[Q] HTC One X+ Overheating and Affecting Battery - HTC One X+

Hi All
I have had my HTC One X+ for roughly 3 weeks now and just recently I noticed the phone reaching a very hot temperature, I have not measured exactly but it is significantly hotter than I have ever noticed since owning the handset. I don't use it that heavily i.e. for games etc and only charge it when the battery is less than 20%, I have not needed to have the power saving setting turned on because the battery life suited me without the settings. However when I noticed the overheating it seems the battery is draining much quicker, A full charge went down to 8% within roughly 4 - 5 hours without any heavy use.
Can anyone assist me on this
Thanks

Did you update?, i just played a game with the charger plugged in with full battery, after 10 mins of game play my battery was at 95% and that with the charger plugged in, my battery life wasnt as good as yours before the update but it was def alot better than it is now, theres quite a few more bugs since 1.16.401 and up, touch screen is dodgy as hell, that could be one reason for the battery drain, im seriouslt thinking of selling it and getting out my onex.

No I havent done any software updates, currently have the latest version available which 1.14.161.18. The problem only started yesterday out of nowhere, I can't understand what is causing it!! My usage has not changed at all :S

I was having the same issues the second I turned my HOX+ on. I have fixed it by not using LTE all the time. I found that when LTE was on, it over-heated my phone and killed my battery life especially when restoring my gmail on initial setup with settings and apps coming down from the cloud.

So how about the battery in the Lumia 920.
After the Lumia 800 failed in this area it would be great to know if the 2000mA battery is big enough for this whole Thing

I've been using it for half a week now and battery is phenomenal even in LTE all the time. Will last you a full day off not a day and a half with moderate use. Full day heavy use probably.
You have nothing to worry about this time. Nokia got it right.
More details here: http://forums.wpcentral.com/showthread.php?t=200158
Mine sucks right now. I'm just using it for normal email updates and a few downloads from the app store and it'll be on 40% by 4-5pm. I've turned off a lot of the background updates on the live tiles too, but it's not making a difference.
Screen on time is disappointing.
Mine has excellent battery life. 2 days on a row on my last charge.
Ppl with battery life problems, I would suggest to visit the Nokia support forum.
Important
If you disable NFC (tap+send in settings) you have a HUGE improvement in battery life.
As mentioned above, disabling NFC and background apps will greatly improve battery life. I am more than satisfied.
I leave my data connection on 2G most of the day and it seems make the phone last all day, with heavy use. If I really need the faster connection I switch it to 3G. This seems to work for me
Full day, 3G use (using on a 3G only carrier, no LTE unfortunately). Moderate-to-heavy usage, not a problem getting back home, chilling on the sofa, doing what not, and having enough battery to last until bed time. FYI my day starts around 8-9 and I head to bed around 11ish+.
I hear battery life isn't as good when NFC is on. Don't know though, I never have NFC on anyways (really don't see how useful it is atm).
Battery saving Tips
This battery saving tip has been overlooked since WP7 first generation devices. The reason why some ppl will be having huge battery drain is due to apps running in the background. So, you need to think about the apps that you actually need to run in the background. Make sure all your email accounts are on the highest interval time to be checked and/or "as the item arrives". When you select as the item arrives I believe true push is being used which if you don't receive tons of emails will save battery in the end. The other apps settings are located here start screen>settings>swipe over to applications>background tasks>and block all apps that you can that don't need to be running background tasks. I for instance only have accuWeather app running background tasks. Another thing is you need to be aware of apps power usage...i noticed that accuWeather is far better at using less power consumption than the Weather channel app. Other tips are common knowledge. Disable NFC, use WIFI when available, turn off high sensitivity if you're not needing it, use low time-out for shutting off display and use low brightness. Be efficient!!
Good
Lasts me about 1hr for each 10% increment. About the same i was getting with the S3. While playing music its battery life seems to last longer than leaving it on standby :S Find standby kills battery some reason, just recently turned of nokia drive background app, hopefully that makes it last longer
Battery life has been excellent for me. Mine was fully charged on Wednesday morning @ 8 AM and was at 48% when I put it on the charger Thursday @ 2 PM with moderate uses. Unexpectedly, the battery life is much better while on the LTE network than when I'm using my SIM card not registered for LTE usage. Standby drain is very very good.

That's because WiFi stays connected when you're streaming music, whereas WiFi disconnects when on standby. Known windows issue that should be addressed by ms soon.

I get great battery life unless I enter into an LTE area. When I do, my phone gets VERY hot and the battery runs down in a few hours. Even if I'm not doing ANYTHING with the phone. Strange...

