Formatting a card as exfat?? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I know how to format a 64 gig card to fat32, but does anyone know how to convert a fat32 card back to exfat??
Now that TWRP supports exfat cards, I want to convert a 64 gig sandisk card from fat32 back to exfat but none of the formatting apps seem to have the option to go back to exfat??

Easeus was the first thing I tried, it doesn't have an option for exfat.

Actually, now that TWRP works with exfat I find that exfat works perfectly fine with android.
I have a TON of bluy-ray movie rips that I like to store on my card and quite a few of them are over 4 gigs. FAT32 won't allow any file over 4 gigs, so I would have had to recode them all which I don't really feel like doing.
Although there is no advantage to this large a file if it will only be used in the phone (although this phone can handle them just fine), I use the phone as a source to hook to hi-def TVs etc.

Yeah, got my 64gig last week. Formatted as exfat, it has performed great, have the sd/internal swap from the beans rom and everything is working great.

I use directory bind atm. I'm running beans rom how hard is it to setup the sd swap in beans rom and also is there a link to the file to install sd swap without reinstalling rom?

Works perfectly on my phone. My card came pre-formatted as exFAT but I can also format it that way on my Mac.

Mine came as fat32 for some reason, despite being a 64gb card. I just recently switched to exfat after having to hit record 3 times to get a recording in its entirety. Stupid 4gb limit.

you guys really have files that are >4gb?

{Q} How to format a 64gb sdxc card to fat32?

Okay so I have a Sandisk 64gb sdxc and it works in my GS3 just fine as exfat. However, I would like to format it to fat32 so I can take full advantage of CWM and accessing my SD card. I have tried the following:
-CMD promt format to fat32 in windows and it formatted fine, but SG3 woud report as damaged SD card.
-Format to fat32 with swissknife and it formatted fine, but SG3 woud report as damaged SD card.
-Format with E4GT but the E4GT would not even recognize the 64GB card regardless of how it was formatted.
-Format in my Xoom but it would also not recognize the card.
So what is my solution here? Is there a way to format this card in FAT32 and use it in my GS3 or do I need to just deal with Exfat until the CM team develops an exfat compatible CWM?
If i format it to FAT32 then go directly into CWM it recognizes the card but when I boot up it still gives and SD card damaged error. Guess i will just have to deal with no CWM access if I use the 64gb card.
exactly my experience. fat32 format the phone reads it occasionally and then starts to report it as damaged.

Thanks for the verification. Either CWM will need to be made to work or I will need to go back to the 32gb card i guess.
Thought there would be more people here using the 64gb cards with thier GS3. Anyone have a work around?
I used the GUI version of Fat32 Format: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm
Worked for me. Win7 x64 with a 64 GB Sandisk card. I'm using rooted stock AT&T ROM and it has never complained about an invalid card. CWM works fine, too.
I wonder if it'd work formatting fat 32 on a Mac. Only way a year ago I was able to format a 250GB hdd fat32 so I could backup my PS3 back then.
Tried through windows and even though I found ways to format it, it never worked right.

i had to do this earlier today for cwm purposes! use a free prog called active partition manager. i already did a nandroid also. otherwise, that exfat will give you mounting error.
use extfsd
A full format in swissknife then a quick format in Active Partition Manager is the only thing that worked for me. Got it working though!! Thanks for all the help.

This is what I used too. Other methods didn't "stick" for some reason, maybe the tools weren't actually formatting it to FAT32 but exFAT and just figured that it wouldn't matter to most people using the tool. This tool, however, worked perfectly. Haven't had any errors since using it.

Just got mine and all it says is blank sd card, and it is not willing to format it via my phone or windows as well as third party programs. Not sure what's going on. Windows formatting just says it can't, while 3rd party programs just hang forever. Any ideas?

I just had the same problem. Other than downloading some software to install FAT32, what I came up with was installing it in my Epic 4G Touch. It saw that it was blank, and then allowed me to format it.

