Flashing Firmware and Changing Camera - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I'm interested in getting the Nexus 4 camera software for my S3. My phone is rooted and running a custom ROM but I have not a clue on how to flash firmware because I haven't done that for two years. What do I have to do and where can I find the software for camera and features on other phones like the Note 2, Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus?

Running stock 4.2 Android Camera (ie: From Nexus 4) on other phones
EDIT: If anyone is seeing this and they are on CM10.2 I really do not know if this works or not. I have not bothered with it as I no longer have time to mess around with my phone or contribute to the CM/Temasek projects. I am using the stock camera app.
Are you saying you want the 4.2 android camera running on your device? It is entirely possible to do this, and from what I am aware of, you do not even need android 4.2.x to make it work! (But I will not endorse that statement!)
I am doing this and I have a fully functioning photosphere running on my S3 with CM10.1 (4.2.1 android).
Some bits of info you need to know. So your phone is rooted, do you have a custom recovery installed on it?
You can find this out by pressing (VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER) while the device is shutdown. The phone will start up in recovery mode and on top left it should show the recovery version installed on it. If it is CMW then you are good to go, there are some other recovery modes too, but CMW seems to be the most popular.
When you know you have a recovery installed then just reboot your device as normal and plug it into your USB to access the files on your phone.
After this you just need to head on over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33516626&postcount=1
Scroll down to "Android 4.2 Camera:
Here is my latest flashable zip" in his first post and download the link. It's about 9mb
Download the zip file and copy it onto your mobile external storage. Leave it as a zip file on the external storage.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode again and go into install from zip/external storage. Pick the 4.2camera_t04.zip and install it. Once the install is done restart your phone.
Go into your settings > apps and you willl find that there are two gallery apps now (this happened to me, might not happen to you). Disable the smaller app. Restart phone again. Go into your apps and try out the stock Camera app. It should now be the 4.2 android camera. On the bottom left you can access the settings to change to Photo Sphere.
I am hoping this woulda helped you out a bit lol, and that this is what you were asking for.

I don't see why you can't run the 4.2 camera on your 4.1.2, though there might be framework differences which would stop it from working properly... So I really don't know
As long as you are able to run the zip file from the recovery software on your phone you should be set to go. What's the harm in trying? How about you try it out and tell us if it worked yourself? If it doesn't work just disable the larger "Gallery" app and use the stock gallery..
I am not a developer (though I have some basic knowledge in Java/C etc) and I do not use the stock odex 4.1.2. I am running on Temasek CM10.1 with the Siyah 1.8.6 kernel. CM10.1 is android 4.2.1. My phone is obviously rooted and has CWM 5.8.4.3 recovery mode.
I also don't know much about multiwindows and don't really see the use of it on a small S3 screen... So I can't help you with that either sorry.
So, basically. I have nothing to offer you besides my own experience with what I have lol.

:S Really? What custom ROM are you running. I am not trying to poach you but I am running Temasek v25 atm (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797109) with the 4.2Camera_t04.zip gallery. And the lag is not bad at all for me. It is very slightly laggy (and I notice this so much cos I am a gamer) but it's very very usable still.

[NIGHTLY][ROM][GWK74] CyanogenMod 7 (w/ Gingerbread 2.3.7) for Galaxy SII Q&A

CyanogenMod 7 (w/ Gingerbread 2.3.7) for Galaxy SII
The only rule of CyanogenMod: you don't ask for ETAs. You install, your warranty is void.
Warning : Not for new users, flash this build only if you know what you are doing !!!
FAQ (Please Read!!)
What is CyanogenMod (by mad-murdock)?
CyanogenMod is the only open source rom, that runs on 40+ different devices. we got around 45 devs (people who really write code and tweak things to make it work better - in contrast to cooks, who only use winzip to exchange this vs. that binary thingie) constantly making cyanogenmod better.
as background, you might wanna know, that google usually releases the sourcecode to their products (where honeycomb is the first exception, but thats another matter, ICS will be open source again). but when google releases their source code, you cannot compile it for ANY phone and it runs on it. thats the first part, we jump it - make it compatible with all the phones we support.
once it basicly runs, its time for what we call "cm extras" - we modify a lot on the gui and the system to make it run better. some stuff you as a user will never see involving tweaking libs and kernels, and some stuff you as a user will see a lot, like including theme manager, dsp manager, cm settings (cm settings are about as huge as the normal settings are). those settings range from simple "dont display clock in status bar" to complex profiles (as known from old nokia phones) or remapping of some keys (long press home, remapp search button behavior)
its way to much to list it all here, but i can assure you, cm is fast, usually stable on most devices and VERY VERY customizable - both in grafical ways as also in behavior way.

