At least try to type. Anyways, disable encryption would be the obvious solution

the thing is that i never had encrypted my device. so wat do i need to do??? i don't get the exact answer by the dev himself.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app

me thinks you need to learn the difference between rooting and installing a rom. the 2 are completely unrelated, and 'unrooting' your phone is a completely unnecessary step in your troubleshooting process.
ShoStock 3 does not encrypt the phone on its own, you had to have done the encryption at some point, or have done something to make the phone think it is encrypted.
Go back to stock using ODIN.
then try again

encryption was not done at any point. and if there were any it would had been found out when i unrooted my phone!!!

Just to verify, you did follow these instructions... I hope. I have not experienced any major problems, such as yours, with SHOstock3 since it was released. So try again, but slowly. Don't rush it.
"Full Wipe (in cwm recovery) REQUIRED unless coming from ([SHOstock3] v1.4 or greater) (If you have ANY issues Wipe and Format Internal SDCard after you back it up.)"
"Intructions:
You must be running a kernel with CWM.
~BackUP EFS
~FULL BACKUP
~Download*SHOstock3*ROM and place it on your internal SD card.
~Boot into Recovery~~~~Wipe data/factory reset<--ONLY USE THIS OPTION WHEN COMING FROM ANOTHER ROM OR WHEN A FULL WIPE IS REQUIRED
~Install SHOstock by navigating to the location on the internal SDcard in CWM.
~Reboot the phone"
If you have no luck again. Restore a back up or go back to SHOstock2. Worst case scenario, try to fix it with Kies.

Corrupted Root - How do i restart again?

hi guys,
i've tried looking for a solution, but have not found one.
After rooting, installing roms, themes etc, i have come to the conclusion, that my rooted s2 has become corrupt i.e. (either kernel or rom). The reason i know is that i have a fault with CWM and that is it won't detect sd cards. I have now tried 3 different microsd cards and none can be mounted, even though it shows "sd card mounted". Yet when i try to install a .zip file, nothing is found.
Rather than wasting time trying to figure out what the problem is, i'd like to restart ALL OVER again. That means actually getting the phone un-rooted, back to stock and then re-root and install custom roms again.
My question is how do i restart all over again?
If you can, boot into download mode and flash stock firmware with Odin.

thanks aiancalandorn, but that will NOT wipe the phone...i need total wipe...how do i go about doing that?
stock firmware is wipe version only.....it will wipe all data.
could u pls explain rohit how i do that? what software/method?
Sounds more likely that you're using CWM recovery incorrectly.

thanks for ur advice guys. For now, i have managed to setup checkrom+dk with ics 1.6 theme. i stopped using the phone last night approx 12 midnight - 100% fully charged. I've woken up and checked it at 10:45am....battery shows 99%, so thats hardly anything.
The only issue i have noticed with checkrom/dk is that there is a lag when pressing buttons or scrolling through applications...what do you guys recommend to fix this without putting a big drain on the battery?

How do I revert to complete stock?

I have galaxy sii GT-I9100 and I want to revert back to stock so i can cleanly install the new RR rom. Any help would be awesome. I was quite knowledgable with my old samsung infuse 4g, but this phone is a lot more complex than that one so please simple terms if possible
If you go to samfirmware download your desired rom then flash it in odin via the PDA section. This will return your phone to stock, but you will loose root. All the best.

If want to flash Reccuriton remix rom on ur s2 just root ur cell first than just install it from CMW there is no need to go complete stock for that...but if u r totally new to this after rooting make a BACKUP OF EFS first than start playing with roms.
Just flash stock firmware...... Download from sammobile.com samsung-update ....

If you want a fresh start just format system whilst performing your wipes. Only do this with a safe kernel as anything based on stock 4.0.4 will brick your phone. When I ever change ROMs I just run wipes and format system then flash my chosen rom. That is the correct site and you can flash any rom for your phone regardless of region. EFS back up is a separate tool which you download on to your pc which then backs up the EFS folder. There are other apps that do this too. I use them all, can never have too many copies of it.