How do you switch the 920 to 2g mode? I only have 3g and 4g in the options on max speed? my old lg wp let me set either 2g or 3g, huge difference in battery life on that devic.
to be honest tho so far i'm impressed easily outlasts my old phone, just tried turning off the high sensitivity on the touch to see if it makes a difference.
also run down the phone till it turned itself off last night, tried turning it on got the warning icon of low battery, did it again then it started, data connectino wouldn't work battery said 0% remaining and it lasted just under half hour with me playing mirrors edge, makes me wonder how accurate the battery % is
Battery capacity seems to have been cut in half!
When I first got the 920, at 100% the estimated battery life would say 1 day and X hours. Now (2 weeks later) when my battery is at 100%, it now says 13-14 hours of estimated life. My battery also drains much faster now than it did in the first week of owning the 920. My use of the phone has not changed over the last two weeks. I'm always in an LTE area, WiFi on and I use bluetooth from time to time. Is this an issue that other people are experiencing?
I'm trying to figure out if I need to exchange my 920. Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
i found it was using 2% battery every hour whilst connected to a data connection - but not syncing anything, all backround tasks turned off. This seems a bit mental.
So it seems that battery isn't so good :/ Too bad because i was wondering to buy this phone.

After deep cycling the battery, I am back to the correct reading. I am now losing a little less than 1% of battery life per hour on standby!

Crazy Battery Life on 920

The first week I had my 920 I was lucky if the battery was at or above 40% by 12 noon. The 920 is my 2nd phone line and I am using it mostly to learn WP8, to surf the web some and listen to a lot of podcasts, usually 6+ hours of them a day. The past 4 days the battery in the 920 is showing insane runtimes. It is currently 11:30pm and it has been off the charger since 8:00am, over 15 hours with overs 8 hours of audio podcast listening. The battery is currently reading 61%. I originally got the impression that LTE was killing the battery, but that is no longer the case.
I have a Share Plan with AT&T with 2 phones, a Galaxy Nexus (GSM model from Play Store) and a Lumia 920. I use my Nexus as my main phone line, to access GMail and Google Reader (a lot of Google Reader feeds). The Nexus has been off the charger the same period of time and is showing 41%.
For me wifi destroys my battery for some reason I get 15 hours with wi-fi on or 28 with it off
Interesting, mine will usually run for 24-30 hours before hitting 15%, including regular usage. 4G gives it a whack but generally I find similar to other phones, if low coverage it chews the battery
Reading all the doom and gloom of 4G LTE on various mobile phones, after my 1st weeks experience, I was expecting similar results going forward. But, after 2 weeks of use, the battery falls in line with the results you mention. And, with that I am not complaining.
same situation here.
It looks like the phone needs some days to warm up and get long lasting.
Also I see that wp8 is heavly optimized for background task in order to not consume a lot of battery eg: my phone lasts more than 2 days with light usage.
I listen to podcast for many hours and it doesnt affect the battery that much, in fact I'm surprised by it because I know audio playing takes a load on the cpu.
Mine.. overnight without charge or using the phone it drained from 100% down to 35%. BS
Two words: Background tasks.
Make sure you don't have unnecessary background tasks running. I have less than 5 and my battery runs more than 2 days easily.
How do you kill or monitor background tasks?
I had really good battery time of 19 hours the first day of installing the new firmware, then I enabled bluetooth again and it drains like crazy. its hit or miss but people seem to think that whatsapp drains battery. I personally would like to disable LTE (its really slow in my area) and just keep bluetooth that seems to give me 12+ hrs of battery.

You can block background tasks for 3rd party apps in Settings->Applications tab->Background tasks. There is no way to monitor these tasks because WP OS doesn't offer any such capability.
Unfortunately there is no easy way to block 1st party apps and if they are misbehaving (like sync something over and over), there is nothing you can do about it.
Turn on Battery Saver can also effectively kill all background tasks. But that's draconian. I still would like my smartphone do something in the background for me.
Don't forget, the biggest battery drain factor could be your cell phone signal. If you keep the phone in a fringe area, the cell radio will drain your battery very quickly while try to maintain communications with cell towers. This is outside the OS and you can't do anything about it.
I had a weird battery drain the day after the last upgrade. No apps running in the background BAR the movie that i had paused.. I lost 80% without using the phone in a 6 hour period (post charging). After a reboot it seems ok. Perhaps i should pause another movie to see if it happens again....
I must say that I have mine 2 days and the battery drains too fast... I dont know what to do .. Maybe because its new ? Some one can help me maybe ?