Q: How do I install this?
A:
Latest version: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxys2 (for when nightlies are working normally)
Check the md5sum if you want to be sure that the download worked (different OSes have different programs that do md5, on ubuntu it is md5sum that you run against the zip you download and compare to the md5sum number shown on the download website). ROMManager does this automatically for ROMs you download via ROMManager.
- First time flashing CM 7 to your Galaxy S2 (or coming from another ROM)?
Only for the International version of the Galaxy S2, US versions like the AT&T have their own device specific builds.
Note: sometimes you need to flash twice back to back without a reboot in the middle. The install should take a little time, if it happens very quickly, flash again.
Install via ClockworkMod (do not use ROMManager for initial install):
Make sure you're running a rooted device.
Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693)
Do a Nandroid backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition) - do it for real.
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery.
Do not reboot! We mean it - do nothing except choose zip and continue next step (if you come back to us with permission issues in install, we will know you did not read the directions and will call you an idiot). If it just plain hangs, reboot directly back into ClockworkMod recovery and continue at the next step.
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery, again (due to a bug in the install).
Reboot
Install the Google Addon through ROMManager which is easiest, but you can
download the gapps.zip and install via ClockworkMod recovery instead.
- Upgrading from earlier CM7?
ROM Manager method:
Install ROMManager Premium.
Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Pick Samsung Galaxy S2.
Choose Download ROMs.
Pick the CyanogenMod Nightlies.
Check the Google Apps addon.
Check Backup current ROM!
Check wipe cache, dalvik cache.
Let ROMManager finish the installation.
Clockwork Mod method:
Download and push the ROM zip file to the sdcard.
Reboot into recovery.
Do a Nandroid Backup!
Install the ROM zip from sdcard (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)
There are no Google Apps bundled with CM ROMs, because Google asked Cyanogen to remove copyrighted apps. After flashing the rom, don't forget to flash Google Addon package if you want it. ROM Manager will allow you to flash it if you just go into it and after flashing the ClockworkMod recovery for Samsung Galaxy S2, choose Download ROMs, and pick Google Apps. Or download and push the gapps zip for CM7 from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version#Google_Apps to the sdcard and flash it via ClockworkMod recovery.
- Going to another ROM from CM7?
You can go back and forth freely between CM7 and other ROMs via ROM Manager or ClockworkMod recovery as the file systems are the same and nandroid backup/restore works to go between ROMs.
Q: What are the known issues?
A: Issues that I can remember:
- Video playback - some formats are not recognized, use an alternative app for video playback
- Camera - some modes don't work
- TVout, MHL
- FMRadio
- Issues when using the 2G/3G-Switch
- Volume issues (some report too high, others too low)
Q: Where do I see the Changelogs?
A: http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=galaxys2 - this shows all the
changes that have gone into a nightly, including anything that is device specific to Galaxy S2 and anything that has gone into common code that is also included on Galaxy S2. If you see another device sometimes in the Galaxy S2 changelog, it is because the changes were done to common code and the repository is also included on the Galaxy S2.
Q: Can I flash over a previous version of CM7?
A: If updating from an already CM7 running SGSII phone, just flash the latest update zip file as it contains all the fixes from previous updates.
Q: I just installed and I don't see the Marketplace, cannot see GMail, cannot sync Contacts.
Q: I just installed and I don't see any Google Apps.
A: You need to install the Google apps. They are available in ROMManager. ROMManager also asks you if you want to install the Google Apps addon when you install via ROMManager.
Q: My phone is running too hot, my phone is not going into deep sleep
A: Try to isolate which application is using too much CPU. The first thing to try is to remove your media (video, music etc) files. Files recorded using Samsung camera, but other files as well, can frequently cause the stock Media Scanner to fail and go into an infinite loop. Then try to isolate which files are causing problems, and report them to us. If it isn't media, then it is some other application. Try to remove that application if it is a third-party application (and report a bug to them).
Q: I cannot find my media files that are on my external sd card
A: Look under /mnt/emmc as that is where CM7 mounts the external sd card as opposed to /mnt/sdcard/external_sd that Samsung ROMs use.
Q: Can I run Samsung Applications like Kies, Phone, Email, AllShare?
A: No. Any applications that use special calls into the Samsung TouchWiz framework will not work.
Q: I restored from Titanium Backup but my applications are not working
A: Do not restore system data, only restore application+user data. CM7 uses new system data and if you restore on top of it, things will not work.
Q: Your notification toggles are different than mine, how can I change them?
A: Go into Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, Interface, Notification power widget, Widget buttons
Q: My Notification bar Sound widget does not toggle through the options.
A: Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > Interface > Notification Power Widgets > Widget Buttons > Sound Modes and set the modes you want it to toggle through.
Q: I really miss the accurate battery mods, can I flash these?
A: No, but you can go into Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, Interface, Status bar tweaks, "Battery percentage"
Q: Where can I get themes for this?
A: A quick search for "theme engine" on the market will produce a number of results, but there are some in the general Android Themes section
Q: Can I use the video player/music player/contacts/phone/launcher from a Samsung ROM?
A: No, anything hooking into Samsung's framework will not work on this ROM, there are plenty of alternatives in the market.
Q: Where can I get the Nexus S drivers?
A: Download and install the Android SDK here then download "Google USB Driver package, revision 4"
Once downloaded, right click on "Computer", "Manage", "Device Manager", "Nexus S", "Update Driver Software", and point it to wherever you installed the SDK
Q: How do I go back to a Samsung stock ROM?
A: Just use ClockworkMod or ROM Manager backup/restore facility to go back and forth between stock (or any other ROM) and CM7.
Q: Can I use ROM Manager to install or back up this ROM?
A: Yes.
Q: Why do I not see the nightlies in ROM Manager?
A: Nightly builds are only visible in the premium version of ROM Manager. Nightly builds should up in ROM Manager when the CyanogenMod buildbot builds the nightly successfully. Every new device needs to also get added to the ROM Manager manifest before it is available. But, the same files are also available at http://download.cyanogenmod.com when the buildbot successfully builds a nightly.
Q: Why can't I play .avi or .mkv files? They worked fine with Samsung's ROM.
A: Due to codec licensing issues, this can't be provided out of the box. Several apps from the marketplace should be able to replicate this feature (such as RockPlayer). We will also try to put these enhancements into CM7 ourselves.
Q: I encountered a bug, how do I find out if it's known and where can I report it?
A: Try to get the logcat output and last_kmsg to your report by:
Code:
desktop$ adb logcat > logcat.txt
desktop$ adb shell
# cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg (only if you had crash/reboot)
# dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.txt
# exit
desktop$ adb pull /sdcard/last_kmsg .
desktop$ adb pull /sdcard/dmesg.txt .
Attach the logcat.txt and last_kmsg files to the bug report. Of course, you need to have the android SDK installed to do this.

