Need help with battery problem on XXLSJ - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I've previously send my S2 in for repair and after getting it back, there seems to be a problem with the battery. A few times when my phone is left overnight, the battery will get drained to 0% all the way from ~50%. When checking the battery usage graph, it shows a vertical drop all the way from ~50%, so I believe its not caused by rogue app. Is this a problem with the battery calibration?

Terrible battery life with the OTA update

I have the stock 4.5.9 gingerbread update on my AT&T ATRIX. However I am observing a terrible battery life. There are too many solutions in the forum to follow. Can someone direct me to the appropriate one? I am rooted and unlocked. I used the unlocked 4.5.9 sbf for upgrading from from Froyo to gingerbread 2.3.4

there;s a lot of solutions because poor battery life can be cause by many things, you have to find out what is draining your battery. try calibrating first let it drain until your phone turns off and then if you have cwm install then wipe batterystats and then a full uninterrupted charge
Try setting profiles in SetCPU and freezing apps with TitaniumBackup. Theres a topic for each of these two solutions.
battery stats 6h 3m 29s on battery (now left with 10% of battery)
Display 49%
Phone Idle 22%
Cell standby 6%
Android system 5%
Launcherpro 3%
xda 3%
Android OS 3%
this is just terrible .. i never had such battery life with Froyo. i dont understand what might be the problem. Meanwhile i will try to calibrate my battery.

Calibrate your battery.
Then freeze your bloat.
Problem solved.
dont forget you might also being playing with your phone a lot more trying to see all the new stuff in the update. Thus causing more battery drain.

There are some strange things happening with the battery. I let my battery discharge completely to the point where phone shuts down. Then I plugged in to charger, waited for 2-3 minutes so that I can start the phone. Started the phone and saw 50% battery. Don't know what's going on.
I was told by an admin from another site that most of the battery programs do not work with ova ginbread. You go to settings/about/status and observe the battery. I do no I was also getting flaky results with 2 of the battery programs.

That's a GB bug... there's a battery fix in the development section to flash which deals with the reboot battery jumping. (turn off phone at 50%, turn on phone and it says 70%)
I am having problems with my Atrix too. With my usage, I used to be able to get almost 3 days of battery life. Now it hardly lasts a day. I have checked pretty much all settings (sync, sleep) and all seems fine as far as I'm concerned. So I am having hard time trying to find what is causing this. The only suspect I have right now is wifi. I don't think wifi is sleeping even though I've selected "When screen turns off" in the sleep policy.

Battery Drain <== Core Apps

Hmm...well, this is the second time that this has happened in the 2.5 weeks that I've owned this phone. I'm currently running unNamed ROM 1.2.0 and noticed that my battery is draining quicker than usual (8%-10% drain per hour on IDLE).
Usually, my battery drain is between 1% - 2% per hour on unNamed. What I've noticed in both the instances where my battery drains rapidly is that I end up seeing 'Core Apps' (white envelope with android icon in the middle) under the Battery Usage. From what I can recall about this icon, it's the icon for the launcher. CPUSpy shows my phone at 78% deep sleep (the phone's usually around 93% - 95% deep sleep when in idle).
The first time this happened, I was away from home on business for 1 night and ended up having to power my phone off when it got down to 11%. Got home later that day and recharged my battery while the phone was off and after the phone was 100% charged, it lasted 38 hours with 7% left before I powered off and recharged. Again, the battery with light usage lasted 30 hours with 30% left.
Today, after charging (while off - seems to charge better this way) I was surprised to see that my battery was draining at ~10% per hour and I saw that 'Core Apps' was listed under Battery Usage again.
Fortunately, I am not away on business this time (yeah, my spare charger is on the way) so I can recharge teh phone at home. Is the only way to "reset" the phone's battery usage history by pulling the battery or charging the phone?
Hopefully, one of the devs can answer or provide a fix/workaround for the 'Core Apps' drain? (BTW, I leave my WiFi on all the time and my phone still lasts anywhere between 28 hours to 40 hours...just wondering why I have these sporadic glitches when the battery doesn't seem to last long.)
From my experience... this will be very hard to fix. Usually appear ramdomly, and disappear randomly.

