Hi
I am running Rootbox 2.9 which has android 4.1.2 but I can not make a Nandroid backup.
It runs the process of backing up but then in the end it says,
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum...
Error while generating md5 sum!
and it stops there.
What should I do. any ideas ?
This has been asked & answered 9,871,450,098,672,149 times in the 14 mths I've been coming here. Search.
I can't see how is that true. I tried searching for "Nandroid backup" or "CWM backup" but cannot find any thread with the same problem. Most of the threads are people asking to backup their stock rom's before trying a Custom Rom.
I am asking for the opposite. If you know the answer please let me know.
As I was saying... (I get the sneaking suspicion you can't be bothered reading/doing a bit of work. Funny bout that eh ?)
I never knew how to search like that. I used the search tool here on XDA. Anyway it seems that the way you searched via Google puts the results from all over the XDA forum and not only on Galaxy s2 section.
Anyway in the meantime I tried backuping with an app called Online Nandroid Backup found on Play Store. It did the whole process but not sure it is right. here is a screenshot inside the backup folder... I'd appreciate if someone can confirm this backup contanis all the required files to be a succesful backup

I saw this comment by another user in another thread this morning and guess that many people don't do this automatically.

The update destroys your internal sd memory, this is where titanium likes to back up . Enjoy going through the pain of re-installing all your apps from scratch. ( for the love of god change where titanium backsup AND sync it to your drop box) Every thing in your download folder is also going to be vaporized.

When I setup Titanium Backup, I always make sure that it is using the real external SDcard instead of the internal card it uses by default. I'm surprised the app doesn't ask when it is run the first time, but it doesn't.
It is easy to change, especially if you don't have any backups yet. Even if you do, it will move them to the new folder you setup in the process.
The mount point for the external SDCard can be one of two though I normally use the system default one which is
Code:
/mnt/sdcard/ext_sd

I use BOX to sync 1 copy of my backups (I have 3 histories) rather than using my dropbox because I have a 50gb box account.
If you think about it, having TB store on the Internal card doesn't do you much good if the unit dies. At least by syncing it to the external card you can take it out of the phone, but if you lose the phone altogether, you lose all your backups if you don't make a habit of copying them to another source which if you do manually won't work because you will forget to do it.
I made the mistake of flashing the RUU and expecting titanium backup to restore all my old apps. When I loaded it I was pissed! I think this thread will help some people restore their apps.
Yeah I saw that comment as well. It always takes me longer to setup my phone up because of things like this. One of the first things I do after flashing!
I didn't realize people didn't know about that function.
sorry for the noob question, tried to search, couldn't find anything related.
i've been trying out the different roms to see which one i like. Is there any tips, process or app to use to speed up setting phone, like configuring your emails, contacts, etc...
thanks
Backup your user apps with titanium backup, then do a batch restore user apps. I use gosms to backup my messages.
Also if you use nova or apex launcher then do a backup with those apps.
All of my contacts are merged with Google so when i sync my gmail account all my contacts are already on my phone.
Hope this helps, happy flashing!

the only things that can be setup to speed up the configuring process is in the sms/call log/apps backup restores. You don't want data restoring going from rom to rom, and I've yet to find an app that will restore widgets to the pages that you had them previously.
sms backup and restore= sms/mms backup
call log backup and restore= call log list
my backup or titanium backup= apps backup
I know it's not much but to maintain the way your homescreens are setup from rom to rom would require you maintain your data intact and that will give you nothing but issues/bugs, because data from a rom won't behave correctly in the next, this is why all roms suggest a full wipe before a flash.

Looks like its spinning cause it's searching thru the emulator (SDCARD0) should be searching thru SDCARD. See if you can get to settings and click on preferences, then second set is the backup folder location. Click it, set search whole device, tthen when it's done select use current device. Hopefully this help.

