had gs1 then I got gs2 then note 1 and now i own
Galaxy note 2 7100.......it is the best phone so far
I can't stop using the S pen, I love it so much
A lot of apps people have to buy or download, , comes with samsung phones......like screen capture and controlling the led notification colour and screen recording, plus samsung is the fastest to update

Note 2. If you can wait for few months then S4 will be available and based on rumors and previous phones, i think it will be worth it.
If you want to buy asap then note 2 is definitely best choice.
Nexus 4 is also great phone but don't have sdcard slot.
Sent from my Galaxy S3

S3
Definitely S3, one of the best phones on the market. Although I would suggest the S4.
HTC X+ isn't as good.

I would also prefer Samsung Galaxy Series 3 but i love my s plus because of its size

Yes I agree With Samsung S3 recommendations
But the nexus4 has almost the spec except external sd card (big draw back for me).. without prjejudice every tom **** and harry has one, if you where I'm cooking from..
Now the nexus will get latest firmware up know dates much quicker & also there's a lot going on in the dev section..
Yes the Note it's an excellent tab (not a phone) especially when size it's a very minor but important issue..
What about droid razor max, Sony..!!
What's The ETA on the Samsung S4.??
Which month it's rumored to be released any ideas.
KEEP UP WITH COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS..
WILL MAKE A POLL FOR VOTING SOON

I recommend the Nexus 4..
I had an S3 prior to getting the Nexus and it beats the s3 in every aspect except for camera quality
Dont get me wrong, the s3 is a good phone but the nexus 4 is a better phone..Best guess is ppl recomending the s3 havent had a chance to use the nexus 4 considering its curent availability status..
Keep in mind also that the Nexus 4 is a Google phone so u get the latest updates from Google first...

ZTE V970
Good choice is ZTE V970:
1. Perfect price
2. Powerful hardware (http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com/2012/08/zte-v970-dual-sim-with-3g-support.html)
3. Great customization abilities (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856578)
4. Nice design (not worst than phones with the higher price).

Hold out for the HTC Droid DNA. It is a 5 inch 1080p superphone on Android. It looks amazing.

[Q] What phone will be best for me ?

Hi, I'm now using iPhone 4 and i looked over android, i cant see now how i used iOS!?
now i looked for the best phone for me, and i chose gNexus, i liked the clear android over Sense and much over touchwiz! , i tried to get one and it didn't worked out (i want to buy my next phone in USA, i live in Israel and in USA its much(!) cheaper!)
so my sis going to NY in the next month, and that is my opportunity to get new phone. but then i realized the nexus has poor hardware, and im not sure is gonna last 2 years as main phone !
I'm considering the S3 which is beast in hardware , but going to be beast so its not going to be unique and that something i really want after iphone 4! another thing is that its not nexus, and the updates will come late! pros are battery , quad core , giant screen , 50g at dropbox)
another phone I'm thinking of is the One X, This phone is awesome!! its beautiful! Sense is beautiful!, its also a beast in hardware! but that's the end,
i heard that the battery is poor, its still heavy because the sense 4, the video frame rate is poor, and i even heard on poor performance on NOVA . so it turned me off..
im sorry for the long thread, but my next phone, and my first android phone is very important for me, its going to be my phone for the next 2 years.
Thank you very much XDA (BTW , i searched allot about every phone, but what i need here is personal experience , something that not always objective).
I would recommend checking out HTC. They have very productive, useful devices.

