I am getting this error while taking a nandroid backup using CWM 5.0.2.6 ''error while making a backup image of /system" on Jelly Blast v3.0.4.
I have 6793 mb free space on sd card so i don't think that free space is a problem. What's going wrong? How do I fix this?

That method also didn't work. Just gets stuck on backing up system 98%. Moreover, even if it would have worked i wanted to know that why normal backup was not working.
Anyways.. while backing up in recovery i noticed that same files are being backed up i.e. names of files/.apks repeating again and again till it gives me the error i mentioned in the first post. And using the above mentioned method while it gets stuck on 98% the filesize of system backup keeps on increasing.. reached around 1.6 gb before i cancelled the process. So, i guess the same happens while backing through recovery and when the card runs out of memory i get that error. Any idea about the problem..?

Connect your phone to your PC
Go to my computer
Right click on your phones SD and select properties
Go to Tools
Use Error checking " Check the Device for errors "
Check both tick boxes
I think your problem is your phone is attempting to write to a damaged
data block on your SD card, which is what causes the Backup to fail,
this should fix the data block (if any errors are on it)

I flashed stock rom using odin and now i am able to take backups. But the great thing is that CWM is not able to restore any backups. I took one backup before i had this problem, i am not able to restore that backup too. Its just says something like error in flashing boot image.. What's going on?
EDIT:
I can restore data,system,cache and sd-ext through advance restore. Only restoring boot image is causing problem. And as a result restore fails. What could be the problem. Tried flashing stock rom again and creating a fresh backup, still the same error.

I have the same issue and while digging some answers, found following instructions on an outside link, couldn't post the link, so here is the post:
How to create a nandroid backup using CWM guide
This guide will instruct on how to create a nandroid using cwm
a couple of things first:
1. Nandroid simply backs up system and data. it does NOT back up your kernel or modem.
2. For the reasons in note 1, you can only recover to a nandroid on the same build as the one you are on (EC07 - ECO7, EC03 - EC03, and DL17 - DL17). If you try to back up to an EC03 nandroid from an EC07 build, you will softbrick until you flash the proper kernel.
Also, this guide assumes that you are already rooted, and have CWM working on your phone. If not, there are a couple of guides to get you here.
What you need:
Nothing that you don't already have.
What to do:
1. reboot int recovery by powering down, then power back on holding vol up, vol down, and power at the same time. This will boot you into stock recovery.
2. using volume down, highlight 'apply sdcard:update.zip' and select by using the menu button (or where it would be).
3. you should now be in cwm recovery. Depending on which one you are using, the text will either be red or cyan in color. highlight 'backup/restore' using volume keys and select with POWER button.
4. select backup
The back up will start, and will take around 5-10 minutes to complete (depending on how much stuff you have in /data)
5. Once it is done, it will go back to the main cwm menu. Select 'reboot phone now' with power button.
you are done.
This is pretty simple and innocuous. But, as always, ask before you start.

Here's my sad story. New to Android. I have a US YP-G1, which had been rooted using SuperOneClick. I installed Steve's Kernel (US version) to get the Voodoo sound. I used Odin3 v1.85. That worked fine. I installed Voodoo control, rebooted; everything still works, sounds great.
Then I decide to explore Clockworkmod recovery. I booted into recovery, ran the the CWM backup option (which I guess is Nandroid backup). It backs up boot/cache/data/datadata/system to what I think is /sdcard. I then reboot out of CWM.
That's it. I'm stuck in a infinite boot loop where I see the swirling pattern and the glowing Samsung logo for a few seconds before it reboots and repeats it again.
I tried CWM USB "mount USB storage". PC can see the sdcard. But the only thing there is the CWM backup directory with all the backup contents and two other folders: .android_secure and external_sd, both of which are empty. That seems kind of unexpected since I thought I should see the internal SD card contents and expected more directories when mounted to PC. Also expected external_sd directory to show the contents of my 32GB SD card, but nothing shows when mounted like that. PC showed about 5.5GB free on the mount.
I also tried CWM recovery restore from the backup I made. This seemingly restored all files from the backup, but after reboot I'm still in the boot loop.
After searching on the web and finding some guides, I've also tried cleaning out the Dalvik cache, and the "wipe data/factory reset" CWM options. Still have the boot loop.
Does anyone have another suggestion for how to get out of the boot loop?

