The day before yesterday I found there's a 4.1.2 OTA available for my Xt912,so i upgrade my pnone to 4.1.2,and i use voodoo OTA to keep root, but when i use razrbootstrap(unofficial recovery)to install a 3W_3G(To enable the CDMA 3g) pakage, after that i reboot the phone but only to find that it had this screen, saying "Encryption unsuccessful" and your only option a button that said "Reset Phone"........
How can i get my phone working again(I am a Chinese,a little Chiglish)

You'll need moto-Fastboot and the 2 winADB.dll's you can find in most root packages.
Open command prompt (admin)
Boot phone into APfastboot
Navigate to folder with Fastboot
Moto-Fastboot erase cache
Moto-Fastboot erase userdata
Moto-Fastboot reboot
Be careful about flashing and using ICS hacks and recoveries n such. I've found not all are JB compatible.

you mean the problem lies to the unofficial recovery for ICS?It's nothing to do with the package I install?
I can't say for certain. But I know whenever I installed black recovery I hit the same issue. Did the Fastboot fix and it all worked fine again. Been playing with safestrap 3.05 with no problems so far. But no Roms or anything. Just installed to see if it would work fine. It could be the CDMA 3G thing you installed too.

Same Issue
So I most definitely have the same issue. I used the unofficial Razr Bootstrap 2.0 (apparently more for ICS than Jelly Bean) after I flashed the recently released 4.1.2 on CDMA Razr Maxx. I was trying to use the CM9 battery mod....
More to the point, I'm not sure I understand the instructions fully on how to fix it. Also does it wipe your device? I'm trying really hard not to do that. I know how to go to AP Fastboot on the device. But is moto fast boot a program? I think this is it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953948
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
EDIT - I figured most of it out. I can execute all the commands. But the erase userdata is going to erase all of my stuff isn't it? There's no other way to fix the issue? I'm holding out...

Are you running an ICS custom recovery? I would remove it if so and get a JB compatible recovery or stock recovery. If that's not the issue try to determine what app or mod is installed that's conflicting with the system. New upgrades its always wise to try one thing at a time so it's easier to narrow down the variables if something goes wrong.

This ROM is completely stock 9.4.2.15 except for:
Rooted
Insecure Boot.img (Allows the system to be mounted writable)
ADB debugging enabled (Allows running logcat if needed)
Instructions
Make sure your Prime is unlocked and you have CWM installed (see this thread for help and a handy tool to do that)
Shut down the prime
Hold both the Power-button and the Volume-down button until the splash screen appears and some white text in the left top corner is visible
Release both buttons and press the Volume-up button
The device now boots into your CWM recovery
Make a backup of your current ROM
Inside CWM select "wipe data/factory reset" (Optional but highly recommended)
Then flash the rom zip as usual
Then flash the Accounts & Sync fix zip as usual
Download

I realize that "wipe data" has become the catch-all cure for custom rom issues, but why is this a required step for what's essentially a stock rom when the locked bootloader version doesn't need to wipe data?
I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering why this is a required step (instead of an "if you have problems try wiping data" step)?

I say that to limit issues. You can try it without wiping and then wipe if you have problems. I flashed it over 11.1 and it worked but it seems to run better when installed fresh so I'm re-setting up my apps.

Certainly an easy way to update the kernel, but based on the ways the Prime seems to manage to get bricked even after the user follows instructions to a T I am worried that including the kernel may cause you and the users a big headache if things go awry.

I've tested it a couple of times on mine. I removed the recovery and bootloader blobs from it so it just basically puts the boot.img in the staging partition and installs it on reboot just like CWM or any other blob. I doubt that anyone could brick with this since it's only touching the boot partition.
Hey,
once we got some successful kernel flash reports, do you mind if I take a look at your updater-script for the kernel thing?

Collaboration for the win!
Ah, that is an excellent idea
Calling dd via busybox should work
It just seems the in-built CWM functions for flashing stuff doesn't work at all for the kernel blob.
Thanks, once confirmed, I'll add it to my ROM too

Thanks! Yeah, I had a hard time trying the old methods to flash the kernel. This method seems to work well. I'm anxious for feedback from people that have installed it.
If you have flashed this, please post and confirm that it installed the ROM and kernel fine for you.
Thanks!
Flashed no problem without wiping, and Kernel installed no problem too. Works great, thanks a lot.