Firstly, I love the first release of CM for the S2....very quick.
I have successfully replaced the samsung apps I liked, and i have gapps installed. One question is, now when I go into the market on my PC it says I have no Android devices to send the apps too.
On the S2, the market is fine.
any ideas?
I can see in Rom managet premium only cognition and darks rom. Is it normal? Anyone else witht the same stats?

No official nightly build has been built yet by the build bot......thats the automated rombuilder witch is used to build the roms.....so if no rom is built no rom in rom manager ......

It's a known issue of this ROM.
There is nothing to do for this time.
Cyanogen #1 !
Issue gonna be FIX, by next build's
i just have one question, someone said they used kg1 modem does that actually stay or would cm7 just overwrite it anyway?
since im too noob to post in development section i want to thank you all at teamhacksung for this
Also...why was the stock camera app replaced with one that is worse? (Camcorder is worse.) Its a great rom. But can someone explain this to me?

thank you for posting this here! :good:
Many thanks!
Thanks for this! Works great, feels more fluid... Except doesn't seem to fix the touchscreen deadzones that occur intermittently (but of course that's for Samsung to take care of)
How this update should be installed? Adb?
Edit. Sorry, never mind, this is for N5100 but I have N5100. Waiting for new version for my device.
I am interested in loading this rom on my wife's tablet. I have been flashing rom's on my Motorola Phones for years now and am very comfortable doing so, but a real Novice when it comes to Samsung.
I am on 4.1.2, insecure loader. I have tried both CWM and TWRP recoveries and can use either. I have also used Odin as well.
Question, do I need to wipe data first, and how do I load this rom onto a Samsung Device.
Sorry for the trouble, but I am a fast learner and will be on board soon (I hope)