I had a similar problem of getting stuck in a boot loop, but I thought it was because I had cleared the dalvik cache. Nandroid backups work flawlessly for me, btw. Anyway, I got my device fixed by reflashing with this stock ROM with ODIN: http://www.filefactory.com/file/c0dd...s2.3.5.tar.md5
After you flash it, it will still be boot loop so go into stock recovery (with 3 button combo) and choose "wipe data/factory reset" and then "wipe cache". Then I rebooted, and I was no longer in boot loop!
You can reflash SteveS kernel after if you want.

Actually, the icons are there, but clicking on them tells me that the "application is not installed on the system". Also, other settings are missing as well like my email accounts and wifi connections/passwords. But app icon layout is correct, and clearly it remembered some of my settings. I got the impression this was supposed to do a "full restore".
I tried "reset permissions", but this didn't fix it. Any clues?

Maybe your nandroid backup wasn't created correctly? Because for me my nandroid backup restored all my settings and apps. Did you have any apps installed on the SD card instead of device? Maybe that might be the problem, but I'm not sure.
I've had exactly the same experience, but with UK version. I had Steves rom and kernel flashed, all looking nice so did a nandroid backup with cwm. No bootloops but everything was gone. Icons were on screen but applications not installed. In the end I did factory reset and reflashed Steves rom. All good but am avoiding cwm!

My guess: Steve's CWM implementation is broken and is not backing up/restoring /dbdata (Looking at his recovery.fstab, this SHOULD be working, but maybe his fstab is broken.)
I've seen the same sort of behavior when trying to get CWM working on the 5.0 - I fixed it on mine by fixing /dbdata backup/restore (which is treated as /datadata by CWM)
Can you post a list of files in your backup including sizes?

Perhaps dbdata is missing as you suspect. But there is a datadata.
CWM treats dbdata as datadata (just a different naming convention) - so it is getting backed up.
Maybe it didn't get restored properly? dunno...
Wait... data.img is only 2112 bytes? Something is WRONG there... That should be the largest image after /system
I just checked my nandroid backup files and data.img was 386.80MB...
Try making another backup and see if it has the same problem...maybe it didn't create correctly.
I've just got done restoring the stock kernel and ROM and loading up all my apps manually again. It took a while to do this. So at the moment I don't have SteveS kernel loaded and hence no CWM recovery. I think I'll wait a while to see how things go before trying the kernel again, at least for the CWM recovery part of it. And I also loaded Titanium backup to help me restore from this kind of problem in the future.
Since keithabi also reported something similar, I guess this isn't an isolated issue. It sounded like he too just made a backup and ran into problems; in other words he wasn't trying to restore from a backup, just create the backup. Creating a backup shouldn't kill your machine.
To confirm, yes I just made a backup and everything was gone....

That is WEIRD. Just making a backup shouldn't do something like that...
I agree. I've done loads of backups with SGS II and HTC Desire, never seen anything like that happen before. I'm sure it'll get sorted. Other than that I'm finding Steves rom great with voodoo. Many thanks.....

sooo...... please help me out here. i have the same problem as OP. except i have stressed my device trying to find a stock rom for galaxy player 4.0 us version so much, that is has now fully bricked. it wont power on. i am not an entire noob to flashing custom roms. however i dont understand alot of it either. some one who is kind please point me in the right direction at least.
Hey there guys I came across this useful tool today when I was poking around the ARC section it lets you make a nandroid without having to boot into recovery. This isnt my work Im simply passing it on so I hope he doesnt care too much about me posting this here.

