Note: Please upgrade to CM10.1 for some fixes. This is currently unmaintained.
Broken:
Bluetooth (some progress has been made, but it still does not turn on)
Camera preview, some JPEG corruption
Earpiece (sound comes out the speaker by the camera on the back instead)
Only earphones with 4-part plugs work (like those with a mic) the first time (see last "What if?" question)
Installation:
Reboot to CWM
Make a Nandroid (optional, but recommended)
Format /system if you had a different GApps package installed
Install ROM
Install GAPPS if you just formatted /system
Wipe data/factory reset if you are coming from Gingerbread
Reboot
??? (wait a while...)
Profit
What If....
I get a message saying "assert failed. Installation aborted"? Go to "Mounts and Storage" -> "Format /system" and try again.
my capacitive buttons don't work (US)? Reboot.
my capacitive buttons don't work (INTL)? Flash the international kernel.
the navigation bar is really annoying? See tweaks in second post.
the torch doesn't work? It's because camera is kinda broken. Workaround: take a picture with flash set to "on", and stay in the camera app.
I wiped data before flashing? It won't make a difference.
I can't update Google Now? Use the newer Google Apps package.
I want to switch my storage? See second post.
the ROM is too slow? Try enabling the overclock, or switch to ondemand governor, or use Mercurius kerne.
I can't get any headphones to work? Install SoundAbout and set it to wired with mic.

So the latest version was broken. My advice is just wait for CM10.1. To fix app installation issues on 2/18, stick the apps in /data or /system with a root browser first, or use the next oldest or Mercurius kernel.

Mods/Hacks
There are 4 things you can edit in build.prop. If you want, you can edit the file before flashing. Here is what the defaults look like:
Code:
#########################################
## You can tweak the next 4 properties ##
#########################################
# Uncomment to switch internal and external storage
[B]# That means remove the "#" at the beginning of the next line[/B]
# ro.vold.switchablepair=/storage/sdcard0,/storage/sdcard1
# Change to 0 to enable softkeys, 1 to disable
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
# Defaults to Mass Storage. You can change to mtp
persist.sys.usb.config=mass_storage
# LCD density (240 is default)
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
Thank You for your hard work and dedication and not giving up! You are amazing! <3

Expanded desktop. Enable it in Settings -> System -> Power Menu. However, it also hides the status bar. I may remove the nav bar once I get confirmation the International version's home button works correctly.

This is really running smoothly, the "torch" app does not work however so I am willing to remove it for now. (I know its related to your camera LIB issues) Sound recorder works great. let me test a couple of things to make sure. Also, I'm glad the "G-Talk" works since that's how I stay in contact with co-workers. This is a work of wonders, recommending this to be announced on XDA portal. Thank you for all your hard work.
Edit : Works great! Wonderful! Expanded desktop works fine.
Should I Wipe Data/Factory Reset after flashing the ROM and Gapps or before? Would it still work the way you posted it?

It doesn't really matter, as long as you do it. You could even go to Mounts and Storage -> format /data. The objective is to get rid of any old ICS/GB settings and databases that would conflict with JB.
Woot! its about time, although a bit late for Christmas i feel like a kid opening a present..thanks to all who are involved with the development of our player!
One way to transfer to your device is to use dropbox. And use " folder downloader for dropbox" to download onto your device downloads, files, photos, etc.
Ok, just tried it it was amazing other than a few relatively minor bugs other than the ones stated. First, bootloop while plugged iñ amd powered down, next google now wont update with the gapps package, says not signed correctly, and i also noticed that the capacitive home button doesnt work on first boot, but works fine after. Otherwise, amazing work and progress! Keep it up man!
Edit: sorry if i should have posted in the dev thread, this was the one i thought would be appropriate

The charging bootloop only occurs when plugged in to your PC. It's a bootloader issue - nothing fixable. I'm looking for a newer GApps package, but most are way too big. The issue is our system partition is so small. I've already taken out the stock live wallpapers. About the button, that's really interesting.
@all I'm really glad you like it. User feedback is what above all makes a developer's day!

Beta 1 CyanogenMod 7.2.0 KANG ROM for the Player 5.0 USA and INTL
Preliminary release, less problems than before.
Please note that for now I have removed the assert that was causing problems for INTL users, but this means nothing will stop you from installing this ROM on the wrong device! Please make sure you have a Galaxy Player 5.0 USA or INTL before installing this ROM!
Instructions:
Install Entropy512's kernel if you're on stock ROM.
Do a backup!
Copy ROM to /mnt/sdcard/
Reboot into Recovery Mode
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Install zip from sdcard
Reboot
Not that installing this ROM will automatically convert your rfs partitions to ext4 (lagfix). Except for the /efs partition which I'm scared to touch.
Known Issues:
Camcorder doesn't work
Wireless issues
Boot loop when plugged in to USB port while powered down
Fixed in Beta 1:
Camera
Vibration
Fixed in Alpha 2:
External sdcard mounts properly. By default, internal sdcard mounts as /mnt/sdcard and external sdcard mounts as /mnt/emmc. This is a better default I think since some devices may not have an external sdcard. To switch, go to Settings -> CyanogenMod settings -> Application and uncheck "Use internal storage"
Airplane Mode
Wireless seems more reliable? Not perfect..
Updated to Entropy512's overclocking kernel
TODO:
Unify with tdmcode 4.0 release if possible..
More testing. Please post your issues
Thanks to tdmcode for the help and Entropy512 for the kernel. Thanks also to noisyfox for the INTL fix.

