Not sure if this is a dumb question or not, but I'm wondering if SBeam can be used to transfer files?
I (GN2) was trying to send a pdf to my roommate (GS3) and we thought maybe SBeam would do it, but we could only get pics to transfer from the gallery.
Thanks.

I would like to know this as well. The only way I've seen is to use Wi-Fi Direct, but there was no progress bar so I didn't know of it was working or not.

Bump, I'm guessing it isn't possible since no one relied.

You can't with Sbeam but you can via wifi direct....
You can transfer the Quarter 1 Earnings Report with Wi-fi direct.

Sure looked like SBeam when they did that.
Guess I need to play around more with wifi direct

It was S-beam. S-beam uses wifi direct. You can transfer files but only from specific apps (my guess is that it would have to be in Polaris to transfer pdfs since that's the only pdf viewer on stock).

I wanted to show off the cool features of our phones when my girlfriend brought home her GS3. I pulled out my GNex to beam a photo I had taken earlier, and a notification popped up on my GNex saying the receiving device couldn't accept large files through Beam... Really? What's the point if a pic is too big? That means a video is right out of the question, and I was under the impression that that's what this whole Beam thing was about... Am I missing something? (yes to all your prelim questions too: NFC on, on both, beam on, blah blah...)
NFC transfers data at such a slow, miniscule rate that even a picture would take too long. The point of Beam is to share things like web pages and directions via maps.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, that's why Samsung developed S Beam which does the actual transfer using wifi direct.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
yea i tried that too, needs to use same wifi network to transfer files
GNex doesn't have S Beam.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
The GNex does have wifi direct capabilities though, doesn't it? Is there a way to connect a GNex and gs3 that way to do a large file nfc transfer?

Hardware-wise more or less every phone has it.
Software-wise you're right.

Just use Wifi Direct or Bluetooth without NFC?

Yeah, I guess that makes sense to work. It just defeats the beam purpose that way. Does anyone know if s-beam will install on the GNex like s voice did? Or is that a hardware issue?

I tried nfc s-beam transferring a 4.7gb mkv file and worked fine.

S-beam isn't NFC it is wifi direct isn't it?

Sbeam uses nfc to make the connection and Wi-Fi direct to send the files, only two s3s can currently use s beam

The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, which will be coming to Google Nexus soon (and Galaxy S3 apparently in Q4 of 2012), has an improved version of Android Beam that will utilize both NFC and Bluetooth (similarly to how S Beam uses NFC and Wi-Fi Direct) to be able to send larger files, which would really make S Beam redundant. So yes, it is possible, and it will come in a future update; I don't know if there exists any current alternatives at the moment, though (maybe install a custom Jelly Bean ROM when they start popping up?).
That ad where the wife shares videos using NFC is insanely misleading then. I don't really care anyways, can't see myself using this function for anything useful anyways.

You revived a really old thread, but that commercial is not that misleading. NFC is just used to start the initial connection (as Lennyuk stated 2 posts above yours) and wifi is used to transfer the actual files.
Hey everyone!
Just got my brand spanking new Note 2, and I'm already falling in love with it! Any recommendations for some core apps/programs for this device would be highly appreciated, thanks!!
Does it have the latest OTA update? If not, root and unlock that bad boy.

I've been looking all over the forums but no luck so far. I'm currently running Paranoid Kang Android and even when I can get the hotspot on, its undetectable . any work arounds or ROMs available? I can't even seem to Bluetooth tether.

Your welcome. Be sure and check the third post. The new Urber kernel is the sh*t.
Installed both without a hitch last night. I briefly tested the WiFi tethering and I was able to create one immediately and connect to it with my Note 10.1!

Yep. I don't use it, but Fuze put a lot of time into fixing it. Stop by the thread and throw some thanks and love his way. Glad you found what you want.

I believe this to require more processing power than this phone has. I.E. the first phone to offer this was the S3 which was quad core, we have dual but must say when i had the S3 i never used it. The zoom has decent multitasking so i still don't see the need for multi window.
Retard alert* no kil43 galaxy note 2 had it. Was then made for s3 by DEVS. Not officially Samsunh. Multi window was on note 2 first.

Does anyone know of a good IR remote app? The Samsung one isn't bad but it doesn't work well with my A/V Receiver.
Smart Remote is good. Expensive, but good.

Is that the EXACT name? I see smart IR remote and many others using "smart remote" as a search term.

IR on the note 3 works far further than 3 feet..... not sure why yours wouldn't.

Smart IR Remote by color tiger, I think it is on sale for 3.99 right now or something like that. Works great.