Nandroid backups are usually performed in recovery mode. This means you would have to turn off your phone and reboot in recovery mode, which wastes a whole lot of time rebooting and a lot more time offline. For me, this has been a killer as I do regular nandroid backups. Having to reboot in recovery and finding missed calls, sms from my wife and friends is totally not accepatable for me. So, I set to develop an online nandroid backup tool which can do nandroid backups without switching off my phone.
Today, I am releasing it to public, as it may serve good for some others too. This tool is specifically for Xperia phones, but should work with any model of android phones.
This tool backups /system , /data , /cache & .android_secure partiotions to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup directory. The date format used for folder name is the same used by CWM itself and nandroid backups created with this tool can safely be restored using CWM. If you would want to have a custom name for backup folder, pass an argument with the name to the script and it will use the name.
Feedback (especially ideas to improve) are most welcome.
Requirements
1. Rooted android phone
2. A terminal emulator installed on phone
3. Busybox
4. A working CWM based recovery installed
5. Some patience
Installation
1. Download and copy zip file to SD card
2. Reboot into recovery
3. Choose install zip from SD card, select zip and flash .
4. Reboot!
Usage
1. Open terminal emulator
2. Type su to obtain root
3. Type onandroid
4. Wait and watch

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling busybox and installing it to /system/bin and not xbin. This time it sort of ran but I got a bunch of errors and no backup.
Any suggestion on how to fix this?

Isn't this inherently flawed since files on the rom are still being used and written while the backup is taking place? Neat idea though, don't get me wrong

Fair enough. Hopefully people follow the advice of not doing anything during the backup, so they aren't disappointed when the changes don't get backed up

I tried to do a restore from the online nandroid backup I made and even though it said "restore complete" my SD-ext(4) partition would not load its shortcuts and widgets. The funny part is link2sd didn't even detect any SD-ext as if it wasn't backed up. I thought it said that it backed up SD-ext during online backup, but not sure. I'm wondering if it might help to factory restore before restoring backup. I may try that to see and I'll report back if noone reports similar problem.
Edit**During backup I was not doing anything else with phone other then watching the amazing online backup screen. Also I tried to "re-create mount scripts" but never got option from link2sd even after reboot.

This tool (prior to v3) does not backup sd-ext partition. In the first post, you can see what the tool backups.
PS: If you can send me a previous backup of your sd-ext, I can work on adding sd-ext backup support to the script.

Here it is, the same error as before. This is with the latest 2.0 version. I'm running stock 2.3.4 rooted. Busybox is1.94 full.

I had the same problem. Just reboot to recovery and do it again. On your way doing it your custom recovery may inform you that you have lost root and ask you to reroot.

i flash another rom and next do another backup of new rom , and when i restore this new one restore is complete.
but old one i want always the same problem
maybe problemn is in folder clocworkmod
because in old one i have more files like for example data.ext4.tar.g
please some ideas?

You could try advanced restore and specify the part of the backup you want to restore, on cwm. My reasoning is that since the md5sum check completes, the integrity of your back up is verified, so that's to mean that all should work just fine. But since it doesn't go past the data restoration, maybe you could try restoring just the data part of the backup; assuming that the phone already has a rom that it is booting to and functioning as expected in order to be able to see the restored data when you boot the phone after the restore.

error was because of space on device
i flash a rom once again, than delete all folders that i dont needed
and then go to recovery, than restore was complete
so its was because i dont have to much space on device-its for sure because i try many things and in the end i find this solution off my problem