i wrote about the one x!
the one x looks awesome but he got so many flaws and bad disappointments! ): if i wasnt reading so much little bad things about him i was sure he is the one for me but no , there is to many little flaws!
Look up the HTC Inspire. I heard its the best there is.
Sent from my SGH-T759 using xda app-developers app
looks lame !
its look old and weak !
another suggestions?
So right now there's 3 phones you have your eyes on, but still open to suggestions.
I would suggest the Galaxy S III if you are looking for a phone for two years.
Galaxy Nexus is a very wonderful phone. Best selling point would be that its fast to get updates, but hardware is already dated since its been released over half a year ago.
HTC One X is beautiful, but that's all. Its beautiful, but doesn't really have any other features that would put it above the Galaxy S III. I see the One X as a device that's an improvement over the Galaxy Nexus in terms of speed and power, but nothing spectacular.
Galaxy S III on the other hand is comparable to the One X in terms of speed and most likely surpassing it in that field too. Beyond that, there are many other features that are equal to the One X and has quite a few features that the One X does not have.
I vote for the S III mainly because it offers more in terms of hardware and software.
I think Samsung Galaxy SIII or Nexus. Or wait for HTC One XXL.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Varience,
thanks for your helpful comment! you summarized the subject pretty good , i think i choose the SIII over the others, because he is the combination between good hardware and allot of Roms (im sure he will get allot of roms).
to ServeTT the HTC One XXL sound really good on paper !!! (but so do the one x)
when will he come out ?
the phone i really want, is the next nexus, all the benefits of the current awesome nexus plus hardware that last 2 years and not one thats already is old
I am quite against buying HTC devices. They don't support our development community and sense is hideous and slow. The only thing I like is their build quality ..
I would get a Samsung galaxy s3, touchwiz 5 jellybean and ics actually looks pretty good!. There buold quality is better for the s3, Plus Sammy supports our development
But over all I love the galaxy nexus phones the best cause they look so good and are pure . But maybe wait for the new nexus to come out, it will be the best phone in hardware and software. And will get all updates.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
HTC One X - OUT - by reading, its beautiful and thats it, its close, and not as good as others..
S3 or the next Nexus , That is the question!
When the next nexus predicted to be released ?
if more than month (that is almost sure thing),
i think it will be the S3, its the strongest hardware, and its development community have to be great!, thanks you all !

help me decide nexus or s3

Hey guys I am up for a replacement on 8/20. I can't decide to get the s3 or the nexus
The s3 has so many features I love over the nexus.better battery life, bigger screen, more ram and a better processor.but the nexus has jellybean already.maybe some members who previously had a nexus can chime in and tell their personal opinion about the phones that would be awesome.thanks guys
Nexus or Sgs 3 and you thinkng??
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
If you are aware for all of these advanteages, than why are you even asking?
It seems like you already know the answer
bottom line WHY GET AN OLD PHONE???
S3 is newer.....cant wait for the Note 2. that will be my next new toy.
I have both the Nexus and S3.
I haven't got around to putting on Jellybean on the Nexus yet.
The S3 feels better in your hand and runs smoother, thanks to the better CPU. The bigger screen is certainly better and doesn't feel awkward either.
The notification light on the S3 is much brighter and more vivid than on the Nexus.
You will also notice how much lighter and thinner the S3 is to the Nexus.
The MicroSD port in the S3 is a nice addition too, something which the Nexus doesn't have.
TouchWiz isn't that bad either and it doesn't seem to slow down the S3.
The only bad thing about the S3 is that the back cover, once removed is actually a bit flimsy. But once its on the main unit, the S3 device as a whole seems to be good quality. Not metal, but not cheap plastic either.
All in all the S3 is a generation ahead of the Nexus, no question about it.
I'm not the biggest Samsung fan, however, if the S3 has all that over the Nexus, I'd certainly go for the Sammy. The Android OS will/can be changed/updated by rooting it. That would give you all the benefits of the better hardware combined w/better roms anyway. If HTC is out of the running, Moto has nothing to offer (american made) and Nexus is that dated then my vote is the S3.
That said, I can't wait to get rid of my kindle fire for the new nexus tablet, that thing is the ****
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
If your using an upgrade get the S3 and worst case trade for nexus + cash. If your buying outright consider value for price/performance ratio... ie: nexus ~$300 vs gs3 ~$600 is the gs3 worth almost double? Is it almost twice as good?
Don't get me wrong I love the gs3 lasts all day does it all, has a micro SD, no direct updates/vanilla experience yet AND its quite a bit more.. I could easily have a nexus + nexus 7 vs my 1 gs3....
Just something to consider

I am in the same boat, dude.
No microSD card on the Nexus is actually a deal breaker for me. Gorilla glass is a necessity - i hate scratch phones. Sound quality for me is a priority and SIII wins hands down.
Thoughts for SIII:
- SD card
- Wolfson DAC
- BT apt-x
- gorilla glass
- better camera
- quad core
Well, the advantages of Nexus:
- price (around £120 less in this country)
- it is google = no bloat, good support, speedy updates
I think the wise decision would be go for SIII when the price drops a little (after iPhoney 5 is introduced)
Thanks guys I am 99 percent going with the s3. I just didn't want to be in same boat so am in right now with this thunderbolt.because of ril issues the t-bolt is still stuck in gingerbread.don't get me wrong the t-bolt has amazing devs.but htc sucks with updating.the phone. I see there is a port for JB already for the s3 but I fear it will be a dead project like all the t-bolt ICS
Roms. This is definitely my last HTC product.

