I have a haipad I9300 mtk 6577 it is an s3 clone. I have root and delete some bloatware. Few days ago the camera start show Black screen and seems freezer... Sometimes shows the message "cannot Connect to camera" and you can't use it. After a lot of try you notice a "click". And then camera start work. I already try every reset and also different camera app no success. Very frustrated I try the 4.2 camera but with the same result. Really need your help or I ll throw this phone away!

No one has an idea? It seems there are some kind of issues with the camera driver. The operating system fail to communicate with the camera. Another strange thing also the Torch app is involved. In fact also the Torch app has problems and sometimes freeze... It is connected of course... My friend has the same phone with camera working, maybe I can copy the "drivers" or other camera Files from his phone to mine? Any idea wich ones?

I tried to delete the old camera apk and installa brand new...I give to JB 4.2 camera a try to see if it works...nothing still the same. Black screen and after several touch ask for a force close. I guess is not an hardware problem because sometimes it works...what can I do?
I notice if I press several time and I force close then the camera app cannot connect to camera. This happen 4 or 5 times...then if I am very lucky the camera rebirth and start working again...It seems there is a kind of problem between the app camera and the camera hardware...because every camera app have the same issue, so maybe the problema is after...maybe some libs or something like that...any idea?
Odd update...I have a torchlight app with its widget. I notice the torchlight has the same issues of the camera. In fact it freezes and often I need to force close. The strange thing is if you turn on or turn off after few timers you can heard a kind of "click"...the same click you heard when you activate the camera...after that if you turn on the camera it is working. So I guess the torchlight and the camera are linked in some way. Of course I try to unistall the torchlight app...nothing the camera still not working.
Any ideas?

if something using start using camera (for example torch widget app) then other program cannot access to camera,so if program was not design for that case it will crash. (I know this as When I writing my app i spotted the same problem as You. ).
So i guess something using camera and that cause your problems.Try to find how many programs/services use camera and close all of them and then check/
That's my thought...in fact I'm pretty sure something is bothering the camera app...but...I did an hard reset, so a clean system, but the camera still freeze so I assume is not an application I installed. How can I check which application is accessing the camera?

I tried to edit also the build.prop it seems to work for a bit...then same old problems...
I've made this thread to mainly know if this could be a simple random software crash issue... What worries me most is if it could be the start of an hardware failure.
I have an S3 I9300 since October and there were 2 times where my back-facing camera seemed to crash into a green screen, both in apps.
1st crash happened in MixBooth last month, the camera preview screen was fully green. Exiting the program and opening the official camera app seemed to fix it.
2nd crash, today, happened in Barcode Scanner. The camera preview screen turned green, with some flickering lighter-green lines. It also completely froze the device and I had to force shutdown by holding the power button.
Has yet to happen in the camera app itself, but I'm worried if it's for certain an hardware issue related to internal connections or otherwise.
Unless these happen with software glitches/crashes as well? I found a person showcasing a similar green-screen issue on the S3 (can't post link so Google for "Android Camera Preview is incorrect on Samsung Galaxy S3"). It's not quite the same green pattern, though it seems a problem encountered while developing an app that uses the camera.

No, didn't install ExynosAbuse or anything that gains access to root.
Green Screen in camera
I have had the same issue happen to me a few minutes ago.
I was using the stock camera app and it just suddenly froze onto a green screen.
I have owned my galaxy s3 for less that 24 hours so I am hoping this isn't a recurring problem.
Have you figured out if it was just a software bug?
Not completely sure, but it has yet to happen again... I'd guess if it was hardware its frequency would increase...
Though I did find a thread from 2010 over at the androidforums in regards to a green camera crash on the Samsung Transform that would fix itself with a reboot (see "Support Camera problems?"), so I guess in that case it could be a software crash similar to the ones we just had.
Intresting. I suppose it is just software..
We will be getting a 4.1.2 update pretty soon and that should will iron out any small bugs such as the camera issue we are having.

I have the same issue using omega rom 35 .
When i startup my s3 and i use the camera it shows the preview ok .
When i close the camera app and open it again my preview turns green .
However taking pictures works but rather useless if you don't have a preview .