Ok I've installed this.. I've notice:
1: wifi turnoff when i lock my player but doesnt turn on automatically
2: camera bugs confirmed
3: music in sd doesnt appear in players
Looking forward to giving this a try once more of the bugs are worked out.. good work!
Awesome job! I can't thank you guys enough for how much you are doing!
I have a INTL device and I just can't wait to help you to test it! By the way, good job!
I'm porting MIUI to G70 so I'm sure I can learn a lot from your CM7 rom!
Haha, I'm so excited!
Woooo
Thank you a lot for your effort, definitely going to flash this once it is downloaded!
Just tried it since I was curious.. looks really cool! Seems to be working pretty well considering it's an alpha build. I've never actually seen CM7 before so that was interesting.
I'll definitely be using it once its out of alpha!
Hey good job.
Is there a possibility that this ROM could also come out for the International version?

Umm they don't work because you can't use this ROM. This is for U.S.A users only. Sorry. But I tested it, works FANTASTIC! Camera is a bit funny lol and everything is so smooth. ICS themes work Love it, great, thanks for your hard work! WiFi is also not a problem for me soo I don't know about any problems with that. One thing i do wanna mention is that GApps wasn't on here, so i downloaded that and it works just fine. It synced all my apps back in and everything is fine. THANKS!

I want to replace it's driver with rj's kernel...
But I don't know how to unpack boot.img....
I tried split_bootimg.pl but it don't work... I also tried hex editor but failed...
To recognize my SD all I did was remove it and put it back. The wifi is a problem for me. The camera is funny lol. A few apps. Are not installing properly. Installed Gapps and it seems to be working. All in all needs a few bug fixes, but this is a great ROM. oh, and the overclocking would be a nice feature to get working.

edit: my wifi does not work, home menu back buttons lights not on, back camera is reversed and front camera upside down, when i press record the bottom screen flashes green and silver

I dont have any problems with sd but wifi just dont turn on anymore so i had to get back to entropy's kernel
I'll try next update
Wifi seems to be working without any issues and the camera seems to be working but the image is mirrored. Installed Gapps and the market is working again. My SD card is working normally too, although the music library seems to be non-functional.
The only issue I've come across so far is that for some reason when I installed zeam launcher it just force closes. Also just noticed that none of the capacitive button lights work.. although I'm not sure that's a bad thing.
If you have a non-USA 5.0 you can't just install this ROM and reflash the kernel, becuase the "kernel" on samsung devices contains a lot of ROM-specific files from the root filesystem (init.rc being the main one).
I need someone with a non-USA 5.0 to post the following:
outputs of:
adb shell cat /proc/mounts
adb shell ls -l /dev/block/
Then, most critically, reboot into CWM recovery and go to Advanced -> Key Test. Press all the buttons on the device and post what the key codes are (for example when you hit the Menu button it should show "Key: 139").
This ROM features a stable enviroment [the most stable tested by me so far], with the least number of bugs (with 366BB), and probably one of the best performances.
Features: This ROM provides a default Portrait screen, it also has as the stock theme - TouchWizzedB (It looks like the Samsung ROM's, don;t know why i like it)
It features BeatsAudio, Bravia Engine and xLoud,
IIt provides a bootanimation and sound provided by Madhacker.
(if the bootsound is not on and you really want it, enter in terminal enablebootsound)
It also provides as the default launcher - GO Launcher Ex.
You can add [highlight]software[/highlight] capacitive buttons in the taskbar - thanks to nom051205 < Zip below
It was tweaked for daily use.
Skype has not been fully fixed, but i found a workaround, after rebooting, call someone, or a number like 444 then close, it should work, tested multiple times and it worked, i'm going to try and make a script to get rid of this step. (sometimes it works without doing a thing, so i think it is about luck )
Also, skype seems to leave the speaker on after singning out creating a huge battery drain, if you experience this kind of issue please remove your Skype and install this one, then go to advanced settings (in skype) > sound settings > disable sign-in/out sounds and Force speaker off after calls.
With those workarounds provided above, you should have a seamless experience with Skype..
FAQ:Q: Does it have USSD fix/Gapps/Phoenix Kernel?
Yes
Q: Is the WiFi stable?
With 366BB i have no problems with WiFi stability.
Q: Do i have to do a full factory reset if i come from other CM7 ROM?
No, just wipe dalvik cache, full factory reset is a must if you come from DSC/FroYo/Official 2.3.3.
Q: How do i flash 366BB?
You put your device in Fastboot, connect the USB and use a tool provided here or here.
Q: I can't install the ROM! Installation Aborted! (yeah, yeah, this is not a question..)
Open the zip file then you will see a folder, go into the folder, select all (meta.inf; system; boot.img) and re-zip those files and name it LXdroid 0.x.zip then flash it.
Credits to nom051205 for using his post almost copy-paste.
Q: What's wrong with Swype? It just FC's?
Install it manually, this should do the trick, you can find swype.apk in a link below.
Bootsound/Bootanimation Script Commands
Terminal commands for scripts:
enablebootsound - enables bootsound
bootsoundoff - turns bootsound off
bootsoundon - turns bootsound on after being turned off
newbootsound - /sdcard/android_audio.mp3 is copied as new bootsound
newbootanim - /sdcard/bootnanimation.zip is copied as new boot animation
(Probably you need to type su before those scripts, just saying...)
Credits go here.
Note: This is my first ROM, feedbacks and head-ups/tips would be welcomed in order to tweak it further.

