I have an I777, I did a factory reset, and when it rebooted, I got the Galaxy sII image, but then just a black screen for 30 mins. I pulled the battery out, and now when I boot it, the SGSII logo appears, but just a black screen comes up. I can boot it into download mode by plugging it in by usb/vol rocker down. Did I brick it?
More info is needed for this...... Rooted? Stock rom or custom?

I had been running a rom for months, decided to try another, got that installed just fine (ICS) but was having some other minor issues (kies wouldnt connect etc) so i did a factory reset and thought I would just start fresh. On reboot to perform the reset it hung on a black screen.
Update, as of now I have used ODIN to flash CWM back on and gotten into recovery mode.
Do you have a nandroid backup from the original rom you were running? The ICS rom you installed, was it one of the leaks?
I would have made one, yes, but I don't have that computer any more (died). I had made one today before installing the rom, but I can't access it, it is on the phone

If you made a nandroid backup, you obviously have CWM recovery, right? Can you get into recovery mode by vol up + vol down + power, without being plugged in?
unfortunately no, the phone wouldn't do anything other than the SGSII screen, then black. I'm downloading the stock .tar file now and intend to just use odin to put it back to factory and start again
Check out Entropy512's Thread in Development regarding [Odin][Stock][Root]UCKH7/KK6 Return/Unbrick to Stock (or Root), any other files can be found in there. Its saved me many times.
thanks, that is exactly where I found everything, figure if i'm gonna keep buggerin with this phone, keeping those on the new computer can't hurt!
You weren't running one of the ATT ICS leaks were you? The "stock" ones come with a nice "feature" that can corrupt your internal memory and brick the phone when a wipe happens....
If your Odin back to stock doesn't work, this could be the case.

no, thankfully, and i just finished. With success, I am back to 100% stock, with the counter set to NO and my bootloader back to the i777. thanks for the help, panicked a bit. I am comfortable flashing roms with ODIN, I wasn't expecting it to hang using the built in restore feature, luckily it was minor.
Now to get CWM back, backup, and try some more ROMS
ICS AOSP question, my phone wont connect to kies to restore my phone but it does with stock/gingerbread roms i have tried

thats a statemnent, not a question.
and IRRC your correct. but Odin, and Kies, are both things that are not used often.
Odin, should just be used to get back to stock. Kies....well IDK what that even does, but its from samsung. so it sucks.
Odin should not be used as a tool to flash ROMs.
that indeed was a statement, somehow the end of my question got cut off, either on my computer, or, more than likely, in my head. anyways, i don't use kies ever, I only used it as an easy way to back up all my contacts, calender etc, which now i cannot retrieve
Yeah from the little I've used it, Kies is just a browser based backup app, but only for pics/music/etc. I think OS updates come through it but there's nothing like CWMs restore/backup options..
I actually uninstalled it on my Mac cause it prevents Heimdall (a Mac version of Odin) from properly connecting to my phone.

Hi all,
I was running XWLPT and decided to try Chameleon 1.3. After flashing, it would not boot up. I've tried all kinds of things for the last 2 days, and read quite a bit. I've even tried the method in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
At the moment, I can get into recovery and I can get to download (power+vol down+middle button). But it's stuck at the Galaxs SII GT-I9100 very beginning boot up. Nothing seems to be working. I've tried several pit repartition and I know it's risky. But at this point, I have nothing to lose I guess.
Can anyone help?

Boot into recovery, wipe data (factory reset), wipe cache and try to flash the custom ROM again.
Good luck !
The issue is, I can't even wipe factory data. It will start and then just sits there, unable to complete the wipe. I'm so out of ideas.

