Hi,
I have a xperia mini pro (sk17i) and i was trying to root it. It had Android 4.0.4(4.1.B.0.587) on it.
I was following this guide: (http : // talk.sonymobile . com/thread/41119 ) -> remove spaces
since the xperia mini pro wasn't amongs the devices, i used the one they recommanded: the one for MT11i (xperia Neo)
i ran flashtool, and after completion, it said it was succesfully done,
but it kept rebooting.
So i tried to continue, but then they refer to a site from this website, and there it said me to flash to an other kernel.
I tried to do this, but when i want to flash, i need to hold down the volume down key when connecting through USB. The only problem is, this ain't working anymore. (I think it has something to do with the wrong kernel, cause the xperia Neo has the back-button to be pressed when connecting to flashtool).
I tried the sony ericsson pc companion, to restore my phone, but this asks me to hold down the volume key too. Whenever i do this, it doesn't rly do anything.
My phone just keeps restarting (the little led light in the top left corner is red when it is on, and so is the touchsensitive (white) back-button).
Is there anything i can do?
I tried to look up on this site and google, but always the solution is to reflash, but i can't since the volume down key trick does not work.
I have tried tons of things, but nothing seems to work. Especialy cause the device keeps restarting.
I rly would appreciate any help!
Since volume down key is not working so try to first unlocking bootloader(if possible luckily) and then flash the official 4.1.b.0.587 as it requires fastboot so it needs vol-up key not down...
Hope it works,
Best of luck
Press THANKS if I helped

First of all, thanks a lot for the quick response.
Could you please explain your answer a bit more? I'm kinda new at this.
How can i try unlocking bootloader? How do i use fastboot? (it's also an option in flashtool right?)
thx in advance!

His bootloader is already UNLOCKED... :what:
That's why he was able to flash a KERNEL...
And its need volume down key while connecting to flashtool for fastboot to flash the stock firmware and installing KERNEL...

He said, that he tried to install another kernel. Unsigned kernels require bootloader to be unlocked, else they cannot be installed.

He didn't installed any unsigned kernel he just installed the neo kernel which doesn't require the bootloader to be unlocked. I rooted my phone the same way and my bl was locked then. And he mentioned that he tried to install other kernel but he couldn't flash it due to problem with vol-down key.....

Hi, I need help to flash cm9 on a xperia neo.
My friend ask me to flash cm9 in his phone, but I never had a sony ericsson phone, so not what 'i know is helping.
He have a xperia neo build 4.0.2.A.0.42 and the bootloader is locked and don't allow the conventional unlocking method.
I searched everywhere but i couldn't find any way to solve this problem.
Thanks...
If the phone does not allows normal bootloader unlock you should do it via s1tool and testpoint method, but this is done at your own risk, this can brick the phone

Yeah, I read about that and I was trying to avoid it since it's not my phone... My friend will have to be happy with a rooted phone only.
But a thing I found strange about the root is that when I uninstall an app with titanium backup it returns after reboot, is there some kind of block in sony ericsson phones?

Never happened to me, titanium backup should ask to unnistal the app and then to remove the system and that should be it.

First make sure that you have all the fastboot drivers installed in your pc!
Switch off your device and while pressing the menu key connect the usb cable to it! You'll notice the led turns blue!
To make sure that your device is connected properly.. Enter fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version, and verify that you get a response back (for example "0.3"). This means your phone is connected properly.

Hi, I have a orange network locked xperia ray st18i locked bootloader. I downloaded pc companion and did a software update and all went well. The phone booted up fine after the update until I shut it down and since then I have been unable to get passed the SE screen. It just hangs there. I am able to enter flash mode by pressing the down button and plugging the usb in. Tried phone repair option and still no jog.
Today I tried to unlock the bootloader using the pin touching menthod but that didnt work either. Said something like fatal error....
I need to unlock the bootloader to try a alternative rom to see if that works or revert back to the stock orange rom it came with but im cannot find this anywhere. I am a learner so any advice would be helpful. CAn anyone suggest a rom for the ray that can be installed using flash method WITHOUT unlocked bootloader? I am a **** for doing the uprgrade via sony website but I didnt think this would happen. should have left it as it was.
Thanks for reading.
Take your battery out and try reflashing again using SEUS.
Thread moved to Xperia Ray Q&A.
Yes I have tried that many times already and it finishes the update correctly but still hangs on the SE logo when turned on. I tried again just to see if anything has changed. When I connected the phone whilst pressing the down vol button it recognised it and said your phone already has the latest software but I re installed anyway. No change in result though.
Sony have asked to send the phone to repair and they will reply with a quote for fixing it. Has anyone used this service before and how much can i expect to pay for a software install? Repair office is in Ashford, kent.
thanks

