Not sure if this is a jellybean bug. Sense 4 bug or just a problem with HTC Watch but this started after the jb update.
I have watched many movies on my evo lte using my mhl adapter but now I have run out of phone storage. Never happened before. So I wiped phone storage. Today I had 125 megs used. Downloaded sherlock homes 2 and watched it. After wards I checked storage and as expected its now 1.4gb used. Went into HTC Watch and deleted the downloaded copy and checked storage. No change. Decoded to download again and stopped it half way thru. Checked storage now up to 2.25gb. Go to HTC Watch and delete downloaded copy. Waited a few minutes and phone storage still at 2.25gb.
This isn't good. I like to check watch for their weekly 66 cent specials.
Troubleshooting.
I cleared cache and settings for HTC Watch.
Logged back in. No changes.
Any suggestions?

so you cleared data from Watch but the movies are still there? did you force stop it also? another thing to do is to clear the cache partition from recovery.
Try backing up all of your sd card data and format it threw your pc and restore factory defaults. Sometimes the phone format fails to work as it should. See if that helps at all.
\Root-Hack_Mod*Always=LTE
Its not on my SD card. its on the phone storage.
Going to try a few other things and see if its an app issue after the JB update.
If your rooted. Try wiping the internal sd threw. recovery.
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\=LTE
Stock, non rooted.
You should think about rooting if its an option for you. Your options are very limited "imo" without root. You can always unroot once/if you solve your issue. Root isn't a 100% fix for your issue but it does give you more control over your device in situations such as these. You can also try a quick google search to find out if there is a website that htc has for the users that have an watch account to see if there is any settings there you can edit to solve the issue if you haven't solved it already.
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\=LTE
After further testing its a bug in the app its self.
Scenario is like this. When you rent a movie form HTC Watch you have 30 days to download it and watch it.
When you choose to watch it you then have 24 hours to finish watching it before the license is invalid and you can not watch it anymore.
In the past (4.0.4) i would download and watch, then after im done watching immediately delete the movie. This removed it from internal storage.
After 4.1.1 update if i do the same thing it does NOT delete the movie from the phone storage.
However, if i watch the movie, then let it reside on my device past the 24 hour rental period, i am prompted with an option to pay to rent it again OR remove it from my list.
Once i select to remove it from my list it will then delete the downloaded copy.
So to me thats a bug in the app that is occuring now after the 4.1.1 update.
Im headed on over to HTCs site to write them..

Am I the only one who has received this message when trying to start Avatar?
+1 me too, looks like tmo didnt spring for the unlimited license for it. Just what, 30 days?

It's a known issue, occasionally it happens. The only current solve is to do a master reset. If you're rooted, a nandroid restore may work too.
hmm weird i got my vibrant on release day and just watched half of Avatar today on it. but ive been flashing roms here and there would that have something to do with it?
avatar doesn't expire
Samsung sez avatar doesn't expire.
Google "vibrant avatar expire". it's like the second link.
I had this happen on my replacement phone. I think it was because I restored everything via Titanium Backup so the DRM settings were changed.
Either way I did a factory reset and the movie now plays. Guess I won't restore DRM this time. Somewhat of a hassle for just a movie on a 4 inch screen.

Lol, the first thing I did was delete Avatar .. I mean... seriously, it's not essential to the operation of the phone, once you've seen it you've seen it. Must make room for the pr0n... oh wait, Allshare means I don't have to do that either... hmm...
Glad you got it working though
If you stopped the DRM service from running, you need to turn it back on.
I had stopped the service and had to reboot my phone then Avatar played.
What I did was:
Move avatar to internal memory
Unmount sd card
Format sd card
Move avatar back to sd card
Reboot phone
Done

ok thunderbolt wont find my photos or music on the sdcard after root. they are still there checked with root explorer. any idea how to get them back??
Restart to see if the scanner will find them. If not, just install quickpic. It's a thousand times better than the stock gallery.

I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago. It happened about two weeks after I had rooted. I was not a happy camper and tried to reformat the card (after copying the contents to my PC) and that didn't work. I did put in the SD card from my OG Droid, copied the contents and voila - the pics showed up in the Gallery and the music in the player.
I went to my sales guy at the Verizon store and he told me to just call Sandisk and they would replace it. Just before I did that, I reformatted the disk, partitioned it and tried one more time to copy the files. To my surprise, everything is working great.
I know it is a hassle, but worth the try.
Good luck...
Download an app from the Market called SDrescan
Ive noticed for whatever reason sometimes the phone will not scan the sd card on its own.
Try that out it worked for me. Every Once in a Blue Moon Now I have to run it to get some pics /and/or any media for that matter to show up.
First time happened was back in about a month ago. One day I noticed some of my pictures were gone ( may be 15 to 20 of them ) I could not find them in any where such as SD card internal/external the strange thing was some pictures still there until today so the defective SD card is ruled out and I was still using the stock firmware 2.3.3 then I also noticed there are other pictures ( almost 100 of them ) not actual pictures they just blank but all with different file names like: My piano, A day in Hollywood etc, etc.
No body has been messing up my phones because it stays with me at all times. The question is who deleted my pictures and put a bunch of files back? Could it be happened remotely like some one using Bluetooth to mess around if the person is happened to be near by? later on I upgraded my phone to 2.3.4 through KIES and hope it will help me to solve the mystery but it did not. By now I know those pictures are long gone...
Two or three days later I upgraded my phone to 2.3.5 until I found the official FW XWKL1 here in XDA, again, upgraded.
So some days later I decided to change song for my ringtone I found out all of them have been replaced by some files with number names. 41203,41204 the list go on...When I use Astro to look for my songs and they are all there ( inside the music folder ) I went back & click one of the number file to see what kind of song and the player pops up a message saying the file format is not supported. It took me almost 30 min to figure out and delete all the number files under MUSIC then I see all my songs back.
My question is has my phone been hacked or infected by viruses/spyware? Or software glitch? I don't have data plan. To go online I use my home wifi all the time.
If some one can help I'll be really appreciated.
Sounds like a problem with the sd card or phone itself.