Since this is an OS upgrade (4.1.2 to 4.2.2) a data wipe is highly suggested. Frankly, I would suggest wiping system, data, cache and dalvik just for good measure. If she wants to keep a lot of the apps' progress/settings she has, I would install Titanium Backup and back up all user apps first before doing anything. She may have everything synced with her Google account as I believe you can sync apps and their data through Google now, but I haven't tested it yet.
To install the ROM, you'd just need to put it somewhere locally on your tablet, I have a '000Flash' folder on the root of my internal SD storage for any ROMs/kernels/modems (on my phone), etc. Place it in there, then get yourself into recovery. Once in recovery, wipe everything I mentioned above, then go back to the install/flash option of whatever recovery you're using. Flash the .zip file you just downloaded and put locally on your tab. Wait a few minutes and boot her up!
Just make sure you have the right software for the right version tablet you have, N5110 vs N5100.

No problem, shouldn't be too different than what you're already used to, but I can understand the need for clarification when it comes to different devices as they're all a little bit different.

Also you will need to have CWM or TWRP installed as a custom recovery for it to work. There are plenty of options for installing and the new versions that are non touch should fix any issues uyou had previously. Happy flashing!

I'm all rooted and running the ROM...
This ROM definitely needs a little TLC...
How about putting a list of requests together so maybe we have an Idea of what we can expect?
Here is a thread for customizing this ROM!!!
Here is a link to the Google Edition 4.3 Camera
This works I have it installed. and it is pretty sweet. (even on a 5mp Camera)
I installed xposed framework today and it works well on this ROM. Has anyone else tried this?
You can go here for other mods to add to it...
After you have the Xposed frame work installed you can install the app_settings see attachments, to modify the per app DPI settings.
example, you open up app settings go to gmail, set the dpi to 160 & screen (dp): 1000x1600
I did this for System settings as well and they look nice.
Play around with it and we can build on it...
You can find other mods that you can see if they work and build a list in a new thread. REMEMBER TO BACK UP FIRST!
Ge the disabler in attachments to flash in case you get into a boot loop. These work well since this is a stock ROM.
NottachXposed works very nicely for this ROM... You just have to play with it a little bit, but you can tweak it out nicely...
Don't forget to grab the Multi-Window Manager over in the Themes and app section. It works Great Without any flaws so far...!
If you need a 3-way reboot menu, here is an excellent app here for that...

[Q] Rooted and Flashed with CM 11. "Can't play videos"?

~EDIT~
Recently I rooted and flashed CM 11. Any time I try to go and play a video, whether it's from the internal storage, sd card, or stream from a website, I just get "Can't play video."
Does anyone know of any reasons why this would be happening and how how to fix it? Or any suggestions? Should I reflash?
Also, usually when you hold down the Droid Home button you get a list of all recent apps as well as a link to the Task Manager at the bottom. There is no such link now though. Is this an Android Kitkat thing or a CM thing? How do I get to the Task Manager?

There seem to be pretty significant shortcuts/features missing and I can't tell if thats because it's kitkat, or because it's CM.
Example:
1.) Sound - ~EDIT~ Found "Sound" button. Wishing it had "vibrate" mode but at least now I can Toggle normal/mute.
2.) Brightness - On this one, there is a Button that takes you to a brightness bar, which is fine... but it won't let me select "Auto". It seems more like a glitch than anything when I tap it.

Thank you ^_^ Fair enough, She can definitely live without them.
Now its just a matter of understanding why videos can't be played. It wouldn't have anything to do with which gApps I used would it?

Videos cannot be played because of a kernel bug. The CM11 Official Nightlies have this issue fixed.
If you are running the official CM11 nightlies, what build number is it? Could be a regression.
I apologize,
Ive been checking for updates periodically, but Im not very familiar with what nightlies are. I figure these are updates/patches that are done on a nightly bases.
Right now my CyanogenMod Version is
11-20131220-UNOFFICIAL-acclaim
Build Number:
cm_acclaim-userdebug 4.4.2 KOT49H e9e3ba9b67 test-keys
Thanks to your post, I went ahead into "About Tablet" and then into CyanogenMod Updates to take a closer look. Since flashing CM11 Ive only been checking "New Versions (Stable only)", but I didn't even realize you can change which updates you can search for... so again I thanks to your suggestion I changed it to "Update types: New Versions (incl, Nightlies)"
Three options became available... so I downloaded cm-11-20140218-NIGHTLY.
Should I install?
I'd suggest trying the M3 snapshot: cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-acclaim.zip (http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/58498/cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-acclaim.zip).
Awesome,
As always, thank you very much
Now, Is that something I could just download and run straight from the tablet main UI? Or would I download it, put into same bootSD card I used to flash CM, reboot nook into recovery and then flash the snapshot zip? Either way isfine, just want to know which way to go.

