[Q] GSII shuts down when not in use - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am new to the S2 forum.
I have purchased my SG2 I9100 las month. It came with firmware version 4.0.4, PDA I9100BULPG and CSC I9100TCLLP9. I used ODIN and CF.Root-SGS2_XX_LQ5-V5.6-CWM5 to obtain root. The phone is working normally with full battery but after about 1 hour not in use, the phone shuts down and it is necessary remove and insert again the battery to wake up. The phone gets hot near the camera lens.
The phone works perfectely when in use with all the compilation buton working.
Please someone help me or guide me to solve this problem?

Try another battery or clean contact between battery and phone.

Try another kernel like Siyah 5.0.1... Seems like a small driver problem..
Using GT - I9100
Just hit the damn help button if I helped you.

i'm having exact problem. i bought my phone last week too and i'm running Alliance 5. i'm a newbie, and i would appreciate any help. thanks

From my experience, dead-on-sleep (DOS) issues are kernel related, and it's likely to happen if you play with undervoltage (UV) your CPU.

Problem??? Because it drops to 99% after you unplug the charger??? That's way within the tolerances of the charge circuit. The real question is what kind of battery life are you getting?
FWIW, My stock T-Mobile SGS-III (i.e. dual core Snapdragon S4) often displays 99% when I unplug the charger. However, it's inconsequential as I get a full day of service from this battery

Well thank you man i thought i was the only one having this problem but fortunatly my phones can last a full and sometimes more than a day.Have a nice day.
Mine still stays on 100% approx an hour later. I.use to have that problem, u need to use different kernel like phenomenal 2.0 or siyah 1.5 beta3

Weird
Hmm that's weird, cause mine doesn't jump to 99% when i unplug charger (on stock firmware)
What firmware are you using now ?
If I were to unplug my phone and not touch it or wake it up it would be on 100% for 1.5 hours.
samsung made it like this to prevent overcharging well it was on S2
Happens to me as well, i've assumed it's just the battery fuel gage calibration being a bit off, and that's likely what it really is. This doesn't really matter, the fuel gage isn't very precise anyway, by design, so who cares.
This is not a problem.
The battery meter is reset everytime your phone charges to 100%.
Unplugged and checked an hour later and still at 100%...stock non rooted.

Its supposed to do that to prevent overcharging or so I've heard but if you leave it plugged in for quite a while, it should stick at 100%.
Mine used to display 99%, but since a recent OTA update, it now stays on 100% once unplugged. Samsung must have altered it. Im on Stock Rom.

I've noticed this as well. It usually happens when I leave it plugged in overnight but if I remove it when it reaches 100%, I'm usually ok.

[Q] Galaxy S2 - Battery problem

Hello XDA I think this is my first question here so please try not to bully me to much in case I'm asking something that was answered before , although I did search for my problem and I didn't find it here.
So it started like 1 week ago , nothing actually changed to my phone since I started having this problem.
First please take a look at the 2 images i attached to see the odd behavior.
So it first begins when I see a STOP sign at the 3g connectivity icon, indicating me that there is not sim inserted(this is not true i always have my sim inserted) and the first thing i do is try to restart the phone, when it opens again the battery level is 1% and if I leave it like this for a few minutes it closes just like my battery would actually be empty, after I remove the battery and open it again it shows me something like 13% and rapidly discharging, after that drains also I remove the battery again and wait like 5 minutes and then try to open it again,it has more than 45% battery left, also if I try to use it as I would normally do if i really had that much battery left, the 3g connectivity icon turns to "No sim stop sign" and it just does that randomly even if I am not using the data plan at all.
I must mention that I did not charge the phone between the images!
I want to know, could this be from software or is it something physic damaged in my phone ?
I am using ICS 4.0.4 updated with Kies and my phone is not rooted.
Sometime i got the same issue, but I use custom rom and kernel.
Recommend you not to update via Kies, it may cause many problems. You may need boot into stock recovery ( Turn off, then hold Volume Up+Home+ Power, while boot logo appears, unhold Power button). In recovery, clear cache. If it does not resolve, try to download firmware from Sammobile, and flash using Odin, i think that 's better.
In my case, it may happen after flashing other kernel. Just remove battery from phone for 30 min or more, and then place it.
Its a known issue for all galaxy s2 handsets (probably with more, I'm not sure). Its a problem of the fuel gauge in our device which unfortunately cannot be fixed. Wiping battery stats won't help, as acknowledged by Google devs. However, I believe that an option in Siyah kernel is there to reset the fuel gauge, which may work (I haven't tested it personally).

