I'm considering buying this device, and I was wondering what people think of it, how the development is, and last but not least, how hard is it getting used to the size. I've played around with it for a little bit, but $300 is a little hard to swallow for something I'm unsure of. I appreciate any opinions... BTW I looked for a general talk thread before I posted here

I haven't read many complaints at all. I didn't have to get use to the size, it was nice right away.
Look in the development sections, it was rooted 2 or 3 days after release and the bootloader was unlocked a week later.
There are at least 5 or 6 ROMs out for it at the moment.
I have owned about 12 android phones since the OG DROID.... This is easily the best phone I have ever owned. The size feels normal now... Doesn't feel big at all. I could never go to a smaller screen now. This phone is stupid fast too.... All around awesome
Sent from my most awesome phone EVER!!!!
i have to say this is my best upgrade since going from the curve to the original droid. Ive had the droid x, thunderbolt, charge, and gs3, but this is just another world of usefulness. I havent turned my tablet on since getting it.
I have owned practically every Motorola android phone. This is my first Samsung. I am thoroughly impressed. It's absolutely awesome. At this point it would take me a lot to go back to Motorola - or a smaller phone. I love the size of it. It has almost replaced both my tablets. I would highly recommend it.

Best phone I've owned, I'm 6'5 so the size makes no issue to me. I feel funny holding any other device now. Don't forsee myself ever owning anything smaller. On the other hand, rumors of the n3 being 6.3in are crazy? This device is sized perfectly.
I was also able to haggle with Verizon down to $250, tell them you know a manager in another territory that can ship you phone on discount but you don't wanna wait, tell them you want to walk out with it today (when you go in). Discount is around $60 from a territory manager I know...
Good luck!

No regrets at all I was scared to jump on it but after having the phone for a little while it's amazing.
I think you'll have more trouble getting used to the size of any phone other than this one once you've used it. After one day with this phone I don't imagine I could ever use a smaller phone again. As for development, considering how new it is, it's pretty impressive. We have a few TouchWiz and AOSP roms already. I thought 300 was outrageous at first (considering all other high-end phones are about 200) but considering the amount of phone (feature-wise and physically) it is pretty reasonable. Just go for it. I am (almost) willing to personally guarantee you'll love it.

I just got this phone yesterday. I paid full retail price for it. I thought I would be disappointed, however I love it. I have had the OG droid, the Galaxy nexus, Droid bionic, HTC rezound... and now this. The OG droid was my favorite before this. All the phones in between were pretty bogus, none of them met my expectations. This phone is a massive leap in hardware and software compared to all the others.
You ask that question on this forum.. what results are you excepting? If people are here, they are fans of the device.
As for me, it's awesome. I got my teenage son one too, he is ecstatic.
I couldn't decide and finally just said **** it since Verizon extended the return period. So far I'm very happy. Came from a Galaxy Nexus...

im in the same boat , bought off contract to keep unlimited data. In coming from a gnexus I will say that I love love love the hardware but I hate the software. I've become such a CM fanboy that i think im just jaded to sloppy looking touchwiz and carrier bloat. ill be in heaven once some official cm nightlies start rolling out. for now the jelly beans rom and nova have hidden a lot of the touchwiz bs but theres still a lot to remove to be back to normal. I have to also add that im very impressed with the battery life of this thing.
I paid the full price for and I hate paying full price for anything and it was worth it. You part of the club yet?

Getting a new phone in a few weeks and, while I love my eris and have for a while, I just want a new phone. Soo, I figured I'd ask my fellow eris owners what phone I should move on too. I was thinking either thunderbolt (it's 199.99 certified preowned) or dinc2 for 150.00. I want the charge but it's out of my budget. What do you guys think? I'd appreciate the help.
Sent from my EverVolv Eris using XDA Premium App
If you spend a lot of time in a 4G area, and you download/upload lots of data, the Thunderbolt may be best for you. If these factors are not important to you the Dinc 2 might be best.
Yeah, I'm thinking thunderbolt too. Thanks man. Thanks to all the devs here I had the best possible experience with my eris that I could imagine. Thanks especially to tazz whose roms were amazing and were the main ones that I used.

