Hello,
my actual device is a HTC One X ... now I bought a NEXUS 10
I have a question, what Toolkit is the best to root my new Nexus 10?
In "Nexus 10 Original Android Development" there is:
[NEXUS 10 TOOLKIT V1.3.0] Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, Flash, Mods + MUCH MORE
from mskip
And in "Nexus 10 Android Development" there is:
[Toolkit] Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.1 [Updated 11/30/12] : Nexus 10 Thread
from WugFresh
I am very "new" in the Samsung (or google) section. Before I had only HTC devices
Thank you & goodbye
Robert
I used the Wugs toolkit to unlock, root and install recovery without any problems.
I believe I used mskip's Toolkit back on my Nexus 7, without any issue.
If anything, I would recommend doing it manually though, but this might be a bit difficult for new users of a Nexus device (no offense or anything like that; I had a Galaxy Tab and I recall having to use Odin and other stuff to root, none of that was needed on a Nexus 7 I got later though; and after using the toolkit a few times, I then learned just how easy it was to root manually, without need of "special" tools)
wugs toolkit worked for me like a charm 99% foolproof

android-sdk-windows is the best tool(kit)
I used a combination of information from qbking777 on youtube and instructions here nexus10root.com and I had no issues. For ease of use I'd suggest Wugfresh's toolkit. It is what is referenced in qbking777's videos.
I used wug's. It was pretty easy.
I used skip's kit. As with most kits made by people that have created several kits with success previously, if you read the thread and instructions fully and carefully it will work. I prefer using kits. I love rooting and flashing but, have very limited actual computer skills. There is no shame in using a kit. There is shame in not donating to those that pave the easier path.
I am trying skips kit right now, first time rooter. wish me luck

STABLE version: (a) XDA post, (b) XDA download, (c) Google Play download
BETA version: (a) XDA post, (b) XDA download
Description
This application REQUIRES a Galaxy Nexus (maguro, toro or toroplus), Nexus 4 (mako), Nexus 5 (hammerhead), Nexus 7 2013 (deb or flo), Nexus 10 (manta), OnePlus One (bacon / A0001), OnePlus 2 (OnePlus2), or OnePlus X (OnePlus / ONE / E1001), with root.
You've rooted your device, and you are trying to decide between the security of relocking your bootloader (with stock recovery and USB Debugging off), and the flexibility of leaving it unlocked.
You know that in order to prevent an unauthorized user from accessing your data by flashing a custom recovery, "fastboot oem unlock" wipes your data. This also means that if you relock your bootloader, you will need to do a full backup-and-restore whenever you decide to unlock it again.
BootUnlocker for Nexus Devices lets you have the best of both worlds by using root privileges to unlock your bootloader from within Android, without wiping your data. This allows you to keep your bootloader locked for security, with this application safely protected behind your lockscreen password. Whenever you want to unlock or relock your bootloader, just unlock your screen and run BootUnlocker.

Re: [APP][2013-03-09][root][N10] BootUnlocker for Nexus Devices -- version 1.3.1
I'm not home to test this app? Is it still being supported?
I also write for an android site and was wondering if it would be OK to do a review of this? Everyone loves one clickers.

I'm rooted with stock ROM, can I use this app to unlock my boot loader and then flash a custom recovery like twrp? All while not losing my data.
I just bought a Nexus10 and after rooting I used this tool to relock the bootloader successfully. Now I can confirm that it works like a charm in both nexus 4 & 10.
Thank you very much!
Sorry, not wanting to thread hi-jack here or anything, but this seems like the best place to mention it. If you've ever had the experience of rebooting to bootloader and you've forgetten to unlock in BootUnlocker first, or, you really screwed something up and can't boot the OS in the first place to unlock with the app, I made a recovery flashable zip that will do the same thing. Always handy to have on hand in case of emergencies.
Available in my Odds and Ends thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239421
Cheers! :good:

When I want to flash something I always forgot to unlock before and need to reboot again... Thank you very much for Nexus 4 & 10 versions.
Just a quick note to confirm that this fantastic tool works with the new nexus10 “MANTAMD03“ bootloader (android 4.3 JWR66V).
Thank you!
Another quick confirmation; just tested with a nexus 10 under lollipop (LRX21P) and works as expected
Was wondering if there's a one-click root available yet...just would love to get rid of some of the Amazon bloatware...
worked for me
I got a HDX 7 for chrimbo and managed to root it in about 2 mins. (apparently this doesn't work for the 8" one)
If you google "android cowboy how to root kindle fire hdx 7" (I'd post the link but in a new user and it wont let me) and pick the first link (published by Arash Soheili) you should see the page I used. Then I used another Android Cowboy guide to stick SafeStrap on there.
I'm yet to put my own ROM on there and get Google Apps running, so if you get that far, give me a shout!