-Download MultiRecoveryFlasher from here.
-Download MultiBasebandFlasher from here or download dsp and baseband flasher by n0p and StreakOwner from here.

Now let's get started for real!
1-Install the drivers.
2-Put your streak in fastboot by turning the phone off and after that powering on by holding down volume + power button.
3-Open MultiRecoveryFlasher and flash StreakMod recovery. Reboot.
4-Put your streak again in fastboot.
5-Open MultiBasebandFlasher and flash 366BB or the script provided alternatively (does the job all by itself ). Reboot.
6-Enter Recovery by turning the phone off and then powering on holding up volume + down volume + power button.
7-Select "Software upgrade via Update.pkg on Sd Card"
8-A Dell logo and an attention will appear, press power button once to show the menu.
9-Hit advanced to mount sdcard via PC, so the SD card will appear in you PC via recovery.
10-Copy the ROM you downloaded to the sdcard (preferably to root).
11-Hit back in recovery, choose install sdcard updade.zip, then choose zip from sdcard, browse for your zip, and hit the camera button then select yes.
12-After the installation is completed, hit back to the main screen of the recovery, and choose wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache partition, then choose advanced, wipe dalvik cache, wipe battery status.
13-(It is recommended to reboot again and do a factory reset from the dell recovery, White Letters)
14-The system will take some time to boot up, but you are done, enjoy your custom ROM.-------------------------------In my opinion the fastest and easiest way to get a custom ROM--------------------------------------------------

You can see the CPU settings, freq's and governors but you can't change them from the CM settings, i've included AnTuTu CPU Master Free in the ROM, and the locksreen it works fine on Ring and Lense, Rotary and Sliding Tab are small and aligned to the left. so i would say that no, it doesn't have them fixed as i didn't needed them, but maybe i will look into it.
Personally i use Ring Style at lockscreen and dial screen, with one ring only at lock and the default Freqs (128-998 mhz , Conservative).

You can use alternative software, as i mentioned, there is SetCPU or CPU Master Free, and CPU Master doesn't stay always on in RAM and you can set it to Set frequencies on boot
I think that CM frequiencies support must be added from the kernel, so i don't think i can do something about it

Hello!
I like the ROM!
Only the Longhorn 2.9.1 Quadrant 2300 points for that!
The LXdroid only 0.1 points in 1408.
Well, it's a huge difference.
Test Battery, but the IGO primo 9 to be strong!
This looks like a very fast everything works properly (from my experience it!)

I made this ROM without testing Quadrant,i never trusted that benchmark , i tested with AnTuTu Benchmark and it is not a big difference from Longhorn to LXdroid, i still need to tweak something more, but the overall feel is smooth as butter in my experience and the battery life is just great for me.

If anyone has not read it, the good must be so skype has stopped working, that:
1, restart
2, the recording is started and is ready to.
3, visszahallgatod

CyanogenMod 10.1.3 for P768
Latest stable CM 10.1.3 add CM Account, you can skip it if you don't want to register (skip button is at the top which I miss the first time I test it).
This is an unofficial CM 10.1.3 build from source with original omap kernel (3.0.31-CM+). Please flash at your own risk. I've tested on my P768f so it should work on all L9 P768 phone.
I removed NFC support. May add it for P768e later.
Only for P768 phone with Unlocked bootloader!
Need sdcard in phone to use camera & gallery, If no sdcard please flash sdcard emulate patch