You have to flash the zip via recovery (either TWRP or CWM, depends on what you have installed).
Make sure to do these things while in recovery, before flashing the zip. Do *not* touch /rom, /factory, /recovery:
1. wipe cache partition;
2. wipe dalvik-cache;
3. wipe data partition;
4. wipe system partition;
5. NOW you can flash the zip.

[ROM] Knox Free KK (I9200XXUDNE4)

It took nearly 24 hours to upload due to my dreadful internet connection but here it is, the latest Android version for the galaxy Mega I9200 AKA Kit Kat I9200XXUDNE4, repacked with a full Knox free bootloader.:good:
DISCLAIMER
I'm not responsible for anything, as usual procede only if you know what you do, and make a backup beforehands in case things go out of control.
This said since this ROM is Knox free you will be able to get back to 4.2.2 or to whatever ROM you want in case you don't like Kit Kat.
IMPORTANT
You can flash this ROM ONLY if you come from a non Knox Rom.
It means that if you were on a ROM that had Knox, like the latest 4.2.2 versions, you can't flash this ROM and in that case you'll have to go for the regular 4.4.2 Knox version available at sammobile.
BEFORE TO FLASH
Get a custom recovery, cuz this ROM comes without any recovery.
Why?
Because at the time I was testing it I kept my custom recovery to see if I could reuse it with Kit Kat, and since it worked, and since I don't want to loose again 24 hours to upload an other ROM with a recovery, you'll have to go like this.
There are plenty of custom recoveries on the forum, as for me I use that one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415294
but you can use any one you like, it doesn't matter as long as it has been installed BEFORE to flash Kit Kat.
Edit
If for some reasons you want to stick to stock recovery head to post #5, I've attached it there with some instructions.
THE FLASH
Download the ROM, unrar it and you'll get a tar.md5 file.
Open ODIN 3.04, put the file in the PDA section.
On your phone, enter download mode (press volume down and start at the same time), then connect it to your computer.
Once it has been recognized by Odin (it gets blue on the left upper case) start the flash.
It will take approx 5 mns before it reboots, that's it.
If everything goes ok it will reboot twice and then it will enter the set up wizard.
It could be that some app forces close and that it reboots one more time, in that case you'll have to enter recovery and format /data (and since you have a custom recovery you can do so without erasing your sd card contents).
ROOT
Easy, download the latest SuperSU_1.94.zip from the master chainfire, flash it from recovery, reboot, voila.
REMOVING THE LAST KNOX TRACES:
This has to be done manually (I could have done it and repacked/uploaded a new pre rooted ROM with everything done but sorry, my connection is too slow )
There are some Knox apps in the /system/app folder and in the system/priv-app folder:
-the ones that have Knox in their name are easy to guess;
-one is called KLMSAgent and should be deleted as well, and so too ContainerAgent.apk, ContainerAgent.odex, ContainerEventsRelayManager.apk and ContainerEventsRelayManager.odex.
In the /system/lib folder delete libknoxdrawglfunction.so.
Delete completely the system/preloadedkiosk folder and the system/preloadedsso folder.
In data/data delete the com.sec.knox.seandroid folder and the com.sec.knox.store, and the other com.sec.knox whatever folders there are.
Enjoy!!!:silly:
Stay tuned, in the coming days I will put some mods here...
I already made a deodexed version but I don't think I will upload it since it takes too long (24 hours again), so if anyone with a better connection feels like doing it he or she is welcome!