You MUST be on the ICS OTA firmware before applying this one.
It will not work without the firmware update that goes with it.
And while this is an update, you need to wipe everything before installing it.

The commands are the some in both Windows and OSX. In other words adb is adb.
Any thoughts on whether it will be possible to flash pre-OTA ROMs over the new firmware? (I did see on another thread someone encountering the mainver issue again, so I suppose we'll have to reset mainver if we do that).

What annoying warning? This is an HTC update, not a home made one. There shouldn't be anything hokey with it.
If you switch to some other mode, it probably wants the right kind of SIM for that mode. Assuming that's what you mean.

Hello,
Could you pls help a noob with a rooting problem? I attempted to root my ICS AT&T Galaxy Note i-717 using Odin3 v 1.85 and a pda.tar file. Prior to that, I had checked and confirmed the USB drivers are installed (I have Kies software installed on the PC. However, folliwing the succesful flash of pda.tar I got the phone stuck at the Samsung screen. I could still get to the download screen. However, the phone would not go pass that screen. Can you pls tell me what I did wrong/guide me w simple steps on how to fix the phone and finish the root? I have the read many different root treads but I find them confusing. Treads are ponting at different files to be frashed/installed on the phone. Thanks very much.
This happens from time to time...don't worry.
Reboot phone in download mode, connect phone, reflash kernel.
A few things: use stock samsung cable. Use back of computer usb port. Reboot computer before you try again. Re download the kernel to be sure your file is not corrupted. Make sure phone battery is more than 80%.

Stuck at Samsung
I have the same issue tho have tried troubleshooting and could really use some extra help.
Updated to ATT stock ICS update a few months ago. Everything workin fine.
Wanted to root it so I could back everything up not to lose anything when moving to JB.
Rooted by flashing Da_G's pda.tar, reboot, and then flashed 2.3.3.0 TWRP
Noticed it was stuck at Samsung.
Here's where I'm kickin myself because I should have backed it up before all this, but I waited because I figured root doesn't wipe data!
Entered TWRP, backed up.
Now what I've tried to fix it... and failed
1. Reflashed pda.tar about 5 times
2. Found a stock pda "pda-odin-att-stock.tar", flashed (fixed) but it's stock setup and contacts and other google services don't work, lost homescreen icon placement and all other settings.
3. TWRP: Restore all = stuck at Samsung again
4. Repeat 2 and Restore only System
5. Repeat 2 and Restore only Data
6. Repeat 2 and flash pda.tar = boots, but same thing with it all stock, so I restore and it's stuck again.
It's my wife's phone and she has contacts that aren't saved in Google, to-do lists saved in app data files, and to be honest, she said everything better be exactly the same after updating (which I promised it would be since the plan was to root, backup, update, and restore), so I'm kinda trying to save my hide. PLEASE HELP me save my ass ha!
Other things to note: I just rooted a new phone about 30mins prior with the exact same root and TWRP files and it went very smooth, no issues.
Using a Samsung original cable on a laptop. Phone Battery was ~30% when I did all the steps, but since then read that battery should be higher so swapped out to fully charged battery and retried the steps.
Using the root kernel you did, basically flashed a Gingerbread kernel over an ICS rom. (Doesn't work)
Your best bet at this point, is too flash a rooted ICS build from bigfau ...(located in the super thread stock section)
Just flash using TWRP ....BUT !!!
make sure you wipe the dalvik cache, system cache, and system before flashing the rooted ICS build.
Once the rom is flashed, you will be stock and rooted.
Regarding data you have lost with no backup....start begging forgiveness now ....it's gone ....g

Wouldn't I be able to just flash an ICS Kernel to undo the GB kernel and set things straight? Or is the whole thing ruined already?
I have the data/app and data/data files. If all's really lost, I'll just put JB on it. If I copy the data/app and data/data files onto the new image will all the apps with their settings/data be restored at least?
Yes, flash the correct kernel.
I think what happened to me is the OS got deleted cuz once I flashed a rom I was good to go!