Bionic??
I am really leaning towards the Bionic. It is supposed to be out soon.
My area will have 4G by the end of the year and I can't see getting anything that isn't 4G capable. I have thought about the TB, but I am not sure I can live with the battery, the Charge is very expensive for what you get and the only other option is the LG Revolution. It is high on my list.
I am going to wait and see what happens with the Bionic over the next few weeks.

Personally, my contract is up in sept 15 and i don't plan on getting a 4g phone. I still think those phones have bugs and verizon keeps putting out updates to fix them. I will wait at least a year before i upgrade to 4g. I would probably go with incredible 2. Not sure if SGS II will be 4g or not. You could always wait for that.
Hanging on to my Eris for as long as possible.
I just upgraded from Eris to TBolt about a week ago. The plus one inch screen jump is a bit jarring but otherwise, I'm quite happy with my phone. (At least regarding development) the rom community is still pretty fractured with nothing quite as rock-solid as all the awesome Eris roms here but it's so incredibly active (I doubt it will be so for long... anxiously awaiting a CM7 update).
Anyway, phone-wise, I love my thunderbolt and the great build quality as long as the heft doesn't bother you. Battery life, the biggest complaint, is perfectly manageable and over stated. The rooting processing can be pretty intense but afterwards with a nice, new kernel it lasts a couple days no problem.

Hey Guys! I'm visiting from the Droid X forums wondering about a certain idea i have been thinking about for a while....
The droid X has been plagued since its conception by its locked bootloader. Even though the dev field has made aw esome strides with this device (2nd-init)(Don't worry if you dont know what that is), we still have to rely on Moto giving us updated kernels. We do have Gingerbread, but the Droid X will likely never see ICS.
I really dont feel like buying a brand new phone for a while, mostly because im friggin broke lol. One of my best buddies has a Captivate, and I love the ease of use when it comes to flash-ability and complete control of the phone, especially with the unbrickable mod! With all these pluses, and the fact that since the Fascinate is a Galaxy S phone, with the same internals as the Nexus S, I'm fairly sire that the phone will get ICS some how.
I already have a used phone I have found that a guy is selling for really cheap. Depending on its condition, would you say its a good buy?
Thanks is advance!

Anyone else have thoughts?
Yes the fascinate is still worth buying if you can score one for a 100bucks. development is still going fairly strong for being over a year old.
I think the Fascinate is a great phone. I'm sure we'll be seeing ICS not too long after the source drops. Just like droidstyle said, if you can find one that cheap, I'd do it. I bought mine back in the summer for $200 and haven't regretted it yet..... This upgrade I have is burning a hole in my pocket though... Damned Galaxy Nexus! XD
Yes
The fascinate is still hands down a very powerful phone. My buddy just got the Droid Bionic and it only gets average 25 fps in quadrant scores. My fascinate gets about 50 or more. So, yes it is still an awesome phone.

Well, it started with the many replacements of the tbolt, then HTC's hard stance against updating their tablets kinda pushed me over the edge, then they updated the flyer/view to broken software and they wont even fix it. Now the Rezound is having touchscreen issues. So I'm just tired of dealing with the problems and the lack of OEM support after purchase. I appreciate the Dev community for the zound, but sammy seems to be stronger in that dept. So I think I am going to give them a shot. I won't touch Moto with a ten foot pole. It may be a bad move, but I'm willing to take that risk after all the issues I have had recently with HTC. So for me, from here on out, it's going to be Nexus, or Samsung.
Samsung is worse.
I love my Rez and I still think of it as probably one of the, if not the most undervalued android phone released to date, but I don't see myself going for yet another carrier exclusive device after this. Of course, reviews might be so great for the DNA that I could change my mind but so far I am not that impressed.
Having said that however, the lack of a LTE capable Nexus 4 kinda limits the options for those looking to upgrade atm and I really cant see myself with a Galaxy S device. Wish Sony would be given a chance at penetrating the US market, they seem to strike a fair balance between corporate dev support, hardware and software quality.
I'll be getting this. The hardware and build quality will be top notch, it can be unlocked through HTCs dev website and be able to load cm. It was between this and the note but son, I am dissapoint at it having the older gen exynos and 720p screen on a 5.5 inch screen.
no, my next phone will be honor 2 or note 2
battery is important factor to me now