But most of the pictures and songs are still there that was why I think the problem is not in SD card other than these problems the phone is functioning good in all aspect.
Highly doubt someones in ur phone.

Sounds like the card is corrupted. Just make a backup of everything on the card, and do a full format (not quick format) of it from your computer. That should fix it. I had a similar problem too recently. New files I transferred would get deleted and old deleted files would reappear. Maybe the file table is messed or something, I don't know, but a full format fixed it for me.
Note: Preferably use a card reader, or if you mount it as mass storage from your phone, do it from recovery if you're rooted. Otherwise just mount it as you would normally and proceed.

I had the same problem.
I had the same problem.
The solution was format SD card , after Back up some things i wanted from the card.
My music is currently saved on my external SD card. Every time I restart my phone, my music does not show up in the Google music app. I have to uninstall then reinstall the app for it to show in the app again. Does any one know why this happens and how I can fix it? I'm rooted but locked.

I have this same problem all i do is go to app settings and clear the apps data and force stop. Works for me but i don't think there is a fix.
I highly doubt this is a fix, but do you have download songs wifi only checked? When I unchecked that all my songs were deleted a couple of times. But after a while it started to work again. I dunno but you might want to try changing that and seeing if it fixes it

This is what pissed me off most about this phone.
Solution:
everyones best bet is to do the sd card mount swap.
if u didn't root, this is the biggest reason to. This switches the places of the 10 GB phone storage and your sd card. there are 2 threads about this in our development section. Find my post in either one of the threads and follow the directions.
I am even now so sick of the sd card not getting mounted on boot. But oh well cause I only use that 10 GB for ps1 games now. I decided to fill it with the most useless, replaceable files that took up a lot of space on the sd card.how they partitioned, and handled storage space on this phone is HORRIBLE.
This is the best solution, but u are still going to end up dealing with the 10 GB of space not mounting almost every time u start the phone. But u can just go remount it in settings. And I almost never have to do that cause I filled the space with ps1 games and only have to mount it when I play fpse.
Everything I just said is all over the place but go find the threads in development, I wrote everything much clearer.

I have an HTC Sensation running CM10. The very day I installed the CM10 ROM this problem started, I get an error saying " Storage space running out. Some functions may not work". I can clear the data and everything works fine until the next time it happens. Some days it happens 2 or 3 times a day. As far as I can tell, this is not a common problem.
The only thing I can think is that it may have something to do with my BackCountry Navigator app. It has lots of aerial photographs. I suspect that it is trying to catalog them all. But, 700MB seems excessive. I have been trying to locate this large file or files to see analyze the data, but I'm not sure where they are located.
Anyone willing to help me tackle this problem?

If you figure the average picture is approximately 1MB in size, and ariel photographs are usually very detailed most likey 2MB (Or greater in some cases) it's not unrealistic for 350-700+ pictures to be cached by the app as you use it to navigate and view maps. Even navigating a small area with that level of detailed images will occur a large size cache quickly, which is likely why it sometimes fills up 2-3 times a day. I would recommend going into system settings, then application manager, and locating BackCountry Navigator then clear the apps cache. Also check the apps settings and see if it has any options for disabling image caching or limiting the cache size.

OK I cleared the cache which was less than 1MB. I also turned off caching. Cross your fingers.

Unfortunately, that didn't work. If I could find the actual file or files that were using up the remaining 706MB of my phone, I might be able to figure out what was going wrong.

Try using root explorer or a similar root enabled file browser to go to the application data folder then look for the BackCountry Navigator app's data folder and see what files you can find, you may find some hints as to why the application is using so much storage space.
Did you ever get this sorted out? I have the same problem. Sold my last phone due to this problem. It definitely has something to do with BCN. Is there a way to tell the phone not to catalog that folder?
BTW I'm running it on an S3.
I'm having the same issue on my EVO LTE, running Viper ROM so it happens on Sense too. Either I get a notification to move apps because I'm out of space, or I'll get an install error when trying to update apps. It's always Media Storage is huge, I can clear it but then sometimes my Music Files don't get recognized by players even though I can see them in a file explorer. Very frustrating.

I saw the same thing as your 'Disk Usage' thumbnail above, except the path was "Storage card -> Apps -> Media Storage -> Data", and it was using 3GB (out of 5.8GB total internal capacity available to end-users). Clicking on 'Media Storage' and clicking 'Show' brought me to the 'Amazon Fire Media Storage' app (a system app, the logo being 'Fire' in a red square).
After clearing all the 'Media Storage' app data, it got regenerated to 3.7GB after a couple hours and filled up my internal storage again. I then deleted an ebook reader app that I remember installing a couple days ago, and it automatically shrunk to 300MB shortly afterwards without my manually clearing the 'Media Storage' app data. About an hour after that, though, it regenerated back to 3.7GB and filled up my storage again.
Anyone know what files are consulted to populate this Media Storage/Data file (i.e., video, audio, ebooks), what process/processes populate it, and what reads it? It would be really helpful to examine its contents to at least look for a rough idea on which apps are using it heavily, and/or honoring '.nomedia' to prevent scanning.