I hope I'm not misunderstanding you but you have NO reason to fear Jellybean becoming a dead project on the S3. Maybe that specific thread will die, but there absolutely will be Jellybean roms for the S3. Many I'm guessing. Just give it a month or two.

Yes that was my fear. the ICS roms on the t-bolt have been in limbo for months now. I am a flash-a-holic and i wanted to make sure this device would be cool. I would love to see a 100% working port of the release for the nexus on this phone. I am dying to check out the new google search feature. blow my i-freak freinds out of the water . they think siri is good wait till they see this.

What made you pick the S3 over the competition?

Hey guys/gals,
I'm literally counting the days til my upgrade, however with phones like the One X and a few others which i can't think of off the top of my head. Rather than asking VS. questions which will be answered by biased views or perhaps answers which don't answer the why i'll ask it like this.
What was the feature that made you buy the phone over the other phones on the market, what is your favourite feature which made the phone a defo puchase?
Thanks to all that answer this for me.
Mainly the processor, big ass screen and clearly the brand Samsung. HTC are good but from past experience I know that what they seem to offer is not always what they actually have to offer. Other phones are just out of the question, like nokia pure view since I would rather buy a camera than buy that phone (though I already have a DSLR so I don't need one). And to be honest I normally pick phones right away and then find everything there is to know about them. I just told myself that now is the time and this is the phone I want to buy.

- Huge community with lots of ROM's and customizations
- Large AMOLED screen (only had good experiences so far)
- Cool addon features such as Smart Stay
- Perfect USB OTG support
- Large battery
- Samsung-branded. (No issue with their devices so far)
- Powerful 4core SoC
Thanks for the input so far guys, its not a case I'm doubting the s3 but I'll probably get lumbered with a 24month contract and I don't want to miss out on another phone due to blindly buying the s3
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
If I had a Galaxy Nexus as your signature suggests I would have skipped the S3, I don't think the incremental benefits merit a 24 month tie in. Or you could upgrade now and when the next gen handsets are released your S3 and GN should raise enough to buy whatever tickles your fancy.
For me it was the SD card slot and removable battery. Also I was concerned about all of the screen scratch talk with the one X.
On AT&T, the One X looks to be the better performer but couldn't get past the issues above.

Because the One X is inexcuseably flawed with the lack of replaceable battery and memory slot and traditionally rubbish battery life, and even though the S3 is also flawed most of it is just software problems that can be bodged up after the fact.
SIII doesn't have any serious competition imho. It is the best phone in the market at the moment hands down. If only my other decisions in life are that easy

I totally agree. Especially the fact that the nexus is about to get jelly bean, it's gonna be a brand new phone. Yes the S3 is the best phone out right now ( in my opinion) but the nexus is also fantastic and I miss that phone sometimes.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
To be honest I believe that there soon won't be a device (including Samsung) that will be let's say 2 or 3 times faster, better, etc. that the SIII. Quad core processors came out now so next year probably they will continue to distribute them. Plus custom roms or the SIII will get better, these guys at xda do a better job than any company out there, they are users that make upgrades for users and know what we exactly need. Software is never an issue it can always be upgraded, modified unlike hardware that is something that is hard to replace in a phone. So when I look for a phone I mainly look at the hardware, for the hidden potential of the phone. And to be honest Samsung SIII is the fastest phone currently on the market and we all know well that it has the most juice in it.

The Nexus always gets the latest OS first but as soon as the Galaxy S's get upgraded you just get stuck with a phone that's always worse than the equivalent Galaxy S, and I'd never buy a phone just to get an OS a few months early because I'd quickly realise the mistake I made.