Jelly Bean Anyone???
That's right, in case you didn't know, a Jelly Bean OTA was "accidentally" pushed out to lots of people on Christmas Eve. Maybe you grabbed it, maybe you didn't. Well for those of you that didn't, I have quite the surprise for you today!!!
Here it is, the "accidental" Jelly Bean OTA!!!!!
Let's go through the steps to get this on your phone. Now keep in mind, just to test out these instructions, I've done this myself since I am back on the RAZR now!
CAUTION!!!!! AFTER INSTALLING THIS UPDATE, IT IS COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE TO GO BACK TO ICS!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
Note: I am absolutely NOT responsible for anything that happens to your phone during this process.
Prerequisites:
1. Download the Jelly Bean update file and place it on the root of your external sdcard (root of sdcard means DO NOT put it in any folders, just put it on the main part of the external sdcard.) http://d-h.st/8l1
2. Download and install Winrar (free version) http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
3. Download Mattlgroff's RAZR Utility v1.82 http://batakang.com/ftp/DROID_RAZR/DroidRazrUtility1.82.zip
4. Download and install Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper from the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/...m9yZy5wcm9qZWN0dm9vZG9vLm90YXJvb3RrZWVwZXIiXQ
Update your SU Binary before backing up your root!
Install Instructions:
1. Find the zip file for the RAZR utility you just downloaded and right click on it. Select "Extract Files..." then click OK.
2. Connect your phone to your PC with a USB Cable in FASTBOOT MODE.
3. Go to the extracted folder from the Utility and double click the DroidRAZRUtility.bat file.
4. Select option 1 to fastboot back to complete stock .211 (Note: If you're just on stock rooted .211 with NO RECOVERY, skip this step. If the update fails, fastboot back to .211)
5. After fastbooting back (it will take a while) Reopen the DroidRAZRUtility.bat file.
6. Stay connected to your PC, with your phone ON normally, change the USB connection to MTP Mode, now go to Settings > Developer Options, and turn on USB Debugging.
7. Use the DroidRAZRUtility.bat file again, this time select Option 2 which will root your .211 build.
7a. Open the app drawer on your phone, navigate to SuperUser, open the app, and update your su binaries.
8. Open the app drawer on your phone and navigate to the Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper App and open the app.
9. Once the app is open, allow it Superuser Permission, then select "Protect Root."
10. Reboot Device
11. Go back to the OTA Rootkeeper App and this time select "Temp Unroot."
12. Turn your phone off. Once powered down, press and hold the power button + volume down at the same for about 9 seconds, when the screen flickers, release the buttons and quickly press all 3 side buttons (power, vol+, vol-)
13. You're now in the bootloader, press the vol- button to highlight "Recovery" and press vol+ to select it.
14. You'll be greeted with an Android on his back, press both volume buttons at the same time here to enter stock moto recovery.
15. Now in stock recovey, select "install update from external sdcard."
16. Wait for the update to finish installing (about 20-30 minutes.)
17. After the update is finished, simply reboot the phone.
18. Congratualtions!!! You now have stock Jelly Bean on your RAZR!!!
Now let's get your root permissions back!
1. Reboot your phone normally after the update finishes installing.
2. Open the Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper App
3. Select "Restore Root."
4. PROFIT!
IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE RESTORING ROOT AFTER THIS UPDATE, TRY THIS TOOL (made by mattlgroff) BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE!!!!!!!
Try this tool and let me know if it works please.
Extract to desktop
Make sure you have the drivers installed
Connect phone to PC
Enable USB Debugging
Double click the FixRoot.bat file
http://d-h.st/nep
Not making any promises but it might work.

ROOT ACHIEVED FOR JELLY BEAN!!!!!!!!!!

I know that there are other threads like this one, but I honestly thought mine was a little easier to understand and a little more in laymen terms. If any Mods want this removed, please feel free to do so!
seems very simple (affecting other partitions? I mean the other ROMs installed?)
thanks
Doesn't matter, people don't really use search function.
It maybe possible to get root back by temp downgrade to ICS kernel.
I'll only reveal it when JB for umts_spyder is official.
Requirement :
- CID partition backup. So backup now before you lose root.
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p18 of=/sdcard/cid.img
#It just 512kb (2kb compressed)

Opps. It maybe doesn't work for XT912. I take back my word.
But it never hurt to have a CID backup.

I have read alot about this new JB leak. And as i understand it is for xt912 (USA). Will this work for xt910 (Nordic)? Or maybe it will flash but will not give me signal.