Hello all,
I'm having a ton of trouble with my nook tablet 16GB. Yesterday I decided to to try to completely turn it into an android tablet with no trace of the nook remaining software wise. So at first I went to youtube and saw a vid how to root it, it had a link in the description on the software I would need.
Everything went fine, It gave me root and even had a separate home launcher/ menu that had gapps and all. Now If I knew the hassle I was in for i'd have left it there, but I didn't. So the next thing I did was go to the cyanogen site and and dl the latest stable build which is cm-10.1.2, dated july 11 2013. I put the zip on the root of my sd card and try to flash with CWM based recovery 5.0.2.8. It looks like it completes as it doesn't abort or give any error messages but It would just get to the cm logo screen, and spin for about two seconds and go back to cyanoboot.
Since I didn't want to go any further based on frustration, I decided to go back to stock and just forget it. I downloaded a stock 1.4.2 rom and flashed it with the 5.0.2.8 and it was fine. It booted into the nook os and everything was good. Now since my nook was originally 1.4.3 I wanted to get it back to that before I quit for good. So I dl the 1.4.3 update from B&N, place it on the root of the actual tablet to do the manual update but it keeps booting into the 5.0.2.8 recovery and thats there I am now.
Tried flashing different versions of stock roms, stock- rooted roms, custom roms, some fail to flash, some look like they flash completely but it always takes my back to the cm recovery. In need of some help guys/gals. Also, I know most of the responses will be "use the search" However I doubt that anyone is having exactly this issue, with exactly these circumstances surrounding it, so I probably wont get an answer that actually helps me any.
You need CWM 6.x.x to flash CM10 properly. You can use your current CWM to flash a new one but I would suggest using this near fool proof way instead. You can use whatever CM10.x ROM you want but make sure you get the right version gapps to go with it.

I would suggest you start over again and here is really easy way to do it:
1. Download, extract and burn this ready-made CM10 sd image to a 2 GB (?) (or larger - not 100% sure of the size since I use a larger card myself) sd card. Use this card as a bootable CWM card. Even if it's a complete run-able CM10 it also works as a bootable CWM! Very handy!

2. Boot into the recocvery of that card by pressing the "n" right after the power button and then hold the "n" to get to boot menu
3. In boot menu choose "sd recovery" ot something similar. This will take you to CWM
4. When in CWM install zips, wipe cache and Dalvik and you should be fine!
Once CM10 is installed it probably comes with CWM (the one I use does), so to get into CWM next time you need it, just hold "n" like before, but no need for a CWM card.
Edit: I checked, and there IS enough room for my favourite ROM and gApps on the boot section of the card. "My favourite" is the 1231 build on Iamafanof site. And FWIW, you'll find pretty much exactly the same story as yours told quite a few times here and pretty much always with a happy ending as long as you haven't started wiping and formatting things randomly.
Something you might have discovered if you had actually done some searches. I actually find your assumption that you wouldn't find a solution a little bit both nonchalant and slightly offending.

Ok i'm a little lost. I did what you said and got the image and wrote with win32diskimager. Put sd in and turned on power and to the sdc recovery and flashed it. I'm lost here. I figured there would just be another image cm mod 10 or something in the card and I would simply choose to flash it after selecting flash from sd or something to that effect.
I didnt see anything like that. Is there something i'm supposed to be flashing to install the clockwork mod? Your post says once I install cwm i'm good, but I don't know how to do that apparently because I don't see any rom to do so.
I am able to boot cyanogenmod from the card but that's not what I want to do. I want to flash it permanent to the rom and not have to worry about it again. How can I do this?
Btw I'm not sure if the flash worked totally, as If I just power one and do nothing it takes me to the clockwork mod 5.0.2.8. If I power on and hold the n the cyanboot will come up and I have to select the sdc recovery everytime just to make it show the 6.x.x.x version. I though your instructions would make the 6.x.x.x the default version from now on.
In any even, I'm still a little stuck. Lil more help please?

Are you actually reading what I write? I clearly tell that the card is meant to get you started as a bootable CWM card.
That means that it takes you into a CWM version that is correct for flashing CM10.X.
Once you are in the correct CWM you flash the same way you did when you had the wrong CWM.
Once you've done your flashing you will have everything installed internally and you can throw away the card.
And to be extra clear: You have to add the actual ROM and gApps to the card, or if there isn't enough room to another card.

