Will we ever see a stable AOSP build? - HTC Rezound

I've been watching development progress on this since I bought this phone back in March. I'm running one of the latest CM9 builds and while it runs very well, there are still a number of issues with it in terms of stability and functionality. As we know, development on CM9 has mostly come to a standstill.
I've been excited keeping up with the CM10 progress and how it seems to be coming to a usable and relatively stable state, however now I'm reading everybody is working on getting CM10.1 booting instead of continuing to fix the issues with CM10.
Now I don't want to seem unappreciative of the work our developers do on their free time, but what's the point of all of this effort if it doesn't result in a good, usable product?

What exactly makes cm9 unusable? As far as I know blue tooth (Edit) and MHL are the only things that have yet to be perfected. I've run a couple cm9 builds that really blow jb on my friend's phones away.

With everything 100% working? No you won't. Blame it on HTC, not us.
And cm9 runs fine. 10 runs great but has a purple camera and the FFC isn't likely to get fixed easily, if ever. We don't have the jb blobs for it. And the ICS blobs only support pmem.
Can always go back to pmem for everything but it runs terribly then.
The point is I like to tinker and problem solve. Brain exercise so to speak. I don't release ROMs for this reason. I have zero desire to provide support for them. I personally just like to see what I'm able to do and build skills.

CM9 is extremely stable. I have used it as a daily driver for a long time now.
I have had CM9 on here longer than any other ROM even stock.

We need someone like Linus Torvalds around here.

Understood. I really didn't mean to be seem to be assigning blame -- I'm extremely appreciative of and wholly admire the work you and others have put into this device. I was asking as a genuine question as it was unclear to me what kind of direction is being aimed for and what the goals are.
Keep doing your thing, and I appreciate the input. :good:
And I'm far from an expert on these things (my background is in system administration and networking, not programming), but on the camera issue, doesn't the Rezound use the same camera module as the Droid Incredible? I know there are working CM10 builds with everything on the camera working but video. Perhaps this could be of use?

It's a laptop that I bought in August 2005. The Vertical lines/stripes of death, a whole 3 inch column of my screen is just black now. It's just dying a slow and horrible death. I might be getting another one this month or sometime soon!
i am trying to get cm7 running on mine with some minor success so far... but its my first attempt and so far very little works...
We really need to start asking questions in the proper section. The development section is for ROM's, MOD's and other development resources.
As for your answer, there are a few working on aosp builds. It just takes time.

Yeah, if CM7 could be easily ported to the Rezound, I'd definitely take that for now.
It bugs me how opening the dial pad blocks the speakerphone toggle on the call screen. It also does this on the iPhone. AOSP Android just covers the picture with the dialpad when needed.
At least on the Rezound it's easy to quickly hide the dialpad again. iPhone 4S toggling is kind of slow. At least on my friend's.
If I knew anything about porting roms I would try. I even have a dual xeon workstation to use for it.

It really shouldnt take them very long. google did a great job with jellybean. making it extremely compatible with all kinds of hardware. for ics we had to pull ~50 commits to frameworks from qcom to get display working. on jellybean...zero. it just works. no hacks required. google really outdid themselves this time. (also cudos to caf for releasing the display drivers same day!!) just took me 3 days to realize that yea they do work lol.
So in theory it shouldnt be too hard to get jellybean up and running on devices that have aosp 4.0. Correct?

Could be because I think that sense 3.6 is garbage and 40 is way better lighter and more responsive or at lest by me using it it seemed like that. But if they do decide to do that I thing they should bring sense 4.0 to all capable devices

Well we won't get RIL on there until we get RIL on CM9.
But if Joel fixes everything except RIL by the time either chad or newt get RIL on ICS, porting the fix to JB should be relatively easy.

I think the issue is the LTE though, the eris was only a 3G device and i think it was said that the way HTC hacked on LTE to the Rez makes it a lot more difficult.
I'm sure eventually it'll get figured out. I also thought someone said erishasnobattery was getting a rezound? or has one?

Porting vs building from source have advantages and disadvantages. If I understand correctly when your porting, everything is pretty much done and modifications to code need to be implemented to work correctly with our phone. Building from source takes longer cause you have to add your own source code to get it to work properly. I know it's not that cut and dry, but I believe that's pretty much the gist of it.

Jelly Bean??!

This is not a rant or a complaint thread by any means, just curious. What's the deal with Jelly Bean? Months ago it was stated that JB would be an easy jump from ICS once we got kernel source. Is this not the case? Is nobody working on it? Any insight would be appreciated.
Once again, not a rant thread just trying to sift for information.

Ditto. Take a look at https://github.com/intervigilium for the pieces of Intervigilium's Sensation port and do git diff on files between branches to see what he changed. The only thing you'll need to do extra is to update the RIL for the new android_frameworks_base.
I'm almost inclined to do the Jellybean conversion myself, but at the moment I'm just too lazy.

Are you sitting on a bunch of build fixes?
Because after messing with it, it looks to me that we need the updated msm framebuffer headers to get the latest libhwcomposer and friends to compile. The modified ABI means the kernel needs the updated driver to actually work, and that entails a lot of other intra-kernel dependencies, too.

[Q] android 4.3 cm 10.2????

Most likely not but I can't speak for the devs either
I hope so. We're working on it
We have an amazing set of devs and I wouldn't be surprised but we should realize we're approaching the 2 year anniversary of the Rezounds release and it does seem like the level of Dev activity is slowing

you heard the man, time to move on.
I'm just kinda sad that all sense developments died and all attention went to AOSP, AOKP, & PA
If I was better at this stuff I would chip in but don't really have time
May just one day soon though soon

Sense development is still taking place, it's been pushed about as far as it can go for now though.

This is true but there is always room for improvement
Not saying I don't love the work that is already done or in the workings
I am very grateful for having the devs that we have

I think aosp is just easier to work on and also more people likes it over sense. Due to sense being battery hog. With that said each one has its pluses like sense camera is better. Like was said they have done about all they can do. 4.0 and so on still has issues as its harder to make a port to a device that has never officially got it. Why the bolt had so many issues trying to run sense 4.0.

ehh I favor Sense anyday. My daily actually... Get 12 hours battery life on sense rom. 6-8 on AOSP.
Rumor has 4.3 android has great battery life. If we can ever get it stable. Would be awesome..

Did you ever get play services to update? I saw that was a problem people were having towards the end.
