What is my model/version of my S3? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello everybody,
i'm just buy a Galaxy SIII (on website topachat)
normally, he's "nude" but on the box they write "Orange France"
i test with a SFR or FREE and i can call but i want to know what is the real model of this fone
When i try to connect my S3 on Kies , i can't upgrade it :
"votre peripherique ne prend pas en charge la mise a niveau du logiciel via Kies
version actuelle du micrologiciel: PDA:LJ1 / Phone: LID / CSC: LJ1 (FTM).
So, when i do *#1234# on the fone i see that:
AP :I9300XXDLJ1
CP: I9300XXDLID
CSC: I9300OJVDLJ1
What can i do? somebody can explain me what's happen?
Thanks a lot.

Then about phone all the way at the bottom,

I derivate from the error message that your phone has been blocked from being updated through Kies.
Most probably your carrier only wants pre-approved OTA updates to be available to your device.
It's quite simple to bypass that restriction; just flash the ROM from samfirmware.com and you have a untouched official ROM, not some carrier-broken stuff.
Should you feel like it, you can of course also flash aftermarked custom firmwares with root such as Wanamlite or Omega.

Thanks for your answer.
but i dont understand one thing. i buy the fone "nude".
i don't buy the fone with carrier / operator . But why when i watch the information from my fone , they write FTM (Orange France)
very strange....

Try factory resetting the phone. I had that problem with kies too and solve by factory reset. Everything will be erased though.

You can use a XEU Firmware or the O2 UK Firmware, check the Firmware-Thread here in the Forum =>
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
I also have the same problem. I have bought my phone in Switzerland and live in France. I bought my phone on my own (it is not included in any contracts). Can I just take XWKJ2 Firmware from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
and tick PDA, Phone and CSC in Odin to reset my phone and have it working with Kies?
Easiest way is use an app called "checkfus" from the market. It's free.
Basically checkfus can search the same servers as kies does and find the latest firmware available from your carrier.
Then go to intratechs official carrier firmware thread and download the version that checkfus told you was the latest for your carrier.
Flash this via Odin following intratechs instructions.
Use a USB jig to get rid of any flash counter. Sets it to official firmware with 0 flash counter.
If you want at this stage you can do a wipe if you don't want any data on your phone.
At this point your phone will be as if you just unboxed it. kies should work and everything.
Hope this helps.

I have the same question for my I9300 / Galaxy S3.
I'd like to thank all the people that posted an answer, but point out there is no answer.
I want to know if there is any way for me to find out what my original firmware was. And is there a way for a service center to check if the firmware matches the imei or serial number?
As long as its official Samsung firmware(and probably for your region) what do they care.

Kies has this option build-in. Just select initialize device from menu or something like that, than enter you phone serial number and model name and voila.
It will tell you what original factory firmware was preinstalled and even flash it if you like.

I know my phone is from poland. polish was the default language for my fone. Later my phone got bricked, So I had to flash it. Wen i searched it in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 I saw quite a few firmwares from poland. Tried XXLPQ and XXKI4. But the default language came as English UK . I think I flashed it with wrong firmware. I am confused with which CSC should be used. OXA or XEO .
Is there any chance to find the stock firmware with IMEI and S/N
S/N : RDZB913735Z
can you kindly check for me, wats the official firmware for my phone.
Thanks and Regards.
Allrigt I will check this but don't publish your IMEI here. PM me.
Poland have XEO code. But if phone was branded than it can be operator's code (IDE - Orange, TLP - T-mobile...)

Thanks man,
Now i am sure its XEO , its unbranded, international version, bought from amazon.com
I'm sorry but Kies can not initialize this phone. This could mean that your phone was not branded and you can flash any official XEO firmware if you want to repair it in Sammys Service Center.
You can flash 4.0.4 immidiatelly with Odin or, if you feel that you absolutly must use Kies to upgrade (don't know why) than flash official 4.0.3 (XXLWP) it is stock for XEO region and after that change your CSC by dialing service code *#272*IMEI# (IMEI - your IMEI number). From pop-up menu choose XEO. Phone will be wiped and new CSC will be set. You can check this in 3e recovery (yellow information text at the bottom) or in Kies - there should be (XEO) at the end of the line with current version information. Than you can upgrade to 4.0.4 via Kies or FOTA.

[Q] La Poste Mobile ICS?

I bought an I9100 off of eBay and I thought it would be all fine (because it said it wasn't provider locked) until it boots with some French logo (la poste mobile) and has some French bloatware on it.
This wasn't a problem until I realized today different providers get ICS at different times.
I was wondering when the I9100 with la poste mobiles firmware (or whatever it may be called, I'm extremely new to android) is getting ICS.
Yes, I've googled this intensely and all I found was some reviews of the I9100 in French.
Any help would be much appreciated, and I would provide you with my undying love.
You can apply any firmware you want to any, thus effectively turning your hardware into a phone from any operator.
I don't know if the firmwares replace the booting logo, but there are separate boot logos you can apply.
What is important here is the hardware, and that you already have. Everything else you can freely change using the proper firmware.
about the bloatware (don't you hate them?!), if the phone is rooted, you can easily get rid of it using TitaniumBackup.
If the phone is in French, you can use an appl called "More Locale 2" (available on Google Play) to change the language.
If the phone is indeed an I9100 (and not one of the variants such as i9100g) then you can just flash any suitable ics base (such as lpq or lp7) via odin.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Easy. Just find the rom for your carrier or even an unbranded rom. It will wipe all the old carrier crap and bootlogo.

