I own a Samsung Infuse 4G (and am stuck with it for now) running stock 2.3.6 Gingerbread (currently not rooted).
I've also owned a Samsung Captivate. For both of these phones, whenever external speakers are connected with the 3.5mm jack, music/media plays through the external speakers and any alarms will play only from external phone speaker. I've looked around and have yet to find information or an answer on a configuration file that might need to be edited or an app that can be installed to configure audio output to allow alarms to additionally play through the 3.5mm jack. Does anyone have info on this?
I am curious what people have experienced with other phone models, OS versions and how they act with and without 3.5mm jack connected.

OK so here's what I want to do.
I'm currently my Hero as a kar kit by plugging it in via my cars aux input. I also permanently use my phone to play my favorite tunes via the aux input. So when I get a call the music pauses and continues when I'm done talking.
I'm now interested in buying a bluetooth speakerphone as the hero does not have echo cancellation and audio calls echo's back horribly in my car.
Will I be able to pair the bluetooth speakerphone/headset and have music playing via the 3.5mm jack at the same time? Will calls be handled via the Bluetooth device or the audio jack?
Maybe you could ask a Mod to move this to General -> Q&As? It isn't Hero specific & you could get a bigger audience. You should mention what version of Android you'll be running though.

Ah ok, thanks for the tip.
I went ahead and bought the Bluetooth speaker without knowing the outcome. When the phone is plugged into the 3.5mm jack a headphone icon is displayed. When the bluetooth device is connected, a different bluetooth paired icon is displayed.
So what happens is exactly what I wanted - When listening to music via the 3.5mm the audio is played via the car stereo. When a call comes in the music gets paused and the audio get routed the bluetooth speaker.
Inexpensive and simple car-kit solution.

I have searched and tried a few apps but I am still unable to get the Speaker Phone
audio to output via the doc (I can get all the other audio just not the Speaker Phone).
My main issue is that while in the dock the audio is too low to hear the caller,
I can hook up a small speaker/amp so I can hear the audio a bit better.
I would rather not need to plug it into the top headphone jack.
So the questions are:
Is there a audio re-director that will redirect the speaker phone audio out
through the dock (via the usb, as it does with the other audio sources)?
If not can I mod the doc to tell it to push the speaker phone audio?
(I read the "Fun with Resistors" thread and did not find any info there).
Is there a good (that someone can recommend from experience) Blue Tooth Speaker
or Speaker/Mic that I can mount in the overhead that works well with this phone.

I have a BlueAnt bluetooth set in my car but it keeps dropping out and sounds crap.
I have a proper Samsung Car mount with a 3.5mm Audio jack that connects to my Audio in on the Car stereo.
Using this, I can play music from the SGS2 and hear things like GPS software instructions on the car speakers.
The question is, how do I get the phone side of things to play via the 3.5mm jack and use the built in phone MIC for the pickup?
Ie same as speaker phone but coming through the car speakers instead of the phone speaker.
Surely this is just a setting / registry change etc?

I want to find out if there is a way to let my android launch a certain application & execute some code when
a certain audio signal is received through the 3.5mm headphone jack.

I hope I'm in the right sub forum. I'm not sure if the question is device specific..
A friend of mine has built-in bluetooth in his car's stereo. It doesn't support a2dp however. There are apps which stream music 'disguised' as a phone call but the quality is way too poor.
That is why he connects his phone's (Moto G 2nd gen.) headphone jack to the stereo's aux-in to listen to music. Now I thought he could use a dac (= digital analog converter = usb sound card) so he wouldn't always have to plug in two cables (usb for charging and the audio jack for sound). Some devices apparently allow charging while in usb host mode (otg) others don't. My Nexus 5 does not but I read that at least the 1st gen. Moto G supports it. I couldn't test it yet since my friend does not live near me.
As far as putting out sound via the dac the setup works (on my Nexus 5). But since the dac does not only have a line out but also a mic in the phone's internal microphone does not work when the dac is connected. When making calls the phone uses the car's bluetooth so that's not a problem but speech commands via 'ok google' don't work since the phone turns off its microphone and the bluetooth mic is only on during calls. I tried connecting an external mic to the dac but it only picks up my 'ok google' if I hold it right next to my mouth.
Is there a way to keep the internal mic enabled despite the dac providing a mic in? Or are there any dacs without mic in? (I couldn't find any)

I found a solution:
1. In the android dev options usb-audiorouting can be disabled. So apps generally use the internal speakers and mic even if a usb dac is connected.
2. When using USB Audo Player PRO (to be found in the playstore) the player outputs its audio via the usb dac anyway without disabling the internal mic.
I don't know about stability and quality of this solution yet but I'll leave that for my friend to find out.