Bugs / known issues
CM 10.1.3 bugs
1080 video recording not work
You cannot change headset volume while calling. After testing we cannot change calling volume at all, so I decrease headset volume.
Camera will partially work if no sdcard in phone [Still image now work, Video not work]
Gallery also not work if no sdcard in phone. So you should flash this patch to re-enable sdcard emulate.
What's next
This is final release rom but I may add more flashable features and mods, after I learn how to do it.
Version History
2013/09/28 - Kernel mod + UMS
OC - 300, 600, 800, 1008, 1200 Not OC by default, must select max 1200 in Performance menu
UV - 925, 1075, 1175, 1275, 1350
Add SIO, SIOPLUS, FIFO, ROW and VR I/O scheduler
Add sanjose, lazy, interactiveX, wheatley, ondemandx, pegasusq, adaptive, adaptivex, smartass2, zenx and abyssplug CPU Governor
UMS (external), MTP (internal/external) and PTP all work, default to UMS, you can select MTP/PTP from "System Setting" > "Storage" > "Usb computer connection", I suppress old ICS UMS dialog so don't panic when it open and then suddenly close itself (no better solution for now, I do this because I don't want anyone to open it and press USB connect button. It'll unmount sdcard).
Cannot use camera if no external sdcard in phone (try to fix it in camera/gallery code) -> now still image work, video not work and I don't want to mess with CM camera/gallery code further. So please insert sdcard!

HOW TO
Flash over last version
You can flash new version over old version
Put rom & gapps for CM10.1 in sdcard
Boot to recovery
Wipe cache & dalvik cache
Flash rom & gapps
Reboot
Flash this ROM over CM10.1 and preserve your installed application and data
This should work if you came from CM10.1 rom, not test in CM10.2 or other rom
Download ROM and GApps to your sdcard
Move all your application to phone internal storage
Reboot to Recovery
Backup your phone
Clear cache, dalvik cache and format /system
Flash ROM then flash GApps
Advanced restore your /data from backup
Reboot
Enable OC, change I/O scheduler and chnage CPU governor
You need to enable developer mode on your phone, do it by
Goto "System Setting" > "About phone" > Tap 7 times on "Build number". You're now enable developer mode.
Goto "System Setting" > "Performance"
Enable OC by select "Processor" and set "Maximum CPU frequency" to 1200
You can also change CPU governor in that page, about what is it please refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792369 and http://translate.google.com/transla...013/01/governor-scheduler-tcp-bejegyzest.html
You can change IO scheduler in "I/O scheduler", please read about it at https://www.vincentkong.com/wiki/android/android-io-schedulers/
Please test all changes before select "Set on Boot" because if something go wrong you can reboot your phone to revert it.
Cannot connect to wireless access point
This problem mostly occur when you got some error at first boot. The problem is error interrupt startup service to write proper MAC address data to file. Your wifi mac address will be 00:00:00:00:00:00
Use file manager or adb to delete /data/misc/wifi folder from your phone
Reboot (disconnect usb cable to make sure there're no error at startup)
Artit! You are a boss man! Thank you so much. Ill give this a go in a minute.
Update: This ROM is great man, I haven't had any problems at all with it so far, all I have done is used pimp my ROM to replace the GPS config file with the one which is for my country. Its running smoother than stock for me, I'm really amazed at how good its going! Well done mate.
Did you build the kernel yourself? I've noticed the phone fully identifies as a P768 which is awesome!
Edit: Can I include a link to your thread in my bootloader unlock guide so people who unlock know where to get a custom rom

Thanks for the work and also for helping me there
Some issues I faced using your CM unofficial rom:
01- Sounds like you configured camera to save to external storage and ONLY to there; that whenever the external storage is not there the camera app displays "No Storage: No external storage available" showing only a "cancel" button to exit the app. In other words, the camera won't work without an external storage. May be adding an option to disable/enable that feature will solve the problem. (or may be the problem is linked to a disabled sdcard emulate?)
02- Call rejection is NOT possible at all. Sliding to the red icon when an incoming call is on doesn't reject the call and acts as if nothing was chosen and continues to ring. Btw, I faced the very same problem with the official CM release and even the nightly builds for p760.
03- The headset hang-up/answer button is not functional. The sound keys work properly though when the headset is plugged in.
04- The front key light are always on. In case you want to turn them off, you can flash this patch thanks to nfs1mw and to you that you referred me to the original thread here. Also, a simpler solution can be installing Soft Buttons Light.
05- Probably because you disabled sdcard emulate, I cannot add any files to the built-in memory when connected to pc. Is there a way to disable it?
06- The hang-up/answer button that pauses/plays music player in the stock roms doesn't affect the music player basically. The same is also faced in the official CM roms.

Thanks for bug report. For camera issue I also think it because of disable sdcard emulate. I'll make a flashable zip to enable it again. For other bug that relate to CM if I can find bug fix patch I'll add it.
Did you try CM 10.2, these bugs exist in CM 10.2 rom? If not, may be I can add some fix from 10.2.

