[Q] How to install jelly beans build 4 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Ok, I'm still new to all these rooting and stuff. I just switched to android a little less than a month ago. I know that your phone has to be unlocked. but how to do install in build 4? I heard that you can't flash it via odin anymore? Sorry for being such a noob >.>

Go to his thread download build 4. Once downloaded check the md5 sum (google md5 sum checker download one). After that plug your phone into your computer move or copy the file onto your phone or sd card.
Once that is done boot into twrp go to backup make a backup. Than go bavk to the main menu of twrp and select wipe. Once in wipe select wipe data. Once thats done select wipe cache. Once that is done select wipe dalvik.
After you have done that go back to the main menu of twrp select install navigate to the beans build 4 file you put on your phone earlier and select it. Swipe to install. After a few seconds Aroma will start select which options you want. After that it will install. Once your back in the twrp screen hit reboot.
If everything worked youll see a new boot animation and your phone will be on build 4.

Wow that seems easy. Thank you so much!!! But once question, how do I get into twrp?
Also, I didn't get a md5 file when i downloaded it. I just got a zip file with a whole bunch of folders and such. or is it suppose to be like that? Do i just grab the zip file into my phone/card?

Note that you must have an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery. See Adam Outler's thread in "Original Android Development".

To get into TWRP power off the the phone. Once powered down hold the home+volume-up+power buttons in till you see the "Team Win Recovery" screen.
The Md5 Sum is a way for you to check that your download wasn't partial or corrupt. To do this you need you need 3 things.
1.)The File you downloaded in this case beans build 4.
2.) The MD5 sum Which is usually on the download page or in the thread next to the download and looks something like this "d8c173b25c8dcf93da4d577bdbe4b025".
3.)The third thing you need is a program to check the sum in the original zipped download file. I use [HTML="http://www.winmd5.com/"]This[\HTML]. Once thats downloaded run it select browse. Browse to your file. Once it loads paste the MD5 sum you got earlier from beans thread and paste it in the bottom and hit verify. If it matches your okay to move forward and move the zip to your phone.
To answer your last question yes its supposed to be zipped DONT unzip it. Just move that to your phones internal or external sd and flash it in TWRP.

Yes, you can delete it. However, it might not be a bad idea to leave it on your phone just in case something gets messed up and you need to reflash. Also you can (and should) always make a full backup in TWRP. Personally, I like to have both just to be completely protected.

No problem. As stated above its fine to delete. I keep mine on my external sd incase something goes wrong restoring a backup. I can just wipe and reflash the rom. if all goes wrong if you can still get into download mode you can flash imnutz stock image from odin to return your phone to stock and start over. So in your free time it would be a good idea to download that so you always have it. Have fun!

[Q] Help me unbork!

Here's the situation. I moved touchwiz launcer and odex to the root from system apps bc it kept launching even though I had an alternative home app. Didn't delete so if any probs. could restore. Phone was much better until reboot when I got an acore fc message that kept popping up,ok, restore touchwiz, not there anymore,I have no idea why.So I go to do a clockwork restore of my nandroid image, go to the file with the correct date in recovery,no data. Now I have phone that boots, boots into recovery, lock screen but a black screen on unlock, keys light up, notification shade works, dialer and phone work but that's it. So I mounted the phone to my PC. it recognizes the device, phone asks, mass storage, mount all ok. shows 12gig drive, so I try to push a rom by dragging and dropping but again in clockwork recov. it only shows all the folders present not the zips on the root. Now all this is user error on my part,I know I did something wrong, so you live and learn, but i really need some advice here. Beer for anyone who can talk me through this. I'm not proficient on adb. because I never had to use it so be gentle.
do you know how to restore through odin?
Are you booting into CW recovery? or are you trying to load rom from rom manager?
If you are booting in CW you should not see any files. You should choosing the zip file.

I am booting into the recovery menu, when I choose install packeges it takes me to the green CW recovery menu, I choose install zip from sd and it shows me the folders, but not the packages I want to flash. Am i doing something incorrectly?
That is the correct steps. Which rom are you trying to flash?
When in CW press " install zip from sd card" then "choose zip from sd card" the scroll down the rom and install.
Mr
First, thanks for the help! Let me try again. When I choose install zip from sd,then choose zip I am only seeing the folders, not any of the zips. When I choose the nandroid i made it shows the date of the image made but when i choose it it says no data. I am trying to flash fusion, but Id settle for the stock image which should be in there too which i can see from the drive when mounted on my PC. but not when in CW recovery.
ok man its time to flash from odin, its so simple. need help?
You don't put the update.zip on the sd card, you put it in the root directory of the phones onboard memory (so often mistakenly called the internal sd card).
Do that and try again...made the mistake myself so's I know all about it.

