Well. This is a step in the right direction
But. Can Ubuntu Phone OS run on Xperia P? And if so, will we see a port of it on P?
I would be happy if so
In 2 years maybe MAYBE. The number of developers on this platform is very low almost none. We cant get jb running, so what do you expect? Time will tell

Well actually I've read somewhere, porting Ubuntu to a device with Android is pretty easy.
I rly hope some great dev will port it, since I used Ubuntu almost all my life

I think cynogenmod is way better.
My Personal choice.
i would like that cm7 works properly with CAMERA
First a properly working cm7 and then will see
Sent from my MT15i using XDA App
CM7 is not too far off being complete from what I can see (yet to personally test it though) MIUI will need a fair bit of work to even get started on but it would be nice to be ported for the neo as it was my choice on my google nexus S phone I have.
Maybe we can get the camera driver edited to work with CM7 somehow, I dunno. will be wanting to help test a MIUI port if and when it comes available too.
You do realise that MIUI is made from Cyanogen and AOSP sources, and we are getting integrated into the cyanogen now so fully working cyanogen isnt far away then MIUI isn't far away too
Edit: wrong forum too yet again...
Gets kinda annoying seeing questions and opinions and polls that 'relate' to android development in the android development forum... there is a general for some of you guys...
Sent from my MT15i using xda premium
Yes I do realise that it is made from the sources but still will take a little time to port, main reason why I think development is slow is there is no camera driver (yet) would love to see both working on the neo too.
Hmm didn't realise it was in the wrong section man.

Just disappointing at times when ya go on Android development and there's a thread about things like this.... meant no offense
I know its exciting thinking about it it is for me too, when the camera drivers for CM7 are sorted I will make a port
I can't guarentee a bug free release but still I do plan on porting it to Arc when camera is working

Hi there guys,
I just read about Android 4.0,released today. As I promised from june,I wil try to port it to you guys (even because I'm not working at any project now).
The first alpha will be available in few days (if all goes well),maybe one week. I already got the SDK dump,so i could try to make it boot, but I prefer using sources. BTW,when CyanogenMod 9 will be released(CM8 is some crappy Honeycomb),I'll make CM9 port.
EDIT: I can't make the SDK boot. Libs are built from ARMv7,but we're ARMv6. So wait for sources to be released.
SOME INFOS:
ROM will be based on .32 kernel tree, then I'll switch to .35
Nothing in mind now.
Current status: Planning to download sources. I need to ask some help too, because I don't know for good this AOSP stuff. Will probably ask to lupohirp

What? ICS is for tablets as well as phones. I don't see any reason for it to look bad because of a small screen size.
I've been playing around with ICS in the emulator, and I've been wondering what the advantages will be for us over Gingerbread.
The UI overhaul seems nice enough, though ICS seems to be designed for devices with no hardware menu button. In the native apps included, there is a bar at the bottom which has buttons that were normally hidden and accessed by the menu button.
This basically means we'll be losing screen space in ICS, unless this bar can be hidden for devices that do have a dedicated menu button, though I couldn't find the option in the emulator.
The ram usage is more than double that of Gingerbread (45MB vs 98MB). Luckily our O1 phones will be able to manage this fine (mine is currently using 159MB, with 243MB free) but for other phones the upgrade is going to render them useless.
The big problem is going to be the sheer size of ICS. In the Gingerbread emulator the system.img is 89MB but for ICS it is 167MB. Which is of course the bare minimum for the emulator, 'real' Android with Gapps etc is bigger. CM7.1 takes up 154MB of the 190MB /system partition on my phone. To get ICS on our O1 we'll probably have to do some partition resizing, which means a smaller /data partition for our installed apps.

The minimum specs well exceed the hardware of our phone, but we're not supposed to be able to run JellyBean either, so I guess it might be possible
I wouldn't mind trying it anyway, it looks pretty good.

Canonical released Ubuntu sources for NEXUS phones last day.
And the portal says "Porting Ubuntu Touch is as Simple as Building CM". I think Ubuntu Touch can be built based on CM10 for XPERIA devices.
Reference : http://www.xda-developers.com/android/porting-ubuntu-touch-is-as-simple-as-building-cm/
There would be a lot of support if any of the Developer would kick-start this project.
We NXT guys were discussing over it yesterday....
1.We need a cm 10.1 to use as base, which we have but its still a bit unstable.
2. We need a 3.4 Kernel to get the best user experience and performance or else it will be more like miui jb! (lags a lot!!)
3. The version released right now is just a dev preview, hence many features aren't working on it yet!
In the end we all decided that we will port a better version! Which won't be long as the ubuntu devs will give updates fast cause they wanna make it the best os for every platform as they said at CES!
Thus, we will wait

Yup, its just Dev Preview, lot of things aren't working as I seen in most of the Videos out there. Ubuntu is collaborating with XDA Devs to make it work on different phones.
It just needs CM10 as base (I mistakenly wrote CM9 too which now corrected). Lot of devices are on the way for the build including SONY XPERIA T (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices).
Hope to see Ubuntu Touch Build from you.

Last time I checked we need cm10.1 !
Correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure that it was 10.1 and not 10 !
However we still need a 3.+ kernel for best performance!