+1. If you have a Nexus already, I agree that it will feel like a new phone with JellyBean on it.
I am still getting the S3 though. I will be new to Android so will have a bit of learning to do, and JellyBean is supposed to be coming to the S3 in Q4, so by then I'll be ready for it and I think it will make the S3 super-super-swishy (from the mere super-swishy it is now).
For me, replaceable batteries & memory cards are a must, so that basically blew many other phones out of the picture. Good camera, USB OTG, MHL-ing to use it as a games console, proper HD screen, good battery - all of these things sold it too me.
No iThings for me. I don't want to get tied into any restrictive iContract with iEULA, not shackled to iTunes, titchy screen, etc etc.
I was happy with my Windows HTC HD2 (before I bricked it). Hoping buying a Samsung flagship model on Android (with the massive user group that's gathering behind it and seemingly fast updates OTA from Sammy) will mean this phone will function well out of the box, and function amazeballs with a few custom tweaks & mods.
Hopefully I will get my UK blue this week :cyclops::victory:
Screen size and speed
Already running Jellybean, but like people have said you can change Software you can't change hardware and one thing i do miss is the S2 camera I had, so the Samera on the S3 is one of my big reasons.
Thanks to everyone who has posted so far.
What competition?
My last phone was an HTC Desire, and since I was displeased with the HTC Sense UI, I just decided that my next phone would be a Samsung. And the S III just happened to be the best phone out there.
hox has too weak battery in my case, so its a no-competition thing actually
next close to perfect phone is still good old i9000
The hype about it - I figured that with all the talk there would be loads of custom roms developed for the phone. I signed up for a two year contract and I wanted a phone that could last two years which this should do well with that processor. Had a Nexus S before and considered buying a Galaxy Nexus, but 16GB internal and no option for external SD just didn't appeal to me.

upgrade soon... what phone is best right now?

I have an upgrade coming soon so I came here to ask everyone's opinion on which phone they have or seen that runs good, have good battery life, etc. Basically what's best on the market right now? I have sprint.

Just what you prefer.
I suggest you go to a phonestore and play around with some devices because everyone's opinion is different. Some will say you have to buy Sony, others will say you need Samsung, htc, etc...
Choose what you like the most yourself, and don't go by other people opinions.

Well, TiesB basically said what I also would suggest. Go to phonestores and take a closer look to the phones which have drawn your attention.
The good thing about Android is that there are many phones with different hardware. Everyone has different preferences. Look at your own preferences and take the phone which matches most.

I have four options for you:
1) Samsung Galaxy S3 (Too mainstream for me. Great phone anyway)
2) Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (If you are okay with the extra large screen, its a winner in term of specs, raw power, battery life)
3) HTC One X+ or XL (not sure if its available on the US yet)
4) Sony Xperia T (Sony's flagship device. Pretty nice IMO.)
With either of these, you will be satisfied. I have noted that there is a current trend of devs moving to Xperia devices, mostly because seems like Sony is making great phones lately and they are becoming dev-friendly. Just my .02
How much budget do you have? If you are going for high end phone, I think you should buy the new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 as it performs well and has satisfying battery life...If you don't like the gigantic 5.5 inch screen, then your second choice should be Iphone 5 or Galaxy S3...These are my recommendations, hope they help :victory:
All nice choices. I wish note 2 had NFC though.

Thanks all! I think I am going to go with the s3 because I heard it had best battery life for a phone that can do so much, and I heard so much positive things about it, I think I will have to try it. Thanks for everyone opinions though!

A phone is a personal phenomenon , something which i like may not appeal to some other person !! Though going by my personal experience i will definitely suggest S3 , great phone from every aspect including the price nowadays (S3 prices have come down by atleast 80 to 100 $) !!

How great is this phone?

Hey guys, my contract expires in a month and I am looking at a couple of new phones to buy. I currently own a Droid Incredible, and I absolutely love it. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it has poor battery life, and it's kind of slow. Things that I do like about it are that I have a plethora of roms to choose from and it has great development support. Some phones that I am looking to buy are the Droid Razr Maxx HD, Samsung Galaxy S3, and the Google Nexus. Can you tell me about the pros and cons of the S3? How is the developer support for this phone? I appreciate any help!
Developer support isn't the worst but it isn't the best, the Exynos 4412 is Faster than it needs to be, don't go for a Snapdragon S4 Quad just because its faster... the differences are minimal.
If I was you I would get the Nexus 4 over the Galaxy Nexus if you were to get a Nexus device.
Cons:
Not much.

everything is great with this phone, developer community, xda support community is good, frequency of software updates from samsung is also good compared to other OEMs at the moment...overall phone experience is excellent and you will not be disappointed...however, sgs3 suffers from two issues...
1) stock Contacts & Phone App lags, takes 3-4 seconds to open for the first time and will not stay in memory for a long time for fast opening..this sucks...work around is avaliable like Exdialer app from play store or Jkay mod for SGS3 to keep contacts and dialer app in memory always.
2) heavy apps installed from market cannot be moved into external memory (memory stick)...work around available though I guess..!
If you are comfortable flashing a custom rom, kernel or mods, then it's a wonderful phone.
Stock experience is good but has some shortcomings like mentioned before.
Overall, I think it's the most balanced device right now. Removable battery and micro sd slot surely give it an edge and it's not as large as a Note.
Xperia Z would be also a great choice if you decide to wait. Seems that it would be a better choice IF you can wait a month or two.

