Drwario is correct. The software can't be posted on the forums. However Carret included a guide for it in his Guide.

Then why not download the ruu or the combined radios from one of the many places found with the search and pull them from there? Not that hard to pull them from either and flash only one or the other that way, if you really do know what you're doing.

Here is a link to the latest radios. This is both in one.

Since we have the original file, has anyone tried to RUU back/downgrade to the previous version? I feel like this is too obvious and won't work.

Yeap there's safeguards in place to keep people from flashing firmware older than what's currently installed on a locked device.

I offered $20 to the first person to post a working exploit to unlock the bootloader after taking the OTA. Just thought I would repost this offer here. I prob won't monitor both threads. PM me if you posted first and want the cash! Thanks in advance.

You should contact the guy who was offering to s off via the oem jtag method. His price was very reasonable, and a quick turnaround. His thread is titled something along the lines of "S-off for the impatient"
His s off service wasn't much more expensive than the $20 you put up for bounty money.

I think he was questioning whether there were updates that would prevent him from rooting. Could be wrong.
But I completely understand wanting to be a **** at all opportunities.
My question was poorly worded. If the replacement phone comes with the locked bootloader because of the vrall4 update. Am I going to have the ability to unlock and root it?
Of course I don't like the stock phone, it's awful.

I'll post back when my update is done. I just started it about one minute ago. I never rooted my G2, so I'm not really concerned about it bricking. It does say on my screen that it is currently updating software 1/2, so it appears that the update is two files.

Oh okay, anyway glad that you did not get a brick . I know its not your responsibility to write in the OP something like.
"Even though I am showing you a rooted phone before pressing or not pressing the update button. I am not gonna update because I am rooted. "
Maybe it could have saved problems for the other guy in here.
Anyway enough of the OT lets get some info about the update

I don't know about this phone, but on a couple previous phones you could do it by modifying the fingerprint in the build.prop to match the new update.