Yep, I have to be serious:cyclops: so here it is, I packed a stock recovery in case someone needs it for some reason (s).
It took (only) 15 mns to upload (not bad for a 10 mb file )...
Download the file, open Odin 3.04, put the file in PDA, flash, now you have KK's stock recovery, boooooo:laugh:

@bnb25
nope, you can't flash the ROM from recovery.
If some people are interested I can upload the deodexed version in the coming days when I have time, unless someone else does it before
I flashed somr stock rooted Rom awhile ago on the gf's phone. I been waiting on this update b4 doing anything. The phone acts up. Performance issues. She keeps ot close to full. Moving to sdcard doesn't work anymore. (That broke b4 filling the phone up. But didn't know that when we bought a 16gb sdcard.) So....thus has knox removed. You mentioned stock recovery as an option. You mean the stock kitkat recovery for the phone? Meaning that will introduce knox if you choose it? And if you do choose stock recovery with knox it can be rooted right? Just saying cause usually when first comes out it takes a lil time for someone to root it.

i try this rom for 10 minutes and it keep restarting..
so i flash again with ODIN 3.04, and it keep restarting again..
i have wipe data and cache+dalvik, i use twrp recovery.
can you troubleshoot this problem?
thank you :good:
sorry for my bad english...
Works fine for me. I had latest official 4.2.2 rom; I then flash a custom recovery and a rooted rom before I flash this rom via odin. After flashing this rom, I wiped it factory reset. All is well for me. 24hrs now. Thumbs up me general.....

@ninja_unmatched:
the recovery I attached is the stock KK recovery, and AFAIK it doesn't have Knox in it. About rooting a Knox cursed ROM, some people say it's easy but I don't have any personal experience on that matter.
But anyway, why don't you want to use a custom recovery?
I kept the CWM I had on 4.2.2, and after I upgraded to 4.4.2 it took me 2 minutes to root with Chainfire's SuperSu_1.94.zip...
So now I'm on Knox free KK, with custom recovery and root.
@congquer:
do a full factory reset and see if it helps.
@fpage:
nice to read that it works fine for you!:good:
@all:
if you are rooted and want to enable quad multi windows view (up to 4 apps opened at once on the same screen, fully resizable), check my thread in the themes and apps section..:
One of the best KK's new features cool:...
works like a charm, i've installed via odin, but lost root for some reason
Well the girl is like any other nooby internet user. She knows enough to get it infected over and over....lol. Knox actually helps a lil with that. I used to use my phone (Note 3) to check questionable sites out for clients. Knox would do its pop ups alerting me to there being something going on that I do not want. It has actually helped....weird thing sort of. Now of course it doesn't do that anymore but for her......it might lower my headaches if you know what I mean?
But...no I'm about to try it out now anyways after I backup her phone.

This step right here causes the same boot loop mentioned. An app forces closes just like you said. soon as you format /data after a reboot it goes into a boot loop. I am also using TWRP 2.7
You have to clear cache not data. Even with that alot of apps just force close.

Well it didn't work for me. And the supersu only caused freezing then reboot. I just went and flashed stock. Maybe I'll root it later. The process also messed with the sdcard. Made it unreadable. So I used an app (Called Photorec) to recover some of the files from the 16gb sdcard she has.

whenever I want to delete knox from system/app, it always failed to delete.
I wonder why?
@ninja_unmatched:
your girl seems to be like mine, willy to use the phone but messing it all the time, and then calling her man to fix it:cyclops:.
But you are worse tham me cuz you use her phone as a guinea pig!
The problem with SuperSu is that at first you can't install it a a system app.
In order to fix this you'll need either twrp recovery or aroma file manager ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108 ) and do as follows:
-download SuperSu zip,
-extract the app from the zip but keep the zip intact,
-flash the SuperSu zip,
-do not reboot but go to your file system while still in recovery, either from the twrp menu or by flashing the aroma file manager file,
-delete SuperSu from the system/app folder,
-reboot,
-install the SuperSu apk manually as you would with any apk.
Now you are rooted, and your SuperSu being on your data/app folder it doesn't force close anymore.
Later you can convert SuperSu into a system app from the apk's settings.
But this force close is a problem on KK, cuz everytime an app FC (not only SuperSu) the phone reboots, pretty annoying and definitely a deal breaker for me.
The messing with the files is another problem, it's because somehow KK uses another format than JB. But this one is easy to overcome, just connect your phone to your computer and copy the files to it, or you can copy them from recovery/aroma file manager (that's what I did, at first I thought it was gone but nope, it's just a format stoy) to anywhere on your phone.
@fpage:
I'm happy for you if everything works:good:
@serpentlord:

Are you rooted? Sorry if the question sounds obvious, but if you are then deleting the Knox apks shouldn't be a problem.
Otherwise if it doesn't work, use aroma file manager (see above, and don't forget to push thanks for @amarullz our dev from Bandung!) and delete the Knox stuff from within recovery.
That said I went back to 4.2.2, this KK is plagued with bugs and I don't like the new multi windows implementation, so until they make a more stable version and until I find out whether I can implement some of JB's multi windows functions in it or not I'll stick to 4.2.2...
I'll make soon a thread about specific KK's bugs, hopefully sammy will listen but don't hold your breath
A guinea pig....lol. yeah. Only thing I ever did was flash a stock 4.2.2 rooted Rom. For wifi tethering purposes. It was fine for awhile. She starts complaining about it....I find she filled the thing up. Apps, apps, apps, mad games. I move some of the apps to the 8gb card. That helped. Later she fills it up again. I get a 16gb card and then find out it won't move anything to the card. Broke that somewhere after the 8gb card move. She goes on facebook and clicks on those questionable site posts and jave you sign up while giving them permission to post on your profile and all sorts if sites I find are questionable. That and apps from blackmart and from that site that offers hacked android games/apps.
So far now she seems fine on the stock official 4.4.2. It has a few widgets and apps in Russian. I've seen a few bugs that clear up on their own.
1. The lock screen took a bit to update. (What I mean is this. I know when playing music will say Milk it will show also on the lock screen. It wasn't doing that. Had to reboot to get that going.)
2. There is an app called Wish. It allows you to send something you think another person would be interested in that also has wish. That feature doesn't work to well. You can choose facebook or google+. FB no work at all. I think that is some other reason for that one. Google+ works but only if you choose the regular browser. Through chrome the page doesn't pop up woth the option to use the app to open the link.
And generally I've just run into these lil quarks that eventually just start working. Or partially work enough to get by.

Yes, my device is rooted. I've tried root browser, root explorer and soon. but it ends with the same result. I wonder why.
And my device also keep restarting every 10 minutes. Is it a bug?
@ninja_unmatched:
I can't tell about this wish.apk and widgets, at the time I was still on 4.4.2 I had stripped the Rom down to only about 20 system apps.
I allways do this on my ROMs cuz I don't like stock apps, I rather uninstall all that stuff and replace it by third part apps that are easier to manage and not so much on the spying/bloatware side...
@serpentlord:
what happens is probably that you have an app that forces closes, and this is what makes the phone reboot. I had the same problem and in my case it was youtube, in your case it could be any other app.
Just start your phone and keep an eye on it until it says "sorry app whatever has closed". Then if it reboots you know from wish app it comes and you can uninstall it and/or replace it with another app or another version from the same app.

[i9305] Every rom below 4.4= Camera fails (speaker noise)

Hi,
Aside from the stock Samsung rom- every other rom built on 4.3 results in a broken camera.
I've tried several (rXtreme, Aroma etc) and in every one, the same thing happens. When I open up the camera, I can hear a faint sound/clicking from the camera area/speaker. Then it says "Camera Failed"
Dumb thing to say, but it's like the rom makes it think the speaker is the camera, and is sending power to it to launch the camera.
On stock Samsung roms (ie 4.3), and any roms on 4.4+, the camera DOES work. However, I need HDMI support so I cannot use 4.4.
I've tried all the solutions suggested eg SlimISP's files, different mods/roms/fixes etc. It's been happening for 6 months- so I had to switch back to Apple
Please give me any ideas here- I really want to get back on Android
Probably some files left over from previous firmware, do a full wipe before flashing.
Do this:
1. Flash stock, open camera, test that it works.
2. Use your favorite file browser with root access (Samsung MyFiles or whatitsname doesn't work) and go to to /data/cfw
3. Find .bin file there, that's your Camera FirmWare, copy it to a safe location.
4. Flash favorite 4.3 mod with favorite 4.3 custom kernel with SE permessive. (Agni or Boeffla, or use stock, but be aware that certain themes make WiFi not work)
5. Open camera, confirm it doesn't work.
6. Copy .bin file into /data/cfw, re-open camera.
I know you tested SlimISP files, but this method works ALWAYS for me, at least on AMCHA 5.x and TGP
Also, the alternative is to flash custom rom with stock kernel. Open camera to generate SlimISP bin. Flash custom kernel

Thanks so much for the reply.
So, I've written the stock rom onto my device (un-rooted). Problem is, because of Knox, I cannot root the stock software. I've tried removing Knox and a few methods, but I just can't root it. I'm using Odin 3.09. Am I missing something?