- I briefly flashed a CM 10.2 Nightly; the soft button key light has an option under Settings>>Buttons>>Backlight (CM 10.2.20130910-Nightly). May be you can port that instead of flashing a patch or installing a 3rd party app as explained in my prev post.
- I didn't have a chance to test the call rejection with it, unfortunately. May be in couple of days I will reflash to test again.
- As for the other bugs that are not specific to disabling the SD emulate; namely #3 and #6, they are still in the last nightly I tested.
Notes:
- The camera patch works properly with 10.2.* tested it with Focal as well.
- Tried to patch the volume keys headset patch, but the boot got stuck at the CM logo. So, I had to reflash the same CM to boot normally; don't know if resetting to factory settings could have helped though

I read in other CM rom thread and find a way to fix call reject bug (thanks mateo1111 and AntonX).
For SDcard emulate issue, If I re-enable it in this rom you'll need to use link2sd or app2sd to mave app/data to sdcard. The build in "Move to sdcard" feature will not work. So for me I prefer to has it disabled. It's a little trade off with camera storage issue. I'm appreciate if you can point out the better solution or some thread about this.

OK. I found a solution for sdcard emulate issue. We don't need to disable it, I just swap it with external sdcard. I've to test it to see if it work, be patient.
All other bugs are fixed. And I'll try to use setting from CM10.2 in this rom.
I'm running the original build and I think i've found a bug, when i'm in a call, the button to use the loudspeaker during a call doesn't do anything, it just continues through the ear piece speaker. Its only a minor issue.

OK loud speaker and mute button don't do anything. I'll try to see if this bug is in original CM or not.
edit: OK, original CM 10.1.3 RC2 doesn't have these problems. So It may come from patch that fix headphone volumn or some incompatible library. Let's me find what's the problem.

Not sure about lag because I did't play any game on it yet.
And for screen rotation I read about that in some thread a few weeks ago. Someone said that our phone lag while we change min frequency below 300 MHz. This rom come with min frequency set at 300 and you cannot set it below that.
New test rom is up. It fix almost bugs but have new minor issue while you reboot phone. Maybe it about how I emulate sdcard.

No need to do full wipe, please do these step
1. Move all your apps to phone
2. Boot to CWM and backup to external sd
3. Clear cache, dalvik cache and format /system
4. Flash ROM + GApps
5. Advance restore only your /data from CWM backup (I always reboot phone once before do this step but restore data after flash rom should work)
Please note that due to make external sd as primary sdcard if you reboot phone and have usb cable connect, you will get com.android.media error.

1- Any news about testing with CM10.2?
2- Could you elaborate more upon the difference between the testing and the normal roms in the 1st post?
3- I need to make a system image of my current stock rom so that I can easily test these roms easily whenever you update them, what do you recommend for that purpose?
CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.4 (KK), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
------------THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL UNSUPPORTED BUILD-----------
This is my attempt at porting CyanogenMod 11 to the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1. I use a SM-T530NU, so that is the only device I have tested.
Any other device variations have not been tested and are at your own risk. I will not be able to support other variations as I don't own them for testing.
Special thanks to MetaIIica - I have been using his Alpha build of PAC-ROM KitKat since December. I studied the code for that, along with stock and some other ROMs before starting this port. This is my first time doing any work with Android, so I'm not sure if I'm technically doing things correctly or not.
I know CyanogenMod 12 is under development already, but I have decided to do a CM11 based build in hopes of a making a stable daily driver offering. I have fixed many of the issues present that were present in the PAC-ROM build. They can probably be backported to PAC-ROM easily if its built with my tree, but I prefer the plain CM-based offering myself.
You may get the source of my changes for this ROM on my github. If you'd like to help and submit a patch, feel free to open a pull request. You will of course be credited accordingly.
See below for instructions, what's working, and issues I fixed over the PAC-ROM Alpha.
For any bug reports or feature requests, please use the appropriate tabs at the top of the thread. Please include as much information as possible and if possible a logcat or other debug information in the case of bugs. Requests for supporting other device variations will not be honored - sorry,
Feedback and constructive criticism is always appreciated. I hope you enjoy using the ROM; if you use the ROM, please consider leaving a thanks, rating, and/or review

INSTRUCTIONS
- Install PhilZ Touch Recovery (recommended)
- Copy CM11 & GAPPS (Optional) ZIPs to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Do "Clean to Install a New ROM" (FULL WIPE REQUIRED INCLUDING SYSTEM, NOT JUST DATA/CACHE - even if coming from another CM-based ROM, as my device tree is different)
- Flash CM11 ZIP
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- Reboot
UPGRADING
-In general, you should be able to just flash over the previous build, but if you encounter any weird issues please clean using the steps above
Working that I've tested:
Audio: Speakers, Headphones, Bluetooth
Bluetooth
CIFS/NFS (Network File Systems - see notes below)
Front Camera
GPS
IR Blaster [SM-T530NU Only]
Magnetic Cover Sleep/Wake
MTP
Rear Camera
USB OTG
Video (w/ Hardware Decoding)
WiFi (2.4ghz & 5ghz)
NOTE ON BUTTONS: This ROM is configured to use the hardware buttons-- so you won't see the software buttons taking up space at the bottom of the screen, as they are disabled. This is not a bug. Use the hardware buttons, as they are the same. If you really want the software buttons for some reason, edit /system/build.prop, change qemu.hw.mainkeys to 0, save, and reboot. If you map the menu button to a long press of another button, some apps such as TitaniumBackup will count this as a hardware key and hide their soft menu button - but only after a reboot.
NOTE ON CIFS/NFS: Many of the mounting utilities on the play store are outdated and broken due to changes in the linux kernel. For best luck, mount using the command line. For CIFS, you can tweak CIFSManager into working - see this thread

