Am I crazy or is the Samsung Keyboard garbage? It does word prediction but doesn't auto correct... WTF?!?! Or am I missing something here?

Nothing in there for auto correct... I just downloaded the Jelly Bean 4.2 Keyboard but now I don't have my numbers on the keyboards "Home"
Your not crazy my friend. Mine wont auto correct either. Setting are set for predictive text but like u said it doesnt actually apply the correction.

Yel its annoying that there isnt a numbers row but I've got used to long processing the top row in which the alpha characters are shared with numbers.
Its not bad once you get used to it

I downloaded perfect keyboard to get autocorrect back but then you lose the ability to use the pen for input
This is pretty crappy on samsung's behalf. A keyboard without autocorrect?

intelinside83 was referring to the lack of a number row on the stock Android 4.2 keyboard. The stock Samsung keyboard is quite different, including the inclusion of the number row.

This really is quite silly of Samsung. The keyboard has auto prediction and in my experience the auto prediction works quite well. The problem is that the keyboard will only input what you actually type regardless of whether or not it's correct. If you want to enter a predicted word you have to tap it yourself. I can't imagine it would be too difficult for Samsung to change the keyboard to favor the top predicted word, which would essentially be auto correct.
I'm still using the Samsung keyboard though because I'm getting along with the Swiftkey flow integration rather nicely.

I'm actually really happy for the number row since I use numbers frequently and it was a pain having to constantly toggle it on/off. And, that auto-correction is disabled as I usually disable it any. Just had to turn off auto-spacing and auto-capitalization because it was wreaking havoc on authenticating into web sites like this one as it was adding a space in-between my password. Good riddance I say...

It is reported that upcoming 4.1.2 (not 4.2) enhancements will include integrated "swyping" functionality into the keyboard so it wouldnt make sense for them not to rectify the autocorrection issue.

Did the stock Sammy JB keyboard in the GS3 have no autocorrect either? Or does that phone still run ICS?
I might just have to switch to Swiftkey or Thumb Keyboard again - but that number row is GREAT - it is hard to turn away from it.
Yeah I went back to the stock samsung keyboard just cuz of the numbers... silly but I'm loving it! Just hooing for auto-correction. Maybe if they dont fix it someone will come out with a 3rd party with numbers!
Tappin from my Marble White Note II
Yup, no autocorrect. I'm using Swiftkey now.
It seems the Samsung keyboard is actually a variation of the swiftkey flow. I wonder if it's something to do with that. The flow part works pretty well and I love the number row

Mine auto spaces when I use swype.
The auto-spacing only half works.
The critical thing to do to get some auto-spacing is to write multiple words out on one line. You won't fit much, maybe 2-3 at the very most, but it will auto space these.
Trying to do one word at a time and letting it clear the screen, doesn't auto-space at all. Very annoying for sure.

This makes no sense at all, it's so counterintuitive. I thought for sure I was missing a section.
As stated above all words written on the screen at a time will auto space but when the screen clears you have to space. What I have found easier than hitting the space bar though, is ate the screen clears you can "write" the space by writing a very short left to right dash.

I believe that you need to draw a - and that's the way to tell it put space. .

Unless i'm also missing something, when i use the pen with swiftkey flow enabled for handwriting recognition.
Everytime I write a word, let it recognize and start a new word it does NOT auto space.
Hope this is just a setting I missed or something??
Or are you just talking about drawing from letter to letter on the keyboard, just with the pen?

Swiftkey flow is swype so I thought that is what you meant. Let me test handwritten.
So, I figured it out. You have to write until thee is no more room on the pad then you let it recognize the text you have written. Once it does that, write a small dash (left to right) and that will make a space. you can then repeat the process. Hope this helps. Writing like this is pretty fun.

Yea, that is how i have been doing it too, i just wish it would auto space itself. On a screen this big i don't see the advantage of having the default be to continue the current word, rather than start a new one. Guess i'll just be training myself to space, just hard to remember.
I sent random texts to my girlfriend all night long just playing with the handwriting. Works really well too!
Thanks again.

Swiftkey is where it's at. I've tried every other keyboard for Android that I could find, none of them seem to function as well or as smooth.
Now that we have root, does anyone know how to install the MOD we had for the SG3 where it would add on screen soft keys and make the home button ONLY wake up the phone. It would also disable the capacitive buttons....I miss this so much...absolutely hate the Samsung home button.
Thanks ahead of time!!

seriously. please do us all a favor and get a different phone so we don't have to deal with you.
anyway. i wasn't really happy with the way this looked or worked so I went back. But if tweaked it could look / function better. It changed it so that if you hold the home button on screen and physical you get S-Voice. The on screen nav was really big also and the page indicators were covered by icons. It just looked and felt sloppy and there was no way to customize anything obviously.

Only thing I don't like is this kind of messes with the dialer DPI, and now the top of recent calls and favorites is being cut off by a big block of blue.
Edit: On Bean's new ROM, the top names are still covered, but the "blue" block is now transparent stuff just a blue border, so the names are now visible, but you can only touch the part of the name that sticks out from the bottom of the block. This is definitely more manageable though.

I think it requires recompiling the framework for that toggle inside settings/display. Little more then copy/paste. But possible.
