Hi folks/ I'm a new member to these forums hoping someone may be able to give me some advice regarding an S3 that was dropped in water a few days ago. The immersion in the water was minimal - the water damage indicator behind the battery is still ok (purple crosses on a white background).
A day or so after the accident a message appeared on the phone saying it was running out of storage space. I did the usual removing of photo's, videos & unwanted apps and this got rid of the message but on for a day. When I checked the memory details it said that almost 11GB was in use!
I reverted the phone back to it's factory setting which cleared the problem for a few days. Then the messgae reappeared.
This morning I reinstalled the latest frimware via Odin (I9300XXELL4) and I also installed SD Maid.
I appreciate SD Maid is mainly for rooted devices however the info I could get from it told me that the folders '/data' and '/storage/sdcard0' are both showing 3.71GB/11.25GB.
Is this right? More than a quarter of the internal memory used after a fresh install of the firmware??
I've connected the phone to Kies to try and pinpoint where the memory is being used but that tells me that 3.6GB/11.15GB is being used but the biggest folder is the Android one with only 148MB??
I would appreciate any help or advice you guys can give me regarding this. To my untrained eyes 3GB+ seems a heck of a lot of memory being used after a fresh install??
Many thanks

Further to above, which I posted yesterday, I have just checked the S3 and the 'Not enough storage' message has appeared again. SD Maid now says 11.34GB/11.35GB has been used. No apps or photos or anything else has been added. The phone has just been used for browsing & Facebook. Something somewhere is causing wrong readings to show. Looks like it's stumped the XDA Developers lol

Hi to everyone.
I was just wondering if any of you have experienced all data suddenly disappearing from you phone. The other day, when I was using the camera I got a message there was problems with the internal memory. I restarted the phone, which took longer than normal. Everything looked OK and I took the pictures I wanted.
When I wanted to look at the pictures I found everything was missing in the internal memory except the pictures I had just taken.
Checking the phone with Quick System Info I could also see, there was no system cache anymore. The system cache reappear, when I unmounted it in recovery, and whipped it. The Data was gone for good.
I'm using stock 4.0.4 prerooted rom and advanced stock kernel v. 11
This message was send from my Iconia Tab using the keyboard.
The same kinda thing happened to me about a week ago.
But mine's slightly more weird due to the fact that I wasn't even using my phone at all.
At first, everything was absolutely fine with no problems. I then came off my phone for a while because I was watching a film. When I then went back onto my phone, I noticed that a couple of apps on my home screen were showing as invalid( so the apk was still there but there was a problem with the data side of it). I went into my file manager to see that everything that was saved internally had disappeared.
It was showing that I'd only used 270ish MB, which I know for a fact is wrong cause I'd pretty much filled it.
But because I wasn't using it and it wasn't even being touched, I fant understand the problem.
I really hope someone replies here and can let us know what caused it to happen. Even though it won't get our data back, it would be good to know why it happened.

Hi all,
Having an issue with my S3 where the internal memory is filling up with some unknown thing. Every morning I was waking up to "insufficient storage" notifications and no matter what i would deleted it would just fill up again. I factory reset it two days ago to see if it would stop the problem and it's already half full of nothing. I've looked around a few places but can't seem to find an answer. Phone is unrooted with stock everything. I've attached some images so you can see what I'm talking about. Storage Analyser does not recognise whatever is taking up the space but the system does.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
UPDATE
I figured this out. I rooted the phone and realised that my phone had almost 3gb of error logs in data/logs/ --- That's 3 gigs in 2 days by the way. Gonna try and figure out how to stop it doing that next and I'll report here then. Until then I'll just have to delete regularly.
Gooday guys,
I've got serious troubles at the moment. 2 days ago I wanted to show a picture to a friend of mine. Opened my gallery > ehm, what is going on here? > there were no photos images anymore.
First I thought that the gallery app got some problemes, rebooted my phone, still the same. Looked up the folders with Solid Explorer, well ... all files got definitely deleted.
I searched for this here on xda and google. Well, all I found out was that it could be ROM related, or that it could have something to do with RomManager (haven't installed it though). The curious thing is that the *.jpg and *.mp4 files got deleted from all folders and subfolders, not only from DCIM and even from the sd card.
I'm not here for any recovery attempts, have done this already
Well this is not all. I've got some *.avi files on my phone (internal and external storage). Theses files were deleted too. BUT not at the same day as the other media files (*.jpg and *.mp4).
So this is the pre story. Now I wanted to know what can I do to discover what is causing this problem, because what's next? Is my phone deleting all my files in a few days?
For me it seems like a script that is searching the whole device for media files and deleting them. (malicious?)
My thoughts were:
to smali all applications and try to find out if a app is causing this
to analyze logcats
Well, These options seems to be very long-lasting, so I ask you if somebody have any ideas on this?
Information about my phone
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 (i9300)
ROM: ParanoidAndroid v3.68
Kernel: Googy-Max v1.5.9
I haven't isntalled any apps or updates the last two weeks so I think there are no problems with apps and therefore will not list them.
tldr;
phone is deleting media files
two days ago it deleted *jpg and *.mp4 files from internal and external storage and from all folders (not only DCIM)
today it deleted *.avi files from internal and external storage
could it be a malicious script that is crawling my phone for those files?
how can I find out what is causing this problem?
I hope that somebody could help me *pray pray*
thanks a lot in advance!
Wish you guys a nice weekend
John
Sounds like a nasty software bug
Oooooooooooooo NOT fun! I have seen this before (first time on the S3 though). Sounds like a nasty software bug. Sometimes you can fix this and sometimes you cannot.
What you NEED to do is backup ALL of your phones information. I recommend that you back it ALL up to a computer, even your memory cards information as well.
Then wipe that device clean with a Factory data reset. This will set the phone back to its default settings and will be like a brand new phone.
You might also want to consider formatting your SD card at the same time. Just in case whatever is causing this issue is coming from your Memory Card.
Afterwards I recommend that you try using your phone without any 3rd party applications for a couple days, just to make sure it’s not a bad app causing trouble.
If the phone is still acting up and erasing things then you should file a warranty claim as soon as possible.
Good luck John.