@TheCraig: what do you mean it isn't the best? Like, the dev support for the droid incredible is great. The phone is 3 years old but we still have about 5 jelly bean roms, and 2 4.2 unofficial nightly roms which is great!
@gchindi: well, i am not too worried about the contacts and phone apks taking a while to load. and how big apk files are we talking about?
@drakester09: yeah, i am addicted to flashing. I have a gtab 2 so i'm familiar with the rooting process for samsung devices as well. i don't like the stock interface too much. i can't stand touchwiz for some reason lol.
thanks for your help guys. can one of you upload a screenshot of your battery usage graphs too? just for comparison with my battery life. i'd greatly appreciate that.

@TheCraig: what do you mean it isn't the best? Like, the dev support for the droid incredible is great. The phone is 3 years old but we still have about 5 jelly bean roms, and 2 4.2 unofficial nightly roms which is great!

haha let me clarify. i was telling him what the dev support is like on the dinc so that he could compare it to the dev support on the gs3.
oh, I got you.

I meant to say the dev support for the Galaxy S3, which isn't massively impressive compared to the Nexus, but that's expected as AOSP is made for Nexus.

It's has great hardware but horrible software specially Ram Management.
For example, you wanna enjoy some tracks while browsing web ?
Forget it, the songs start to shutter .

Easily fixed with a new kernel or ROM.
Worst thing about Samsung bloatware, but that isn't as bad with the I9305 and its 2G ram.
I'd wait for the SGS4!
LG, Lucky Goldstar anything but...

Yeah, I'd hold off for a few months if you can - get a discount off your monthly bill from your service provider, save that money, then pull the trigger on a brand new S4 when that comes out. S3 is a great phone, and there's nothing else I'd rather have at the moment (except maybe the i9305 with more RAM, although a much weaker dev scene). But with the S4 release within spitting distance now, you'd be mad not to wait. Unless cost is an issue, in which case I'd still say wait, cos the S3 will drop in price quite a bit when the S4 is released. Might as well get yourself synced up with the Galaxy S release cycle now, cos once you have one you're unlikely to want to go elsewhere. I did buy myself a Nexus 4 when that came out, but the only benefits that had was the software (if you're into vanilla Android) and two gigs of RAM. EVERYTHING else was inferior to my S3, so I ended up sending the N4 back.

i was thinking about waiting for the s4 but i don't know when exactly it will come out. regardless, i probably won't buy it since i personally think that it might be too over powered and the battery life will take a hit, but hey, you never know. you're right about the S3's cost dropping though. i was looking at the nexus 4, but the no microSD card
(at least that's what i've read) was a complete turn off for me.
40 million S3 units sold, having come from HTC I can see why just on the quality of components Samsung uses in it's phones. I had a choice between the new nexus and the S3, the removable battery and sd card sold it for me but I'm very impressed by how well the software works. All my phones up to now had AOSP, this is the first that has ( albeit a stripped down version) a stock ROM onboard after three months use.

Yeah the s3 is pretty great. I've played around with it and I really like it. Is the battery life good with touchwiz or is it better with cm10.1?

Its all about choice. I have a nexus 7 which is a bigger version of the Google nexus in theory. Do you mean Google nexus or the nexus 4? I have to say that I love the jelly bean on the nexus and especially the user interface which I think is very simple to use on my nexus7. The RAZR maxx has the best battery life out of any phone I have seen on the market. My friend has one and funnily enough I have a s3. The s3 is brilliant you can really feel and see the quality Samsung put into making their phones. I came from HTC myself after having alot of issues with the one x . I would recommend either the nexus 4, simply because of the software and easy access and the s3 because of the removable battery and SD card which is what made me go for the s3 rather than the nexus

I highly doubt this will be the case - the battery life will be no worse than the S3 (most likely better). Chances are it will have a bigger battery as well as a better CPU (which will have better power management). The possibly larger screen and 1080P will obviously have a negative effect. This is obviously basing off rumour specs (and no one will really know until the phone is released), though point is, just because the phone is more powerful doesn't mean the battery life will be worse. The S3 is more powerful than the S2, though has better battery life (for me anyways).

Yeah, the Nexus 4. What was wrong with your One X? But yeah, I think I'm going to go with the S3. It has a lot of roms (so that beats out the raxr) and it has a micro SD(beating put the Nexus). Having a rooted droid incredible has kind of made those two things a necessity for me.
