Hello xda members. I have a problem with my sd card. Tried to repartition in cmw and something went wrong. Now I can only connect sd card to computer is to mount in recovery. Also it shows that sd capacity is 2.9gb instead of 4gb. I cant transfer any files to sd card because they didisappears. I have searched in forums, tried everything, nothing helps:crying:. Please help me

Format the sd card and start again. Don't mess with partitioning this time.

As a rule of the thumb please don't use CWW for partitioning your sd card as it cause errors. Try a tool called minitool. Use it to repartition your sd card with your card reader and computer. Then format it to FAT 32 file system. Hope it works for you !

The official organizaction that designates the SD card standards has a tool for formatting SD cards called SD Formatter which can be found here https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/. Make sure select the full format option.

SD card formatter also didn't help. It still shows 2.9gb available storage and I can't copy anything

Maybe there is hidden corrupted partition and some programs cannot see it. In recovery I can't mount sd ext. Maybe problems are with this partition?

Another suggestion would be to try using the gparted disk partitioning utility if you have linux you can download it from here gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php or use a live CD/USB version of it http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php.

As long as you just reformat the SD card and not any of your other hard drive partitions it will not harm your computer.

I use EaseUs professional edition for my PC, but they have a freeware version you could try for your SD card: I can't post links yet, but if you search google for EaseUS Partition Master home edition, you should find the link to download it.

Make sure under the bios setup options you have CD as first boot device rather then the hard drive this should allow you to boot the gparted live CD.

There is at least a loss of 800 MB. Using mini tool see if there are unused space. Try these steps:
1) First of all delete all the entire existing partitions .
2) Then create a single partition .
3) Perform a full low level format using FAT 32 file system.
4) See if this works otherwise your sd card has got bad sectors which might be unrecoverable even using scandisk

[Q] Screwed up sd and more

I just created a ext3 partition for my sd and it got screwed the phone couldnt recognise it said it has corrupted. ended up formatting it through phone now my firmwares screwed cant mount sd, keeps rebooting and not able to use the notification bar (TRIPMIUI mod by cf) now im reflashing my FW throuugh SEUS. Lost all my contacts and messages. Can somebody tell me where did i go wrong to cause this landslide of BULL?
- formatting sd should go first Fat32 then the remaining space go to ext2/ext3..
- both should be formatted in primary. The phone need to read the fat32, those ext2/ext3 are for the system link which only work after the phone boot up normally.
- Full backup is always a good way to prevent any unwanted landslide of fire...
I have the same issue. Partitioned my SD card and my phone could not find it after. I also tried to resize my fat32 partition with data on it along with a ext3 partition to see if it would find my sd card but had no luck making it work.

If you want to start over, reformat your SD card with this:
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/
For some reason, some of the custom roms do not recognize the SD card after you've created partitions. Reformat and try again.
Even when I reformat my sd card the phone does not detect it. I believe that its because of my ext3 partition. seems like the phone reads the 2nd partition (ext3) as the main partition of the sd card.
Where does the android system determine which partition is the main one?
There must be some type of script that tells the system what partition to look for. Am I right?
If there is then maybe we could mod the script so it, always reads from a certain position first.
Anybody know anything about something like this?

Nope. Usb mode doesn't allow for full unmounting. So formatting in usb mode will leave your memory card partially corrupted. Use card reader/cwm.

Remove EXT partition from SD-EXT

Hi all, I've accidentally partitioned the sd-card through recovery and I don't need any ext partition (from romracers recovery there wasn't any undo option). I've tried formatting it through windows or gparted. Windows recognise only the fat partition so that one is the only one it formats; gparted sees both but if I try to remove the ext and format everything as fat32, the phone reject the sdcard not mounting it and giving an error. Any solution please? I'd like to have the original storage space! Thank you all!
Delete all partitions with gparted, then partition/format in the phone.

Format again in recovery. Then choose 0 as ext position size. It will be deleted.

I used a HP format tool to do a quick format and of course the phone told me the sd was damaged so i formatted and got the entire space...hope not to lose future data...any suggestion for pictures instant upload?

External SD card permission issue

Weird enough suddenly I found all my external SDCard files have all permissions like:
---rwxr-x
Why !?? This happens to every file I copy onto it.
I needed them like:
rwxrwxr-x
so far, the only rough and long way I found is through Aromafilemanager and PhilzTouch recovery.
Yet I have to change the permissions one file at a time.
Can anybody help?
Sounds like a problem unique to you, I've never heard of it.
Flash the official stock rom, format your sd card in your pc using the industry formatting tool and test.
If the problem disappears then it was probably some combination of your individual setup.
Yep. Also ensure you haven't got any scripts running at startup. Sd permissions are set on boot and cannot be changed afterwards

Any mods that mount folders or swap storage.
Otherwise, something built into the rom.

@boomboomer
which filesystem do i have to use in formatting extsdcard 8gb via pc? exFAT / FAT32 / EXT4 / NTFS ?
moreover, in this post and following on dev rom thread, it seems it's a normal behaviour... am i missing sth?
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4
Fat32 is the normal filesytem.
If it's common to your rom then your chef is the best one to approach, he may have set a script or mod.

I read through about 7 pages of sd card issues on the s3 and thought i cant read anymore, so i thought i would just ask. I've just bought an s3 and i got my 64gb sd card from my old phone to my new one. Problem is i have data from other games in the SD and titanium back up files in the externel sd card. Seems the S3 has its own built in SD card and only reads from that. I copied my TB files from externel to the internel. Now the games still require Extra files although they are in the externel SD. So how in the world do i get it to read my Externel sd instead of my internel? I thought of copying the files but i have 16 gb internel, 64 externel so its not gonna work considering i have 39 gb left in my 64 gb one,

SD card corrupted after TWRP backup

Hello
I done a TWRP back up to me sd card and when i restarted my phone it said the sd card was unsupported or blank. I put the sd card into my PC and ran chkdsk. Chkdsk says it raw format and not supported. I tried testdisk which found no partitions and photorec witch found no data.
The computer takes about 2 minutes to realize the sd card was plugged in. My computer takes a further 5 mins to display the drive. Both testdisk and photorec take about 5-10mins to show the sd card in their menus. Disk management takes 1 hour to 'load disk config info'.
I tried right clicking in My Computer and formatting the drive but windows is unable to format it.
Not sure what to do. If there is any chance of getting the data off the drive I will try it. But I'm OK with getting the drive formatted and running again.
Windows 7
Sd card is 32gb class 10
Thanks

Read forum rules mate, not allowed to bump.
Here is a solution that might work, if you have a camera, put it in there and format it, if you have a second android device that is capable of having sdcrads, put it in there and format it.
Is your first backup? Or you done more without issues?
