radio upgrade - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Is it possible with hboot 1.19 s-on running MeanBean? If so what method? I tried dirty racun and it failed on the on the step fastboot oem rebootRUU and black screen with HTC. Then wouldn't flash RUU. t/u

Ruu when in bootloader. Then unlock and then run racun.

Last weekend I relocked my phone then ran the RUU and took the OTA then unlocked and rooted again. I couldn't get Racun to work for me either.

I will most likely try the unroot method since I have tried the racun and was stuck with a phone not working for a while.

The RUU to use depends on your hboot, for example, if youre on hboot 1.15 use RUU 1.22.651.3 - HBOOT 1.15
for hboot 1.19 use RUU 2.13.651.1 - HBOOT 1.19
The best guide to follow is the unlimited guide from their site, they will acutally support your efforts live! I used this method and I was able to gain s-off, unlock my bootloader and root; here's the link (it contains eveything you need including the RUU):

That is the one I was using and failed on step 8 second command went to black screen with HTC in center and nothing after that. Then failed to load the RUU. I am on HBOOT 1.19. I will look at it again tonight and might give it a try again.

[Q] Reverting back to s-off

Just to be sure. When updating an s-off phone to hboot 1.50 s-on, as sprint service techs like to be sure everything is updated, you can then use htc unlock method to revert back to s-off?
No. Can't revert to older hboot...

Well this afternoon i was updated at the sprint store to hboot 1.50 with s-on. confirmed as soon as i left the store. came home to root via htc unlock and when i finished i had hboot 1.50 s-off. loaded prior ruu to get back to hboot 1.30.
Wait so you started with hboot 1.50 s-on and was able downgrade to hboot 1.30 s-off?
I thought this wasn't possible with HTC's unlock method?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I think i read that you can only do it if you had s-off prior (or something to that effect)

Actually he never asked if you could downgrade to 1.whatever. He asked if he could use HTCs method.
Yes my phone was rooted with soff prior to upgradeing to hboot 1.50. S-on after going to hboot 1.50. Once I used HTC unlock method my phone was back to s-off and was able to downgrade hboot. Not that it was needed since it was s-off anyways. My intention of the op was to check and verify that this was the status quo of everyone who updated after rooting via revolutionary.

[Q] Evo 3D CDMA - HBOOT 1.50 S-OFF back to S-ON

I have an Evo 3d with HBOOT 1.5 and S-OFF. I want to get to 1.4 S-OFF but I can't find how I can set S-OFF back to S-ON, so I can proceed with the downgrade instructions located here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547695
Search and google are not helping too much as there is too much noise talking about getting to s-off and not trying to get to s-on.
Can you please point me toward a solution to change from HBOOT 1.5 S-OFF to HBOOT 1.5 S-ON?
Thank you.

You can brick your device!
Forgive my ignorance, but if you are s-off, why would you want to do this? I thought 1.5 s-off was just as good as1.4 s-off.
Sent from my PG86100
When set at 1.5 you cant change the splash screen or radio. or other settings.
Also Bricking it is what I need to do to convert it to 1.4 BUT I cant to that until I have S-ON. Correct?
You are s-off so no need to brick, just download this copy it to sd card and flash via bootloader.
Also I could be mistaken, but I believe hboot 1.5 is perfectly ok as long as you are S-off, I am pretty sure you can flash whatever you want.
BTW the download link is taken from OP in this thread, you might want to read through it.

^Exactly this. If you read the first post of that thread (especially the gigantic red letters and what is under that), it will tell you to NOT brick an S-off phone as it will permanently brick it. You just need to flash the 1.4 bootloader.

i had the same problem as OP. i think the issue with 1.5 is even though its s-off, the bootloader is still locked and therefore a recovery cant be flashed and root cant be gained.
Ive been looking for the standalone hboot 1.4 ruu so i didnt have to do what op originally suggested
You have all of my thanks

Ya I didn't even think about revolutionary only working with 1.4 or below that must be the problem. You are welcome for the help, I just figured most of this out about a week ago when I had to do the downgrade after unlocking with htc method.
I would fastboot oem lock then do HTC's unlock again.

You have to HTC Unlock the device first, then do the fastboot oem lock (if you don't it will say "Device was already locked!" message)

If you are S-OFF you can flash any bootloader you want...no need to go back to S-on....I found a few bootloader versions on here and flashed them back and forth when trying different roms.....once your S-OFF you should never return...lol
I was thinking of taking it to Sprint for a replacement cuz of 4G not working, but then I thought, WHEN ON EARTH do I use 4G??? LOL It's always off...

[Q] Get bootloader unlocked and I already have S-OFF

Hey! A while ago I rooted my phone using the revolutionary method. Later I reverted back to stock and locked the bootloader. However the S-OFF remained. A few minutes ago I had 1.53 HBOOT and ICS stock. But now I got HBOOT 1.49.0007 and I wanna use revolutionary tool to unlock bootloader yet again. But now it gives me an error saying, "Failed to get root! "
Is there another way to get rooted WITHOUT using the HTC method since I already got S-OFF and 1.49.0007 HBOOT? I don't feel comfortable using HTC's method....