So if I just do all the wipes, it should be all good? There is a lot of files that I don't want if they don't belong to my rom, should I delete some or what should I do? The basic thing I am trying to do is only have files from apps that I have and ones that the rom needs.

I understand what you're after factory reset, wipe dalvik and format system will give you a clean installation in terms of rom. If it's a complete wipe you can wipe the sd card from setting /backup and reset. But this will wipe music photos too. Once rooted you can always browse the directories and manually delete any unwanted files/folders. Please check your kernel first.

How to stock > custom rom > 100% same stock?
Hello,
did not want to start new thread with same name, but my question a little different.
So I bought S2 and I would like to play with some custom ROM of course. Not my first Android phone, but new phone new unknown things.
I read many post, but it is still not clear if I can make my stock rom and kernel backup, then root it, have some fun and if I need just restore stock rom and kernel and every thing would be as it was new?
I understand how to root and this CF-Root in Stock Recovery method looks like can do this. But will it be that way?
For example, with this method I have my stock kernel backup, also make stock rom backup, install some custom ROMs/kernels and later just install stock rom and restore stock kernel using this method and I am back to starting point?
Hi, to return your phone to stock all you need to do is:
Make note of your current ROM and download the same from samfirmware
Download Odin
Perform full wipes and format system in recovery mode
Then into download mode where you flash the stock ROM in the PDA section of doing.
Included will be a stock kernel and root would have been lost.
To reset binary counter look at the app triangle away by chain fire.
All the best.

To restore a back up:
Boot into recovery mode
In recovery mode enter back up and restored menu
Then select restore from external memory / sd card
Phone will restore to the time the back up was made.
Some kernels have different CWM menu layouts but the above should get you to the Nandroid backup you made.
All the best

[Q] This started as a TiBu Question, but....

Just doing a sanity check: using TiBu to restore system data should work (in theory) so long as you restore data that has been backed up from the same ROM, correct?
Thanks for any help.
EDIT: Having power key problems, please see posts #3 and #16 for updated information.
In case it really backs up and restores EVERYTHING - theoretically you're right.
Practically, I'm not sure it's the case. Since you're restoring while running a ROM, I'm not sure you can get everything to exactly the same state.
Thanks for your help, but this question was hiding a bigger one.
So until today, my phone has been working just fine. I'm still running an old, now outdated and unsupported ROM: ShirshirROM pre-alpha ICS. It's been my daily driver for almost a whole year now, works perfectly with Entropy's old ICS kernel.
Yesterday, I got tired of shell errors with Superuser (which I had been dealing with since the latest binary update), so I finally switched to SuperSU. Everything seemed to work fine afterwards, though I noticed some trouble with the power button being a little wonky, i.e. showing up the power menu when I hadn't pressed it or not immediately responding.
Today, my power button doesn't work correctly at all. I tried wiping cache, dalvik, then restoring a Nandroid of the same ROM/Kernel combo from way earlier this year. Key test in CWM also shows that all buttons register when pressed, EXCEPT the power one. Otherwise phone functions are perfect; I can make calls, send/receive texts, etc, I just have to plug in my phone or have something happen for the screen to turn on, and then I have access to everything. My question is, is this (God forbid) a hardware failure? That would be my worst nightmare, seeing as I'm almost exactly one full year out from contract renewal, and I don't have a lot of money to spend on a new one, nor do I have nowhere near enough expertise to try to fix it myself. What can I do?
P.S. The TiBu question was because in case the Nandroid fixed the problem, I could just restore contacts and SMS from TiBu since it is the same ROM, and be back up and running immediately.
P.P.S. As mentioned, I can get into CWM. This is done by pulling battery, sticking it in, and holding all physical keys until boot screen shows twice. But I can't use the power key to select any options, I have to use home. And key test shows the power button not registering. I'm hoping that that means power key may still work, but that's just me praying this is fixable.
So this problem didn't occur at all prior to installing supersu ?

