Is there anyway to take full screen pictures without using the video camera snapshots? It really annoys me when taking a picture with the camera that I see those 2 top and bottom black bars!!!
The 4.2 camera is full screen, if you don't mind the issue it has with the flash (tip: press & hold the shutter button 'til it finishes the flash + auto-focus, then release to take the picture. It'll flash again.)
There are a few features you'll "lose" (bust mode, for example) but gain the sphere and panorama modes.
(You don't really lose the 4.1 features, though, since you'll still have the old camera and gallery apps.)

Ok thanks. So the answer was no. I'll just wait till theres a better fix for the 4.2 camera.

I seen some youtube videos and well as some articles of people taking pics with the stock camera app on the Atrix. Some people stated that you hold the camera button (on the screen) till the white focus button turns green, then you release it. Others have said that you just tap the camera button and that's it, it snaps the picture.
So which one of the ways, is the correct way to take a good pic?
Both work, but holding it allows you to see if the camera was able to focus well, and gives you better timing.
Is there a mod or an app to get manual focus? I could really use this when taking photos. Auto focus is good to an extent, but when I need something close I watch it go from a perfect focus to blurry and it's really annoying
I second this.

You know we have a two-stage camera button, right? Half way down focuses, all the way down takes the picture. So just get up close to your subject, half press, and then adjust your length to match the depth of field you're looking for.
I don't know of any apps that can hold the aperture at a fixed place though.
Like I said in my first post, I do that and watch as it focuses beautifully on the subject but then blurs it back out. Try it. Use the keys on your keyboard to take test shots and toy with it, it's quite annoying
It does have touch to focus as well...

You just touch on your screen where or what you want your camera to focus on. You notice the grid will move. Then snap the pic. You can also turn off auto focus in the settings. Im pretty sure there is no actual manual focus mode.
The op is right, the camera auto focus is stupid on close up.

Have you ever actual done those things when trying to take a photo close up? Because I have and guess what, it does the EXACT same thing as pressing the shutter button and without auto focus on, it still focuses
Yea agrees with op. Sometimes you get lucky but usually touch focus and half pressing the shutter button will focus then before it takes the picture it will lost its focus

Curious as to who is usijng the default Camera app on the Note, and who is using other apps from the Market (like Camera 360 or Vignette, etc).
Pictures on my note come out well, but so sloow writing & I never seem to know if it snapped a picture or not.
Ideally, I'd like an app where you click click & hold on the screen (it focuses) and when you let go it takes the picture. Very useful with kids so you can let go when they are looking the right way!
Any suggestions?
The stock camera app does the hold/release thing that you want. The picture snaps immediately when you release, the lag you see is just the picture saving. It is a pretty instantaneous picture though.

Volume Button
Are there any apps that utilize the Volume button as a Snap button, I'm using the Camera ICS+ app that can do it, but the quality doesnt seem as good as the stock app. Any suggestions?
How can I set my camera to focus *before* I take a shot?
And also, how can I turn on the flash before shooting?
I need this because I'm always trying to take pictures of documents (usually for Evernote).
They always come out poorly because I can't turn the flash on before I hit the shutter, and also can't focus first.
Yes, I can turn on auto focus and flash, but they only start *after* I hit the shutter button and the shots come out blurry every time, or worse washed out from the flash.

Press and hold the capture button. The phone will use the flash and focus itself. Then release once the square reticle turns green, and it will take the picture in focus with the flash properly.

stock camera autofocus is anoying need to press on screen.
i like the cyanogenmod camera, fast and good, so can any one sugest me a good camera replacer, looked on market but could find what i want, (have camera jb+) still no auto focus when i pres the buton to take foto...
any port of cm camera or aosp. that works?
it isn't that easy, the camera app on any android device is bound to hardware drivers and libs and framework things. but it's possible though like this one from Razr M, i don't know if it has the option you look for, try it though (just normal apk intall) http://www43.zippyshare.com/v/32432212/file.html
Noo still not. Na its a good camera.
But the auto focus is so bad on this phone. On stock camera when you pres the shot buton is does t even focus.... need to pres on screen. I loved the cm7 camera app. Pres 2sec on shot buton and it auto focus
Try "camera ics" from play store. Its supposed to be clone of stock ics camera. It focuses when you press shutter. It also takes photos while recording video so you won't lose that functionality. The photos and videos look much sharper with this app and the photos taken while taking video actually look good and sharp. Stock lg camera pics and videos look like it was taken by a vga camera if you aren't too careful