he said he dragged it to the 12gb drive plus would CW see the external sd card?
It'll see it, it just won't be able to install from it.
I'm not sure, but I think it has to do with permissions ?!?
Mr
Thats what I was afraid of. Im dl'ing it now, I think the slowest file host in history. I appreciate the hand hold offer, I may need it lol.
Ok, I have downloaded Odin through the all in one zip. I have watched some vids so I think Im comfortable using it,but I have a couple of questions I couldnt find answers to. Do you need to unzip anything from the all in one or just run Odin through the exe? The drivers are in that pack do i need to do anything further to install them?
Mr
Ok. My phone was acting like Loki, I learned to use Odin, and now I feel like Thor. It feels great to have a sure fire way to recover in all eventualities minus hardware damage. Hopefully my Titanium backup wasn't wiped. If any noobs want a walk-through for reflashing through Odin, shoot me a PM or post on this thread and I'll try to point you in the right direction. Now on to Fusion....

One more quick N00b question...inside

I downloaded Mcnut R13 and unzipped it. Where do I find the pit file and the tar file for PDA using Odin?
You dont unzip it, and you dont need odin to flash mancut, download rom manager and flash it with rom manager.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I see. But is there a way to flash it using Odin? I would like to learn how to use it in case I soft brick it.
So I do have Rom Manager installed already but never used it. It doesn't need to be unzipped?
And how do I change kernels using Rom Manager and Odin?
Please read my sticky's before you continue and mess up your phone.
I've read this guide already. It doesn't really explain how to use Rom Manager. And if it somehow it does and I missed it I apologize.
I'll keep searching in the Q&A forum.
It has the steps to rom manager step by step... not trying to sound rude, just making sure you do not F up.
Check your PM

My apologies. Instructions are there and I read them last night. I just didn't remember reading anything about if the file containing the rom needed to be zipped or unzipped. Unless it was in one of the videos...
Just tried to install from the internal SD card. I placed the unzipped folder in the internal SD under a folder named R13. Then I checked the option to backup the rom but not to wipe data.
Long story short, installation aborted. Message was: Can't open /sdcard/sd/Mcnut_R13.Zip (No such file directory)
Someone told me it had to be unzipped first. But if it's looking for a file that ends in .Zip, maybe this is wrong.
no you don't unzip it at all...
download rom
put it on root of sd card (i.e. not in any folder)
boot into clockworkmod recovery via rom manager
if you get booted into stock recovery just keep choosing 'reinstall packages' until you get into CWM
make a backup of your current rom in case things go wrong
once thats done, choose 'install zip from sdcard' (4th option)
choose 'choose zip from sdcard'
navigate to preferred rom to install and push the power button to flash it
wait for it to finish and then reboot your phone
enjoy

Devoid.Franco Kernel 14

Been using Franco's Rom and Kernel and it's been great. However, I like to update to his v.14 kernel. I did the format
1. Wipe
2. Partition, etc...
3. Load v5 Rom
4. Restart
My problem is right here, the warning is to delete the tweaks file and the script file (which I don't have one) in File Manager. I use the OI manager that comes with v5 Rom but it just wont' delete, and I don't want to load the new kernel because of all the warnings, please help :-(...

it wont delete cause of permissions. I use root explorer for this kind of work. In this particular case i had deleted the nececary scrips from the flash zip and i flashed afterwards. (i had a clean install)
I am trying the clean install as well, can you give the instructions or point me to somewhere where I can read more about this, thanks for your time and effort.
Do I just delete it in the Devoid.Franco v5 zip before flashing and then restart the process (the only file that I can find is tweaks.sh)
Sorry, found the init.d file as well. Would I delete those files in the zip, rezip and then start the process over?
you just delete them from the zip and you flash it as usuall. just dont forget to disable verification check on your recovery or else it will give you error
Sorry, just a newb when it comes to this.
I couldn't delete the two files from the devoid.franco.v5.zip file so I did the following:
1. Extract the zip file
2. Deleted the two files
3. Rezipped the files into a new devoid.franco.v5.zip
4. Load the zip into the micro sd card after all the wipe and partition
5. Disabled Signature check
6. Tried the flash and it said it can't open the zip because it's bad :-(...
This can't be that hard when all the other kernels was easy to install...