No, as far as I recall. I'm not using supersu anymore since I'm on a Nandroid but power button still doesn't work. I have to find alternate ways of activating the screen, like plugging it into a charger or pulling the battery to restart :/

So I backed up stuff, then went ahead and flashed bone stock using the Odin3 One-Click from 2a in creepy's guide. I can't get past the initial setup wizard though, because Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps), Calendar Storage (process.com.android.providers.calendar), and other Google apps processes keep force closing when I click the Android to start. I was able to boot into stock e3 recovery (again using three-button combo), but I can't select anything using the power key.
I didn't do a full data wipe/factory reset before flashing, and I can't get to the main menus to do so because my phone won't get past the setup wizard, which keeps crashing. What do I try next?
EDIT: I know that I was able to make selections using a CWM-enabled ICS kernel; home key functioned as select. I have the CWM-flashable zip, and I wanted to know if there's anyway to flash this kernel using Odin. I know it won't boot (custom ICS kernel with Gingerbread stock rom), but if I can get into recovery, I can use the home key to do a full data wipe/factory reset, then I'd Odin stock kernel+ROM again and see if that fixes things. So my question is, how do I flash a CWM-zipped kernel in Odin? (You can tell I never use Odin)
EDIT2: I'd still like to know how I can flash a CWM-zipped kernel in Odin, but I'm gonna hold off on it as it would trip the counter and I found out my phone is still under warranty, hooray! They're sending a refurb'ed replacement that should be here in a couple days, I can test that out and see if I can get me up and running again before I decide to do something really rash like trip the counter. It sucks cause I'm going out of town on Thursday but the replacement is arriving Friday, and I won't be back until next Wednesday. I'm stuck using my old iPhone 3G until then :/
I do know you can't flash this from Odim. You'll need another kind of file. Tar file... I don't remember.
Don't know where to find it.
I don't think you should back to stock. Just wipe and formating everything could test it.
Find an app that allow you to get recovery from android like rom toolbox lite.
Download mrRobinson AeSedai Aroma.
After formating and wiped everything, flash your rom and don't get out of recovery. Flash AeSedai just after. Flash gapps and KERNEL from AeSedai.
Must be an cm10 or aokp rom... Any rom from that source.

How would I format and wipe everything if I can't get past the setup wizard on bone stock 2.3.4? I can't install apps, make calls or texts, nothing. All I can do is select the language and make emergency calls. I can't wipe in stock e3 recovery either because the power button doesn't work.
I need a way to either Odin a kernel from which I can use the home button to make selections, or find some other way to remotely format and wipe my phone. Is there a way for me to put my phone in USB debugging mode so I can maybe use ADB? I can't access the settings menu...