Its looking like ill most likely be getting it. I'm thinking ill be getting the DNA and one other new gen phone probably a GSM phone since I have two contracts, one with ATT and one with Verizon.
But I will be more careful than usual with this purchase. I'm currently so broke I can't afford the down payment on a grilled cheese sandwich. But this phone is a priority, and I owe it to the BAMF community. So I've been saving my pennies and will be selling some stuff to raise some funds.

in my house, my gs3 gets about 6kbps download on 3g.
my rezound, when its not pulling 4g in my house (which the nexus and GS3 CAN'T), pulls atleast half a meg to a meg per second. doing anything on the gs3 on 3g is terrible, and ridiculously slow. fb app won't even load. rezound loads it no problem. hell, i even tethered 3 tablets to my rezound last night and while we were all browsing at the same time, ti was STILl faster than my gs3
i don't think i'd buy antoher samsung phone ever again, and i really want the DNA...dunno if i wanna fork out 600 bones for it tohugh
Just curious on what other LGOG users think of the HTC One announced today? I had the international HTC One X and really liked the phone, the camera was leaps and bounds better than the one on the LGOG. The LGOG camera, IMHO, is just ok.
The reason I left the One X for the LGOG was because AT&T lit up LTE in my area just as the LGOG was launched. I didn't hear great things about the One X+ so I went for the LGOG.

Me too. At least the development was fantastic though.
Nope. I came from the One X (AT&T variant) and while the camera was top notch, the locked bootloader, 2.20 root fiasco and a pretty locked down device isn't worth it. It was also my first HTC device and after experiencing Sense firsthand they can take that crap and shove it. It kills the device and is about as laggy and bad as Motoblur in it's heyday.
Now having vented about it I will say this, the device is still within the family AND that dev community here on XDA is topnotch and first rate. Very helpful to noobs and very, very good at getting the device blazing fast and customized.
HTC is just not for me as far as manufacturers go and I won't ever be owning another one unless it's free.
Man what are we going to buy? I got a moto one time. Everybody swore they would not buy another. So I got a sammy. Burned again. So i thought ok its because I'm not buying flagships. So I got the vivid practically on release day. Worst decision ever. Now I got this phone. Which I happen to love. U know every phone I own eventually got Aosp. I think it just does not happen fast enough for some people.

Not at all. HTC makes good devices, but there's no guarantee that you will be able to unlock the bootloader, for OS upgrades (I never count on AT&T providing support for the devices that they sell). In addition, the LGOG more than meets my needs for the foreseeable future. Why spend money if I don't see it as a meaningful upgrade.

Bah. If you don't mind switching carriers it is easy to break the contract, sell the old phone for most /all of the ETF. So getting new phones isn't really that hard financially - If you are willing to change carriers.

This is what I do, except I don't always switch between VZW and AT&T. Most of the time I can buy a phone outright keep it for 6 months sell it and buy a new one. It's amazing the deals you can get on eBay and Craigslist. If you do it right, you are out of pocket $200 to $300 a year which is what everyone pays to get a phone on a 2 year contract.
Posssibly. It seems a neat phone, but I will wait for the reviews. I'm getting more and more hiccups and glitches in my OG, and I believe at least 2 are hardware. I hate HTC, but I like metal phones and stereo sound. We'll see.