My battery is pretty inconsistent. MOST of the time it's awesome, and will last like 20-25 hours without needing to charge, but that just makes it especially jarring when every now and then I go to check my phone at 4 in the afternoon and it's at critical, and I have no idea what causes it.
Plus when it does die I have to put it on the charger for like 2 hours before it will let me turn it on.
I found interesting point in the battery life today, if the screen is off, the battery drain is in the range of 3-4% which is good, however, if the screen goes on the battery drops like 15% in just 25 minutes. After thinking I tried to set the screen sensitivity to normal and it solved my problem. I kept the screen on for more than 45 minutes and the battery went down almost 6% only which is good. I still have to test more to give a concrete evidence.

I usually run a battery discharge app Saturday night. Then a full recharge with the phone off. That usually gives me dependable battery life of about 12 hours a day for the entire week. If I forget and not run the discharger I notice it midways into the week when I only get about 8 hours out of it.
AT&T lumia920:
after updating my phone to the 1314 update, my battery life got worse.
I went from 14 hours per day to only 8 hours.
thanks nokia -_-
note: I was not experiencing any connectivity issues on my phone.
let's see how many people here actually have NFC on and Auto-Brightness on... lol
I used the sleep app last night after charging to 100%, and then I fell asleep with it on.
I woke up to find the sounds still going, and when I checked my phone worried that I killed the charge, I found it still had 92% left. That's impressive.

[Q] HTC one battery

Can anyone with an HTC one tell me about how the battery life is on yours and what helps make it go longer? Because I would call the battery on mine awful.
I would recommend that you install an application from the Play Store called "BetterBatteryStats". This will enable you to closely check what application uses the most battery, how long your phone is in deep sleep for and much more.
Charge the phone fully and after about a day, or until it almost dies, export a text file using the share button and upload it onto here and we can have a look at what is using your battery.
Just out of curiosity, how long does your battery usually last? Mine lasts 2 days on light usage and 1 day on heavy usage.
It's awesome. I'm running arhd with greenify hibernating all my apps. I get like a day and a half of battery time.

Nothing. I run a lean system. I close all apps and I'm using the stock messaging app with the stock keyboard. I've concluded it's just that this phone is a piece of ship board.

My guys are getting upwards of 30+ hrs and 3hrs screentime with 4.2.2....usage may vary....
You could put your phone in power saver mode. I haven't bothered with it much, but those who have say that it doesn't impact performance in any noticeable way. I tend to have 1-3 hours of screen on time, depending on the day. I've never had any issue getting that with this phone, at least not yet.
As someone else mentioned, it does get quite warm to the touch, however. Never to the point where it's uncomfortable to hold, but enough so that it bothers me. I think it's just because in the back of my mind I know that, in general, electronics getting hot = bad. Yesterday my One got warm in the car while I was using GPS to navigate with it and the sun was just pounding the interior of my car. So I held my One up to the vent and blasted it with the air conditioner from time to time (i.e. not while driving, so spare me the lecture). Seemed to cool it off pretty well

I have been using the RayGlobe Rom 6.0 and the battery is more than adequate for me and runs cold. Lots of mods and themes also. Might give it a try.

With stock sense, my battery was pretty bad, to the point where I was pretty worried about having to get a different phone as it wouldn't last a day. But I put CM 10.1 on here last night, and it has been pretty amazing today.
I actually just picked my One up this last week and have been running battery tests with moderate use throughout the day and it can easily last 20+ hours (I didn't have time to let it go for a full 24). Maybe i'll do some heavy use tests and see how it goes.
I too am having battery issues... One day the battery last forever, the next day it drains quickly. I recently installed cpuz to see the max speed of the cpu when power saver mode was on. The max speed I observed was 1134 ghz, however I again checked the cpu speed after I rebooted my phone (with power saver still enabled) and cpuz now was indicating the cpu was running at full speed 1728 ghz. I turned off power saver and then re enable power saver mode and then cpuz showed the cpu to be throttled again at 1134 ghz. It appears (at least on my phone) that power saver mode does not automatically start after a reboot even though the powersaving mode was left on prior to reboot and the the phone shows the power saving symbol as active after reboot. Would someone test this scenario on there phone to verify the problem exist on other phones?
I converted the AT&T HTC One to full Google Edition and my battery life is solid. After 10 hours of usuage (BT on & connected, Wifi on & connected, Exchange email on push, 2h of screen on time, 2h talk time ...) I get to about 20-30% left of battery.
Good enough for what I need compared to my retired GS2

why is the battery life so poor?

