you need a modified rosie.apk
which means you have to be rooted
Hmm wonder why they would include it and give option to change buttons bit have to be rooted to use it. And why it works in apps browser and alternative launchers but not stock..... OH WELL ill get over it:banghead:

Its not that you have to be rooted to use the menu button. Its just that the sense launcher i.e. Rosie.apk, doesn't have the menu button unlocked on stock. Really no need for it. So you have to edit the apk to use it on home screen.

If you are rooted there is thread in android development section with flashable mods, bunch of good stuff HTC didn't include

Thanks to Tommytomatoe and one_love_420 I have finally figured out remapped Rosies for 3.0, So far I have Browser,MMS and Camera. These have been tested and work fine on both 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 Roms.they, however, do not change the right icon, i will get to that later though. So for now enjoy!!!
Browser
MMS
Camera
LaunchKey
No Transparent App Drawer
Browser
MMS
Camera
LaunchKey is an app that will work like the Rosie Settings from Synergy, you can basically program any application to the right Rosie button. This Zip does not contain the actual LaunchKey application only the mod to Remap the right button to lauch whatever app you have LaunchKey to open. LaunchKey is .99 in the market. More info on launchkey here
More to come....
If you like these mods all i ask is a simple press of the thanks button!!
Added Remap Rosie to LaunchKey to the OP.
Thanks SO much..iv'e been waiting for this....think maybe u can make some without the transparent background, please?

when you push the rosie button does the launcherkey icon show up in the recent apps, either in the drop down or when you hold the home key?

Yeah i noticed that with that app, I don't personally use it, I use the mms one I did. I didn't like that every time I hit the rosie button that ugly green hand would pop up in the recent apps in the drop down. But if you search for launchkey there's a whole thread about it. I think I linked it in the op. Look through the settings maybe there is something in there.

im s-off so i flashed the radio firmwear zip in bootloader.. and then i flashed new stock rooted jelly bean rom.. ever since that when i go into display then buttons.. i try and change it so my recent app button is menu.. but not it wont work and before it worked just fine?? go into display then recent app button then choose the middle option 2# one that should make recent app the menu.. worked just fine before
The menu button on recent apps doesn't work on the home screen. You gotta be in an app or the app drawer for it to work. I know it sucks, takes longer to change skins and wallpapers now

I've been using the SuperNexus ROM for the i9300, however one of the things I miss from CM10 is the ability to reassign the buttons of the device (the Home, Menu and Back buttons).
Is there a tweak that exists which will allow me to do this? I want the Menu button to open the Multitasking screen, and the Home and Back to remain where they are.
Cheers

Very new to Android, so is there anything anybody knows about that I can flash onto the phone that could add this feature other than changing ROM's or using software keys?

This can be acheived by using something such as Jkay deluxe framework.
I think you'd need to buy the deluxe settings app off the market too. Well worth it in my opinion.
I just flashed AOKP, but the only way I can find a menu button is to enable the NavBar. Is there a way to make the recent apps short press be the menu button and make recent apps long press?

You need to edit the buttons in system/user/keylayout.
That pathway is not even close to what u need but if you search the thread you'll find the correct path

System/usr/keylayout/synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl
Edit were it says APP-SWITCH to MENU save an reboot but you will lose the press and hold for recent apps
Also why you not give root box ROM a try it has all AOKP features plus the option you're looking for like in CM10 to remap these button

I've done a bunch of searching but haven't found an answer yet. Is there a way to remap the recent apps button to be a menu button? And long press for recent apps? I am stock, s-off, rooted, if that matters. Thanks!

It is a recent apps button, not a menu button.
Op, mist roms allow you to change it, but you can't on stock.

Just get a new launcher from Market.
Its easier (and more safe) than mucking around with the stock one.
I know Holo Launcher Pro (HD as widgets, also my all-time favorite launcher for some reason) has the ability to rename drawer tabs, and load either most recent, most frequent, widgets, and custom list in them.
I am sure that there are other launchers that do the same.
If you want to change anything in the stock launcher, you must have root privleges.
Use at your own risk. Havent ever modded a launcher before, only other apps.
Copy the apk to another location (and make a backup if anything goes wrong).
Change the extension to .zip
Explore the zip, and modify anything that looks safe to change.
If you are brave enough, rename the extension to .apk again, and place it back in the "system/app" directory.
Reboot the phone if nessisary.
Use at your own risk.
Please thank me if you found this useful.

Many roms now support this feature and there is also a mod that when you flash it, it will enable this feature.