Congratulations ! :good:
Nice ROM, it installed fine on my T530 will test some more, thanks for the hard work
I got this installed but the back button and recents button didn't work at all. Its a fast rom though but it would be nice if it was a barebones CyanogenMod without the Pac Rom extras installed too.
Time for a new test, i'll test it in my t530 and report back the results.

It is a pure Cyanogenmod without the Pac extras. If you're seeing them, make sure you did a full wipe before flashing as noted in the original post - you may have remnants of PAC-ROM in /system. The best way is to use PhilZ option to "Clean to Install a new ROM" as that wipes everything correctly. That could also be causing your issues with the back button as well. I completely rebuilt the device tree for this rom over the pac build, as that was based on MSM8974 when this is an MSM8226 device. If a full wipe wasn't done, you have stuff for the other device tree in /system that will mess things up. If the issue persists after a full wipe, please let me know what varient of 530 you're using, and pastebin a logcat of what happens when you press the back or recent events buttons.

I always completely wipe everything before installing a new rom. Never wiping the tablet before installing a new rom might cause problems. I no longer have the rom installed. I will install it again and see if it was just a flike that it didnt work properly the last time. I also have Philz recovery installed because its the only one that has full brightness on the screen.
Simply great. Everything i need works great. Finally a kitkat aosp rom that given me everything i need. Flashed in TWRP on a t530 (wifi only) and running perfectly fine. Good job mate. If you want me to test anything on t530 just tell me.
Btw, otg works, so my usb keyboard is working.
Otg works, YouTube and twitch.tv works, BT works, rotation works, camera works, xposed works, everything i have tested works

Thanks! Glad to hear that it is working well for you. I believe the only difference between the SM-T530 and the SM-T530NU is the the NU has an IR blaster, which I haven't actually enabled yet. I need to figure out how to test that because I never use it. After i do that and post a build with IR, it will be useful if you check and make sure it doesn't break the regular 530. Those two from what I can tell are vary similar, its more of any celluar varients that I would be worried about, because this is build for wifi only..
Let me know if you find anything broken
I got this to work properly. I have one question though. Is there a way to get youtube working without having all the other GAPPS rubbish installed. I noticed that the tablet got slower as soon as I installed GAPPS. The tablet flies along without GAPPS installed and I only want youtube working without all that other rubbish bogging down the tablet.

To be honest, I'm not sure - you could try copying the Youtube APK off of the device and then side-loading it on a fresh install without installing all of GAPPs, but I'm not sure if that will just prompt you to install all of them or not if you do that.
Are there particular use cases you are noticing are slower? I did not really notice any difference with or without GAPPs, other than the initial boot time as they were unpacked and installed. If there are particular situations that cause this, then we could dump some logs to see if there is something that could or needs to be optimized.

I have youtube backed up with all my other apps with Titanium Backup and when I try running youtube without GAPPS it fails and a popup states Youtube has failed to start (or something similar) and if I install the GAPPS I have which is older than the version that is needed it tells me that google needs to be updated. So then I update that and tried freezing the google apps I dont want or use but youtube fails.

The whole tablet is slightly slower with GAPPS installed. I've opened a gapps zip with WINRAR and removed some of what I dont want and only left whats needed for play store to run so it improved a bit.
Hi,
I didn't try it for now...
But thanks for the good work!!
For the Gapps, have you try PAGapps?
It has different package with a lot of options.
The smallest one should be around 136Mo. You can also remove some apk with a config file.
All other apps are available on Play Store...

I used an aroma based gapps. You can install only what you need. About using YouTube without gapps, i dont know if tubemate could do the trick. Use aptoide to install it if you dont like play store. Here is the link for the aroma gapps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2547250

It has something to do with the lighting detection or some other initial initialization that I haven't figured out yet, but as a workaround if you toggle between camcorder mode and back it'll brighten up.