I have had a similar problem on a Nokia phone. What I did was switched it off, charged it(from a company charger) , kept it off for some time with battery removed and later turned it on, and presto everything normal.
I don't know what could have caused it or your problem, but if you could give more info like whether you did something like installing an app or something we could recommend things like a factory reset from the recovery menu, or a cache/dalvik wipe and a reboot (which I would recommend to make sure it ain't software related)
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments
I expect the same from others.
idk

Remove the battery and switch it on after a couple of hours, and test whether your battery is working fine with an other phone.
After which if the problem still persist :
Try to turn it on in recovery or download mode.... If it again persist its time to send it for repair. If you can access download mode flash a rom and it might correct the problem.

I had a very similar with my Motorola Gleam which I solved by reinstalling the Motorola drivers, why don't you try that.

[Q] I'm afreid I might lose my phone.

Hi, thanks for caring.I have tried to solve these problems my self but I coulden't. I have two problems, but I want to tell you what happend before so you know the soure of the problems. A while ago I was srufing the net and I found a stock version of ICS for my regon. I installed it and rooted it and it was fine every thing is working no issue. after five month -now- I installed root browser lite and did a search then left my phone on the table. when I got back the phone was heated I close the app and tried to cool it down with my hands after a minute or so the screen shows horizontal lines on the half top of the screen for less then a second and went off. I pulled the battey and waited for a while then trun it on it work for a minute and a agine horizontal and off. I stard the phone in in CWM and restored my back up. It worked fine but I felt it need to wipe data and factory reset. Here is my problems
1. After useing the phone for more then 10 minute or more it gose off and when I tune it on it back to nornal.
2. The battery is weired, if i let my phone with out use it's fine but when I turn it off and turn it on agine the battey is 10 or less -not always-
( sometime when my phone is 0% percent I plug it on charger and it show thired of the battery is green.)
THESE PROBLEMS APPER EVEN THOUGH I INSTALL THE ROM AGINE WITHOUT THE ROOT.
Thanks for your patient I know it is long but I tried to include everything.

If it's not the battery, it's the kernel.
Tell us more about your device's info (model, rom, kernel, etcetera).

You are good, charge the battery till 100%. Flash siyah's kernel and see how it goes.
You can flash siyah with Mobile Odin, no pro version required.

The kernel is stock and it was fine before.
any way I found Siyah kernel S2-v5.0.1 should I go for that or there is a specific one you recommend?
Thanks you helped me a lot.
I installed Siyah kernel S2-5.0.1 and the problems are still there. I just tested my phone to see if it's work. I opned a game and play for 8 or 9 minute battery was 62% then my phone gose off. I tried to turn it on but I couldn't I plug it in charger and turn it on battery 33%. what is wrong?
someone please help me!

I think your right. thanks for your help. you people can close this subject.
I HAVE FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM IT WAS THE ROM.
I don't know what wrong with it. Any way I reinstall the stock kernel and flashed Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (Spain) and everything is GREAT. I'm so happy; I solved it!
Never seen that coming.
Glad you pulled it off

Galaxy S2 turns off

Since a few days my GS2 (rooted) turns off after rebooting.
When I change battery or put it to the charger phone will turn on, but will shut off after a servable time (time varies).
I tried different Roms but all do the same.
Also chancing battery doesn’t solve the problem (its firmly placed even laying down on the table it happends(.
I`m running 4.04
even when the phone isn`t warm I do have the problem.
Please how can I solve this

All of this started when you rooted your device?
What ROMs have you flashed?
Try JB leak, if you still have problems there you could be talking hardware.

I was experiencing random shutdowns myself on 4.0.4, it did not matter which version (Orange Branded or LQ5) so I flashed the 4.1.2 Spanish version of JB and now the phone is a lot more stable. No reboots.

you need to check in CM10 thread whether any other user faced similar issue.
check is there any app which is eating the battery if so uninstall and check. there are many threads available on battery issue feel free to search
Ive had the same problem with a S2 on 4.0.4. When wifi was turned on, the phone would randomly lock up. While it appeared that it was shutdown it was still draining battery but didn't respond to any button except when holding the power button for a prolonged time to restart the device.
However since Ive been running the the OTA JB update for around a week now the problem seems to be gone. Are there more people who had this particular problem and had it fixed with the JB update?
Flashing firmware always helps.
Factory Reset is also helpful (4.0.4's brick bug present, so read before you wipe).
@op either factory reset or go stockland.