That actually came to me as I was waiting for a reply. The reason I didnt thin of it sooner was that when I did the steps with the rooting stock nook it shrunk my card down to like 4 mb in size. I though this would do the same, and thus there would be no room for cm 10. However I decided to look and it was enough space. I just added the zip and flashed it with cwm 6.x.x. We'll see if it works
No luck. I flashed the cm 10.1.2 zip, I watch the blue status bar go all the way to the end, and the messages at the bottom say complete. I wipe the cache and the dalvik as suggested. and I hit reboot system. It just boots me right back into the cwm 5.0.2.8

Try the one I suggest and if that works you can then flash another one to replace it if you want to.
You can start over with a completely 'virgin" stock Tablet in case it's your previous install of CWM 5 that's messing up things. Search for repart.img and run it and then start over again fresh

There is no need for all that. I did what you said. I booted into the proper clockwork mod 6.0.2.7, I figured out that I need to copy the cm10.2 rom to the card and flash. I did that. the problem is that even after flashing it wont boot to cm 10 from the internal storage. It still boots to cwm 5.0.2.8

Did you mistakenly format the /boot partition? It sounds like a bootloop. That could happen because a 512 byte file in that partition got deleted, I forgot the name of the file though.
Also, for future reference, you don't even have to root your devices (most of the time) to get a recovery image and aftermarket OS installed. This is what I followed to get CM10.1 on my Nook Tablet, a video guide by Ray Waldo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6D4s3okNQk
The OS he is using in that video is a live Ubuntu CD/USB, one of many Linux distributions. You need a program called GParted to set flags on the partition. If you want, you can instead get the live CD of GParted, but it wont be as user friendly as Ubuntu. (I'm a Debian guy myself though).

I flashed cm-10.1.2-acclaim directly from the cm site under stable releases. So that's exactly what its called? repart.img? Is that one size fits all or is there a specific one for the nook tablet?

When you run the repart.img a green check mark should appear after a couple of minutes. When it does take out the card and the restore starts. If you get a red cross instead of the green check mark it means you messed up something when you were fiddling around in CWM 5.
If it does work I suggest you then follow my previous instructions again and use the exact ROM I link to as a starter setup that you then can change once you've seen things work.

I followed that guild to the letter, but there is no green check, it just says that it will shut down in 5 secs and remember to take the card out before powering up . The guide says that it should restart, but it doesnt. So thats where I am now.
What's on the screen before it says it will shut down? I have not heard of anyone not getting either the green or red mark.

How far into this description from that topic does things work as described? I don't connect to computer when I do this. I just turn on power, but maybe some devices need to be kick started by inserting the powered USB cable. If so I would do that instead of pushing power button.
* Put that SD card in your Nook Tablet
* Connect your Nook to your PC/Laptop
* Hold the power button of your Nook until you see "n" logo pops up
* release the powe button, in 1-2 minutes you will see a messsge "Please DO NOT turn off your device.....installing new software"
* Now DONT do anythign to your Nook - Just sit back and relax
* Once Nook finishes installing IMG, a "Green Checkmark" will appear on top right hand corner
* Remove your SD card from your Nook Tablet
* You will see Nook will restart itself
* Then you will be see a message displaying "Clearing Data"
* Afterwords you will see a message displaying "Installing factory Software...Do not Turn off your device"

its a black screen with a picture of a nook with a green arrow pointing down and a red X at the top right of the screen.
I figure the red X will turn into a green check once its done because it says in red letters installing software do not turn off the machine.
the green check never comes it just says shutting down in 5 seconds remember to remove SD card before powering on.
I have to remove the SD card I have tried leaving to SD card in I have waited for it to reboot on its own I have tried to reboot it myself it just never gets to the clearing data portion that is described in the guide
Well like I said before, the red x means you messed up something when in CWM 5. Probably what Sagirfahmid suggested. If you've ruined the boot section I can't help you. It is fixable and there are instructions here since you're certainly not the first one to have done it. I haven't dealt with that myself though so I can't help.
Until you find out what to do, run CM10 from that image you downloaded. It's very good and performs very well even from sd-card

