Please be more informative next time you post a question. Are you on 4.0.4 or what? And are you running stock rom (rooted/not rooted) or a custom one?
Sent from the Matrix

If you have the ROM that you get when you got the cellphone, then you will adviced if you have a update from samsung.
If you have a Custom ROM based on CM 10.1 [Google It] or AOKP [Google it] you can update in CWM [google it] without any wipe [Google it]
If you have a custom ROM based on Samsung, you need to wipe all the data and install it via CWM or ODIN.
^_^
sry for my english.

About your first point: thats the whole problem he stated.
About the second part: you're not completely right. If the OP indeed has a custom rom, then the updates from it (AOSP, AOKP or Samsung based) must be done like the developer says in his thread. @OP: in that case you won't get a 'Software Update'-notification, but maybe your rom has the Update Me-app or anything like it, so you can flash it through CWM.
If you (OP) are on a stock rom, then you have to flash the updates manually through Odin. However, if you're on 4.0.4, there is no update because it's the latest firmware.

Indian official ICS will be released this week in Kies.So just wait 1-2 more days.
I will not comment about that Indian ICS which is already here in some thread.
Indian official ICS release will not come through OTA.
It will be only through Kies.

Odin is safer than Kies in my opinion.
You can TRY the "memory crash" method when using zergRush. Just open a ton of apps and exit using the Home button instead of Back to fill up as much memory as possible (at least over 500 mb used), then use zergRush.
I don't know if it will work for you or not, but it's worth a shot.
If not, just flash a kernel that roots for you, like CF-Root or Siyah.
How the hell does it matter when you get the update.
Its the same Samsung ****!
Id say stay on GB or use CM9!
But then again thats what i think.

[Q] installing official JB release

Hi, i saw the official release for JB here http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s3-i9300-android-4-1-1-jelly-bean-official-upgrade-118073/
This is the actually official release right?
Also do i have to follow their guide or can i just flash it like i would any other custom ROM? Is a full wipe necessary? (i use full wipe script from android revolution HD on mike1986 post)
Btw is there a way to do full wipe manually on the recovery page?
Yeah its official jelly bean, follow everything they say down to the last detail, also....make sure you have the international variant of the S3 because inevitably, you WILL brick your device if you flash it on any other device other than the international (quad core, GSM) version, good luck

Re above .
Wipe phone and apply your original firmware .
Bit pointless flashing a JB rom only to remove it why not make up your mind what you want.Official Updates via Kies and OTA when they are released for your phone .
Or join XDA and flash stock roms on release . You cannot have both .

[Q] Updating With Another Country's Firmware

Hello, please, is it possible to download another country's official firmware from Sammobile and install on my Galaxy SII? Will I also be able to get official updates (like jelly bean 4.1.2) and install them in my country whenever updates are available in that country since i'm using that country's firmware?
I am still stocked with Android 2.3.5 and I really need to upgrade it to Android 4.0.4.
If it is possible to do so, please recommend a country from sammobile.com that I should download and install the firmware (preferably android 4.0.4) to my Galaxy SII. Thanks a lot.

try Kies for an update. Almost all countries have been upgraded to 4.0.3. and please don't install 4.0.4 it has got a super brickbug.
First of all, I really appreciate your quick response and advice.
When I used to try and update via Kies it tells me I'm using the latest update + I live in Nigeria and the latest update for Galaxy SII in Nigeria on Sammobile is android 2.3.5.
I recently upgraded my phone to the unofficial Galaxy SII's jelly bean, after I noticed a few irritating bugs, I decided to switch back to my stock 2.3.5. But there is one problem though, the baseband version is still I9100XXLS6 (the unofficial jelly bean baseband version), therefore, my Kies application cannot recognise it, it always says " Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies" when I connect it to Kies. How can I change it back to the original baseband version to be able to use Kies?
There are pictures to confirm this. Thanks

those few irritating bugs have been fixed by different developers, you can try a rom based on XXLSJ, which have these bugs fixed. Or you can even try Siyah Kernel v6 http://www.gokhanmoral.com/
How did you reverted back to Gingerbread. The correct is, Flash Official firmware download from www.sammobile.com with ODIN.
I reverted back to gingerbread using the backup I made previously before updating to the unofficial jelly bean. The backup still has the correct baseband, but I don't know why the unofficial jelly bean baseband version is still here. Do you think downloading and installing that from Sammobile will solve the baseband version issue? Thanks

Hi, if you are doing OTA it will be 4.2.2 or 4.2.3 at best, you will loose root, but not files or data.
Some apps may stop working or work differently, nothing to worry about.
Thanks and hows that? Major improvements? Something always weird with this one was the greenish tint when shooting with the flash... Is that fixed?
And there is a new chainfire's root out there i guess....

Just want to say this isn't correct. Don't know if it's mistyped or something else, but it should be 4.1.2 'at best'.
Last official (thus OTA available) update for S2 will be 4.1.2. Sad as it is, for today's standards it is still acceptable.
what do you guys think about the 4.3 like sentinel rom?

The OTA will probably fail.....the OTA package looks for a stock setup, and if you've modified that setup in any way (custom kernel) the OTA won't install.....even if it *didn't* fail, the kernel would be overwritten and you'd lose root.
If it were me, I'd make use of chainfires mobile odin, download a jb firmware from sammobile and update that way......

I just downloaded mobile odin + last firmware like you said, from Samsung Mobile and it's now crunching
thanks

Did you enable the 'ever root' option in mobile Odin?
If not, you'll have to root the phone afterwards (if you want to)
A good place to start is the PhilZ kernel (rooted stock kernel + touch cwm)

cheers, actually no ever root since I used the lite version eh eh... I just rooted with this method w/ Siyah Kernel. worked like a Charm... now I guess I will be busy customizing it.. it seems much faster between home screens I have to say!
thanks again for the help
Gab
Yeah....I guess that's 'project butter' or whatever it's called....it's supposed to give an overall smoother performance........
If you are going to stay with stock, my advice would be to 'de bloat' it.....I used Titanium Backup to freeze the bloat first, then delete it after I'd found out that it wasn't needed/critical for the phone to run.......

The thing that I hate the most on stock rom is that it drains battery too fast
...still testing it..