Thank you! Added to the OP!
won't boot..
Hey guys, I ran into an issue while doing this for my brother. Once I installed the stock ICS via the tool in the OP, the phone will only boot to the motorola screen and then the phone goes completely black and will not boot. I can still get into fastboot, but if I try to reach recovery I get the droid with the red exclamation mark (so it seems the phone now has no recovery on it). I have tried redoing the process, but I'm getting the same result once the flash is complete.
Any advice on what I should do? Was using a fully charged CDMA RAZR fyi..
I appreciate any help on this and I'll be the first to admit that I almost always run into problems with Motorola phones. Is there another method or toolkit to simply get back to a bootable phone and try my luck again?
Thanks!
Does this work on a gsm xt910?? I am using stock rom but have a safestrap within so any help on what i can do!?!?
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
Nevermind.. I used RSD to flash the ICS stock. I suppose I can now go through the rest of the process in the OP?
Seems to be working fine now, so I'll continue the rest of the steps to get root and flash JB tonight. Please let me know if I'm missing anything and thanks again for any advice / suggestions.

Look for the process to install this in a thread made by whirleyes, this is for CDMA ONLY.

Thank you. This is perfect. I tried many different threads with different processes, but this is the only one that got it working.
Thanks for all your work.

Lost root
Hi guys,
So I successfully updated to JB using the method in this thread, but now it appears that I've lost root, even though I used VooDoo and everything. Has anyone else run into this?

I am stock rooted and didn't modify a single thing. The only thing I did was flash TWRP recovery because I was planning on flashing ROMS but I eventually decided to stick to stock rooted so I reflashed the stock recovery. I received the update a week ago and proceeded to install it. However, it seems to fail. When the phone boots into stock recovery it attempts to install the update but at about a 3rd of it's progress it immediately stops and all that is displayed on the screen is a phone flat down with a red triangle and exclamation mark inside it. I've tried searching about this but everything I find leads me to the One X and I've never owned that phone so I'm not sure how similar they really are. Does anyone know why this is happening? Would it possibly be due to a corrupted recovery file within my download source? Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone?

Mine is unlocked and the update worked fine. You just need the stock Tmo recovery to make it work.

That's the thing.. I do have the TMO stock recovery. Unless you can provide me with another link, the one I downloaded doesn't seem to work at all and I've redownloaded numerous times. I still get that triangle..
Link to stock tmobile recovery is here
I got it from this thread

My apologies. I completely forgot to report back to this.. YES, all is well now. Not sure why the other recovery didn't work as it did work for others but guess that doesn't matter now. Thanks a lot for your help. Much appreciated.
I used this recovery, and it completely wiped my phone and all my stuff was gone. And it still didn't install the update. Is that normal?

Yes when you flash recovery I believe it will Wipe your sd card. But your stuff should be on your gmail account though at least your phone numbers. You need to give us more info. Are you on stock t mo rom?

As far as I'm aware unlocking the bootloader or flashing an RUU are the ONLY things that wipe your storage. Flashing recoveries doesn't touch it except for adding in the necessary files to function properly.

I really cant remember if it did or did not when I flashed the recovery but in post #8 he said it wiped his sd. I could be wrong though. Just trying to help this guy out. I do know unlocking bootloader does wipe your sd though so i'm sure your right I just cant remember.
:| is the update supposed to go "reboot, recovery, blue bar moving along HALT reboot, recovery bigger loading blue bar, STOP dead, Red triangle"
ive tried it 3 times no luck.

its no so much I WANT the update as much as i WANT my phone to stop buggin me about the damn update XD
ive followed the thread linked above and tried all methods provided. no luck so im sure im doing something horrificaly wrong XD
all i can provide is this,
Verifying curent system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/build.prop", "5c450bd35b662fa55d667bda7463960e2eb669c
5", "48daa0113456b06b44b52c1b777d7d2e49af1196")
Instalation aborted.
soo all i got was something is up with the build prop that it dosnt like... as for the other randomness hell if i know.
its weird though as ive never rooted the phone. i just unlocked bootloader to get a custom recovery on it so i could make backups of my entire phone.
and flash that one mod that gets rid of the 3 dot bar.
Heres the build prop paste bin