Have you tried upload stock rom to phone on download mode? I saw your checked link, maybe you should try with different stock roms like 2.3.5 and etc.. If you try that, what the say ODIN as error?
Flash a siyah kernel with odin.afther you have cwm...
Inviato dal mio GT-N7000 con Tapatalk 2
First of all stop doing things that you are not sure about...
If you can get into Recovery then your problem is simple.
1. Wipe Data/Factory Reset,
2. Wipe cache partition,
3. Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache,
4. Flash a new rom (from sdcars probably),
5. Wipe cache partition,
6. Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache.
Let me know if this helped.
Hey guys, I apreciate all the responses. panagiostis4te - I am unable to wipe data/factor reset. It just hangs trying to do that. I've let it sit and it never completes.
sinasi11 - ODIN never throws an error. Depending on what firmware I flash, it either get stuck at datafs or data. It just sits there. I've even left it overnight and nothing happens.
I was able to flash to completion a few or the 4.0.4 rom (XWLPF) and it would reboot, show the android logo with animated progress bar. Then it reboots and is then stuck at the Galaxy S2 very first boot screen. I'm so out of ideas.

Questions:
1 . Have you seen This Warning Thread before?
# I don't think so
2. Were you running a safe Custom kernel before flashing Chameleon?
# I don't think so.
Here are my conclusions
1.
You were affected by the infamous Brick bug.
# You should blame yourself for this, for apparently failing to read that sticky warning thread, or even ask questions before messing with your phone while running the Dreadful ICS 4.0.4 firmware!
2.
The reason why your phone is still partially coming on is because you have a partially insane emmc chip.
# If you were using a fully insane chip, your phone would just black out without any sign of life.
3.
Your Nand /Emmc chip is corrupt!
4.
You can try combinations of pit file and ICS bootloader (where suggested). Who knows, you might be lucky
# Visit here and try the suggested solution
## If it doesn't work, then you can try the combinations suggested here.
5.
Jtag service will probably not work for you.
6.
The only (probably) solution (if the suggestions in 4. doesn't work for you), will be for you to replace the motherboard of your phone.
# Changing motherboard costs between $120 to $200
7.
If your phone is still under a valid warranty, the best solution would be to send it to Samsung Service center. Repair if free.
Sorry about what happened to your phone, but you really must shoulder the blame!
jokesy - thanks for the suggestions. I accept the blame. I was running stock and I read the Chameleon 1.3 thread and didn't see any warnings. I thought everything was safe. I guess lesson learned the hard way!

have tried my suggestion 4 yet? any news?
It's a Monday and I've got lots of things I need to take care of I've tried some of the suggestions prior to starting this thread but I'm going to give it another shot. Meanwhile, I'm going to try and survive without a phone for a few days. I'm almost ready to give up. I'm going to work on it more tonight. Will post if I have questions. Thanks again jokesy!
jokesy - I want to report success. I tried several of the pit files and finally at
i9100_u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4--patched--brick-between-176-and-2323-MB--FACTORYFS-moved-by-2048-MiB.pit
I was able to get it to complete install and format with bootloaded. The device then booted up! I now have 9.5GB vs 11GB and that's OK. Thank you so much for your help. It's now not the perfect S2, but nevertheless, a usable one! I sincerely appreciated your help. Lesson learned truly the hard way!

A quick question. Now that the pit is different, I assume that the nandroid backup I made cannot be restored to the device anymore?

I seriously don't know but if you have any important thing you want to extract from your backup, follow these steps:
1. Flash siyah kernel
2. boot to CWM recovery,
- dual boot options
- restore ROM to 2nd ROM (you need about 2.1 Gig free in your internal storage)
- done
3. Boot to your Second ROM
- Extract all info you need
4. Restore these info to your 1st ROM
5. you can delete the Second ROM when done, using the same dual boot menu in CWM recovery.
Thanks Jokesy. I did have 2 backups, Titanium and another backup app (name escape me at the moment). I think I'll restore app data and do it that way instead.
Just go back to original OS

You can go back to the original OS using Odin and a package found on many sites for the original Gingerbread that came on it... then go to Kies and update to the ICS and there you go. I have done this several times and unbricked mine after a mod. This was the best way for me.

You said you have Titanium - it can restore elements out of a nandroid backup, almost everything, stright back into place. Much easier than second ROMs.