how to get back on the kies updates track

Hi there,
I have a phone bought an unlocked phone from Romania, and I've tried various roms and kernels for 1 year.
Now I want to sell my phone to a friend, but he wants to have the device being able to be updated through kies (he doesn't want custom roms, stock will do for him)
The problem is that I can't get it to be recognized by Kies.
What are the prerequisites to make a firmware to be recognized by Kies as an official stock rom, and after that to be able to update the phone via Kies?
I've tried different firmwares from sammobile, but didn't get neither to be Kies compatible, so please help me.
Thanks in advance!

first, do u know the firmware u had on ur phone when u bought it. since that would be a very usefull info to proceed
second try downloading a firmware from sammobile pertained to Romania flash the same thro ODIN and see
Unfortunatley not, when I've used the phone for myself, I didn't plan to use Kies ever (useless bloatware) and I've flashed so many kernels and roms that I forgot about
Now I can't get it to be an unlocked international version. I will try right now an Orange firmware from sammobile, but I was wondering...do I need to flash a diffrent CSC or stuff like that? I don't know at what Kies looks to validate a phone being eligible for update or not.

its the CSC which makes the diff, when KIES tries to recognise the phone
so after flashing any stock rom u can always change the CSC pertained to ur region, so that u will not have issues with KIES
I've flashed an Orange Romania firmware and the *#1234# command returns this:
PDA: I9100BVLPB
PHONE: I91000BVLPB
CSC: unknown
How can I get the correct CSC for Orange Romania? I've understand that its code is named ORO.
Help on this is really appreciated

After reading and trying diffrent firmwares flashed with Odin, I've found that all the files that I've needed pda, kernel, csc were inside the damn filme I've downloaded from sammobile Luckly I also had a linux virtual machine to cread some separate flashable odin packages for each component, pda, kernel and csc. I've learned this from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082288
Hope this info helps others in my previous situation
Now the phone is recognized by Kies and just updated to the latest firmware available for ORA (although a few reboots and wipe were needed before Kies actually recognized this device)

The reason why kies is not recognising your device is because the CSC code is unknown.
Use this app to change the CSC code to your country/region : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manniakk.cscselector&hl=en
Note that the process will wipe your phone so please backup your important data.

branded s3 i9300

hi,
i have a branded s3 i9300 on sfr france that i unbranded on a mobile shop ,but now i update the s3 from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 via kies and the s3 return branded, after some search on forum i found that i need only to flash an international stock-rom via odin .
now my question is :
1- will my date get lost (photo+apps+contact+video.....) ?
2- do i still have the samuing update?
3-will it be some network problems?
thanks.
sorry for my bad english .
Go to Sam mobile/checkfus and download the undranded version for your country.
As long as you DON'T do a wipe/factory reset at any point flash with odin and you will keep all your apps ect.
Make a back up just in case something does go wrong.

[Q] Want to install basic stock ROM to replace SFR operator ROM

Hi all,
I just got my brand new I-9305 Galaxy SIII phone from SFR (a French operator) and I want to replace the operator installed ROM with the basic, standard Samsung ROM. I tried using Kies to do so (the official Samsung PC app) but it only proposes to install my operator's ROM.
So before jumping in and doing this manually I wanted to know what I should be careful about? I know there are different makes for the SIII and I was wondering how to know which make mine is. I also read about a flash counter, what is it and should I worry about it? Where can I get the official standard vanilla out of the box ROM for my phone and how can I install it? I don't want to root or sim unlock (but I don't want to completely block those options either).
This is not my first phone flashing (but I'm not an expert either) although I'm a total Smasung n00b.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I just have one more question: to get the frimware on the sammobile site, I have to provide the name of my carrier, why is it needed? Isn't the stock ROM supposed to be carrier nidependent?
And another question (guess I had two questions ) On the XDA Odin page, there's a disclaimer about "may increase your ODIN flash count." what is that all about?
Thanks again for your help.

Have to inform the country/carrier to get the ROM on sam's site. How can I get the stock ROM? Should I choose "Unknown - DNF" as a country/carrier?
Also the PDA versions do not exactly match. I'm not talking about the XX part (I assume the Xs are fillers) but the SFR ROM on the site ends with ALK5, the "Unknown - DNF" ROM ends with ALK3 whereas my phone is ALK2.

Doesn`t matter. Just pick one for your region.
PDA is just version number. EMA2 is out for France.
May break Kies update until you return the phone to SFR`s rom.

Some are stock some are stock with operator branding you just want the stock ones without carrier branding you would know the French branding better than me but I would guess France stock roms being XEF or VGF or you could just go for Open Europe OXA whichever you choose just download and flash via Odin then boot into recovery on your phone and wipe the Cache and Dalvik Cache re boot and set your phone up.

That's just it: the only 3 ROMs for France seem to be operator branded and, looking in the country list, I don't see anything remotely resembling "Open Europe" all the items in the "Country" list have a country and a carrier except for the last entry "Unknown - DNF" is that the basic stock non branded one?
