I was trying to replicate someone's issue in getting Google Wallet to work and forgot to clear data before flashing the new ROM and got an error about Secure Element. I've read of ways to fix this type because I'm not sure it this is the dreaded brick or not.
This guy uses build.prop changes to get his working by changing it to a new device from a Galaxy Nexus but I'm just trying to figure out how that would work for us because we have to use a modified Wallet to get it to work for the Note 2.
DO NOT FOLLOW THESE STEPS. DO NOT FOLLOW THESE STEPS. DO NOT FOLLOW THESE STEPS.
1. Start with fresh install of Wallet without opening the app (I started on a fresh ROM install overall but it should be the same)
2. Open build.prop using Root Explorer (or whatever you use to edit it, make a backup first)
3. There are 2 lines where it says “ro.product.manufacturer=samsung” and “ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus”. I changed the “samsung” to “Sony Ericsson” and changed the “Galaxy Nexus” to “LT15i”. No specific reason for this, this is just the model I knew off the top of my head that is a completely different device.
4. Save and Exit. Reboot device.
5. Once booted up, open wallet (this should be the first time you’re opening it since install) and you SHOULD NOT get the secure element error anymore and you SHOULD BE able to get thru set up. However it errored out when adding the Google Card, I assume it will for you too.
6. Exit app, go back to Root Explorer and get the backed up version of build.prop and replace the new one so it is now back to original.
7. Reboot
8. Open app info on Wallet and clear data.
9. GOOGLE WALLET SHOULD NOW BE WORKING AGAIN! YOUR GOOGLE CARD SHOULD ADD BACK WITHOUT ISSUES! HOORAY BEER!
Any help letting me know if it's bricked and/or trying to get this solution to work on our phone would be greatly appreciated.

Were you able to get your secure element working again?
I got past the Secure Element error now I'm having the problem of adding cards. I'm trying to setup with r81 but it crashes at adding account.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
That error does not mean you bricked your SE, that means that the Nfc lib files do not have the correct headers to unlock the SE.

You cannot use R81 on the note 2. You need R87, as our phones have a new secure element (v2.0)

I figured out it wasn't bricked but thanks for the extra info. I wondered why it did that on a new ROM. Now just having issues adding cards since r81 crashes.

R87 doesn't let me add cards either though. I tried that one first.

Start a logcat, then try to add a card. This will show us the error that's preventing cards from being added. My wife's S3 had an error related to a file in the SE applet not being found, and I haven't been able to fix it to date.
Well quite a coincidence... But I did as you said and removed r81 and tried to add a card and it didn't work so closed it and reopened with a logcat running to try to fix it and my pin didn't work. So I reset data and resetup wallet. I started another logcat and wallet was sitting on "Adding card..." so I closed wallet and reopened and it was added and ready to use. Thanks for your help. What a mess...

Pretty sure you're not opening exe on a mac. Not without a VM (and being "computer stupid", meh) . Why not just have your cousin unroot it/revert to stock? I'm no expert, here, and haven't used a mac since the apple ll (number munchers!)

If you are still stock with just root, you don't need Odin and all that. Just open the supersu app, click the settings tab, then at the bottom click full unroot. Fast and easy!

I don't believe so because they're considered 'purchases' on your Google account. Try opening the play store on your computer logged into your Google email account & mess around with it there.

Hi I have an Enco B046 car radio which incorporates Android 3.2.2
All was working fine last year and had installed all my apps etc but recently tried to connect to the Market/Play Store to install other apps and it hung for a while then gave me the error:
There was a network error while trying to sign in to <gmail username> Retry now or press Back button to cancel

I have internet access from the browser etc but just not Market and Gmail.
I have tried clearing the app data and even done a full wipe.
According to the 3G data icon it's trying to send data but receiving nothing back and it just times out.
Any ideas?