I got an LG G5 2 weeks ago and the battery has been outrageously bad. I bought it used and the owned has owned it for 2 to 3 months. There is very little standby drain and the phone is cold to the touch within minutes. Overnight drain is around 10 to 12 percent with always on display which is normal considering the 1 percent per hour loss plus the normal overnight drain. However when I turn the screen on the screen on time is very poor only about 2.5 hrs to 3 hours. The screen brightness is set 20 to 40 percent no auto brightness. There appears to be nothing draining the battery with the screen being the biggest battery draining. I have location nfc Bluetooth and LTE turned off. Along with touch sounds and touch vibration but toggling these settings makes no difference. Its impossible to find out more because I have no root. If this battery continues to be this poor I'm going to be selling it because I cannot stand having to charge twice a day even with quickcharge 3.0 old xiaomi redmi note 3 lasted 2 to 3 times longer on the battery. Any ideas what could be eating my battery?
Hi
I get 4 to 5 hours screen on time and I use my brightness at 75% to 100%, never as low as 20-40% it's too dark.
What apps do you use when you do have the screen on? Maps and games will drop you to 2-3 hours screen on time like all phones, but normal apps (excluding snapchat) will give you 4-5 SOT.
I would turn off always on display, you won't miss it.
Eeeeh , your Android system and android Os are high , screen should consumpt most of the battery about 30-40% mine does 34% with 35% brightness and Phone idle 22% my android system at 9% android Os 6% , if you dont game you get nearly 1 day life from your battery but if you do you need 2-3 timers charging per day , also if you use Data it just sucks the battery like vacum. So there is a drain in your system but its true lg g5 consumps a lot in order to give you performance in priority and not power saving. Dont forget G5s are the only high range phone that you can swip your battery with no deal , they are giving you that feature , Use it!!! You can grab up to 3600mah (2800 stock) extended capacity battery with a wall charger from ebay really cheap and never again have a battery problem. Also this batterys are lithium ones , i saw in your pic 10% i suggest not to go below 20% you are killing really fast lithium batterys if you decharge them!!!

Always on display barely drains any battery. I use apps such as facebook, text messaging, messenger, instagram, chrome, etc. I rarely play games because the second I open a game the battery life is only about 1.5 hours sot.
Well Facebook and messenger should be a couple of alarm bells when talking about battery life surely? Also, you bought it second hand, you have no idea how the previous owner treated the battery in the time they had it no matter how short a period it was.

Thanks for your advise my friend, factory resetting the device was the first thing i did, but i did not solve the issue.
i have tried the following:
-Flash other ROMs from different countries for H860
-booted the device into safe mode and tried to enable the WiFi and etc.
my WiFi MAC is set to 02:00:00:00:00:00 and it means that WiFi has not been detected by android. Also the Bluetooth address is defined as "unavailable".
and the worst of all is its battery drain issue which kill my battery within 5 hours in standby mode, while i can not notice any abnormal battery consumption in "BATTERY USE DETAILS" section in Battery usage setting. this probably means that some other consumer(perhaps the WiFi) uses the battery without being listed.

I've got a brand new LG G5 which I have been using since Thursday and I honestly can say it sucks big time compared to my 2 year old Z3 which can easily get me 4 hrs SoD on mixed usage. Using the exact same set up of apps, location and wifi/mobile use, I am struggling to see more than 2.5hrs SoD with the G5. Honestly, it just drains battery like no tomorrow and this is fresh battery... I dread to think what it will be like in 2 years. Sony made a lot of mistakes but the Z3 really excelled...

Another LG G5 battery drain thread

Hey guys, I've been scouring the forums to see if there could be a solution for the horrendous battery life for the g5. Over time, it's been getting worse and worse, so I figured my battery was bad. I bought a brand new LG original, and did 3 factory resets, but it has no change. I have to charge the phone 3 to 4 times a day, and I literally see my percentage drop at an exponential rate. I don't game on my phone. I noticed a lot of threads talking about standby drain, but I haven't had too many issues with that lately. I keep my screen on at around 20 to 40% brightness, and my wifi, Bluetooth and GPS are turned off when not in use. I am totally stumped. Any tips? Thanks!

Hmm, needing to charge that many times is over the top and means you have some really bad wakelock or rogue app in play.
To be honest, I wouldn't expect any more than 3hrs of SoT over a 12 hour period; this phone has crap battery life no matter how you use it.
It's much better on marshmallow than nougat. On marshmallow the phone drains slower on standby (1.6 percent an hour vs 3 percent) so more battery is left when you need to use it. It's not a big battery so 3.5 to 4.5 hours screen on is about right over 12 hours off the charger. But you can charge up a spare if you're going to be usung the phone a lot.
Try to freeze (disable) apps that may do things in the background.
I found that battery life significantly increased (and is now much less poor) after disabling many of the GAPPs related apps.
My G5 H850 gets up to 90-110hrs at normal use (bluetooth turned on 24/7). Before it was only 40hrs. The thing that helped the most was turning off searching for bluetooth and wifi devices even when adapters are turned off. And over night put the phone screen facing bottom so standby screen turns off.
Hope it helps
