[Q] Make Cyanogenmod 10 Backup - Motorola Droid X2

I'm using Cyanogenmod 10 alpha 2 on a rooted Moto Droid X2 and I was wondering what's the best way to make a backup of the ROM? I want to try out other ROMs and want an easy way to restore my phone to its current state. I tried using the Droid X2 Bootstrap method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318083) while on Cyanogenmod 10 and it caused my phone to get stuck at the "dual core" Motorola logo when I tried booting it up. Any suggestions?

use cm7 dx2 bootstrap
should be posted in cm7 thread

Yep, works fine here. Go into SU, clear the allow privileges for it, and try again.
System recovery app works the exact same. Make sure you plug into wall charger first and hit "install", then enter recovery the same as we did on froyo.
no problems on my end...great app

Sounds like you updated to gingerbread using motorola method.
You should look at that thread for sbf to 2.2 and using p3's gingerbread. That's the only way to get gb and maintain root access at the same time.
Still doesn't work but untested absolute does so its all good.

Works good just wish I could easily load more fonts/bootanimations (without renaming them to the preset ones)

stupid question, i'm on p3's rooted stock un-deodexed gingerbread rom. can i use uot and jrummy's root tools or do i need a deodexed rom?

Not if you are boot looping, recovery must be launched from within the rom.
maybe we could get hashcode to bring us safestrap. i use ti on my D3 and it is wonderful to have. you can boot into it at start and also you can have a backed up ready to boot original stock OS and then a second rom or whatever you want and you can switch back and forth.
Safestrap should be something like 2ndinit. I can try to port it, but I won't until an rsd recovery solution will come out!

So once there are custom roms...
Can rom manager be used to flash them or is it via recovery only?
If there was cm7 out for this phone could it be flashed as of now?

Cm7 requires its own kernel so a Dev would need to do extra work porting it to work with a stock kernel.

Anyone have a successful restore from a backup made by this?
I installed the apk and the app FCs on me when I try to open. Any ideas? I'm on rooted VZW XT912.
Get into recovery?
I f'ed up. I installed RAZR bootstrap, successfully created a nandroid backup, but wasn't thinking and did a system restore, cleared advanced/system, cache, etc, and then proceeded to reboot. It wouldn't get past the Moto logo....
How do I get back to the recovery screen to restore from nandroid backup?

I didn't know there were ROMs for that kernel.... I use Eclipse on the 2.3.5 kernel and it is the best on the X2.

I got the sbf in the developement thread, it was posted under the roms, root, etc. etc.? In that list i only see a couple roms offered and was just wondering if their were any more?
Alright I will reiterate because maybe im confused. I SBF'd to android version 2.3.3 system version 1.3.232, kernal version 2.6.32.9. Now what roms are available for me?
Well there were several eclipse releases for that build but I highly doubt anyone has access to them. Hosting for old roms isn't a priority. Honestly you are better off upgrading your build and kernel. 2.3.3 wasn't the most stable

You can do cm7dx2 with the 2.3.4 or eclipse 2.1 with the 2.3.5 update
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
I hear great things about eclipse is it very stable? And I would have to sbf to 2.3.5. How do I root that version?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA
If you update to 2.3.4 then eclipse 1.3 is very stable! Let me know if you need a link. You can always save root with voodoo root keeper free app and just take the OTA.
I would also strongly using the rerecovery zips as well to always flash last before you reboot in bsr. If you are not sure what I mean I will post a link.
Yea Travis a link would be great so 2.3.4 is what I should sbf to and i have rootkeeper already but was just wondering what the root method was? Psouza has a method for that right.

Rootkeeper isn't necessary for 2.3.4. It could actually cause problems with flashing the rom. Use Pete's one click.

Indeed we can help. You can flash cm7, eclipse 1.3, liberty (its not all that great), and molten rom. I recommend eclipse for stability and cm7 for customization. All you will need to do is install the bootstrap recovery and use it to make a backup of your stock rom. Then wipe data, cache, and dalvic cache. Then flash the rom of your choice. Cm7 requires a few extra steps but we can cross that bridge of we get to it.

Yea I think eclipse is my choice, seems the most stable. I'm not sure about the step by step process for doing this I would like a detailed walkthrough for this it would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a 2.3.3 version of Eclipse? Let me know which version you want to use.
Here is a skeleton walkthrough just to give you an idea:
Make sure your device is rooted
Download the appropriate version of Clockwork Recovery abbrev. (CWR)
Download the rom of your choice and any other zips you need and make sure they are on you EXTERNAL sd card (very important but DO NOT freak out if forget, these things can be fixed
Install CWR from inside the app labeled System Recovery
Your system will reboot into CWR.
Whilst in CWR you want to wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache and System Data
(things will be muy poopy if you dont wipe sys data and Cache; Dalvik not so much)
You would then proceed to 'install zip' --> 'install from SD card'
Find the zips need to flash the rom, let everything work, go back to the CWR home menu (the first one you saw)
Hit 'Reboot device now' and bam, you just flashed your first rom!!!
For future reference: When a developer or anyone for that matter says you have to flash a zip file, the above process is what you would follow; sans wiping the Big Three (Cache Dalvik Cache and Sys Data) though some zips may require to wipe one of three and the poster will tell you which one.
Once you decide which rom you want to flash, Ill give you a more specific walkthrough.
im on 2.3.4 now and want to go with eclipse. That seems to be for me from what ive read. I have read i should do a nand backup but do i have to do that even though im only rooted with no rom? And you mentioned a more detailed walkthrough that sounds great, the noob frendlier the better.lol
thanks again

The first thing you want to do is upgrade to 2.3.5. That is the kernel you need to be in in oder for Eclipse to work.
You really always want to nandroid when you are installing something semi big. You'll save root and time if something messes up. Do you know how to nandroid? It takes about 15 minutes to do

No I've never nandroided, not really sure how. And can u walk me through the process of doing the 2.3.5 update

Razr won't restore backup?

Hey guys,
I had a little issue for the second time today. Before when I first rooted my razr back on GB and made a backup of it ans tried to restore after ,it would completely go through the process in recovery but when I would hit reboot,it wouldn't do anything after the dual core logo. Same thing happened today, made a backup of stock leaked .206 and installed the aokp rom. Got a little anxious to see if it would do the same thing and low and behold it did! So technically I'm stuck on this rom (not that I don't like it ) but I don't wanna go through the whole process of using Droid utility and ics unstuck methods to go back ....any help would be appreciated!

Tips for safestrap?

Just downloaded safestrap 3.11 want to.flash my first rom. Wanna know if there is any things i shouldnt do that will screw up my phone. All the roms i have looked at at loom pretty simple. Can i keep stock in a slot or just make sure i have a backup? And are there any suggestions for roms you guys prefer? Im on the JB leak and have cdma. Thanks in advance
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
do not flash into stock rom. as its dangerous for some1 new in this.
play with slot1 and others
and always do a backup before updates
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
I recommend the app SD maid, when I first started using safestrap I was only able to have my stock ROM and ROM slot 1,didn't have enough storage to even create ROM slot 2 so I manually deleted files, and was able to create the second one but kept getting the annoying low volume space message so I deleted more files and messed something up (I'm a relative noob) had to go back to stock with dru and start over. Long story short with SD maid I'm running stock plus roms on slots 1,2,and 3!you may want to get a 32 gig SD card also, good luck