Yeah...the 1st time it happened, I was wondering "WTF is 'Core Apps'?"
Now that I've seen this the 2nd time, I'm stumped by it since you're right...it doesn't happen often and doesn't seem to be reproducible by any consistent method.
Hard to do a battery pull with this Neo Hybrid case (case is a PITA to remove) and I don't have my 2ndary charger yet...
Rebooting the phone does nothing since the battery history remains and even powering off for an hour and then powering the phone back on still doesn't clear out the battery history so the drain continues!
Oh well...it is what it is then I guess...I was hoping that someone smarter than I could find a way to cure this. (BetterBatteryStats doesn't show this as a wakelock (partial or full)...CPUSpy just that my deep sleep state is in the mid to upper 70% which isn't the norm.
Oh well, hopefully, this doesn't happen too often.

But a few have reported their phone doesn't behave right in reporting battery percentages after wiping battery stats.
Doesn't mean you can't. But no one has proven it helps.

I haven't had any issues that can't be directly linked to something else (like random reboots).
If all you want to do is reset your battery useage screen to zero it definitely does that. The point isn't to help anything, just to reset the screen to zero without having to wait for the phone to charge all the way.
In that case not a bad idea if you see it show up. If it's as bad of a battery drainer as it seems and still running, it should show up again pretty quick after you clear battery stats.
It'd be useful in reading the logs to know that at a certain time it was for sure running.

Dunno, it's just odd...recharged my phone last night and now I'm back to 1%-2% battery drain on idle and the phone's going back into deep sleep at 93% and I haven't touched any of my settings. I just let the phone dip to 19% and powered off and put it on the charger for ~4 hours (I know, I could've pulled it sooner since it wasn't at 0% but honestly, I forgot.)
It's just the weirdest thing...whenever Core Apps appears as the envelope w/Android icon it seems to be persistent and stays in the battery usage. However, there have been times when the Core Apps appears as teh same icon as 'Contacts' and will disappear on it's own after a while. <-- This seems to be okay as the battery drain remains minimal.
I'll have to check out Entropy's battery drain thread later to see if I can gain any insights. (Haven't ever flashed any of Entropy's kernels as standalones -- I've just been flashing unNamed ROM so I know the kernels are stable builds and not the experimentals.)

battery information problem

hi guys , i got some problem with the information displayed for my razr maxx. the thing is the battery usage curve won't change for the first 10% of power drain, and the awake bar and screen on bar are full. but when the battery drops to 80% and below, the curve starts to count from the 80% position, what is going on? how can i fix it ?
here is the screenshot
How many times have you already charged that battery from 0% to 100% and drained it back again to 0%?
Seems like a simple calibration issue that should have no effect in real world battery performance.
Had that too. If you want to know more about this, look up "batterystats.bin".
So, if you haven't done what I said in the first line, do it and report back.
i have tried delete the .bin file bwfore, nothing changed. i think i will try to charge it from 0to 100again see if there will be any change. btw will the battery calibration apps solve this?
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
Read that. You don't have to do anything, just let your razr get some charge cycles and the readouts will be right. Remember: There is no need to tinker with this, as this has no effect except for cosmetic terms.
thanks for the information. one more thing, the battery indicator always shows that the screen on and awake time are the same, even after i turn off the screen and play music for an hour. is this normal? or the system keeps recognizing the status of the screen as on? how should i deal with this?
I would just wait a few days (read: charge cycles) and look again. Indeed strange, but if your battery doesn't get drained this also seems just to be another cosmetic issue.
actually it seems it has been more energy draining than before. it wouldn't drop 1% when i turned on flight mode at night and checked it in the morning. but now even i turn on flight mode it drops about 5% next morning.