Since I suspect there's only a minor fault, here's something you can try. I have no idea if it can work, but it's worth a try! I have made a backup from a Tablet running CM10 and put a zip file of it in my Public DropBox folder. You can unzip it and try to use the restore fucntion in the CWM 6.x.x that you can get into with the sd-card you made. I don't think there is enough room for the backup file, but once CWM 6.x.x. is running you can switch sd cards. The reason I thought this would be worth a try is that the boot section is backed up, and in case there's a tiny problem with yours maybe this is all it needs to get going.
I will leave the link and the file for about 24 hours or until you say you've downloaded it (or say you're going to try something else instead).

Thanks for the hint, but it didnt work either. It just aborted. I actually had enough space to put your image on the bootable card. I book into cyanoboot, and go to sdc recovery. It brings up cwm 6.0.2.7 and i try to flash your image from the sd card but it fails.
Anyone know where I can get instructions on how to repair/restore/reflash boot section. I've running the tab off the card with the cm 10 rom as mention in earlier posts, but I'd really like to get this fixed so it boots internally. Any help in pointing me to some instructions would help. Thanks

Did you unzip it like I said you should? You are NOT supposed to flash it! You go to "backup and restore" in CWM 6.x.x and choose restore. Doesn't sound to me like that's what you did.
When unzipped it's a folder that probably is too big for the boot card but you can switch to another card once CWM 6.X.X is running.

My fault I didn't unzip it before. However, I just tried it now with the unzipped folder on the root of the sd card, and i selected backup and restore and it just keeps saying cant mound sd card. I'm going to try to from the internal storage since i was able to get the tablet to boot with the help of cyanoboot.

I think this time it's my mistake! It suddenly dawned on me that in CWM 6.x.x you can't just load the backup file like I was thinking. It need more. Hang on to the file and I'll see if I can figure out what else id needed!

Hey, this is the first time I'm posting a problem here. I have a Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro (I8552). I rooted my phone yesterday via cwm recovery, and then made a backup using ROM Manager. It rebooted my phone directly into a backup page where it started backing it up, but my internal memory wasn't big enough so it failed and since then I haven't been able to boot my phone up... When I try to turn it on it goes straight into CWM Recovery page, and when I click "reboot system now" it turns off the screen and then reboots it again into CWM Recovery...
Then, since I couldn't access the apps (as the phone won't start), I made another backup through CWM Recovery, but this time in my external SD Card which had about 6 gb free space. So it made and completed the backup without any problems. But when I restore it from my ext SD Card it restores the system and stuff but then when it comes to data it shows the message

Mind you, I didn't flash any new ROMs, it was still running my stock ROM when this happened...
So to sum up the things I've tried
1. Reboot system now
2. Backup in extSD Card (which worked) and restore from the same (which didn't work)
3. Wipe data/factory reset
Also one more thing, before any of this mess was made, right after I rooted my phone, I made a backup of all apps through the app called

Just download the latest firmware from sammobile... for your country.. and flash via odin.. you will get back your 'official ' phone...

Yeah, but then will I be able to restore from the same backup (cwm) that's causing problems now, or will it not work even then?
And what about the backup I made with the Titanium Backup app, will I be able to retrieve app data from there?
Because the very reason I was backing it all up was to protect the app data, and it's pretty important. So is it possible to save it after stock flashing?
The stock recovery flasher will help u get out of that loop. Check the link posted above.

Thank you so much... the link worked like a charm. I flashed it through extSD card and it loaded and on clicking reboot it booted the phone right up. I had to go through the factory reset setting as I clicked it before. But almost no important data was lost. All photos videos and documents remained. And for better or for worse the whole thing actually made my phone a lot faster...
