I have a rooted droid x using wireless tether and also have barnacle installed, depends on the day which one works best. I can connect my laptop no problem. My htc evo won't find the wireless signal?? I tried using bluetooth also, still won't work. Does the evo prohibit peer to peer?

It's because wireless tether for root users and barnacle both setup ad-hoc networks. Android doesn't see ad-hoc networks like your pc does. Search on this and there are some files that have been edited on other device that could help get around this, although I never had any luck. There's been a mobile access point ported for the vibrant that I'm using now, that creates an infrastructure mode, maybe they have one for your device?
I recently just switched from Clesmyn+Caulkin to Flashback 5.1 and now I cannot connect to my phones wireless tether? It doesn't even see the network. I can connect to other wireless networks just fine. My phone is a Droid Eris running nonsensikal froyo.
Try Wireless Tether for Root.

I was using wireless tether for root. I am currently downloading flashback 5.2 which apparently has the fix.
Edit: 5.2 fixed this issue
hi. resently i got a droid x2 as a replacement. and i cant get the wifi tether app to work on it. it is rooted and just wont work. my last droid x worked with the liberty rom on it. but i cant get this one to work. can some one let me know how to make it work . or if it even works on the x2? thanks.
Both the release and beta versions from http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ work just fine for me.
Sometimes my laptops have trouble connecting, and to fix it I restart the tether but once they're connected it's very reliable and does not disconnect.
Wifi Tether versions I've used: 3.1 beta 2 and 2.0.7
There is now a wifi tether v3 beta 5 available and I have not tested that one yet.
I did try those apps. I practically tried all of them. It just doesn't put out any wifi. Before I used my DROID x to tether with my ps3 but now my ps3 wont even pick up the access point.

The wifi tether for the DROID X2 doesn't do infrastructure mode, it does ad-hoc mode.
That may be why the PS3 doesn't pick it up.
This phone will only broadcast in adhoc mode, and your device probably needs infrastructure mode. I've tried everything imaginable to get it to work with no luck.
Is there any way to make it broadcast in infrastructure mode?

The kernel of the phone has to support it, and our's does not.
*If* the bootloader is ever unlocked, we will be able to change the kernel to support infrustructure.
Dam that sucks. Well I guess we'll just have to wait an see if anyone gets the bootloader unlocked. But thanks for letting me know guys.

Managed to get pdaNET to work in usb or bluetooth mode, however that's a bit of a pain..
Does anyone know of a configuration to get the wifi tether app to work? or an easy workaround?
Use the built in Wireless hotspot