I believe that got to fix this issue - had downloaded Ad Detector software from Google Play, and had noticed that there were 29 apps with AdMob plugin on it - had deleted some of the infected software and the camera is now working?
If you have free software installed in your mobile, try to delete it and check it if your mobile camera is working again ...
*If I am using the camera app that came along the phone its good. But If i am using other photo apps like picsart or*instagram the *screen looks dark and cant see anything through the camera. It looks dark.
And also other apps like*qr code and Google goggles they also *looks dark through camera.
Its running jellybean 4.1.2 out of box.

Same problem with mine xolo q800 too. most of other xolo q800 users might have not point it out coz they may not be using other camera app other than stock one. i think its a problem with their cheap BSI sensor, which is optimised by their stock camera app but cant or not able to optimsed with other camera apps downloaded from google play. Its a firmware defect so its only can be solved by XOLO next firmware update which may or may not be possible.

I have the same problem with Xolo Q800. I'm using applications that uses the camera, like goggles, Camera MX, Camera JB+, Satellite AR, Skype, QR Barcode Scanner etc... All these apps, the camera images are dark, except for the Camera App that came pre-installed in the mobile, which works fine.
However, I noticed this in Camera JB+ (I downloaded from Play Store). Initially, when i open Camera JB+, the image will be dark. Then i go to camera settings - Scene Mode, which was set to Auto. Change this to any other mode, like "Night Mode" or "Sunset". Then this mode will work perfect. Surprisingly, when i switched back the Scene Mode to "Auto", the images are now as perfect as the actual camera app. But, I have to do this every time i open the Camera JB+. Also there is no way to do this other camera apps like skype or goggles.
Does any one know any solutions?

Problem solved....
to use the camera with other apps u have to flash a custom rom.....i have flashed ultimate v2 custom rom in my xolo q800 and the problem is solved...in stock rom during video call in tango and skype screen was dark like other camera app so i decided to flash a custom rom which worked..

I was trying to root my phone Xolo Q800 some days back and I might have done something wrong, Since then I was not able to access my Camera(Front&Rear) it happens random, I'm able to see the app sometimes but when I try to access I get "Unable to connect" message. Its all just random.. works, not works, unable to connect, camera app disappears, green image it just cant stick to one thing. Of course most of the times it wont appears.
Finally I have routed my phone and applied some custom roms and its still same.. Please I would need your help in this case.. !
Do you think if this is something wrong with their latest sw update roll out ?
Any suggestions or similar issues.. Please put them here... Thanks

I recently bought an Xperia M4 dual.
First thing I did I rooted it.
However now I can't use the front camera.
The icon to switch cameras is just not available in the app.
When trying to use the portrait app, which should normally launch the front camera, the app crashes.
I tried running tests, using the built in diagnostic app as well as the *# code. It doesn't work, like the camera isn't detected...
I looked around for solutions, some suggested reinstall a clean rom, repair using companion app, clearing cache etc...
I did all that.
The phone is now factory restored using an original Sony kernel (same region HK), the bootloader is relocked as well.
Still no way to use the front camera!
Did anybody experience the same thing and know of any solution for this phone?
When googling for solution I found several users had similar problem on 5.0 with nexus. So I think (and hope) it's a software problem.
Just note one cache can't seem to clear using the settings app: camera common is always 12.00kb even after clearing. Don't know if it's related or normal behavior.

I did an hard reset with wipe and everything has been OK for a day.... This morning again the same issue and I didn't install any other camera app

It seems that i /m facing the same problem here. I'm running the AEROM v5 and out of the sudden the camera stopped working, the flash as well. Every camera app that i used only opens the front camera and i cant even use the LED light as a torch. I contacted the seller and suggested a factory reset , i did it with no success. i think that it might be a "missing driver". I do not know a lot apart from flashing roms, recovery etc. Trying to work it through.
Did you try to open the cover and check if the camera is connected properly at the board?
Sounds like hardware.. Any other experiencing this?