[Q] Sandisk 64 gb Micro sd card

I just put one in the phone and viewed that under storage it sees it ok. Good sign I guess since I read many people cannot even get phone to read it or see it properly. Does anyone know what if anything I need to do next? I am running Beans build 4 and its own rom. I read that Perseus maybe an issue with this card so I figured not to change roms for now at least.
If you are going to use CWM, you will need to reformat it to FAT32 (it is exfat now)
If not, you are good to go the way it is.
I am running perseus kernel with that card with no problem.

Two things with these cards:
1: back it up religiously, I have had two of them go bad on me.
2: if that procedure for formatting it won't work for you (some versions of windows can't do this by default), then use EaseUS Partition Master. That is a free DL and works super.

I tried this method and it is quick to format the ex fat to fat32. Once you click on the picture the GUI exe file will download to your PC. Click on the exe file and a pic of the drive where your card is located will pop up. Mine was in the g drive make sure you got the right location up and then hit format. In like 5 seconds this thing will reformat your card to fat 32 and "BAMM," your in fat city.

Problem is Bill the only drive this program or any other method I have tried does not see the usb drive. It only see for example the C drive. The only way it see the drive is when I put a very small sized SD card it it. Seems the 64 gb sized card is the maun issue. The card does work in the phone and can at least be seen though.

Thanks for all the help

[Q] SGS3 i9300 Micro sd card best format?

Hi guys i want to format my micro sd card 32GB class 10 from Gskill.
So the question is initially it had FAT32 as its file system format i think so should i stick to that or use one of the following EXFAT or EXT4 ?
What are the advantages and disadvantages if any? Thanks.
Exfat will stop it working on some custom roms (possibly all) completely.
Ext 4 will completely prevent windows seeing it, fat 32 is the completely universal format and should be fine unless you are using single files 4GB and over.

Since I cant move any apps to the ext SD card yet..Im lost...never the less, I still bought a 64 gig class 10 card and put it in the phone. It won't read it. Just says Mount SD card. I try to do it and says the card is safe to remove.

The problem is in format of SDcard. Actually, Faux Kernel won't read exFat format, which is mostly used to format 64Gb storages. There two ways to fix it:
1. Flash Ktoonez kernel (KT-kernel) that supports exFat (just like stock kernel).
2. Find the way to format your SDcard into Fat32 format. There is utility named Fat32Format can be found on the Internet. Or, if you are on Mac - just select Fat format.

caution, formatting 64gb cards in fat32 can cause data corruption over time. i recomend this mod. works on aosp and tw roms that have init.d support. i use it and works great for exfat support http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155363

External SD card permission issue

Weird enough suddenly I found all my external SDCard files have all permissions like:
---rwxr-x
Why !?? This happens to every file I copy onto it.
I needed them like:
rwxrwxr-x
so far, the only rough and long way I found is through Aromafilemanager and PhilzTouch recovery.
Yet I have to change the permissions one file at a time.
Can anybody help?
Sounds like a problem unique to you, I've never heard of it.
Flash the official stock rom, format your sd card in your pc using the industry formatting tool and test.
If the problem disappears then it was probably some combination of your individual setup.
Yep. Also ensure you haven't got any scripts running at startup. Sd permissions are set on boot and cannot be changed afterwards

Any mods that mount folders or swap storage.
Otherwise, something built into the rom.

which filesystem do i have to use in formatting extsdcard 8gb via pc? exFAT / FAT32 / EXT4 / NTFS ?
moreover, in this post and following on dev rom thread, it seems it's a normal behaviour... am i missing sth?

Fat32 is the normal filesytem.
If it's common to your rom then your chef is the best one to approach, he may have set a script or mod.

I read through about 7 pages of sd card issues on the s3 and thought i cant read anymore, so i thought i would just ask. I've just bought an s3 and i got my 64gb sd card from my old phone to my new one. Problem is i have data from other games in the SD and titanium back up files in the externel sd card. Seems the S3 has its own built in SD card and only reads from that. I copied my TB files from externel to the internel. Now the games still require Extra files although they are in the externel SD. So how in the world do i get it to read my Externel sd instead of my internel? I thought of copying the files but i have 16 gb internel, 64 externel so its not gonna work considering i have 39 gb left in my 64 gb one,