Don't count on the battery percentage today. Look again tomorrow/after some charge cycles.
The battery readouts need to be calibrated to display the correct battery level.
I had the same "issues" (in fact, those don't seem to be real issues) and they went away. I assume your razr will behave the same as mine
Is the phone still new? I know mine was a little wonky until the charging and the meter apparently calibrated themselves to Maxx's battery Ever since, it's been very accurate.
yes it is still new. i got it about half a month ago. just got it charged to 100% from 0%. gonna see what will happen。

Battery drain problem

Hi, today i experienced something strange with my s3. I was outside, battery was 16%, i heard the alert for 15%, i took phone to check and was 15% left. After 20 mins, my phone vibrated in pocket like does when you switch off. I checked and was switched off, when i came back i put on charger and turn on and under battery stats is really something drained it, but i'm not sure exactly what or whats the problem. How can i check exactly what app drained the battery like this? I attach a screenshot.
And another thing.... after phone turns off and you turn on, doesn't the battery stats reset ?
As per previous posts use Better Battery Stats .
after phone turns off and you turn on, doesn't the battery stats reset
No it does not .

yeah thats kinda weird samsung 4.1.2 update may have some kind of glitch that causes battery draining btw do you have 4G LTE version?

No, is the i9300 version. I have 2 of them, never had any problem with any of them..
Just today happened this strange drain, now i charged it completely and i uninstalled some apps that i think might drained my battery like this. So far everything is back to normal.
use better battery stats... instead of uninstalling every app you should look for what is causing the drain in bbs and unistall it

[Q] Something wrong with my device/battery

This is not happening for the first time...
Ever since I rooted my device and flashed Android Revolutionary Rom on it, I noticed some weird behavior with my device/battery.
Last night I drained my battery to 6% and I turned it off. This morning I charged my phone with the phone stayed off and when the battery indicator screen lighted up it was showing that 50% juice remains. Since this is not happening for the first time, this time I would like to test on it to see whether there's really this much juice remains. So I turned my phone on and as expected, the battery indicator shows 50++% left. So I play around with it and I noticed the screen flashing terribly after some time. Not long after that the phone hang there and I had to do a hard reset by pulling out the battery. Before that, I can see that the battery is drained to around 20%. I was unable to power it on after pulling out the battery and when I connected my device to the charger, nothing happens (no display, no LED). So I left it there charging and after some time, finally the LED is lighting up (So, I assume that I drained the battery COMPLETELY just now). I can switch on the device afterwards and it shows 6% battery remains. I wonder why is this happening as this only happens when I charge my device with it turning off. Something wrong with the battery? Device? Or I have to do battery calibration?

Let it charge to 100% first before using. Then check how is the battery usage.
There might be an issue with the battery also. If it is swollen then it's time to get a new one.
Try using another battery and see. If it works fine on other battery then your battery needs to change,
The problem could also be in the ROM. Something could have gone wrong during installation even though it may look fine. If this is the case then reflash the ROM with a full wipe. If the problem still remains, return to stock rom and see.
I had the exact same problems, the screen flashes and stutters, network signal is lost and the phone turns off, it is due to uncalibrated battery.
There's a simple fix, download battery calibration from play stor (green android icon with percentage), charge your phone to 100% without using it, then click battery calibr. inside that app, then doscharge it till 0% (do your normal usage as ussual) and then charge it back to 100%
For healthy battery life don't let it drain lower than 10% it's the li-ion physics and always charge it fully, don't charge from 0 to 30-50-60% because the ions in the battery will not have a good flow.
Everything has it's lifespan but if it's configured and used properly it can have a long lifespan
Also to mention, if my recommendation doesn't work, your battery could be swolen due to inproper charging / heavy oc-ing or your charger is messed up.
Also to say, that flickering occured to me when i flashed a new rom and when i do lot of reboots, then the batterystats freak out, the voltages also and also your phone.
Charhe and use it properly, try to stay with a rom at least a couple of days to see how it'll go.

The battery usage is normal, and its not swollen. I guess I will try to calibrate the battery or reflash the ROM again.