I've already tried that. I even tried clearing the data on the Google Framework.
The only other hints I have had was to check the date/time (which I presume is for the SSL cert) I was going to try and install something like tcpdump or wireshark to see what is actually being transmitted etc but I presume that will need root?
Could you connect your device through adb if yes then u can get root access
Sent from my A116 using Tapatalk 2
unfortunately not, there's only one USB host port on the back and judging by other posts on the net, no-one has managed to root it yet.
I have just swapped the 3G for WiFi and ran TCPDump on my router. I found that it tries to connect to port 80 on 74.125.93.113 however that IP does not respond.
From googling the IP I notice other android users having the same problem but looks like you need root to fix it in the /etc/hosts file
Gonna keep googling to see if there's another fix
You now abt arpspoof if yes then try to swap this ip with a working one

Adding a new profile won't work because it is still trying to connect to the wrong IP. I have got a quick workaround just so I can get the apps I need on. I have connected it to my wlan and setup an iptables rule to redirect the old IP at the new one.
This won't work once the radio is back in the car and back on 3G. Is there anyway to update the /etc/hosts file to remove the error line without being root? Maybe some sort of update.zip?

yeh like theother post don't like rom manager. Either way kinda pointless, why do that when the phone/browser used to work fine. Gallery won't even open as it says there's no enough space, that makes no sense as I only have like 20 pics in there, and I've had way way way way more then that before and vids at different points.
dog ate my usb transfer cable, so checking the internal with airdroid and es file.
Ok have about 2GB free on the SD (internal not ext), here's where it's odd, was at Lowes and was trying to check the merv rating of a filter and went to download it and had the same issue as before "download unsuccessful". Used ES File and it downloaded fine. But whats causing the browser to not download, it always did before. I'd rather have that work again and just go into the gallery and open the download folder, vs Scrolling to page -> ES File -> SD -> Download folder each time. And rather not have to use an app when never had to before.
Any ideas? I like to save pics sometimes and send as jokes, or upload, and it was easy to go right into the gallery and send from there. Any ideas what this issue is as I can't find anybody else with it?

Not sure what you mean/looking for, but the post right above yours has more info.
Just an i777 that I've always ran Shostock2 and 3 roms on. But stumped as to why browsers won't download anymore, but ES File will. Browsers used to download right into my photo gallery.
I got the gallery to open today, though it did give me glitch twice saying not enough memory and wouldn't open (when I have 2GB free). Seems to open fine now though.
Well mine was working fine with Shostock 3 till I bricked my phone. After I fixed my phone no Samsung Roms will work on my phone. The gallery said memory full deleat photo's or videos. And I can't download anything, or delete any files with file manager. I was wondering why. Did it have to do with me bricking my phone.
Fix: When I have the problem I can reboot into recovery and fix permissions and after I reboot everything works great

I don't know exactly what you mean by "flashed." Did you flash a ROM? Did you root the phone? It'd help if we know what you're actually running. I've never seen the hands-free activation prompt, but I'm running Freeza's rom, so it might have already been disabled.
Anyways, if it's a notification popup, the easiest way is to just disable notifications for that app/process.
Below is the way I've hidden notifications on my phone.
Long-press the notification until the following option pops up:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then, just uncheck the "show notifications" box.
Hope this helps!
Sorry for not making it clear . Actually it's been flashed to prepaid and everything is working well . But still upon every reboot that hfa thingy keeps annoying . The trick isn't working in this case as that option to uncheck the Prompt is grayed out . I wish to know which apk does this so that I can rename or delete that.

Are you rooted or on a custom ROM? Do you have XPosed? There is a module called NotifyClean. I personally have never used it, but it looks like it works and it will most-likely do what you are looking for.

Hi everyone
I managed to root my android phone yesterday (I checked with 2 root-checker apps). Now I'm having trouble removing pre-installed apps like Twitter and Yellow Pages which I never use. I tried few uninstall apps, and after granting them permission from SuperUS, they perform an uninstall (some apps do it forcefully) and give a message that the apps were deleted. The apps are not removed from my application list but when I click on it to run, they give an error message. But when I restart my phone, those apps I deleted start working again as if nothing happened.
What I'm I doing wrong? My phone is HTC One M8, android.
Thank you for any help

I just tried it now but same problem. I select twitter to delete. It gives me a message that uninstall was successful. I check to see if it's listed on my home page, and it is although when I click on it, it gives an error message. However after restarting the phone, twitter somehow recovers and works again!!! Really strange. It's as if it wasn't uninstalled to begin with.

You need to remove read / write protection. You can do this most easily by flashing a modded kernel (boot.img) through fastboot. Alternatively, there's custom roms that have this already or you can mod a kernel module. There's a guide in the General section of your phone's forum. If you go that route, make sure that the module is compatible with the update you're on as the guide might be outdated.