Good to know. I am actually waiting for my microsd to sd adaptor to arrive. I accidentally formatted my microsd card with all my data in desperation of trying whatever method to format the device. I accidentally selected format emmc. Took out the card immediately, and am hoping to be able to unformat it in windows since it's using fat32. Fingers crossed!
So my S3 went into a boot loop. And I dont know how I got to this point but now the phone wont even boot, when plugged in to my comp it shows the battery symbol but its greyed out with the circle in the middle, and it stays like that. If i hold the power putton it comes up with the Galaxy SIII GT i9300 screen but then goes back to the battery. I can get it to go into download mode though. I think somehow I may have deleted all the files required for the phone to actually boot(Im a n00b so im not completely sure) Can somebody please help me?
I was on custom ROM before and my binary counter is at 4, so sending into samsung doesn't sound like a great idea :/
Thanks for the help and sorry if this has been asked before, I have searched for hours.

If not, try to reflash a rom with odin after you got into download mode or did you try this already?

If you mean with CWM mod, no I cant, it just shows the Galaxy S3 GT i9300 screen then goes black. Yes i did have a custom kernel, I believe it was the latest Perseus one. I already tried this with a stock rom and it idnt work, it said it had passed but i still can boot the phone.

as you can go into download mode but not recovery, what about flashing CWM another time (if you did not try it already). Maybe it solves the issue with recovery and from there you could go on trying to wipe etc.
Other options would be to do a mega or super wipe (if this is possible from odin & download mode, not sure though), to get your phone completely empty (mega) or at least to factory reset (super).

The thing is there is nothing wrong with my phone in terms of hardware. The problem that I am having is purely software, I think I just need to restore my phone to a previous version. I did see that thread but didnt feel my post belonged there as my problem is nothing to do with broken battery or mobo or anything along those lines. Hence why I am posting here
Just factory reset via recovery then flash a stock rom via Odin .
No recovery flash CF root via Odin .

I did install a stock ROM and it was still stuck on bootloop, left it like that for an hour, still nothing. So I went into CWM (after flashing it) Wiped and factory reset (noticing it said error mounting /data but ignored) and then restored with a backup I had. it did say error mounting /data and so skipped that step. Still stuck in boot loop. now that I try wiping again the same error occurs, error mounting /data any ideas please?

If you are on stock 2.3.4 and tried to flash that kernel .. that is why it failed .. it would be the wrong kernel for that rom. Did you flash a stock rom in recovery? If so then I would suggest using oden to return to stock . then see what you end up with.

Are we talking about Software ou Hardare issue in your opinion?
Cheers
Could be a hardware issue. Try this ... Put the phone into download mode then connect to the pc. Use the cable that came with the phone. Also use a port on the back of the pc ..not a hub. Then open kies and do the emergency firmware update.
Also ... When you used Odin to go to stock ..you installed the 3e recovery ..that's why it failed to flash. Which is a good thing. That kennel would have boot looped you.

The lap top is fine. Emergency firmware is through kies and not Odin. You need download mode ... Not recovery.

Hi there thanx for your answer..I have not tried at that site..this program will do what? COMPLETELY wipe my phone??cheers
It will, it completely erases everything. Replaces recovery and losses root. Very simple to use, I use it every other month.

Yep i used it..very good..But my original and main problem..Continues..NONE of my HOME keys are working..I fear that it is a Hardware issue with the SGH-i717..I guess i have to take it to Samsung for repair..Until someone else can give me a solution..I have tried everything and nothing has worked..No HOME keys..Cheers
Definitely not a hardware issue, there where some changes made IIRC in the kernel driver files, once flashed they prevented the homerow buttons from working normally, the only way I ever found to make them work right was to flash the Flappjaxxx alternate kernel series, let it boot, then return completely to stock!
If you dig around, FJ's alt kernel's are around here somewhere!

Good morning, well i believe i have finally arrived at a possible solution..I have searched hi and low for these Flappjaxxx alternate kernel ..I came up with a daunting array of alternatives for the complete amatuer as i am..I appreciate that your time is precious but i do need some general direction what exactly i am searching for..I have found this one but to be quite honest i am not sure if i need this whole ROM or just the Flappjaxxx alternate kernel'a..