I came from HTC evo 3d , rooting , unlocking were fairly easy, it was getting the s-off that was a pain! I don't know if anyone had the "wire trick" fun lol. But after all that I had 4.2 cm10 and man that device screamed!
Now , I have never owned a lg but besides the slow go on development, which is just because the phone is so new and waiting for true jb release to att . I love this phone! Took me a while to get over my flashaholic nature , and with aosp to come out any day I'm excited!
The camera is sketchy, but if your trying to take professional photos, get a real camera in my opinion. Otherwise, I don't think I'll ever look back at HTC ,
Its not about what you know , but who you know.
Trying to get some opinions here. I have a ATT unlocked Note i717 and a guy wants to trade his brand new Nexus 4. I know to some this may be a no brainier but from what I've seen it's not all that. And it's made by LG. I was thinking it'd be a advantage to get and trade for something else but it's not that popular in my area it seems. And granted you can get it for $300 for the 8GB and $350 for the 16gb (which he has).
I love my note and don't have any issues with it really. What do you guys think?
I would do it, especially if it is a straight-up trade.
Yes, it is LG, but Nexus 4 and Optimus G (and pro) are very well-made phones.
Nexus 4 will get updates right away, and has better specs. In the long-run, it is a better phone to keep. As much as I love my Note, I would trade it for a Nexus 4 in a heartbeat.

yet the nexus 4 was just labelled as #1 most likely to break... atleast 2-3 times a week i see people posting their broken glass nexus phones, happens way to often.
any phone made of glass front and back is not worth it unless your getting some hefty ass case for it. no clue why lg didnt learn from apples mistake with ip4/4s glass backs always broke, same happens here on nexus 4's/lg g's
and yes it will get STOCK ota update faster, but most people run aftermarket roms which get updated just as fast, so i have no clue why people try and use "gets updates first" as a selling point to people, esp on xda
but to op, id go into a carrier that has a lg optimus g and see how you like it before trading just to be sure your ok with smaller screen, i got an s3 recently and gave it to my sister 2 days later, the screen size was to much of a deal breaker.
I bought a nexus 4 a few months ago and was able to get $360 for my note on eBay.
Took a few days to adjust to a smaller screen size but I got used to it.
No LTE kinda sucks but I've been getting over 10MB down on HSPA+ so I can't complain there
Battery life has been somewhat disappointing but the N4 charges very fast and I never find myself going that long without access to a charger
Other than those gripes the phone is really, really good. I wouldn't hesitate taking the N4 over the Note and I loved my Note.

I am running 4.2.2 on my G-Note..doesn't feel like a sinking ship to me...and the N4 isn't LTE enabled, and has no SD expansion..and its made by LG...LG has been rather lack luster in my opinion . I dont care if the N4 was the same size as the note, I still wouldn't do it. In terms of Nexus phones, the N4 was a flop. Just my opinion .

Getting an s3 was the best decision I ever made. So much smoother and better imo.
That being said I would take a note 2 in a heart beat.
Flop? The note is probably not going to see official jb and ics is laggy.
The sales of the nexus 4 are insane, the gpu/cpu destroys the notes.
I would make the trade just for the specs the of note is great especially with a custom ROM but eventually it will be outdated you will get more life with the nexus 4.

Well I took the trade and haven't looked back. This is a way ahead of the Note in terms of specs. The screen size was not a issue at all. Don't take this as dogging the note cause I'd pick one up any day, but as far as the market is concerned this would be in the top picks.
For all the comments about the build and it breaking, well to each their own. I've had zero issues with mine. Some people don't really use caution when handling already cheaply made devices. And it goes for any phone that it's possible to come with defects from the factory.
As far as LTE, the Nexus 4 is capable of. With the .33 radio and a custom rom it's no stranger. T-Mobile has only launched LTE in a few cities but it'll soon get around.

I just sold my note today. Waiting for my nexus 4 to ship. Hopefully it doesn't take long. The reason I choose the n4 over the note is that development over at the n4 forum is pretty busy.