Extracting a zip and re-zipping it DOESN'T work. You are not supposed to unzip the file. Just flash the rom, delete the offending files using root explorer, and then flash the kernel.
Sent from my LG Optimus One P500 using XDA App
You should't extract the file and rezip it. It corrupts it when it comes to flashing. I personally browse the zip file with winrar and simple delete the files i need. I also add files to zip this way like apks, ringtones etc
Trying winrar and it seems to work, gone to see if I can finish the entire process. Thanks so much for your time again. In the future, can I send the apps that I want directly into this zip? I can to sue something zipsigner before to get calendar, etc... Thanks again!!!
An alternative way for a clean install:
1: wipe everything
2: flash devoid.franco.v5
3: reboot (to check if everything is ok)
4: reboot into recovery
5: mount /system partition under 'mounts and storage' (clockworkmod)
6: from pc type (with phone still in recovery): 'adb shell'
7: in adb shell, type: 'rm /system/etc/tweaks.sh'
8: in adb shell, type: 'rm /system/etc/init.d/00script'
9: flash franco.kernel.v14
10: reboot
I Hope it helps,
Bye
You're welcome m8.
And yes you can have the apps you want inside the rom this way very easilly. just put them in app folder. I did this with some removed apps like browser and calendar and also removed zeam launcher and used adw launcher (personal taste) I even tried that with frameworks (aka themes) and it worked great
Thanks so much to both of your posts, it's working. One last questions, thought setcpu was already implemented in this kernel, but I don't see it anywhere? Again, thanks again for everyone's time and effort, learned so much today (wife is mad though because we need to do house work, lol, lol, better get going)... She said, "who formats their phone 5 times in 1 month, lol, lol"
setcpu is NOT included, you have to install it.
See first post in franco.kernel thread for the link.
Eh! eh! you are not in Europe, I guess if you have to help your wife NOW!!!
Barcelona-ManchesterUTD right NOW...
oh yes the wifes. my gf gets fustrated like "wtf are roms and kernels?? its just a phone!!! you call people and they call you back" rofl
One last note on setcpu. When i was using last version (2.13), every time i rebooted my phone the settings where gone and had to set them again. I switched to v2.1 and it worked like a charm. Have no idea if that is general issue or only me had it. Just thought i should tell you
Done via editing the zip with rar and all worked smoothly.
Thx all

Twrp Recovery

Every time, I download a rom it won't go straight to my sd card. When I'm in TWRP recovery, it doesnt show that I install the rom in my download folder. I am running a rom now, but I want a different one, what should I do.
Well... Just select the desired path when you download your preferred ROM.
Are you using your computer to download your ROMs or your phone?

I use my phone and the computer to download Roms. When I connected my phone to the computer, the Rom I install, on my computer, won't go the to my sd card. It says that the Rom is there on my computer, but not in TWRP recovery( Sd Card)
Why don't you create a folder on your phone named like this : 1X+ and transfer every ROMs you want to install in this folder only?
This is what I have done on my phone and it's the very first folder I have in TWRP Recovery, from there in recovery when I click on Install the folder 1X+ is right there on the very first line and any ROMs to flash inside. All I have to do is select and swipe to flash.
Maybe I just don't get what you are trying to explain to us.... if so Sorry.

Okay I have a folder, where I download Roms to. When I download a Rom, it won't go to that folder. I use different folders, the same thing happens, it won't show up in the folders, where I put the rom to.
Are you unzipping them before putting them in your folder?
They must stay as a .zip file otherwise they are not recognized.

It sounds like you are downloading the rom to your computer, plugging the phone in to the computer booted in TWRP and trying to install. If so this will not work. The zip needs to go on your phones SD card. Also you may be wiping incorrectly. What options are you selecting.

My device broke after installing cm 11.....please help me

:crying:
I did not backup my rom as the device had no space
I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4.7.0 (SM T230NU)
TWRP 3.1.0
So I recently downloaded Cyanangen MOD 11 from a friend I met on XDA. It is file more than 900 MB- I downloaded this to my tablet and Flashed it using TWRP 3.1.0.
Before I flashed the .zip file
I wiped Dalvik Cache, Cache, and system
When these were being wiped I got the message Failed To Mount Cache and system
I did the usual thing everybody did and changed the file system to exfat 4 and fat etc.But I did not wipe one-thing because I was too lazy to change the file system
I flashed the rom and everything went fine, then it said Looking for md5 file or something and then it said skipped md5 file for some reason
It rebooted and I though it would show something, but after 4 hours nothing happened.
I went into the recovery and changed the file system of everything that should be wiped but when I pressed install the rom.zip file was nowhere to be seen and now there is no software for it to run
Every time I reboot it, its stuck on the boot logo and there is no boot animation.
Please Help Me My mother and my brother are very angry at me:crying::crying::crying::crying:

You don't need to change file systems. Put the .zip in a SD Card, and advanced wipe everything, except External SD Card. I would recommend flashing back to stock and re-root it.
