Installing "Unsupported" apps - HTC Droid DNA

Hi guys
I've had a look around and understand that I'll need to edit the 'build prop' so that my device is recognised as another phone in order to have a more widespread choice of apps.
I want to install Need for Speed most wanted but the application cannot be found in the Play store and installing via the web based Play store is not allowed due to the app not being supported.
It makes me wonder how many other apps I could be missing out on!
Would anyone be able to recommend the changes to make as I don't want to make any mistakes and also how to go about making changes - I know this currently can't be done via a file explorer and probably has to be done via recovery.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Are you running custom or stock? And just throwing this out that I'm pretty sure NFS doesn't work on our phones. A review I watched showed that it just displays a black screen.

I am guessing that whether stock or rooted, by installing apps from unknown sources, you are betting (praying, might also help) that some nefarious developer out there is not smart enough to leave some "cool" bug on your device.
But I'm not positive by any means, either.

Don't know what OS you're running but both NFS run great on HD2 Ansar 8773 ROM (and in years of sideloading apps I've yet to encounter some mythical '"cool" bug' - even in WM6.5 but least of all in the protected WP7 OS..Android is a different story!)

USA Today

Anyone know why this does not show up in the market?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
Its not Compatible. Someone else asked this a couple of weeks ago and it wasnt compatible at that time either. It could be maybe cause of the screen resolution maybe. Thats my guess. If u go into the Market on your PC and search USA Today it will pop-up. And if you are singed in and click Install you know how it tell you to choose the device you'd like to install it on? you'll notice that the Verizon listed device will say "not compatible with this device".....Sorry man!!
Got same question. Thx for the answer!
i restored it as a backup from DX2, FCs instantly
but yes, incompatible really is correct sometimes lol
You could always install rss reader and use their rss feed. The application is called Feedr

Google Now on ICS

You may have already seen this but if not, XDA member febcyv has managed to get google now working with ICS.
Link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749045
I have not tried this on my TF300 yet, but if anyone else has I would be eager to find out how you got on.
Good luck and enjoy
Just installed it, and everything wet smoothly. I have no idea what I am expecting now though, it appears to have just replaced the search bar. Nothing different seems to have happened so far.
Edit: I had to install the modified Velvet-theos0o.apk file in order to get it to work properly. Voice search isn't working but that seems to be a common issue.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
if you search factual questions it should now bring up "knowledge cards" with your answer rather than a google search.
Also try holding home and dragging up, it may open "google now" which is supposed to act a bit like your PA and learn your routine
I'm also doing a bigger more widespread port of this over in the android development>apps and games section
We have both a flashable .zip and an .apk. It has a strong effort into getting voice to work. If you want check it out. Go ahead!

Is there any versions out for non-rooted devices? Don't feel too good rooting my new device, would lose the quarantee
Unlocking voids warranty, rooting doesn't.
It says that it requires a "A Rooted device running ICS AOSP Rom". I'm rooted but NOT unlocked and therefore NOT running a custom ROM.
This won't work for me. Right?

Im not 100% sure, but I would imagine that the stock ROM is close enough to AOSP for it to work.
I think it probably would work, but you may want to wait for someone else to confirm

I'm the head of one of the Google Now for ICS projects and you can probably install this normally. Just make sure not to delete your original "GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk" file. Just rename it and have it on hand to put back if anything goes wrong.

Multi-questions

Let me first say :glad to be back (3-4 years back had a nokia with symbian that with the help of this forum i did minor modifications to)on the forum and out of the clutches of apple(3-4 days ago traded iphone 4 32gb for LGOG)
Now first question: I've rooted my phone attempting to remove any and all bloatware, however I can't seem to remove it?
Second question: in regards to cases what's the differences between att and sprint LGOG's?
Third question: how do I sent picture messages? Seems like a dumb question but every time I try to do so the message says something like "picture too big ,compressing" now normally that's fine it compresses the picture I send and its good however when I get said message the text I had started to send to whomever is gone and I'm back at the message as if I never started it?
Fourth question: how do I send a multiple contact message?
Finally : since this was a multiple question post, I did search , did read, tried everything I could think of to avoid asking a repeated-a-million-times-question , sorry if I did and sorry if I put in wrong part of forum
Thank you sincerely
LGOG rookie

Nope, you have to pay for it in the app store.
Or you can search and take a look in the other section (like the development section). I could be wrong, I dunno.