Yea, I had to "create" a new folder inside SDCard not Emulated like you said......recreated root access and worked .....thanx for the insight
Hi I hope I won't get mauled for this and I hope I am in the right part of the forum and am not breaking any rules. If this is any consolation, this was not my doing. I have been tasked with resolving this issue for a friend (my boss).
Basically my question is exactly the same as the title of this thread. This guy flashed his Galaxy S3 with a custom ROM and soon afterwards it stopped working/displays a 'no network' signal message so that making calls is now impossible.
Everything else appears to work fine.
I have no idea what ROM he used, but the Android version is 4.1.2.
I tried following this advice on this YouTube thread that pointed to a thread that was on here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AlQmfMJBK0&list=PLFDC5QJK9AUG_cSMhuiWQo-mSst1_y-DM&index=1
However I got a bit stuck at the point where it instructs users to 'put the phone in the correct mode" by using the dialler and punching in the numbers: *#7284#
Here he says select Qalcom USB settings and RMNet + DM + Modem.
However after having done this, the first two of these options are not available. Instead I have two sections called "UART" and "USB". Under each of these sections I have two options only that can be selected, which are "modem" and "pda", as in this image here:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So at this point it seems I can't proceed.
I did notice from the video that the page he is referring to in the video also suggests another method. However the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804123 appears to have been deleted, so I can't tell if these other instructions would have proved helpful.
I have checked that the phone is legitimate and that the original IMEI number matches that both behind the battery and on the supplied box, so all that's really required is to find a method for restoring the original IMEI that would work in this case? I Have searched the forum and have found varying views on how to approach this, but I am limited in time (it needs to be done by tomorrow) and I am seeking a definitive answer.
Can anyone help, or can you please point me to the appropriate thread showing clearly what to do? I was sure the method in the YouTube video would work, which is why I agreed to help. But I'm in big trouble if I can't fix it.
Edit:
I tried following this thread here: .http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772741&page=2
I backed up my EFS folder just like it said, but it asks me to copy my .nvdata file to my newly created EFS folder (after a reboot), I can find no .nvdata file in the backed up EFS folder.
This is to say the least somewhat alarming.
There is a file called nv_data.bin, but I am by no means certain that this is what the poster is referring to?
Go read the sticky thread over in general forum, efs 'know this stuff'.
If you don't have a backup to restore then you need a repair centre.
hello,
i've done a nandroid backup of my phone, copied it to my pc and did a factory reset and installed a new rom.
went all fine ..
the backup was like 4gb big, but now its like 23gb big and i dont know how the hell that happened ?!?

damn it seems i've lost my backup.
i even did a adb backup .. which is only 1gb. didnt know it wasnt a full backup allthough it was stated in that guide.
(i can't remember if i've used the full command line (adb backup -f FullBackup.ab -apk -all) or not. i hope i've copied/pasted it completly)
the data files of that twrp backup is still intact, the system files aren't. seems ive lost all that.
great.. and i dont know how it happened .. just copied it to my pc .. great
update1: i do have alot of important files like contacts, sms/mms, whatsapp, and all that. how do i migrate it from the old twrp backup "data" file to my phone?

Is where it all went wrong, if it's that important then verify the md5 after copying.
Try titanium backup, which can extract data from nandroid -don't know about corrupt files though.
i've managed to restore some stuff from the .ab file ..
i can't get whatsapp to run again. it won't load the old db/pref files.
besides that, copying the db files f rom mms/sms and contacts crashes the phone.
anyone knows why?
ok, i've managed to get my contacts and mms and stuff back..
i can't get whatsapp running again. probably due to a different android_id ?? ..
i've got my old id back, the one i had for ages. but i dont know if whatsapp also registers the imei and mac stuff
to/with a phone.
my problem is that the cellphone number is gone. whatsapp did still work cuz it was registered to the phone.
i can't register it anymore to the old number. does anyone know a workaround or something, or does anyone
know what whatsapp is binded to?
