[Q] how do I properly enable Google voice? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I went through step by step to set the app up. I get sms notifications that I have voice mail but when I go into the app to check my in box there's nothing. I have 3 voice mails since I've started using it yet I'm unable to listen to them. I don't even get transcribed versions of them. Smh. Any suggestions?

Google Voice for voicemail only?

So I like the Google Voice integration, I guess. Want to set it up for voicemail only and use Handcent fir text. Doesn't seem to work, or I can't figure it out. Don't want text messages in Google Voice. Anybody know the secret?

Yes the text thing is pissing me off. I just want voicemail as well.
I think you can shut the text messaging portion off in your account settings(on the computer...not on the phone)

LOL happened to me too. You have to sign in from a computer I think and "un" port the number. Reinstall Google voice and the first thing I think it asks is if u want to do the Sprint/Google voice integration or skip it for normal Google voice services. You need to skip that part and install like u usually do.
The part u do on the computer I'm not 100% about. I only did it once but i believe I found this info on MIUI.us in the EVO section.

Just turn off syncing in Google Voice. I get the voicemail forwarded to my SMS and then check the GV app manually.

That worked. Had to unassociate my number and go back to my default Google Voice number on the website. Wasn't easy to figure out. Should be a way to just opt out of text.

Look into google voice as an alternative. Its free.

There won't be a fix until there is a new GB leak.

i couldnt get google voice to work for the life of me. it was "setup" and working but when people would call me they would get the voicemail greeting i left for carrier voicemail. it would never go to google voice. i redownloaded YouMail as i used it once before and its been working. sucks because i really liked google voice.
Just a thought...
Did you goto, menu, settings, call and change voicemail from "my carrier" to "google voice"?

how do I make it so that holding 1 on the dialer calls my gv voicemail?
Why would you ever have to call your googe voicemail box? It sends them to the app on your phone. Try saving your voicemail number as speed dail one.

How do i turn off the press 1 & 2 when receiving call Google voice

I set up Google voice now when i receive a it ask me to press 1 to answer or 2 to send to voicemail i looked in all settings in Google voice and online and couldn't find away to turn it off

You need to disable call screening. As far as I can tell there isn't a way to disable screening on call waiting though.

Log in to Google Voice on the website, not the app, and go to settings.
under the "calls" tab, there's a "Call Screening" section. Click the setting from on to off.
as far as I know, there is no other way to change this -- it cannot be done from within the voice app (afaik).
make sure you save your settings.
Thanks

Visual voicemail....

I'm now to the android scene, andsoup. so far I think it's pretty cool. But one disturbing thing about the optimus is the way it handles voicemail. The is no visual voicemail integrated into the dialer, using a separate app sucks- especially when it's an att app that doesn't seem to load.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for that?

It's not built into the dialer, but Google Voice is a solution that loads and works well. It also tries to transcribe and emails those transcriptions to you
Google Voice also has an option to display your voicemails in the call log screen.

I'm using the ATT app and it works flawlessly.

I've been using PF Voicemail + on my old GS2 with good success and over the few days I've had my OG it has worked just as well. It also transfered my old messages and missed call log when I made the switch as a bonus. Not sure if that was the app, or the result of TiBu. Either way, no issues I can see so far on the OG.

Can someone help me setup Google voice?

I have a verizon note 2 and my visual voicemail just hasnt been working correctly for awhile. I can't seem to get google voice setup can anyone give me a hand? This will setup to google. Then open google voice. Follow the prompts. When it ask you to configure do it. In call settings under voice mail change it to google voice. It will say some error do it anyway. It must say voicemail changed. If it didn't click voicemail again in the settings and select *86. Then select google voice. If it just spins and doesn't say voicemail changed then all good. Reboot device. When it reboots go back into voicemail settings and tap google voice again and it should say voicemail changed.
I have, setup google voice on countless devices over the, past few years and this always works for me. 0 issues. Even after flashing a new Rom I continue to do the same steps above and never have voice mail issues on Verizon. I hope this helps you.

Also if it doesn't work for you I am getting my note 2 Mon or tues and I will do it and outline better details. My wife has a gs3 and this worked first try on hers. All Verizon phones will throw,an error but it will change. The key is when you see a box pop up that says voicemail changed you know it worked.
Thank you. I got it goinf there now im not getting voicemail notifications.

You might have to go into Google voice on your desktop and disable and re-enable(activate) your phone number.

Not sure what you mean by the default greeting but there are, or used to be as I haven't looked in at least a year, all kinds of settings in voice.google.com. You can also call your Google Voice number from your phone and then use the touch tone menu.
