[Q] Proper way to charge your phone? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Guys, kindly help me, I'm not quite sure on how to properly take care of my Xperia P's battery. Should I discharge it to 1% and charge it to 100% all the time? or should I charge it often?

There is no problem in charging often but atleast you should let it drain it upto 50 to 60 percent

Its a myth - you don't have to drain your battery completely and then charge it again to the fullest for longevity
leap before you think

Thank you for the quick responses guys

Both of us, you and I have a lithium polymer battery. Some tips I follow for the life of my battery pack.
1. Do not let battery discharge to less than 10% too long.
2. Always charge your battery short of 100% ie 85-95%
3. Always turn off your phone and charge the battery to get an accurate reading of battery percentage.
Cheers....

just use it for stock it gets pretty good battery life
ok my battery just fully died should I charge it on for 8 hours or charge it with the phone off off until green? which is the best method?
personally I think it's all bull****. Just charge the battery when you need charging. All this calibrating talk is bs.
The battery life on the 3D is significantly better than what the OG Evo was. Therefore I would say that just charging when you need to is probably your best bet. You don't need to Calibrate the battery because Lithium-Ion batteries do not have a memory which would dictate any sort of history.
I have done a lot of reading on www.BatteryUniversity.com and to my understanding with lithium ion you want to avoid a full discharge. With my 3D I have just been running the phone normally and letting the battery drop to around 40% and then fully charging and I have had great battery life.
If you are consumed by how to condition/charge the battery I would suggest reading the articles on Lithium-Ion on that site that I posted.
Hope this helps.

THIS.
I laugh every time I see people saying what they do to charge their battery. Stand on one foot, rub your head and pat your stomach, charge for 8 hours, unplug for two minutes and charge again for an hour, do a barrel roll.
This is nonsense, Lithium-Ion batteries do not have a memory, they can not be trained in any way.
Also you do not have to worry about a full discharge, your phone/battery prevents this. I believe you only have to worry about this when using some serious stuff like RC items like planes, cars etc.

People don't so much train the battery as they train the phone. Like on the OG EVO, when you would do a batt stat wipe, you needed to fully let the battery die and then bring it to a full charge. This was so the phone knew where the battery really was at 0% and 100%.

how good is ur battery life charging that way u mentioned?
It doesn't take much research on these forums to figure out that Calibrating has nothing to do with the battery. Of course the battery has no memory, nor can you get magical extra capacity out of it.
When you calibrate you are increasing the upper and lower limit of "what the phone" thinks the battery capacity is. Which in turn makes the battery meter "on the phone" more accurate and allows the battery to be charged more completely.
I get an approx 30 mins of extra awake time since I calibrated using the procedures in the Evo 4G thread.

Battery Calibration [no full discharge]

,this is how i calibrate my battery, before i have 45min of standby it will decrease from 100% to 99% but now it is 2hours & 34min before it go from 100% to 99%,i felt the drain after 2 weeks of overusing my phone (1week playing paladog and 1 week flashing different roms, kernels and theming my phone with different launchers),
- Charge your phone to 100% while it’s on.
- Unplug it from the charger, power off, then charge for 15 minutes with it in a powered off state.
- Unplug charger from phone. Power it on, and then charge 15 minutes while the phone is on.
- Calibrate battery using battery calibration by NéMa then unplug charger reboot.
- Power on, charge for 15 minutes then unplug.
- Finished.
note: deleting battery stats(calibrating) don't increase your batterylife said by others and it is just a placeboo and i believe in them, but it fix my battery drain so why don't we give it a try, there is nothing to lose, battery drain is so annoying.
,thanks to NéMa for the awesome apps,
,thanks to jgezau for his thread as my reference,

That was from LEWA OS, one of the best rom at that time...:good:
First and foremost, a Google engineer debunked the idea that batterystats.bin has anything to do with how the phone charges. By deleting it, you're actually inconveniencing yourself, as there will be a short period in which you won't have accurate stats.
Secondly, the O1 has a lithium ion battery. Lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries don't need to be calibrated, as they have no "memory" effect (you can read more on that here).
Moreover, these batteries have built in charge circuits that protect and regulate the battery. Ever wonder how the phone knows the battery temperature? It's pulling it off the charge circuit. That same circuit also prevents the battery from ever being overcharged or discharged fully, which is why that convoluted guide about calibrating your battery by draining it to "empty" and then recharging it to full doesn't work. Worse yet, intentionally draining your battery is actually counter-intuitive, as lithium-based cells wear more as their percentage of discharge increases (you'd be hurting the battery in your effort to calibrate it).
Your instructions aren't detrimental, so if it works for you, go for it. However, based on my understanding of these batteries, it seems to me that this procedure is inconsequential.
Besides, a new battery for the O1 is only $6 USD on Amazon or Ebay.

