it asked me right away what I wanted to say, and then updated it just fine !
So again........its doing everything I want it to do with no problems what so ever !
BTW I hate Vlingo too, its a crappy program, but S-Voice is VERY VERY different from vlingo, I actually went on my S2 and started comparing and vlingo couldnt do ANY of the things SVoice did, it simply didnt understand any sentence unless It was an exact command.
yes i have used s-voice many times and have a clear english accent . s-voice is only vlingo with a skin .... i am actually right now talking to my cousins s3 and asking it to update facebook with something and it comes up with something totally different .. and also when asking it to update twitter it trys top update facebook .. asked it to play bob marley , it played oasis, then everything else i just asked it said network error , exactly the same as my s-voice b4 i deleted it
Wierd......didnt face that many issues with mine !
Well, it did misunderstand me a few times........I told it to open facebook once and then it came back saying "I dont understand what you mean by Dicks" lol ? Not sure how it translated FB to dicks........but that was funny anyway
The network error message is the only thing that really bothers me about S-Voice.
OP, did you work out how to do this? I have the same problem, I want to use Ivona TTS as well...
Nope, I didnt.........S-Voice app would have to be modified to use the OS TTS engine and thats not gonna be easy. Well I definitely dont have the expertise to do that, so hopefully someone out there would be able to !

How can you configure s voice to snooze your alarm ? I haven't really used s voice that much but this seems like an interesting function Thanks in advance !
You go to Settings >> Language and Input >> Voice cmd for apps
Turn it on and tap on it again to access it, there you will see a list of apps/actions you can do , you choose which ever ones you want to activate.
Thats one of the features im still enjoying in my S3 But be carefull its soo easy to yell STOP and then go back to sleep !

Real shame. If and when I do decide to use it, I'd at least like it to have a pleasant voice...

I figured this out!
Go into your settings(phone settings) and pick whatever TTS engine you want.
Then, double tap the home button to enter s voice, and then hit the back button two or three times to completely exit S Voice.
Double tap the home button again and the voice ought to have applied.
EDIT: Also, if you want to use like an Ivona British voice, you also need to select the United Kingdom English in S Voice's settings. Or, you can simply have Ivona only install the voice data for whichever voice you want, and it should carry over to S Voice regardless of which version of English s voice is set to.
Or, if that doesn't work, something I once encountered, use the Application manager and Disable all but the TTS engine you want to use. Also force close them and clear their data. Then clear S Voice's data. Get into s voice again and disable, then re-enable the voice prompt. IF all else fails, that -should- do the trick.

you must have some crazy accent that yourself didn't notice.
After I downloaded the HD tts files, I tested it in S Voice and got the same old voice.
While in S Voice I hit the menu button and chose Settings. It brought up an S Voice settings menu.
From there I selected language. (which will be set to whatever your default language is. For me it was English (United States))
I then select another language. As soon as I selected it I was taken back to the S Voice Settings menu.
I selected language again and set it back to English (United States)
When I tested S Voice again that horrible robotic voice was gone
The voice requests and cards work just fine. But Google Now doesn't to "talk back" through the speakers like it does on my GNex phone.
"Speach Output" setting in Google Now is set to "Always Speak"... but nuthin'.
Help please.

Also had this problem.
Go to : Settings -> Language and input -> Change Language to English (United States). Seems to only work on that.

That worked, thanks.
is google now suppose to only respond to certain questions? I hear it sometimes, but i thought it would talk back like siri.
i love this feature, and think its a standout feature, since it can do more things in my country than siri does.
it still doesn't work :\

Mine didn't respond initially but i changed the language settings from the search to English (UK) and it started talking back to me
I'd like there to ne an XDA mode, where if you ask it a stupid question it flames you weveral times with different voices 8)
it works with english (US) Thanks
For those who tried everything and still nothing - try this
Guys, there is my solution:
- Set your locale to whatever you want
- Set the Google Now Voice Language to English US
- Voice Output to Always
- Remove the tick(untick the box) on Hide Offensive Words
I spent hours of tinkering with this and tried all kinds of options, but in the end that solved it for me. This is because recently there was an update to Google Search, which is the application designation for Google Now and it introduced this bug.
I have my locale to my native one English UK en-GB and everything works like a charm as it should be and as it used to work before the update.

+1 to this. Turns out that my SYSTEM volume was muted for some reason. You could also go into Settings>Sound>Volume>System (adjust as needed)

Hi,
Hope there's someone out here that can help me out.
I'm trying to use ICS voice recognition on my SGII. It has nice recognition, but I can't seem to enter any punctuation at all. It works ok with English, but in Spanish, whenever I say "punto", "coma", "signo de interrogaciĆ³n", etc. it just writes that down instead of the actual punctuation.
Does anyone know why is that or if there's a solution? I can't believe Google released Spanish voice typing without addressing this issue. I've checked the Android OS support page (for Nexus devices) and it just says I need to say those words, but it doesn't work.
Very frustrating. :crying:

Well ... You're not alone in there
I would like to post the links about the several issues reported on Android support ... but I'm not able to post links yet
Anyway if you go Android Project on Google , in Issues and search for "Punctuation" , you'll find the same issue for German / Italian / French.
Pretty much , punctuation is not working anywhere but English ...
Spanglish doesn't work?
Well, I have a Galaxy S III but I'm sure that this is the same problem...:/
I've tried to download the italian offline dictation package but, as spanish, It doesn't work for "question mark" or other punctuation command.
Now my question is: Is there any way to modify the multi-language dictation packages and add the punctuation dictation feature? Where is the right folder where are downloaded these package? I found the "/system/usr/srec" folder but I don't think it's the right one...There is only the "en-US" folder inside..
If someone with more experience in Modding or developing could help me would be fantastic...and I'm sure that a lot of people (all over the world.. ) would be very happy..
I'm sorry to bring up this old thread but this is still an issue for me, did you guys ever fixed this?

No, there is no fix and google is ignoring all the reported issues on code.google.com. Not a single answer from them since this was first reported on November 2012 (and this despite the fact the thousands of users have starred the different issues and commented on them).
Same issue is also affecting German / French and possibly other non-English languages.
I think we can safely assume they don't care and this will not get fixed anytime soon.

I noticed that my Nexus 4 with Android 5.1.1 is able to recognise a few punctuation commands in Italian. I will explore this further but 'punto' and 'nuovo paragrafo' do what the are expected to do.

Not in spanish. It still writes the word instead.
I like it when i found out cool things about my phone!
So I was going to scan one of those digital bar codes and pressed the bing search button and realized there was an option to scan text. Hmmm.... i said to myself, and gave it a try. This phone(come to find out its all windows phones) can act as an optical character recognition. You can scan an image and copy the text and paste it into a word document. And then, while i was messing around with it, i come to find out that if you just leave it with a view of the cover of book, it will recognize it and pull up searches for the book!
Maybe you know this, maybe you don't (haven't used a windows phone since the HTC Tilt) I don't know if I will ever use this feature, but it is still cool to know that this phone can do a lot of cool things I may never use.
In case you don't know, it also does the translation in-place too. So, if you are in a foreign country and want to find out what that sign or menu means, just use Bing search and point your camera to it. You do have to choose the languages. This feature used to be a separate app for WP7 but now integrated into Bing search itself.
Great stuff right? These are known features and part of Bing Vision (if I am not mistaken thats the official name) and available for a while now.
Similarly try Bing Translator App, it can translate text using your Camera in real time, also a very impressive feature.

it all in the search app by pressing the search hard button. It can translate anything to anything by autodetecting the language viewed by the lense.

Like I said above, WP8 no longer has this app because it is part of Bing search. But it also lost offline translate that the app had.

It should recognize foreign text automatically. It recognized Vietnamese...but it did a really poor job translating it. Half the stuff didn't translate and the other half didn't come close to what it actually meant.
English to other languages has been pretty accurate so far though.
Have they included support for non-latin based languages? there is a Japanese grocery store by me, and they have an entire area of sauces with no english words on the bottle. so essentially, there is no way to find out what is in each of these bottles. I tired using my phone (albeit it was a samsung focus using mango at the time), and it could not recognize Japanese. did it to Vietnamese hot sauce. It didn't recognize that, either

You need to select your translation language manually. I've tested with a few Chinese menus and it works fine.
Nice stuff!
we had a cab on windows mobile that could scan business cards and put the information straight into the contacts app.worked pretty good too. is this supported as well?
Hey, I'm messing around with the settings here.
As you might know, Google released an update for Google Now. It now allows the use of "OK Google anywhere" and is always listening while charging, pretty much like Moto X! Yay
But it seems that not everybody is getting it, mostly folks outside U.S., and the Moto X is having a hard time to make it run.
As I always mod the Google Now to work on my mother language, I did a brief comparison between both new and old "StartupSettings.bin" and found a couple of new guys, but two caught my eye:
Code:
hotword_blacklisted_devices>XT1049,XT1050,XT1052,XT1053,XT1055,XT1056,XT1058,XT1060,XT912A
Those are all Moto X versions
and:
Code:
!relationships_peopleapi_http_path4https://www.googleapis.com/plus/v2whitelisted/people
which might be the "VIP" list to see if the user is eligible for the new feature.
Some guy from AndroidPolice assured that he could get the feature for a single-use only, if he logged out of Google Now, logged in and tried the feature out. After the first use, the feature would be removed, and all he'd get is the typical "OK Google" from the home screen.
What do you guys think? I'll try to set the whitelist to localhost here to see what happens.

Holy crap dude, it worked.
I modded Google Now to work with my Mother Language, pt-BR. I'll have a look to see if I make it able to work on pt-BR too. Every text and instructions are correct in this language, so it must only be a simple think.
Thank you!
------------------
Damn. It presents me the option to record my voice three times for later recognition, but it crashes just at the end.
So close..
------------------
So stupid! There's no need for this anymore. It has "two languages" now. I set the primary as English and the secondary as Portuguese (Brasil).
Works flawless! This is awesome. Thanks