HAD YOU READ THE FIRST PART OF MY GUIDE YOU WOULD ALREADY KNOW. Had you even read the stickys in the General section you would have found one.
Right so I created the .ftf file from the three update files. Ive downloaded x10 flash tool. I connect the phone and flashtools registers that a phone is connected then start the flash but soon after the phone just gets disconnected.
any idea's?

Download the latest flashtool (I guess it's 0.9.x) and install it. Go to the drivers folder and install all the drivers for all the phones and modes. Now you launch flashtool, but don't connect the phone! Click on the flash -> flashmode -> select the ftf and don't exclude anything (you have the ability on the right site).
Now click OK and the screen to connect the phone in flashmode appears. Shut down the phone, wait 20 seconds, hold volume down and while holding volume down connect the phone to PC.
Wait until the flashing process has finished and hope it'll start!

Thanks for guiding me and yes it finally flashed BUT the phone still hangs on the SE logo when booted up. I read somewhere on here another member had the same issue and it turned out to be the bandwidth???
What should I try now?
Greetings.
My niece has an Xperia Neo V and she forgot her lockscreen password. There is no way to access the phone now so i figured out the only way to become usable again is to restore it to factory state. The problem is with the phone locked i can't go into settings and do the restore. Is there any way i can get into boot menu or recovery mode or something like that?
The phone is in either stock 2.3 Gingerbread or stock 4.0.4 ICS...can't be sure which one because i don't have access to the phone's information in the settings.
Before people start saying that i should search before i post, i found many post that pointed i needed to press some Power+volume button combinations when the phone is shutdown, but neither of those combinations worked, as with all combinations the phone booted normally and i didn't see any recovery or boot menu.
So how do i do it?
The phone is not rooted ofc, as its wearing stock Android..

if u go into flashmode in your phone ,
your computer (i assume its a windows pc and not any s***t apple product) will seach for the drivers automatically.
just connect phone in flashmode without opening flashtool.
after the drivers install
flash the stock .ftf file.
and BTW stock sony software dosn't let any1 set a pin/password without alt question.
or maybe she would've forgotten it..

Hi guys, i don't know how to solve a problem with my Sola. I read the recover soft-brick guide for xperia models but i can't solve it. I think i bricked.
When i try to turn on it's on Sony screen and there's nothing to do. I can use on flash mode and flash the kernel but the result is the same when i turn on. The led works like green in flash mode, or red when i finish the flash and the device is still connected. I have a locked bootloader, and all this happened when i wanted to restore a backup, i probably made a mistake: do a full wipe after that. I think that's is still in warranty, isnt' it? What can i do? There are some tips on the tutorial but i'm afraid to kill the battery or make other mistakes. Please help me guys.
And sorry for my bad english =(

can you please explain it, step by step,
because im a newbie, i just studied this rooting and custom ROM things in two days

thanks for the suggestion
Download mode can be achieved by first
power off your device
Try a combo of power and one of the volume buttons
When the buttons light up keep holding till you see a yellow triangle
From there plug into your PC
Then attempt to "flash" back to a working ROM with your PC
For my device(s) download mode is found by using the #1 button on the hard keyboard and the power button at the same time (epic 4G) and for my (my touch 3G) other device it can be found by pressing volume up and the power button.
For your device try the following Google search, just replace the bit between the "<>" with the name of your device and it should pull up a solution by page two of the Google search
"how to"+"download mode"+<name-of-device> similar:XDA
oh and the issue you're having is called a "boot loop" and is usually fixable by going back to stock and re-rooting after.
