[Q]Problem with editing ramdisk - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi
I have unpacked KXP kernel with TWRP,and I wanted to put TWRP in Lupus JB kernel.
Recovery is in "ramdisk-recovery.cpio" file, but that recovery has one problem,it is set to 400x848 resolution...
So I wanted to change it,but I can't do anything with that archive, opened it in archive manager, extracted ui.xml file(that's file with resolution) changed resolution in it to MDPI,and I tried to put it back again in opened "ramdisk-recovery" but archive manager always says that the file is only for read.
Please someone help me,I really want TWRP in my kernel.
The "ramdisk-recovery" is attached.
I packed it to rar, because I can't upload files with .cpio extension to attachments.
Thanks

I remember that the screen resolution is set in twrp before compiling the ramdisk, so I am not sure it can be edited afterwards. Maybe Mihahn can help you because he compiled twrp for his mdpi device, but as I recall he couldn't figure out how to pack it into the kernel.

Yes, until now I couldn't figure out how to pack it into a kernel or how to boot the rom

Could you help me with just changing the ui.xml?(I want only to change resolution, because this TWRP is just too big)

I unpacked the archive on my other PC with Windows Vista using 7zip, ubuntu didn't work. I have the ui.xml and the whole folder, do you want it?
And which resolution do you want? 320x480?
Maybe this could help you

Yeah,I just want 320x480 resolution in ui.xml.
I also extracted it,and changed it,but I can't pack it to ramdisk-recovery.cpio again.
Can you put modified ui.xml into the ramdisk-recovery and send that to me?
Thanks

Sorry, my Ubuntu won't work and I have to try to fix this. But if you can unpack everything that you have the whole ramdisk-recovery.cpio unpacked you could search for a tool how to pack it again, or is the error when you build it again?

I tried to pack it,but everytime when I pack it using command,it's small[it's 1,1 mb(original ramdisk-recovery was 4,4 mb)] and also it's adding file called "directory.cpio" to packed ramdisk-recovery.cpio.

can't you just take the recovery.cpio out of mihahn's build and put it into CSs ramdisk?

Ok,I'll try it again.

Lupus kennel "Devs r working on it, So don't mess up with Ram disk and get into loop "

Okay,good to know.
I especially want to put this TWRP in Paranoid kernel.

I havent tried using it,so if anyone is willing to test it,post your results in the comments, and i think it can be installed via recovery...

Being a smartass I changed the framework.res to the one in the zip and I had to do a clean wipe and flash to get out of a bootloop...If anyone has something to add to make this work, please do...
Hi,
How i can flash this files because it's a .RAR format??? is not a zip for recovery flash??

Maybe, but you would have to change build.prop and settings.apk for it to work
for me don't work with latest MIUI rom, install aborted via recovey mod.
ps: how i can change build.prop and settings.apk because im noob
or if you have ready to install .zip xLoud 2.3.3, build.prop and settings.apk for MIUI i can test it.
thanks
For a flashable zip you must have to add à updater scrip

RAR and ZIP are two completely different compression methods, why would changing an extension do anything?
The OP said you have to extract the .rar (using WinRar) and put the two folders inside the Xloud 2.3.3 folder (Which is inside the rar) and put them into a .zip folder... how hard is that
he did't said anything like that.
anyway.. i've manually updated each file (of course after setting the right permissions to rw-r--r-- just like the originals). it doesn't work... xloud works but is still as crappy as 2.3.4
ooo... I miss 2.3.3 loudness... why sony had to brake it after just one firm update...

Well...I am not that good with development so I cant find what's affecting xLoud
I changed framework.res on my phone tryin to flash this and I had to do a clean wipe and a flash
It is the 2.3.4 firmware with reduced loundness, not much to do with xLoud

Can i change it ? i hope you have example file for xperia live
I've attached png's from CM7.2.
Extract it and replace it in your ROM zip. It should work ok.
You can always restore the original.
And always do a nandroid backup before messing with system files
Thank you so much i will try it .
Sent from my WT19i using XDA

As you are already on linux, download android kernel kitchen from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659584
Then unpack the cm9 boot.img and in the ramdisk, copy logo.rle. Then, unpack cm10 kernel and replace the default logo.rle with the one you just copied(Cm9's bootanimation). Then repack CM10 kernel and flash it to your phone. If you need to edit cm9 boot animation, then convert the rle file of cm9 to png. Make the changes and again convert it back to rle and place it in the cm10 ramdisk. Everything can be done using the kernel kitchen.
Press thanks if I helped.

He just needs a boot animation, not the boot logo...
You can just make one by editing the images via adobe tool
And then converting it into a flashable zip...
No need to open the entire kernel ramdisk... Thats a too lengthy and complicated method

[Q] changing font

hi
when i had "desire c" with arabic rom i change driodkufi-regular.ttf with driodnaskh-regular.ttf and change permision then my arabic font changed but now in desire x , when i do that (driodnaskh-regular.ttf=358kb and droidkufi-regular.ttf=79kb) and restart my phone not any thing changed and when check the /system/fonts i see that droidkufi-regullar.ttf comeback to 79kb again ,
is there any body know how can fix the fonts that after restart phone dont replace that with the orginal font?
thanks
HTC implemented some sort of security to their newer devices where you cannot write to the system as the kernel will reset it.
What you can do is adb push the font in recovery, or make a flashable zip for the font and flash it in recovery.
Basic thing is any change to system, to make it work properly you need to do it at recovery level

thanks for guide
is there any way or references or others that i can make a .zip file to flash font from recovery
thanks again
Here is the stock fonts for my ROM which is a flashable zip.
What you can do is open it with an archiver (I use 7-zip), and replace it with all the fonts from your current ROM and name it as stock fonts (you need this if something goes wrong as not all fonts may work for your device).
Then make another one and put in all the fonts that you want to change and name it as modded fonts zip.
So flash the modded fonts zip and see how it goes.
If some fonts make your device stuck, reflash back your stock fonts zip.

Use Aroma File Manager from recovery to do the same copying you do when the phone is on. You have he link in DesX Index.

I found a way to defeat the write protection on other HTC devices. It might work on this one device too, if somebody wants to help, send me a pm.

hello babakhad, I have some question..
I see there's so many fonts on the Stock_fonts.zip, so I just have to delete it all and put only one font that i want to use? Only one .ttf file? If I only put one .ttf file, will the font in the lockscreen change too?

Okay. But if you try to edit it again, make sure the settings doesn't make it unstable.