Tested and working fine. Is a nice workaround. I dont mind about this bug as I only use front camera for Skype and such things, but im glad this workaround is pretty easy and fast

Hi Everyone,
I updated the original post with a new build. This build should fix the lighting issues with the rear camera the first time it is used. After I debugged the mode switching with logcat I was able to find out what the issue was. I also am working on reducing dependencies on vendor libs where possible by getting more of the modules that can be built from source building from source.
I've started exploring IR blaster support for NU users and I am continuing to look for a solution for bluetooth audio, but I don't have either yet. Stay tuned for future updates
If you already installed the ROM most times you should be able to flash over it, but if you see anything weird after, try wiping to confirm if its a bug or weirdness after upgrading (you can always nandroid before wiping if you're unsure and roll back if its not related to upgrading).
Please let me know if you find any issues. Include model number and if possible a logcat as well.
Enjoy!
Congrats starlightknight!
Anyone tried this on the SM-T530?
What is ParrotMod?
This is a mod to greatly improve the performance of the 2012 Nexus 7, on ANY rooted Android 4.3+ ROM.
It doesn't work on Nougat. I can't fix it, because I don't own this device anymore - I gave it to a friend's little brother.
Feel free to fork it and fix that.
(Got a 2013 Nexus 7? Use this version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...eta-1-parrotmod-improve-2013-nexus-7-t3375928)
Download:
https://parrotgeek.com/dl.php?file=ParrotMod_Universal_2016-08-31.zip
Use this one if the other one doesn't improve the speed: https://parrotgeek.com/dl.php?file=ParrotMod_Universal_2016-10-17.zip
GitHub:
https://github.com/parrotgeek1/ParrotMod_Nexus_7_2012
Feel free to fork/pull request! But always credit me if you make something based on it and tell me in a PM or email.
IMPORTANT NOTE
ParrotMod needs 8MB of free space on the system partition. Don't use huge gapps packages.
ParrotMod requires a recovery that has BusyBox built in. (All versions of TWRP do. CWM does not.)
PLEASE disable IO scheduler/RAM/read ahead tweaks in kernel apps. They override ParrotMod's meticulously optimized settings.
REQUIRES LATEST SUPERSU INSTALLED FIRST https://download.chainfire.eu/supersu-stable
EVEN IF YOUR ROM HAS BUILT IN ROOT LIKE CYANOGENMOD, TURN IT OFF IN SETTINGS, THEN FLASH SUPERSU!!
Does NOT support PHH/MagiskSU, ONLY SUPERSU
If the installer warns you about TRIM on boot being disabled, it's a good idea to schedule TRIM using an app like Trimmer, or just leave your tablet on overnight (on silent) instead of turning it off, so it can automatically trim.
You can tell if ParrotMod is working by checking if the file /sys/block/mmcblk0/queue/read_ahead_kb contains "0", using a root explorer. Do NOT use ROM Toolbox or Root Browser, otherwise you will not be able to see the folders. Use Solid Explorer or FX.
Features:
FLASH MEMORY SPEED INCREASE! up to 4x better performance WITHOUT F2FS OR DYNAMIC FSYNC
Auto trim at boot, but ONLY for Samsung flash storage (it is too slow for Hynix/Kingston)
Uses ext4 but can use data/cache f2fs
Audio stutter and multitasking fix
Miracast enabled (but it freezes on disconnect unless you unplug from the receiver end)
Can set up device without Wi-Fi
Bluetooth 4.0 enabled (BLE/GATT/SMP), CVE vulnerabilities fixed (for 5.x)
More apps open at once (minfree tweak, scheduler tweaks, 64k log buffers, zram optimized)
LCD color fix (no Nvidia smartdimmer/Prism)
Internet optimizations
Can use more storage space before it doesn't let you download things
Survives ROM updates with addon.d
Tethering without carrier checks on 3G Nexus 7
Speed up full disk encryption
GPU optimizations (without OC!) and hardware acceleration properties, decrease GPU RAM usage by 4.4mb per app!
Reverted to dlmalloc for reducing ram usage / ART_USE_HSPACE_COMPACT enabled for better garbage collection [Not on 5.0.x]
Instructions - From unrooted stock 5.1.1
Download the KingRoot apk from here on your tablet, install it, ignore the warnings about the app being unsafe, and tap Root. If it says root failed, try again. It will eventually work.
Install Flashify from the Play Store
Download the latest Universal zip in the download link above on your tablet
Download the SuperSU zip from https://download.chainfire.eu/supersu-stable on your tablet
Open Flashify and install TWRP recovery, the latest version
Open the KingRoot app, tap Menu 3 dots icon, General settings, uninstall KingRoot
Delete the KingRoot and Purify apps
Plug your tablet into a computer! (not even a charger) otherwise it will freeze on the next step. This is a bug in the tablet itself.
Reboot your tablet while holding the power and volume down buttons. If this does not work power on while holding BOTH volume UP and DOWN.
Scroll with volume buttons to Recovery mode and tap power button
You will see a Google screen and then TeamWin logo, just wait
Tap Never show this screen again and Swipe to allow modification
Tap Install
You will see the files on your internal storage, go to Download folder
Tap on ParrotMod_XXXXXXX.zip
Tap add more zips
You will see the files on your internal storage, go to Download folder
Tap on UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.XX.zip
Swipe to confirm flash
When it finishes installing tap Reboot System
Your tablet will reboot
Wait 30 seconds for the device to settle
Enjoy the improved speed! (You can delete ParrotMod_XXXXXXX.zip now)
Extras
Fix for speaker/headphone buzzing while charging: https://parrotgeek.com/dl.php?file=ParrotMod_ChargingNoiseFix.zip
Upgrade notes
It is safe to flash new ParrotMod versions without wiping data.
IF YOU UPGRADE MAJOR ANDROID VERSIONS YOU MUST WIPE SYSTEM, FLASH THE WHOLE ROM, AND REINSTALL PARROTMOD.
UPGRADING ROM BUILDS WORKS FINE! In ROMs with addon.d support, it will even keep ParrotMod installed.
Please don't use with ParrotMod:
L Speed/any other "supercharger" like tweaks. I will ignore any support requests if you use them. Most are very badly programmed/full of placebos.
Disable journaling zip (it conflicts with my script, and doesn't improve performance)
Don't limit background processes, it might even make the tablet SLOWER. As of version 2016-04-30, the installer script removes this setting from build.prop automatically.
Known Bugs
Doesn't work on most Nougat ROMs
Miracast will freeze the tablet on disconnection unless you disconnect from the TV/dongle side. This is a common Tegra issue.
The optimizations to the ART runtime do not work when Xposed is installed, and you will see reduced performance! They also don't work on 4.4.x or 5.0.x.

