Hello
I tried searching the forum but couldn't find a similar thread..sorry if i overlooked.
I am confused if i should flash CM ROM's or not....i know they are good on performance and good for gaming....but the problem with my LwW is that the camera quality with a CM ROM is not good...also i read somewhere that the front camera isn't working.
Currently i am using REALICS...this ROM is very good but sometimes tha games lag
I used CM with my earlier phone(X8) and liked it immensely...but i am really confused about it in my current phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The thing about which i am confused is that should i flash CM or should i stay with my current ROM (REALICS)...i've seen that the camera quality is not good on the CM roms...moreover the front camera wont work on my LwW
but i really like the performance that the CM roms give
Hmmmm.....
CM7 ------ Gingerbread Base With A Few ICS stuff implement....
CM9 ------ ICS Base With A Few JB stuff implement....
CM10 ---- JB v4.1.2 Base....
CM10.1 - JB v4.2 Base....
So as for stability, CM7 and CM9 are the best....CM7, CM9 and CM10 got fully working front camera....

What ROM have you installed? Custom Stock ROM?
Maybe you can install the Cybershot Camera Mod by Rizal Lovins. In my opinion its the best Camera Mod.
i am new to all this android development but i was thinking,we have problems with camera on any ics so what would happen if we put gingerbreads camera apk on ics rom would it brick or it just wont work?

It may work but camera problems on ics are due to bad libraries in ics, independent of the apk
Sent from my ST25i using xda app-developers app
camera ics
and those libraries is imposible to correct i suppose?its shame the camera is only thing that force me to stay on GB,because there is not a single ICs rom with camera working like in GB.I dont know how is situation on that Jelly bean rom.
------- Please have a backup kernel in case this does not boot. I am not responsible for bricks. This kernel is provided to help development of Galaxy player 5.0 and give others the added features in thier 4.2 roms. This kernel is for Slim Bean 4.2 ONLY. Do not use this with CM10.1 or PAC 4.2, it will freeze on boot screen.
-------- Slim Bean 4.2--- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2298872
-------- Slim Gapps 4.2 ----- http://slimroms.net/index.php/downl...load/916-addons/5416-slim-gapps-4-2-2-build-8
-------- Google apps (Gapps) 4.2 -------- https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kifcelekch235kz/D3ZdB7_YHV/GApps Core 4.2.2.zip
--- It is Recommended you install Slim apps for added system apps, you should also install Gapps for google play store and google apps----
1. install Slim Bean
2. install Slim Gapps
3. install Gapps
4. install kernel
5. reboot.
------ FEATURES----
Working FM Radio
Working front and Rear camera ( Fast burst app needed) -------- Flash for pictures not currently supported (WIP)
Working Back and Front Camera Recording with stock app ( flash camera fix zip below) ( Must use seperate video player for playback)
Working Flashlight LED tool.
-------------- UPDATED Sultan r6b2 kernel for 4.2----RECOMMENDED--------------

-------- APPS -------
Tiny Flashlight ------ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devuni.flashlight
Fastburst ------ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spritefish.fastburstcameralite
SprintFM ------- http://apkgalaxy.com/tag/spirit-fm-radio-unlocked-apk ---- V sept. 24 confirmed working
-------- You must select GalaxySL/i9003 for radio to work. to find this enter settings, go to audio then method to change it.
Camera recording Fix ---------- http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1988153&d=1369421491
( Once you install the camera fix through CWM, you will have two camera apps. It is recommended you disable the old version. You can do this by going into app settings and disable the galley app that has a smaller file size then the other galley app. ) ( You can not play videos through galley app, you have to play them with a seprate player or you will get an error)
-------BUGS--------
----- SprintFM UI can freeze, you still can change stations, and you still can enter the stations frequency to tune in. The status just freezes but all the buttons still work.
----- SprintFM If you use pause and play button it may create more static then there should be. Recommend using on/off button instead.
----- Gallery will not play videos you record, must use seprate video player.
----- Stock camera app still will not take rear cam pictures, no flash for pictures either. ( this is common with ICS 4.2 and JB 4.3 roms ) Fix is a WIP.
--------- OLD VERSION Sultan Kernel R5V2 ---4.2------
Kernel ------- http://www.freeuploadsite.com/do.php?id=22379
---- Fixed issue with FM Radio having alot of static, new kernel provides clearer reception. Sultan r6b2 kernel above has better radio reception.
-----------COMING SOON---------
---- CM10.1 based kernel
----PAC 4.2 based kernel
------- NEEDS FIXING-----
---- Stock Camera app does not take rear pictures, no flash for pictures either, if this gets fixed then JB 4.2 will be complete. Everything else works great.
Special Thanks to android1234567 for all the hard work helping me compile this.