I did a video and make the root zip for all versions. The root exploit was done by jcase and others. http://youtu.be/ptqvWGWEDnI. Then checkout the latest video on Installing Haschcode Safestrap and how to use it. http://youtu.be/A_HZF3m9LI8
First thing - this is not the Slate Pro 8! I can't find any useful information on if it's possible to root the Pro Slate 8 or how to do it. I have seen a couple of mentions of attempting with 'King Root' and 'Kinger Root', but I've also seen discussion about the uncertainty of their safety and security - and I haven't seen any confirmation that either app will work on the device. Are there any relatively safe and viable methods to attempting an 'unspecific' root on a device like mine?
The device is currently running 5.1.1.
What are the chances that this device will get TWRP and Root?
Not that I know... But this seems to be the best android tablet around now considering the price. Furthermore, its born with Android 8, which means it will be treple enabled thus the adaption of vanilla Android or others should be easier. Likewise, this should also improve security patches. I hope that someone will bring it.
Any progress of Rooting the HUAWEI MediaPad M5?
I want to buy it cuz my old Pixel C is sadly broken, but I wanna wait till it gots Root and Custom ROM:
@Marcopoloy13 I am in a similar situation as I would like to retire my old Nexus 7 (2012) and I am quite optimistic that TWRP will be available quite soon, as there is a device tree for the Honor 9 available and the Mediapad M5 sports the same SoC ...
As I am receiving my Huawei Mediapad M5 PRO next week, I wanted to look for root ... Is Huawei known to make a fuzz about root in case of sending it in for repairs etc. (I have a Samsung-past, friends of mine had issues with their support due to root ... ) ?
I am very new to Rooting, i just want to get linux deploy on this tab to install Debian. I have unlocked the bootloader the rooting is very hard.... i have no clue to what i am doing and was following the guide on this awesome forum but the imaging and so forth is not somthing i understand.
i have the CMR-w09 (non pro)
Unlock the bootloader?
How did you unlock the bootloader? I tried the “Huawei unlocking page" mentioned at Kingoapps website, but it didn't find anything about unlocking or bootloaders.

For any WIFI only device, contact Huwaei via Phone (they rarely answer mails, so dont write one), explain the problem using their site (WIFI only device, therefore no IMEI etc), provide them your tablets serial number and let them send the unlock code via mail to you. Takes usually two business days until you have the unlock code.
Hi guys,
I just left the Apple for the droid world (Honor 9 C432). I used to change my phone rom using cutom rom int the past (far far away...) like 8 years ago on an HTC...
But now on my honor 9 i'm a bit lost on the steps i have to follow to put custom rom.
My needs is to leave EMUI to an official android rom (oreo) or lighter (maybe RROS or lineage).
Is there a full guide that explains step by step the proceed to change the stock rom to a custom one ?
As always, thanks for help.

Well i just come back from my ophthalmologist and it seems that my eyes are ok.
If i ask it's because i don't understand the steps order, sometimes i see i have to backup before doing unlock bootloader and to backup i need to install TWRP but to install TWRP i need to unlock...
In the past i used to have full guide like for example :
To custom you need :
A memory SD card at least X GB
A PC with Windows or OSx or whatever
Those softwares (dl link)
1/ Unlock mobile blablabla
2/ install this softwares
3/....
Thanks for helping.
Try asking in the ROM specific threads. The existing guides are what they are.
Usually, you need som sort of basic phone modification know-how before you take on XDA forums.

Ok thank you fregor, i search on the net for tutorial i have find some to learn basics but they were wrotte 6 months ago and some deals with EMUI 5.
Does they still valid for EMUI 8. ?
Thanks
I would say : yes on the main lines, not in the details. the name of the image ( system , boot, recovery..... ) is not the same, for example.

If you're going to change rom, go for Oreo...
I suggest you begin with OldDroid's thread on how to install Oreo (it's in this section as well) to update to EMUI 8.
Then, if you want to really leave stock, after you're on EMUI 8 it's as easy as downloading a file and using a fastboot command on your computer. You have RR (Android 8.1) or AOSP (Android 8.0), both threads are in the development section.
One very important thing, not only you have to unlock your bootloader (which takes you a couple of minutes) but you have to unlock FRP (translation - Go to Developer Settings and toggle Allow OEM Unlock)
I suggest you do this first, then setup a Huawei account and go to the official website to unlock your H9, fill up the required info and you will have the code and the extremely noob-friendly instructions on how do the thing.