Nah, it's power key. I double checked again this morning. Oh, and I guess it's called 3e recovery, not e3 xD.
One other note, when pulling battery, then putting it back in, phone autoboots. I have to hold buttons then place battery in to boot to recovery, and for download mode, I have to have it plugged in, buttons held, then place battery in to get to download mode.
EDIT: Would anyone be willing to do me a huge favor? I want to find out if Entropy's DD GB kernel, the Odin-flashable tar one, can use home as select in CWM. Would someone be willing to temporarily flash DD_01242012 from here to check for me? It's a CWM zip, the changes are very tiny between it and the previous 01232012 Odin one. I just don't want to Odin it myself and trip the counter to find out it was useless, especially since I don't have a jig to reset the counter.
So an update:
While looking around for a way to root my new refurb model which came shipped with stock ICS, I found creepy's Stock ICS with root package, and I thought, "I told AT&T I was on ICS, I guess I should actually put ICS on my phone instead of leaving GB (UCKH7) on there. Maybe since I was on ICS before I can get past the gapps force closing too and do a factory reset from the settings menu." Sure enough, after flashing stock ICS, I was able to get past the darn wizard and toy with it. I do have problems of course: calendar still force closes, and the phone will randomly reboot after some period of using it. But at least I was able to access stuff.
My data was all still there, all pictures, contacts, settings, etc. I realized that before I do a data wipe/factory reset, I should heed the emmc superbrick bug warning and NOT do that with stock ICS kernel. I still had ES file explorer and root access, so I went in and manually deleted all data as much as possible, to make it look like my phone did have a factory reset done as I said to the AT&T representative. I've deleted wifi access points, browser history/cookies/cache, all contacts, texts, pictures/videos, downloads, all CWM zips and backups, all installed apps, all accounts that were signed in...
My newest questions are:
1) is there anything I'm missing that I should delete so that my phone does not look like it's been modified in any way? Also, any personal data I'm missing that needs to be deleted? I still have root access so I can delete anything I want.
2) Should I go ahead and risk the brickbug and actually do a factory reset/data wipe, or should I just let it be since I've deleted most things manually (and not potentially send them a useless brick lol)? Actually, since I'm rooted, I can install Mobile Odin to flash a CWM-enabled kernel, then wipe data/factory reset safely from there; that is, assuming my phone doesn't do a random reboot in the middle of flashing the kernel. I do run the risk of it rebooting while flashing and possibly bricking something else. So should I do that and take that risk, should I take the risk of wiping data from the stock kernel, or is there no reason to take either risk anymore?
3) Is there anywhere I can find a non-rooted stock UCLE5 ICS Odin-flashable tar, that I can flash before sending the phone back?
How about:
1. Flash back to stock GB
2. Wipe Data
3. Upgrade to stock ICS via kies or OTA

Thanks for your help, but I can't do that. If I could, I wouldn't be stuck in this predicament.
Power key doesn't work at all, but it is necessary to make selections in stock 3e recovery. Hence, I can't wipe from recovery, either on stock GB or ICS.
Stock GB rom doesn't boot past Setup Launcher due to gapps force-closes. These force closes prevent me from reaching the settings menu within stock GB to do a wipe there.
My two options for wiping data are using stock ICS ROM (under settings menu), or flashing a custom kernel using Mobile Odin, then wiping with the home key in CWM. Both are risky: stock ICS ROM uses the stock kernel to wipe, possible brickbug there. My phone currently experiences random reboots without warning; a reboot during a Mobile Odin flash could also brick something. My question is, should I do either one, or neither at all?
What about wiping through ADB?

Well, that previously wasn't an option on GB since I couldn't put the phone in debugging mode, but I can now in ICS so in theory it should work. The question now is, will the phone do one of its random reboots while I'm working with it in ADB...

Every rom causes problems, freezes......

Hi there,
i tried a lot of word combinations to get a thread with my specific problem but i didnt manage it to find one.
So here is the deal:
i have german galaxy s 2 (9100, bought in september 2011) and i flashed it last year with darkyrom HD something gingerbread-style.
so it was rooted and all that stuff.
it worked pretty fast and it was stable and it looked sleak.
Last year in November i put Ressurrection remix 3.x (dont know which version of it) on my phone.
It had a lot of crashes, freezes and while playing ingress it always drained around 20% of the battery within 10-20minutes.
So i stopped it. I put the last version of it 3.1.3. of it onto my phone with a full wipe, cache partition, factory reset onto my phones and the problems went keep going.
As an example:
-I couldnt access options where i can select ringtones or to see what is on the sd. it crashed and went back to the "main screen".
-Yesterday i tried around 15 roms, and nearly everything except militant rom keep crashing while iam installing them.
-Sometimes it crashes already while iam installing the rom, sometimes its after a couple of hours, that i cant access the rom any more.
-The newest problem is, that sometimes the power button doesnt respond, when i push it (in jelly bam)
Please explain, what iam missing or is my phone just broke?
It never fell down, no water or anything freaking other things.
I hope you can help me.
should i send it back or what is wrong?

