Media Link HD Owners - HTC Droid DNA

Anyone here own a media link HD?
Wanted to make a Q&A thread for those of us with the DNA and the ML HD.
Feel free to post up experience, questions, etc...
*UPDATE* We're talking about the HTC MediaLink HD as seen below
http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=4GzTY2O8Ro4
Here's what I wish to see in future revisions.
-Can I please get the option to be in portrait or landscape mode? That should be a user choice.
-Why can't I multitask in the youtube app?
-The ability to turn off the screen and the video continue to play on the tv. (thus saving phone battery)
-As always, less lag. It's fast, yes. However, it's 2013 HTC... I shouldn't have to wait 4 seconds for the beginning of the video to buffer when I'm streaming p2p.

Wish it wasn't so expensive.

Depends on where you look.

That's just the MHL cable. I'm pretty sure he's talking about the actual Media Link box that Verizon sells.

Gotcha, yeah that's gonna cost a few bucks. Actually, for what it is, not that bad of a price.

Yea I don't mind. I get 35% discount off this price only though http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...d=13685&accessoryId=53268&initialPhoneId=6103
but then you have to include the slight sales tax too.
I do get free shipping on it though. (Then again regular customers might also, not sure?)
You may find cheaper on Ebay and/or craigslist however.

Nevermind!

Hi guys,
I got my MediaLink this christmas and it's really worth the price ! I would recommend it to any HTC user who use his phone as a media storage.
The Q&A topic is a good idea, here is my first question, does the media link works with JB roms ?

[Q] Thunderbolt TV out?

Im wondering if the tbolt can do TV via the head phone jack like some of the galaxy s phones..... id like to have it display google maps on my car monitor.....
or even this would work! http://htcpedia.com/news/htc-droid-incredible-tv-out-cable-review.html

Though it's not the same as an HDMI-out, the Thunderbolt will be able to provide HDMI-out through an adapter.

I'm liking the first three accessories; Accessories Supported: HDMI Adapter, Wireless Charging , Extended Battery (3.7VDC, 2750mAh)
The accessories listed above with a 1 year contract is tipping me over to the TB side. My two concerns for the TB is the battery life and cellular reception. I have only owned 2 HTC phones; one was the Tilt on the AT&T network (the reception was sub-par) and the second is the Droid Eris (it does have good reception with the new radio).
The Devs have made the Eris into a good viable smartphone for the masses but the screen size is still not to my liking. I want and need more screen size and resolution to make it work well for me.
I have been thinking of waiting for the Bionic to come out and look at the comparison reviews before making the decision. With the 4G tiered plans looming over our heads, I don't know if it's a good idea to wait. Lastly, how is the earthquake and tsunami in Japan going to affect the availability of new phones?
Decisions... decisions... Both of my lines are up for renewal.....

It is still the 32gb card. I called verizon today because I am on the fence between this and the merge (assuming it has an LTE radio and how long it will take to come out?) I'm sick of the D2 and I miss HTC phones, so i'm going to be paying the full lick. I wanted to find out about data pricing and she said it would be the same, with no premium. And "unlimited". I'm kind of afraid to wait because of the tiered pricing coming up and I really don't want to lose unlimited data.
oh, and there's this.

I was in your boat with wanting to wait for the LG or Moto device but after hearing from my buddy on the inside, I ordered the thunderbolt so I could jump on unlimited LTE, Verizon will grandfather your unlimited plan and you'll never have to worry about going over and having to pay more, to me, that was worth it alone, I'll wait 20 months to get a new device for unlimited LTE, even if it's not in your area, more then likely, it will be over the next year or so, but from what I've heard from my buddy, unlimited data is going to be ending in the next weeks, not summer time like some of the tech hubs have been saying, I'm using the ext battery and waiting for a case that'll fit, love the device, will root once custom recoveries are available! Good luck with your choice
Oh and Radio is great in this device, personally I think it's stronger then my incredible not by much but usually where I have one bar I have two and so forth plus lte is a dream, no issues with using hotspots for my Xbox to get on some COD, bandwidth report under options in cod shows 10000kbs, better then my ll DSL at only 515 kbs.

There is no HDMI port on the phone, period. There is a new standard interface for USB->HDMI dual port (called HML), but I know the Thunderbolt doesn't have it. I looked at the port with my own eyes.
I think you and that PDF file are referring to the DLNA->HDMI adapter from HTC:
mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=10802
It will work good for us folks that don't have DLNA tvs, but don't assume you will be able to do Atrix style webtop, mirror display things. DLNA is for streaming video and music, not re-compressing what is on your Android/Thunderbolt screen and sending it via DLNA. Think about the lag on that and overhead to do it. Lack of HDMI, like the Atrix was one of my biggest hangups with the Thunderbolt. I think it was a huge mistake to think DLNA is the future. Webtop, HDMI, MHL, and/or WHDI are! Booooo HTC. But everything else so far is awesome with the Thunderbolt! So cheers HTC!