This kernel was made to incoporate the Fm driver into 4.2 roms. What we did was recompile Jackpot 3.0 master Kernel with Slim Bean sources. This was tested on Slim Bean 4.2 and confirmed to work.

The only difference between this one and Sultan r5 is the incorporated radio driver.
Sultan r6 kernels are for 4.3 roms only ----- they have the radio driver but no camera, LED flashlight features.
Sultan r5 kernels are for 4.2 roms ------ they have partial working camara, LED flashlight features, but no radio driver.
What I wanted to do was add the radio driver so theres one more added feature to r5.
Lorddemonrage Try Tiny flashlight app, I found it works very good.

The camera does not work on 4.3 using sultans kernel r6. But radio does. That is why I wanted to make a kernel for 4.2 with the radio drivers. So now theres radio and camera on 4.2. If you used Sultans kernel r6 on 4.3 based rom the camera instantly closes when you open it, I had tested PAC and CM10.2 roms which are 4.3 and the camera never worked. This is a fine solution for anyone who dosen't mind running 4.2 untill the bugs in 4.3 are fixed. This way you can still run Sultans Kernel, have FM and camera working plus the flashlight tool. However, the camera only works with fast burst app, and there is no flash for pictures. Your welcome to test other camera apps with 4.2 to see if flash will work with them, I just haven't found one yet.

That's good to hear it worked lol, I have tried other flashlight apps in the past and most don't work. I like Tiny flashlight the best. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

that really sultan r6 working on 4.2.2?? if so that is awesome..... some of the updates in sultan r6 i wanted to get in 4.2.2, can't go into 4.3 atm cause of all the bugs and the fact that viper4android isn't installing drivers under 4.3, but works great on 4.2.
little step closer to curing my upgrade-itis
Camera works for some people with fast burst camera on 4.3. I wonder why not for all...

The bootimage and kernel modules were replaced in R6 so it would work on 4.2. I assume you would have all the features of R6 on 4.2
This kernel was compiled using Slimbean 4.2 sources. I need some feedback if this works on other 4.2 roms so let me know what rom your using and how it performs.
@joemhewitt, I did test the camera on CM10.2 with CM10.2 kernel and did get the camera working. But the flashlight feature did not work, and the radio did not work either. So I tried both Sultan r6b2 and r6 for 4.3 which gave me radio but no camera or flashlight. Thats what I found when I tested it.
OK, there really isn't much difference between 4.2 and 4.3 anyway. I may flash this depends if fast burst camera is any good.
EDIT : Can you make an international version? Thanks.

This kernel was compiled for the USA version. I can build it for International version. But I've had problems with Kubuntu so I had to move to Linux Mint. So now I have to re-downloaded and prepare everything again. I would say give it about a week and I will upload Inter. version
Fastburst camera will take a fair picture, quality could be better. No one has fixed the stock camera app for ICS or JB yet. The front camera will work but the rear will not save pictures and freeze with stock app. And you can not record video from the rear camera either. I'm trying to get some help on fixing this, its a work in progress.

I can give this a shot, is dirty flashing ok or would a full wipe and install of pac/chaos/cm/Remics JB Fire Eel better?

If you want to keep all your apps and data I'd just flash the kernel. But if you wanted to put a new rom on it then I'd go for a full wipe. If you do a full wipe its good to wipe the delvik cache too, its under advanced in CWM.

K, will give it a go, got CM 7/23/2013 and pac 06/10/2013 will let you know in a few hours how it goes.
I like the CWMR touch btw, but touch screen does not work. still looks nice though
edit: i accidentally swiped my finger while in recovery mode and can get the indicator to scroll, but not select things. still neat though
Update:
With all attempts i did a factory reset, wiped system and dalvic
With Pac-Rom 06/10/2013 build (which i think is the latest for 4.2.2)
installed gapps and modified r6 working on 4.2.2, would sit on boot screen, tried another wipe and restore, same thing. tried to wipe and restore with regular sultan 5 kernel would boot to homescreen. tried to install r6 after successfull boot, would hang at boot screen again.
For CM 10.1 same as the above.
tried it again with slim, had no problems installing.

Sounds like this Kernel may only work on slimbean 4.2 . For PAC and CM it looks like I'll have to build another kernel with PAC and CM sources. I'll do more building and testing soon.
I'm sorry for the delay and will continue to work on this project but I have many other things I'm working on, Modding pc games, developing Linux Mint, programming and the list goes on but I'll compile another kernel for CM and PAC soon