You should be able to disable most bloat through settings, manage applications, then all. Click on the app you want to disable and go to town.

install titanium backup ROOT , delete any apps you do not want, really I just deleted most of the at&t stuff or stuff that requires you to purchase other things. one app that is worth its money is root explorer, sounds like you are new to android, one helpful tip to you is when you do buy these things in the play store you will always have it as long as you remember your google account, get a new device bam, still have the apps you purchased.
Yes I'm extremely new to droid as a whole
Let alone rooting and other info
Been trying to avoid posting a millions questions that could be avoided with a couple searches, I'm coming from iphone .
Iphones are insanely simple compared to droid ,however with the right tweaks droid can prevail for sure.

I phones seem simple because they don't have any of the customizations that android does. So, I guess iPhone is simple and not in a good way.
Also, "droid" is more commonly used to refer to the phone model by Motorola. We generally use the term android when speaking of the OS in broader terms. But more commonly we use the specific term for the version of Android or ROM that we're speaking of at the moment, Jelly Bean, AOSP, stock, for example. You'll get the hang of it.

Download the free Freegee App from the play store.
Run the app. Backup EFS. Click unlock Bootloader.
Boot into Fast Boot, then CWM or TWRP (depending what recovery you chose when using Freegee)
Make a backup.
Reboot phone and get an app called Titanium Backup (paid version has more options)
Using Titanium Backup you can uninstall bloatware or freeze them if you have the paid version (this is easiest and safest I believe)
OR you can use Root Explorer or a similar root file manager to manually delete each apk
Be careful what you delete. There is a post here listing what apps can safely be removed without messing up your phone.
Read twice, click once. Good luck

I would also have to say to the new guys...dont get all wound up on installing a new rom, trust me I have upgraded lots of roms from backflip, atrix, htc inspire but all those needed it. I have to say the original rom that comes on these LG's is pretty good, unless it doesnt do what you need it to I wouldnt worry about a new rom. root it so you can delete some of the bloat.
100% agreed. Amazing Rom for stock. I did the same thing and I'm loving it

Ain't nobody got time for that
If one was using the stock ROM but had it rooted, updating would presumably deroot the device, right? Or would the update fail?
I meant Q-slide was suppose to be working with other apps, like the whole browser not just certain videos, and it was suppose to work with other apps natively. In the notification bar there was suppose to be a Q-slide bar under the brightness bar and you could select apps to play over your current app.

bloat isn't really a factor here but we can all expect better JB roms

Dude I NEVER had that option since I took the phone out the box at the AT&T store. You're saying you had that to begin with? I find that very odd....
So I did some searching around to see exactly what Q Slide is SUPPOSED to be and I think you must have this feature confused with something else or another phone all together. Even on various videos and LG's own website, Q Slide is used to watch VIDEOS and use apps at the same time. It says absolutely nothing about having 2 different apps on top of each other at the same time. I think you are confusing yourself mate.

Why you root the phones ?

Hi
I want to know what is your personally reason for root the phone?
I rooted my phone because want to try something new, i like changes, want to know something about rooting, want to install add away and call recorder from skvalex.
What about You ? Which apps do you use for rooted phones?
P.S
This thread can give me ideas or new way to use phone, new apps which i dont know, etc.
I do it because I can. And because I like the freedom root access allows.

Get rid of bloatware, get inverted Google apps.

But what " freedom root access" mean? What do you have with it and what do you do ? That what i want to know because i want discover more then i know - even if i dont know
I rooted due to customization, few apps like titanium backup pro, cwm, reverse Tethering
I love to be controller of my gadget not some os
Android as-is offers a lot of customization, but rooting it unlocks a whole new level of customization and offers things never possible without root privileges.
How some people can enjoy the locked-down state of iOS is beyond me, or letting themselves be controlled by Apple in the first place.
It offer you more option to do with your phone.
Hope I help u

I came into rooting because I bought a Vodafone 360[i8320] which had linux mobile on it and great specs for that day. With that phone you could connect to the Vodafone 360 forum were you can buy apps(limo) for €5 and share your contacts and connect to 360 people.
Within +/- a year the 360 forum was dead. I found the H1 Droid forum were people weer busy porting Android on that phone. It had much benefits: custom roms flashing and making backups, adjusting the phone in every aspect; from keylayout to dpi to overclocking to kernel adjusting. Getting adds out of free apps and getting apps for free.
Nowadays I enjoy a G. Nexus which I immediately rooted after buying it.
