[Q] Custom recovery w/ CF-Auto-Root? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've read the threads about CF-Root 6.4 and CF-Auto-Root and I'm aware of their differences.
My point is if I use CF-Auto-Root can I later install custom recovery like (TWRP) because I've used custom recovery on my previous device and I like the simplicity of making backups and flashing custom roms.
Also will there be any incompatibility with using TWRP and Mobile Odin.. I remember reading somewhere that mobile odin can't flash zip files, this is the reason I'm willing to install TWRP
Phone info:
Baseband: I9300XXDLID
Android: 4.1.1 JB (phone came with 4.0.4 used a OTA update)
also my phone and sdcard are encrypted.. should I decrypt them and do a factory reset before rooting?
I can provide more information about the device if needed.

[Q] Android 3e Recovery

I flashed CF-root and stock kernel a week ago and didn't like CWMod so I reflashed stock firmware but now my Android recovery mode try's to install Multi-CSC when I havn't installed a multi-csc rom before, so I read I might be able to flash a new recovery.img or flash a .pit file/check re-partition with the stock firmware, which is better? as I want to fix recovery for warranty purposes and the multi-csc message is a dead give-away i've been messing with the firmware.
If the .pit files the way what other tools/files do I need? I have stock kernel, stock firmware, stock csc, insecure kernel, odin, s2root and the android sdk installed.
With Telstra
My csc is TEL, model GT-I9100T, kernel: DVKF4 android v 2.3.3.
Edit:
Short Version: I was new to flashing and rooting last week so I opened xda found CF-root, didn't know there's other methods and used it, I flashed my stock kernel, used zIMAGE and still had root so I booted recovery and the normal recovery was there but it was installing multi-csc when I didnt use a multi-csc rom I tried all methods to get rid of it except repartitioning or replacing android recovery img.
I need to get rid of this message if i ever want to take it back to Telstra or Samsung.
Sorry fail to understand your post .
Stock Roms .and csc follow the instructions .

You need to use a kernel like CF-Root to break the 3E recovery. You can use SuperOneClick to root, but flashing ClockworkMod through Rom Manager wont break it.

Most Probably the ROM you installed had the Multicsc file with it with a default region CSC and after you reflashed the stock , its still trying to find the CSC folders for other regions.
What you can try is
1. Root your phone with CF-Root.
2. Boot up the phone, change the CSC to your area sales code ( TEL) by typing #*272*IMEI#
3.Boot to recovery, format cache,system,recovery
4.Boot to Download mode and flash the STOCK ROM which is just with your CSC.
Hope this helps!

Installing CWM on "rooted" GT-I9100T

So I reinstalled the stock GT-I9100T (Vodafone S2) 4.0.3 ICS firmware using Odin, and decided to use a method of rooting I found online which was simply installing "update.zip" using the stock Recovery. A SuperSU app is present and Root Checker says it's rooted. Now I want to install CWM to reflash AOKP, but I'm not sure what method to use, since it's already rooted.
Thanks in advance.
Save yourself hassles & avoid 'temporary' versions of CWM. Just flash the Odin version of the Siyah build which is compatible with the current Android version you're running. Read the first page of the Siyah threads to workout which build you need. You'll have a rooted phone + permanent CWM & you can then flash any rom/other kernel you like quickly/easily.

Can't flash CM11

Hi all,
First of all, i'm not a total newbie, i have already flash HP Touchpad, Galaxy S and Galaxy Note with CM and OmniRom.
My problem is with Galaxy S2 : i9100.
I have already installed a compatible recovery (with Heimdall), found here on XDA : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/cwm-kit-kat-compatible-t2546597
I can go on recovery named (Android Recovery System (3e)), why it's not ClockWork ??
But, i can't flash any rom, i have always this message :
error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip status 7
I tried with adb, it's the same...
I tried to flash OmniRom, the same...
Could you help me please ??
If the recovery says '3e' then the CWM flash has not worked........
If, before you started, you were stock (4.1.2?) unrooted. You will need to flash a custom kernel to root your device and provide a basic CWM.......then you can flash your KK compatible CWM from within the existing CWM.........
If you *are* stock unrooted, you have two commonly used options....
1) use the android 3e recovery to flash PhilZ kernel.
2) use Odin to flash dorimanx or siyah or similar. Both will give you root and CWM, and in my own opinion, flashing PhilZ is easier.....
As with any 'non standard' procedure, read ALL the instructions before flashing.......
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right

Newbie to flashing, rooting, etc - several basic questions

Hello,
So lately I've been have some troubles with my phone and I decided to try and flash with a new ROM and see if that helps.
I've been reading on the forums some of the guides, FAQ, and read about some ROMs but I'm still a bit unsure of the entire process.
Currently using GT-I9300, 4.1.2 OS, stock.
Backup:
1. Do I need to flash a custom recovery tool (CWM/TWRG) to create an image backup? Should I just root with Odin and then use Titanium?
2. Do these backup my EFS partition or should I back that up separately?
3. Do I need to root my phone with Odin to be able to flash custom recovery tool/backup my EFS?
ROM/Kernel flashing:
1. Since I'm a newbie to this and there seems to be a ton of ROM options, could you recommend on a stable CM based 4.3 ROM I could use?
2. I haven't seen a stock 4.4.4 for GT-I9300, is it stable to use?
I'm sorry If I've asked something thousands have asked before, I couldn't find a clear answer in a decent amount of time.
Thanks for the help!

Backup
(1) Titanium only backs up apps and data it does not do a full (Nandroid backup Google it) Root with cf autoroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980683 and then flash a custom recovery (choice is yours cwm,Twrp,PhilZ flash with Odin)
(2) Yes some custom recoveries back up efs PhilZ does I think twrp does not sure about cwm ( I don't think it does maybe wrong on that) nandroid backups don't backup your efs do this separately
(3) Technically you don't need root to flash a recovery but if you want to backup anything in recovery then you need to root. You will only need to root your phone once if you are intending to flash custom roms (so that you can backup) because root is included in custom roms.
IMPORTANT! You must backup your efs once you have flashed a custom recovery especially coming from 4.1.2. and keep multiple copies on phone and pc!
Rom/Kernel flashing
(1) We cannot recommend roms it is against XDA rules
(2) Their is no stock 4.4.4 roms last release was 4.3 anything else is a custom/port of 4.4
Thanks for your help, that cleared up a few things.
I ended up using samsung galaxy S3 toolkit (which is amazing btw) to root & load insecure boot image, flash custom recovery img and backup everything on my phone.
I'm now ready to flash my first custom ROM
Again, thanks a bunch

root cutom ROM recovery

Hello
I have a Samsung i9100G running ICS 4.0.3, build no. iml74k.jplp6, baseband i9100gxxlpr, and kernel is 3.0.8 [email protected]#2
I used to have it rooted via "one click root", and had CWM recovery.
After installing Slimkat rom, the recovery automatically became TWRP.
One of my friends wiped the entire phone, and the only way to fix was to restore the original FW "I9100GJPLP6_I9100GOJPLP5_I9100GXXLPR_HOME.tar".
Now, I can not root it, install CWM or TWRP recovery to install any other ROM.
I have searched a lot on xda but I am a rookie.
What I know is I have to root first then install custom recovery, but I can not find the root tool for my device and the custom recovery.
Flashify, rom manager, and other tools always see both recoveries but can not execute anything.
You could try to use different root methods. I used KingoRoot for PC to root mine. Hope I got your problem...
Why cant you root it?
Can you boot into recovery of Stock ROM?
KingoRoot does not support i9100g.
I can boot to the stock recovery.