I think the "Failed to get root!" message is because HTC patched the tacoroot exploit in the ICS builds that was being used for temp root with the GB builds.
Why do you want to unlock the bootloader? If you want to run the additional fastboot commands you should be able to just flash the JBear version of the current bootloader, or does that cause problems on the GSM model?
ramjet73
Since you are S-OFF you can flash whatever bootloader you want. I don't know revolutionary method, I was using jbear to get S-OFF. After S-OFF i flashed RUU and I was on stock 1.53.007 locked bootloader with S-OFF and i couldn't root my phone. I've flashed hboot from this site:
http://unlimited.io/jbhboots.htm
There you have 2 versions of GSM Evo 3d hboots. After that you can do everything with your phone. Good luck!

I contacted unlimited.io's support in the IRC and downloaded the ICS HBOOT - 1.53.5353 and flashed that. Now it seemes to work!
Anyway, thanks for your answer! If they wouldn't have responded then you would have been my savior!
Okay, problem number two.... I have flashed CWM now and I installed Super User inside recovery mode but I don't get root access? I downloaded the signed package from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991929
Any ideas?
I have tried to repair premissions after the install of Super User. I have also updates Super User from Market after Install due to force close after the fresh install from CWM

Follow method B (steps 1 to 14 if you want to be on rooted stock) and it should be ok. If I remember correctly, there is a 4ext recovery to download, maybe try this one. Good luck!

[Q] Can't update with RUU 2.13 after relocking bootloader

I am trying to flash my phone with the RUU 2.13 so I can get the new firmware and flash meanbean. I am following this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31520093&postcount=11730) to do so. After following what Captain says, which is to relock the bootloader I can't get past the bootloader (which I now understand is normal right?) and then try to run the RUU through HBOOT, however I get the USB error. Is this due to the bootloader being relocked or am I missing the htc drivers on my computer?
Also, I'd rather go to S-Off, so if anyone could shed some light on how I would go from S-On to S-Off I would greatly appreciate it.
Which firmware are you trying to get on your phone? Because the way I'm reading it is you're using the older ruu file to try to get the newest firmware. Just wanna make sure you're using the newest ruu of 3.15 (came out December 22).

Ya wow can't believe how long it's been since I've flashed a rom. An old version of MeanRom has lasted me so long. I am on an old firmware (1.13) I believe. I want to preferably go from S-On to S-Off. Before, I tried Captain Throwbacks method (relocking the bootloader, flashing the RUU) however I ran into a USB Connection Problem with the RUU. So I am trying to figure out if it was because I didn't have the right htc drivers installed or something else. If S-On to S-Off would eliminate the need for those steps I would much rather do that. I am trying to get to the latest firmware. Thanks!
What Hboot are you on?
Edit: If you're on 1.12 you're going to have to go the Dirty Racun route, since Lazy Panda is no longer officially supported. This, of course, requires you to RUU to upgrade to either Hboot 1.15 or 1.19, then run Dirty Racun to get S-off. Getting S-off is definitely the way to go, as it can save you some headache down the road. Also, don't run the RUU for 3.15 (JB) as this will update your Hboot and currently there is no exploit to get S-off with the new Hboot. You can still unlock and root it, but you'll be S-on.

[Q] Where to start with S-Off

i have a pretty much stock but rooted release evo.
android version 4.0.3
hboot 1.12.651.1
should i do OTA update then use dirtyracun or is there another way to go s-off then flash roms without using htc unlock?
U have to use HTC unlock to s-off

If you go to the Dirty Raccoon site, the steps are laid out. I found it to be very easy and was S-off in about a half hour.

#Root-Hack_Mod*Always=LTE
the issue im concerned with is this part
"This version of DirtyRacun supports the following device:
HTC Evo 4G LTE (Jewel) - HBOOT 1.12 / 1.15 / 1.19 / 2.09"
should i update my phone first?
It seems to matter which HBOOT you have. It looks like DR supports all of them but just in case check your HBOOT.
Do this by turning off the phone. Then turn it back on while holding the volume down button. It should show in the white screen. Use volume controls to move cursor and power button to enter. Reboot is under "fastboot".
I know I have 1.13 hboot which is not listed on dirtyracun so I wasn't sure if I need to update to move forward

Yes you should be on one of the hboot's that the guide recommended.

so doing some reading it would appear that if i had done this prior to dirtyracun i could have used lazypanda and not used htcdev unlock but since they removed that i now need to update OTA to current hboot then do htcdev unlock then dirtyracun?

If you want to root or flash roms you will need to use htc-dev to unlock your bootloader and you need to be unlocked to flash a custom recovery(TWRP)