I want an extended battery but don't want just a mere 2750(especially for the price they are asking). I had a 4500 on my thunderbolt and would like something around there or better.

I don't want a different battery, I would just like to see slightly better life from this one. That being said, I haven't seen anything besides the 2750 either.

ok so half off till the end of the month. cool.
oh and as far as.accessories on display, my local verizon only has iphone accessories out. everything else in the back.
I can also confirm that Verizon corporate stores should have this deal through December. When I went yesterday, one guy looked it up and said that the deal was no longer valid. As I was about to leave another employee suggested that the first "just scan it and see what happens". I got the deal. Apparently their system erroneously reports the deal as invalid, but it is valid...until Dec. 31st. So make sure you ask them to scan it!

Now this is an absolute feeler as I'm not 100% set on letting my baby go. I recently acquired an iPhone 4S and I been using it as my daily lately and with getting an HTC Rezound from a trade (hopefully next week) I got no use for 3 top tier Verizon phones. So I'm just looking to see what I can get for this (I'll do the same when I get the Rezound and I'll let go whichever I get the best deal for). The phone is in 9/10 condition. It has a minor paint chip by the headphone jack and it has a minor scratch on the very bottom of the screen. It took me minutes to try to get a pic of it. Maybe some of y'all can see it but it's not very noticeable. I have included a generic ballistic case, a generic S case from amazon, an SGP Neo Hybrid Satin, an Incipio case which was my daily case, and a cool red and black Fishbone case which replace the Incipio as my daily case. I have seven (yes SEVEN) batteries included. Two are the OEM 2100mAh extended battery, an OEM standard battery, two Hyperion slim batteries that worked well. One generic Samsung standard battery. And a QCell 3850mAH extended battery with battery cover. I have two OEM extended battery covers and one OEM slim battery cover. I have the box that came with it. I don't have the headphones nor the charger/USB cord (had so many batteries I never was hooked to a charger). And I'll also include two spare battery chargers to charge the spare batteries. Now I'm not 100% set on this so it will take a good deal for me to get rid of this. Well throw offers down and I'll consider them thanks guys and the few gals out there

I'm definitely going to need the 64gb. I have around 40 gbs of music that I want kept locally on the device. I've used Google Music and think it's great, but I don't have the data to use it like I would like to. The 64gb is a must and I'm a bit weary about purchasing it online due to the defects some are reporting. Does anyone know if these defects are as abundant in the AT&T version of the phone as they are in the international? I looked at one at the AT&T store and it seemed to be perfect.

I don't think there are any abundant defects in any version. I have a 64GB from ATT and it's perfect, except for the soft buttons not lighting up most of the time but I think they all do that to some degree.
Don't forget the OTG as well. It works great right out of the box. I just moved about 20GB of movie files off the phone onto a flashdrive and it was so quick I was shocked. I wish I'd paid attention to how long it was, seemed like just a few minutes.

I'm fine with the soft keys not lighting up. In fact, I'd rather them be off all the time and I'll make them that way if possible. I just don't see how or why it's necessary and, in the dark, it's excessively annoying.

Goodbye guys.

Well, my device warranty was almost over so I damaged it to bring it in to get a new one because hey, I paid 50$ for the warranty, I'm going to use it. The device was a trooper and it took a lot of effort to actually just crack the plastic lining surrounding the screen and peel it off to look like it broke. I took it into best buy and found out they didn't sell them anymore and I was heartbroken. They comped me 210$ in credit. I ended up getting the GS3 for 50$ with a Verizon upgrade.
The player was my first Android device and it is what got me to love android. Ever since, I will never go back to apple. You guys made the experience twice as amazing because of all your hard work in getting ICS and JB working on the device. You were all so helpful whenever there were problems with the devices and it's what got me into learning how to develop (even though I'm still really new to it) and I love it. I'm even in the process of making my first AOSP based ROM for the GS3!
I am still going to be hanging around in these forums and helping if I can. I really wish all of you the best of luck with the development of the device and your lives.

You can find decent prices on ebay for used ones. I picked up a 3.6 and a 4.0 for $120 total.

Wow that's a good deal. I managed to get a refurbished sgp 4.2 for 170 on amazon. Was like 200 new lol. Not a very good deal. But it works really great. Only issue I have is that sometimes when I slide down the notification bar the brightness goes all the way up lol

One of them would only boot to the samsung logo. Quick reinstall of the kernel, recovery, and rom, and good as new. Sometimes people dont know what they have. And ther is always the chance that it would be hard bricked or just dead. I have had pretty good luck though.

Actually that is because you are pressing and holding the top right side of the screen. If you press and hold the top left hand side, the brightness will go all he way down.

All android devices (well atleast the two samsung ones i have used) do that. what it is is when you press and hold the top of the screen, it will change the brightness. it has gotten me out of a jam a few times.