Also when i do eventually obtain the Kernel that i am looking for can i use ODIN to flash it? I installed this ROM which i beleive to be stock already..You wrote that i need to return COMPLETELY to stock..What is that 2.3.6???

My work schedule is absolute hell, and due to people flaking at work I have been called in 2x to cover on my only days off...
Needless to say, im about to pass out, so im going to make this useless post...
Either I, or someone else can link you to a FJ rom, and the FJ alternate kernel that match, what you will need to do prior is make sure you have EVERYTHING you want/need, backed up to GMail (in the case of Phone logs, SMS and MMS with the Backup to GMail app, yes, im whoring this fantastic app out) AND to your computer, NO not your SD card, but your computer!
Make sure you have the latest recovery (TWRP 2.5.0.0 is what I have, but whatever TWRP is latest will do), wipe everything, then install the rom, boot, wait 10min, reboot into recovery, flash the alt kernel, boot, wait 10min, then test the home/back/menu/search key row, they should work, at this point, you CAN go back to the 2.x.x rom you where running, but if you have an i717, I have had nothing but love for the Stock rom update on AT&T once I performed a complete ODIN to it (flashing the ones here on the forum's resulted in random reboots here and there, and while less then ever before, still annoying, after an ODIN however, havent had a random reboot yet!).
There are issues with the GNote i717 JB release, many posted here, and quite a few here:
http://forums.att.com/t5/Android-Di...getting-Jelly-Bean-update/td-p/3421041/page/5
Including my own rant towards the bottom...
Needless to say, ill try and get on tomorrow to get the right links you will need, or some other kind sirs can...... either way, I have fallen asleep in the middle of writing this, so if something doesnt make sense... well, sleep writing was never my skill of choice

Hey guys! how are ya?
I'm really deep in some serious problem and hope u guys can help me with...
I have a Galaxy S2 int. (I9100) running the stable version of CM 10.1, few days back after charging I took off the power cable and the phone got stuck at boot... after trying to enter recovery mode, I realised that he wasn't there anymore... So, I tried to flash CWM Recovery (6.0.2.9) via Odin and I keep getting FAIL on flash...
The problem is... I really have some files on this phone that I can't loose... Do you guys have any clues or ideas that could help me?
Really desperate here! Halp!
[Oh, before anyone say it... I already searched this forum and Cyanogen's none of the solutions I saw worked]

Yikes. As far as getting your data back on a non-stock rom...that eliminates possibility of flashing with Odin...
After prowling around a little bit I saw this guide... it claims that some GSII boot problems are due to kernels. Try flashing a stock (or older CM) kernel. http://chaladi.me/2012/11/30/solved...otingstuck-galaxy-s2variants-kernel-problems/
Other than that, this one "might" wipe data but try re-flashing CM thru Odin? If not then try flashing back to stock ROM through Odin, make sure not to check wipe data, but by doing that you'll definitely get bootloop. Hopefully you get enough time window to use adb.
Good luck,

Tried flashing Kernel (Siyah and CM Stock) but odin returns me FAIL, or get stuck on WRITE NAND...
Any ideias?
'Yikes. As far as getting your data back on a non-stock rom...that eliminates possibility of flashing with Odin'.
No, it does not.
OP - The only way you're fixing this is flashing a stock rom with Odin. If this is successful, you wont lose any data. If you're having problems with the flash, find Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in General & try as much of the stuff in the thread as many times as you need to in order to get a successful flash. Do not try two or three things from the thread, come back here & say 'It won't work blah blah blah blah'; that thread is the Bible in these situations, there's nothing which isn't in the thread that can be suggested in these situations. So, you now have the tools to fix your phone.
Now, having said that, sometimes in these situations only a factory reset after the flash will fix it.
You're just going to have to try it & see what happens/hope the flash fixes it.

You mean those files you want to recover are all in the internal SD(like photos, music, videos etc,)?If so,just flash a stock rom as others suggested, this won't wipe the internal SD.Unless,in an extreme case, you'll have to rePIT.