This problem has got to the point of forcing me to register on XDA forums. I have a Samsung G II running android 4.1.2 (jelly-bean of course) and over the past week the memory (storage) handling has gotten really bad. It's as if the OS has given up on storing items now. Problems include-
After taking, receiving or downloading a photo (generally over whatsapp but it occurs to other apps like wallbase) The photo will be stored on my phone for the day until i turn off my phone, now after turning it back on however the photos are gone just leaving a blank space which displays "unable to load" in the gallery.
Next issues is that my apps i now install get installed in the next dimension because they don't appear to be on my phone even when i do a file search or plug in the device into my computer. But here is where it gets crazy they are on my phone and do take space up, but it's no where to be found.
The OS now presumes i have an SD card even though i don't have one plugged in. Because of this! big games and Apps now now try to use this fake SD that doesn't exist and this causes them to give me errors along the lines of "Sd is full or inaccessible". Pffft
Please someone help me, this issue is annoying me so badly and is rendering my phone useless if it can't store data.
I appologize you were forced to register here @ this great forum and though you still might find your answer here, ironic, anyway.Have you tried wiping cache, dalvik and fixing permissions, are you even rooted?I did'nt see you mention that,so i have no idea, also, you might want to back up what you want to keep and format and partition your sd card, not sure how big your sd crad is either,so you might need a bigger sd card for all your stuff.I myself use a 32GB Sandisk, class 10 and it works great, never ran out of space or had any speed issues on my OG EVO.

Rooted? yes. I've deleted all the caches under the sun and still no results. And i have over 4Gb of free internal storage according to my phone. I have my data backed up but i'd rather have a direction to go before starting anything. :crying:
I'm not seeing anything for your phone except this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192122
Hi everyone! So, I've been having a bit of an issue with my Galaxy S3 lately (and by lately, I mean it's been bothering me for the past few months, but until today I've been able to use my phone )
My phone is giving me an out of space message, and no matter what I do, I can't seem to fix it. When it first started coming up, it was a bit annoying, but today, my phone seems to have run out of so much space, it can't receive messages, take screenshots (even though it should be stored onto my SD card), or even use the Facebook app without it erroring.
I can't upload a screenshot to here (since my phone won't even let me take the screenshot ), but when I go to the storage settings, my phone says I don't have enough internal memory. It says I have 11.25GB total, and I'm using 1.85GB for applications, 5.27MB for pictures and videos, 34.30MB for audio, 14.14MB for downloads and 236MB for misc files. Somehow that means my 11.25GB space is all used up, so I might have to go back to school for maths, because something doesn't add up . It also says I have 4.30GB free space on my SD card, but that's not causing the problem (I hope)
I've searched for other problems like this, and all of them are for rooted phones, which doesn't help me because my S3 isn't rooted. Also, all of the problems I saw were when people tried installing an app and got the "out of space" error on Google Play store, and they had to delete the app's .odex file, which unfortunately doesn't help me
I appreciate any help anyone has ! Really hoping to be able to use my phone again
