Have i bricked my phone? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I installed stock rom 4.1.2, by deleting caches, and factory reset. then i used odin and flashed the rom. I had cm10 earlier.
Now when i turn my phone on it just shows the spinning thingy that turns into the samsung logo. The led flashes blue all the time. I can't do anything.

Try factory reseting from the stock recovery or if you do not want to loose your data flash a clockworkmod recovery then factory reset

THANK YOU. I think i panicked and didn't think about it in the first place. Cheers.

[Q] Won't boot, worked fine, then bootloop, now it freezes (using CM9 ICS Nightly)

Hi Friends,
Model Number - GT-P7510
I recently rooted and installed the CM9 ICS nightly rom using the noob video instructions (This included rooting with Odin, installing CMW recovery 4.0.0.4, then I flashed the ROM cm-9-20120624 Nightly and finally flashed GAPPS-ics).
I over clocked using the CM9 settings and everything worked perfectly for about a week, it was great. Then it just crashed while I was reading my email and began to bootloop. After reading for similar errors I rebooted to recovery and tried wiped the cache and dalvic cache, I wiped data and factory reset several times but nothing worked, always the same bootloop. I re flashed the same ROM and still nothing, after a while the boot screen would simply freeze instead of bootloop.
Then I connected to my PC, and did this to no avail. In fact it simply added to the problem by adding a yellow warning triangle while attempting to boot so I did the Oden thing again like the first time I rooted however I installed CMW version 5.5.0.4 instead thinking it might help but it hasn't.
One last point, when I attempt to wipe data/factory reset the tablet seems to freeze and attempt to reboot rather than say something like "success" as it would during a cache wipe. This maybe normal or it maybe the problem! who knows?
On that point, I would be very grateful if some of you could help get me to the point when my PC recognises the tablet so I can reflash a new ROM.
Thanks in advance,
Karl
I once got the same problem. The only thing that helped was to flash back the stock rom via Odin with the pit file. And don't forget to do a hard reset after flashing the rom. I'll just stick to the stock rom until the official update is getting released.

Questions go in the Q&A section
I think the best way is still to do factory reset, go back to the stock ROM first and try custom HC ROM until the official ICS is released.

[Q] Re-flashing stock firmware

Hi all,
So I was trying to re-flash a friend's S3 stock firmware I9300XXBLFB via odin and 1 file ROM, everything went fine but when the device rebooted it wasn't back to factory, in fact all the data was still there as if nothing happened. So I shut down the phone, rebooted into recovery and did a wipe/cache and wipe/data factory reset, rebooted, this is when it got back to factory condition. My question is why didn't it work the first time after I flashed with Odin? Is it because I didn't tick on re-partition and had no PIT file???
That's how it should work to ensure upgrading/updating newer firmware doesn't wipe phone data. Otherwise, we will be very headache

So ur saying that it's normal that nothing changes after flashing via odin??? Why not just skip this step then and just do a wipe cache and wipe data from recovery???

Flashing using odin is to change phone firmware /rooting or any mods that are flashable via odin. Is not meant to wipe phone.

Ok, So let's say I messed up my phone and the software get stuck a lot and I wanna get it back as new, do I just do a wipe data/factory reset and wipe/cache partition from recovery??

hi!
to get that brand new feeling, you have to flash a stock firmware first and just basically reset to factory settings no need to wipe caches because that is already taken care of when you do a factory reset
i hope this helps!

but the above poster Arsaw said there's no need to flash via odin to do a wipe...
Yes. First step to fix bugs is to factory reset which will wipe everything and start from scratch.

Quick question, why does Odin show the ID:COM field in Cyan and not yellow? Is it like this in the new versions? Also will Odin do the flashing process even if USB Debugging is enabled??
Yes, newer odin should show cyan colour.
Normally is it suggested to enable the debugging when flashing with odin. Why you think it will fail?

Nvm, I was just wondering
Thanks a lot for the help, appreciate it

[Q] Trying to restore to ATT stock, locks at ATT "rethink..." screen

Hello all, could use some help here.
I'm trying to restore my Note to the factory ROM and I'm running into an issue.
Fyi, I had the latest Paranoid JB Rom from Oct 13.
I followed the proceedures outlined in the forums (used ODIN to restore the default "attstockrom") and after that restore the phone would loop rebooting into ATT rethink possible animation screen.
I found and downloaded the latest 4.04 rom for the phone (I717UCLF6) and rebooted. Now it just hangs at the "ATT Rethink possible" graphic (no animation, no loop).
Odin does see the device fine so I can reflash again with no problems if I need to. I'm thinking of trying the I717UCLA1 version from Jan to see if that works but I'm hoping I can get some better advice before I do something that might cause more permanent problems.
Any advice on how to get back to stock ICS (or even JB) and get the phone working again?
Thanks!
Try doing a factory data/cache wipe from Recovery.
I flashed the stock rom via ODIN. There is no factory data/cache wipe since there's no custom recovery.
Are you suggesting flashing CWM/TWRP on the phone now then doing that?
Houston we have liftoff. Thanks for the tip Fappa, that got me into the phone (reinstalled cwm, factory reset). However I'd still like to remove CWM and go back to completely stock....
I'm not overly worried about it as I'm selling the phone but I'd like the new owner to have a completely clean phone in case they need to send it in at some point for repair. But in any case it's up and running with CWM and factory ICS rom.

I'm sure fappa meant to use the stock android recovery and wipe. when I go back to stock it always hangs at AT&T boot logo and have to wipe/reset from stock recovery to get it to boot.

Yes do what they say or you will continue to boot loop.

Phone stopped working

Hi my data/cell services completely stopped working all of a sudden and I need to get the phone to complete stock.
I have tried flashing a restore through odin but it is not working. Any thoughts or help?
Something has been going around where CM10.2 has borked a lot of Note2s...
Flash a touchwiz based rom, stock if you got it.
in settings go to backup & recovery and factory reset from there.
when it boots again it should work.
if you get into a boot loop wipe data/factory reset in cwm.

I tried that and it didn't fix it so I odin'd back to stock but even that hasn't worked
Hope you used pit file along with stock rom in odin

If after you are true stock and unrooted, did the factory reset in backup & recovery, and it's still borked, I would go ahead and run CASUAL and see what that does then if it doesn't work then pull the battery and sim, turn phone back on while pressing up volume, home, and power to get into CWM and do a data wipe factory reset there.
Be sure you are using the correct stock rom though... if you are unsure just flash different ones...

[Q] Downgrading to 4.3 from 4.4.2

Hi,
Yesterday I have updated my Galaxy S3 I9300 to Kitkat 4.4.2 using a custom ROM. While I wasn't satisfied with the performance of that custom ROM, I have downloaded the Stock 4.3 firmware and tried to downgrade it using ODIN.
All went smoothly till my S3 stuck on Samsung Logo while rebooting with 4.3 installed. It does nothing now except stuck on the Samsung Logo.
I am afraid that I did brick my phone.
Any help will be highly appreciated as I need my phone back to work urgently
Thanks...
Factory reset
Phone doesn't boot mate...so can't do Factory Reset...
Thanks anyways...

Yes you can.
If you flashed with Odin, you will now have stock recovery. Boot into it by using power+home+volume up. And choose 'wipe data/factory reset' from the menu.
This WILL wipe your internal storage too, but since your phone isn't booting there isn't much you can do about that.