Thanks to bangsergio on XDA for testing several dozen beta versions.
Thanks to @nereis for showing me a zram tweak.
How ParrotMod Works
ParrotMod works by trying to counteract the slow flash storage speed, by decreasing unnecessary reads and writes, and also optimizing how well processes share the bandwidth.
To optimize RAM, it also changes minfree values, replaces libart and libc with optimized versions (reverting to the memory allocator that was in 4.4.4), and enables zram (but in a less CPU intensive compression mode).
It also enables GPU clock scaling instead of throttling based on CPU speed, to improve performance in GPU-bound games. It also disables Nvidia PRISM adaptive backlight to fix washed out screen in videos.
It increases the CPU priority of audio players, and the hd-audio0 kernel thread, to fix sound stutter when multitasking.
Finally, it increases wifi transmit power and noise filter in nvram.txt to increase wifi range.
I also made my own patch to enable Miracast.
Looks nice :3 Sounds like a very good ROM for newbies, I'd be happy if you'd do the same ROM with the 3.4 kernel when it comes out and CM13/Android 6.0 AOSP.

Maybe if I have beta testers. The Nexus 7 is now in the hands of its (much happier) original owner. Almost all of the mods in this zip except /system/lib and mira4u apk should work M though. Also probably tilapia if you remove the assert in updater script which I will do soon
To make it even simpler for newbies, why not use Wugfresh to root from stock 5.1.1? It's so much easier than your method.

Is this a rom or a simple mod to install over stock lollipop, because the downloadable zip only has 13mb?

Doesn't that erase data?
[This post was for a test feature which has been merged into the mod]
well this is my personal experience with this rom
coming from virgin unrooted, locked bootloader, never been into the darkside with my given by best friend nexus 7 (2012 and 16gb)
always OTA updated until 5.1.1
can't stand with lag and everythings else.
a litte bit google and found this thread.
so i factory reset my nexus
download parrot rom (saved in download folder)
download kingroot (saved in download folder too)
install es file manager from playstore, browse to download folder, install kingroot
running kingroot
download super SU
install flashify from play store
running flashify and choose recovery, choose TWRP, download and flash TWRP. after finish press back button
uninstall kingroot and purify
reboot into recovery (power off first. power on while holding BOTH volume UP and DOWN) until boot screen appear. -in firstpost say just power and vol down, well is not working for me. i have to hold both volume keys.
in TWRP recovery backup my current rom (just in case no body knows whatt would happend in the future)
after that select install
select parrot
add super SU
and waitt........
viola everything running smooth as butter. no more delay.
will stay in this rom for now.
just hoping may be in the future just add playstore. so we can download everything else we need and no redundancy.
thank you for your effort making this rom

Yes, if you open the zip and delete the contents of /system/priv-app and /system/app. Also delete any thing in the updater script that has delete(...) or delete_recursive, and the line in the patch prop.sh that has lmy47v in it. Then rezip
if you use it on marshmallow it will bootloop unless you delete libstagefright_wfd and libMira4U. But then miracast won't work
If your rom has stagefright fixed delete libstagefright_EVERYTHING-BUT-wfd.so and libutils and libcutils
I'm going to make a universal version later, sorry
EDIT: you have to flash SuperSU even if your rom includes built in su

Sorry for OT. I know this issue and I know how to resolve it. It's a problem with the flat cable of the micro USB port. With a little tear down you can resolve the problem. Take off the back cover, screw the speakers and USB board, detach flat cable and put a piece of transparent tape above it in order to make more pressure on pins. Reassemble all the components and take a look if the problem still here
Interesting.
Cam I flash this over my already rooted device from or will I need to start from scratch again.