[Q] S3 Charging

What's the best way to charge the phone? Like do I charge the S3 to Fully Charged and then disconnect and then use it till it dies or charge it when it drops to a certain percentage?
The S3 uses lithium ion batteries. Try not to ever fully discharge the battery, it degrades the battery considerably. I would fully charge it whenever I get a chance (or up to 90%) then recharge it within the 20-10% range.

Doesn't really matter, you won't prolong the life of it notably in any case. And the small gains are definitely not worth the trouble.
Just use it like you want and replace it in 2 years time. It will have degraded by that time, however you use it (even if you don't use it actually)

I have heard that don't let Lithium battery drop at 10-20%, and charge it frequently if I get a chance to keep the battery healthy

You can use it to 4% actually before it's a huge concern. I charge mine around 10% or lower and haven't noticed any decrease in battery performance. Just don't kill it.

Will it damage the battery if the percentage for example is at 70-80% and I charge it for about 45 mins, it won't hurt it if I disconnect the charger but the S3 not fully charged?

No. It won't damage anything. Just know the more cycles, the more wear. Continual bump charging may shorten lifespan. Not what I consider damage.

Just don't let your battery fully discharge or get too low. Always recharge it as often as you can, especially in the range of 10-20. Also, don't leave it plugged in for to long when it is fully charged. Follow these three steps and you should be good.

As you are saying that your mobile seems "hot"
First you need to confirm that its charger/device issue or only with battery.
First do battery calibration with this method: (In this method you need custom recovery for your device
This may help you

Dont forget to thank him there on his thread.
IMPORTANT: You can skip this step>> "Wait 20 min after you are sure it is 100% (phone should stay plugged in)" - As i dont know much about LG devices and their batteries
Now some advice from me-
If you can cover it >>> Never charge battery again and again before 15 or 20%
Always charge your battery to 100% at once and use your device till 15% or less than 15% and then again charge it full and so on...
This will make your battery backup good as well for battery life

According to the Battery Doctor app, you shouldn't leave your phone on charge for more than 9-10 hours(MAX), otherwise it WILL harm your battery.
You should try hibernating some of those apps with Greenify.

Use better battery stat (check play store) or similar app to track draining application.

[Q] Battery Life Xperia Z2

Hello this is my first xperia smartphone. I'm impressed about the battery of z2 but I have question about battery life, I have auto brightness auto, Sleep 30 seconds, mobile data on, nfc off, Wifi Always on, stamina mode off. I looked into may battery usage and the screen usage is using 62 percent? When you charge your z2 phone is it necessary to make the battery turn to 0 percent before charging? Mine was I discharged it to 0 before charging it but when I read about the battery Li-Ion that it doesn't need to be discharged to 0 is this ture? .How to make the battery life of z2 last longer but not damaging the battery itself? Any tips? Thank you!
You shouldn't discharge your battery to 0%, never! Personally i never discharge my phone under 10%, when it is 14-15% i plug in the chager.
It's bad for your battery life to discharge it to 0%.

So I think I damaged the battery of my phone. After I read about that Li-Ion battery I never discharged my phone to 0. I have bad experience about my HTC One M7 I always discharged it to 0 and now when I fully charged the htc one m7 to 100 percent it will drastically go down to 92 percent after 5 mins.
Might be, so never discharge your Z2 to 0%. 10% should be the lowest.

Thanks buddy! But the screen usage of the z2 is eating the battery of 62 percent :crying:
I don't think so you damaged battery discharging battery to 0% once, moreover it was "user 0%", battery had some energy inside. So keep in mind that optimal for battery is work between 40 and 80% but of course it is not very convenient.

Wait.. obviously "Screen" usage takes up the most percentage on a phone because you're using it? Judge the battery overall when you reach from 100% to 15% or so.
I'm pretty sure you have no idea regarding the battery usage, you should take your time to read and understand it. :good:
60% used by screen is good, that means there aren't any apps in the background eating your battery

It is normal. The screen takes a lot of the battery. My SOT is between 60-70% battery drained.
