[Kernel][AOSP][7/20]HIRO Kernel - HTC Rezound

HIRO-kernel
Fast and Smooth Jellybean Kernel for the HTC Rezound.
What is a Kernel? The Kernel is the Foundation in which everything else builds upon in any software system.
[Car Analogy]: Kernel is like the Engine, Electrical system and the Transmission to a car. The Library, Framework and the Apps [AKA ROM] are the body frame and the rest of the Car.

Hey, we can be shift work pals...
I work a 28-day turn around, alternating (days-nights) 12hr shifts, as well (Hexcel Corp.).
Not a bad job, but the schedule sure sucks for family life.
Good to see some options popping up for JB Kernels! Thanks for this.

You can always flash another kernel if you have issues with an install. Flashing the kernel that you know works with your recovery should fix the bootloop. Nandroid should not be necessary.

So far no JB kernels have worked with my device when flashing through TWRP. I would have done that, just that I had nothing to flash. Besides, my nandroid was only like 2 days old.

Those using the initial build please update. Adaptive governor was causing reboots.

Awesome job bro. Can't wait for jb to stable out a little. Also.. you make cm9? You make cm9 nao! Lol jk jk keep it up

Just added this governor, time to test her out. If testing goes well I'll update later today
'abyssplug' - this driver mimics the frequency scaling behavior in 'ondemand', but with several key differences. First is
that frequency transitions use the CPUFreq table directly, instead of incrementing in a percentage of the maximum
available frequency. Second 'abyssplug' will offline auxillary CPUs when the system is idle, and online those CPUs once the
system becomes busy again. This last feature is needed for architectures which transition to low power states when only
the "master" CPU is online, or for thermally constrained devices.

Does this kernel have cpu oc or just gpu oc?
sorry for the dumb question because I dont have a rezound. I am doing this for someone else.

@iHateWebOS
Bring in the mpdecision update I did. It helps a lot.

[Kernel][AOSP] BasicKernel 02/06

Okay.. Most of you people know who I am.. and if you know me you know I am not much of a kernel dev ... Regardless, I love AOSP but while running CM10.1, I felt I was missing some things that were more readily available for a Stock ROM.. Things such as (unofficial)Voodoo sound, Overclocking and Undervolting.. So I went ahead and forked CM's kernel and added a few needed things.
Notes:
Thie kernel is for AOSP only!
This kernel include's codeworkx's downgrade to mali r2p4 commit from CM's gerrit.. In this commit codeworkx specifically states that there is a memory leak. Now I will also say this.. This downgrade greatly improves the graphical glitches found in the android 4.2 ROMS, IE no more keyboard funkyness etc... I have yet to see this leak myself and think the trade-off is worth it. If this causes serious issues for people let me know.
Features:
Compiled with the Linaro GCC 4.7.3 toolchain
Updated wifi driver
Unofficial Voodoo sound driver (otherwise this has not been reviewed and approved by Supercurio)
OverClock up to 1.8 Ghz
CPU Undervolting
Downgrade to mali r2p4 which fixed graphic glitches
ChangeLog:
A4 - initial release
A5
Compiled with the Linaro GCC 4.7.3 toolchain
Updated wifi driver

You say there is a memory leak with the downgrade, I assume this will affect performance? Do you know where the CM kernel is located, in case we want to go back?
Thanks for the development! Maybe we'll see a comeback of Gummy....or Liberty....
Its not bad. Not getting near the benchmarks i was getting with jelly beans and perseus kernal.
Ps: battery seems to be better on this now though(liquid 3.2.1)

you can always just reinstall CM right over the top to get the CM kernel back.. and I personally have not seen a performance hit on the GPU..The opposite really
Can any one try and see if skypes' mic works? I know it doesn't on the stock cm kernel.

not exactly true, although most of the time it is. Benchmarks matter when you compare apples to apples but not so when you compare apples to oranges.
So lets say you have CM installed on a phone.. you then run some benchmark. take note of the score. then you turn around and install a new kernel then rerun the benchmark.. I believe that is a fairly accurate way to show improvement. This benchmark will only show you a very small window of what has been improved and may not show other signs of what has been negatively effected. So as a way to test further you could run multiple benchmarks to help alleviate that issue.
Now if you use benchmarks to compare different phones, SOC or completely different OS's versions, that's when benchmarks really stop telling the truth.

I think I love you. For the first time in AOSP, my COMPASS IS WORKING! This also fixed my rendering issues with some apps on 4.2. :highfive:
I'm getting closer and closer to Paranoid Android being my daily driver. If only GPS and 4.2 camera weren't so flaky...
Re: [Kernel][AOSP] BasicKernel 01/31
Thanks for this option.
FWIW I'm getting pretty similar AnTuTu scores as with Beans/Perseus...

So since you're back in the game then, will we see Liberty on the Note.
Been running this kernel since this morning and everything is awesome. I've noticed better battery life and all I did was overclock to 1.8. I haven't played around with undervolting yet.
Thank you!!

Good Benchmarks?

What are some good benchmarks for the Rezound? I want something that I can compare different governors and io schedulers
I know about Quadrant Standard, but i don't get much variation with it.
I used Stability Test in the past but all it did was run for a long time and make my phone really warm, I guess its just supposed to Run all the CPU's?

i think stability test is like prime95 but for your phone. it'll bench everything max to check the stability of the system till it crashes but if it doesn't crash than its stable. which you should only use if you wer testing overclocks or unstable kernels ect..
and i think a place called PassMark has benches for all phones. what benching app are you using???? ill can post my results so you can compare if you'd like
im using badass governors on both cores with Sio io scheduler

BTW, I know a while back some people were having a "weaker signal" with CM, but after looking into it, it turns out the signal was the same, just the amount of bars shown was different. Meaning Sense was just mis-representing with a stronger signal than it actually had. You might actually have issues, but thought I'd mention it anyway.

The
Patch_Monkey Kernel
This is an aosp kernel based from CM 3.4.11
I CLAIM NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CODE USED IN BUILDING THIS KERNEL.
All source can be found on my github- https://github.com/jamieg71/kernel
I have been playing with kernels here and there and this is what I have so far.
All features have been taken from commits I found on Github
The majority of which I found by studying ThickLizard's
commit history but also as specified in the credits below possibly a few others as well
it would be much easier to track if I could learn to cherry-pick correctly.
Through trial and
(LOTS)
of errors,
I have managed to get running to a point that I feel is not a total fail...
How's that for instilling confidence?

Looks like the newest CM nightly ROM is now running kernel 3.4.11. Any idea what the differences are between that and 3.4.10?

Yeah its all somewhat minor. I'll be adding upstream commits from cm on next build so should be up to .11 in no time.

Flashing now, thanks for your work... Been on cm since decks first evo lte build but decided to try a new flavor.
I switched to pac a month ago for the goodies. Guess some sprinkles on my cake won't hurt.

Thanks for this. Was really missing options of Komodo(can't wait until you implement the other features =0) with the new ROM updates moving onto the new kernel base. Just installed on MIke's SlimBean port. All seems well except that on the initial boot and on another reboot I did I had to do a SIM pull at the boot animation screen as it sat there for over 5 minutes. But honestly I've seen the same thing on 3 different versions of Komodo on past builds of SlimBean so maybe it's a ROM thing.

Yup. I'm sure that would help.

O Jamie you are a sexy beast. No 3.4 kernel is the main reason I've been sticking with sense. But now, the possibilities are infinite. Thanks mate!!!!