i thought the kernel is already included when you're installing one of the roms?
which one should i take?
or how wipe the whole system to have it like "out of the box"?
flash a stock ROM and see how it behaves.

if you are rooted, you can try flashing NeatROM lite 4.2 based on LS8 and see how it behaves else flash official JB 4.1.2 using odin.

ok, ill try that right now..
if not using odin and try to do something with my nand???
after cleaning and putting a stock rom on it and afterwards rooting it with cwm still the same problem: boot loop or while the first installation, it crashes.
so what to do?
just hang around with the stupid official one?
If you did everything from Factory reset to changing kernel, and everything is still bad like that. I think that there's something with your phone's hardware.

after flashing the ROM via odin, reboot into recovery, wip/factory reset and then go in to mount & storage, make sure system, data and sd cards (internal & external if any) are all mounted if not mount it and reboot.

just as an example, when i tried to put on the neatrom-lite on my phone, it crashes while iam selecting the country. and this is just 2-3seconds after booting into the fresh and new system.
something is completely ****ed up....
so right now, i have the militant rom on my phone, got booted up, but the power button doesnt work.... when the phone is on...
so everytime, when i want to switch of the screen, i have to wait, or take of the battery. and switching on is only possible with the home button.
whats wrong?
Given you have the same problems on stock, hardware problem. Back to stock, reset counter, send it in for warranty service (if you have warranty), if not, take it to local mobile repair shops.
reseting the counter... with stock? how to do that? i thought this is only possible with root? and i thought, as soon as i root, there is something already on the counter?

You have two option. Either flash a custom kernel (siyah, for example), then reset the counter using triangle away app. Then flash a stock firmware using odin. This wont increase the counter.
Or, if you have a USB jig, flash an older bootloader (have to careful here), then simply plug in the jig.

hey, i got the problem:
i transferred a few files between the sd card and the internal storage of my device, and i realised, that the device is not able to fully transfer the files. it says after 40-50% that its done. is there a flash the roms via ODIN? or how to do that? just put the rom.zip as PDA?

Unzip first.
I'd advice you to read about flashing with odin and watch a couple of videos on youtube before you put yourself up to it or else you're gonna have a bad flash, and that means trouble.

[Q] Deleted everything in recovery - Help please

Hi guys, so my phone was working ok before but I went into recovery, I decided I wanted to do a reset, not really knowing what I was doing I chose all the format options in mount and storage. I'd hoped that after clearing the cache etc the phone would reinstall the os but it just freezes on the boot screen. I figure this is because I actually erased everything. Is there any way for me to get a rom back onto the phone and install it from clockwork recovery? The phone isn't detected when I plug it into the computer. I'm using windows 7 and have kies/drivers installed.
Sorry if this post is a bit of a mess.
Your dumb you formated system..... what do you think ? Fairies will come to you and install a rom from magic power?
The solution is to take one rom and flash it in recovery ...simple enought?

Hah, thanks for calling me dumb, I expected better from this community. Sure I know it was a silly thing to do but I wasn't paying so much attention, I didn't realise I was formatting the area that the rom was stored. I also can't just install another rom because I'm unable to connect the phone to the pc to transfer one to it.
Back to stock via Odin to get a clean slate, re-root your phone & restore backup or reflash custom rom/kernel & start again (and pay more attention in future, you deserved the previous comment you got, too many people like you wouldn't get into these situations in the first place if they took even the slightest amount of care).
Thread stickied near the top of Q&A if you don't know how to flash a stock rom with Odin (But you should already know before you start flashing anything).
Edit - This assumes you can't get into CWrecovery or recovery won't flash anything. If you can/it will, you're getting in a tizz over nothing & you should simply be able to flash whatever rom/kernel you want in CWRecovery.
