I am studying abroad pretty soon, and really don't want to pay for an international plan to send texts/make phone calls. Does anyone know how to configure google voice so that the phone will actually ring when a call is made to the voice number?
In the Google voice settings you can select 'always use google voice for calls ' or something to that effect

Does anyone know the name of text messaging app for wifi Honeycomb tablets?
You can send text messages via the gogle voice app now, if you don't mind using your google voice number instead.

Once you have the google voice number set up just go into the market and download the app. Go through the initial install and the option to compose a message is at the top of the screen

Textab is pretty cool. Gets the job done for me.
But as already mentioned google voice is probably the best choice.

theres a app called textab and pretty much you connect your phone to your tablet (via Bluetooth) and you receive and send texts through your tab. your have to get it for your tab and your phone
So is there a way to easily text? I use a google voice number, also.

Aren't you answering your own question? You're using cm7 on your touchpad, you already have a google number..
text via google voice app
and if you wanna use your own cell provided number, TexTab works well. created by a felow forum member.
I don't have google voice in Canada so on my Android phone I installed DeskSMS, it will forward all sms messages to gmail or gtalk. I can then use the gtalk or gmail on the Touchpad to send texts.

I use Google Voice, will it screw anything up if I put my regular cell phone number as the number for this device for google voice? That's the only way to get the app to work on the TP, correct?

Yeah, I got it working, thanks!
Finally I think I have my texting problem figured out!!!!
I am using google voice with my google voice number, I am using it for texting only and nothing else. I will port my number to the google voice when i am finally out of contract at Verizon.
So for now I want the texts to only come on the Sony Tablet S, but the texts are also coming on my phone. I need to stop them from coming to my phone, how do I do that?
Thank you
Sandy

Now you have really excited me LOL, So now that I am checking out Google Voice. I have a phone number from them now. I have questions!
If I give this phone number out to everyone and they call me on the GV number does that mean I am not using minutes on my verizon plan? if that is the case how do you know for sure people are calling on the proper number? how do I dial out on that number from my phone and not the Verizon number?
I apologize but this is all new to me and I have to admit everyone here has been great at helping me learn all these new things!
Thank you so much

I did a Google search and found some info I was just wondering if there a Popular one that Prime guys like. Thanks for your input.
"Prime guys"? I swear XDA is just goin to hell. There is already a thread on here for the exact same thing.
Try Gtalk. Every SMS will go to whatever app you have Gtalk open on, either your computer/tablet/phone.
Google Voice is as good as any app for SMS. I use it on my tablet. You can consolidate all texts and call through the same number, ditch your carrier number for the most part, so that when you swap carriers or phones or REAL phone numbers, people can still use the same number to reach you. You could even use the Google Voice Callback (though its market availability is currently in limbo, install it on an android phone by downloading the apk. It all syncs together, you can use your GV with an app like sipdroid to make calls using voip. I thought this was all common knowledge for android users.
Nick
Just install tablet talk and use a real phone. Google Voice blocks you from sending messages to a contact after 120-150 in one day, unless you are using it through forwarding texts to any cellular (dumb or smart)phone. So GV on it's own is not useful for serious communication.

As far as I know Google Voice does not send MMS either. If it did I would use it on all my devices by default.
