Don't download Kies! Use this instead! - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hey guys, instead of downloading the huge Keis package, use this .exe to install your drivers so you can root and rom your devices. It's the drivers for all samsung devices. It's small and a fast download! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
All credit goes to the OP of that topic! Give him a thanks!

This installs the same drivers that kies installs, but without the bloatware right? I think I used this to unbrick one time, but I don't remember! and i need to unbrick again

Exactly.

First off relax, that's not a brick, a brick means black screen and nothing else going on, you didn't brick it. Put it in download mode and try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and the SDK and try to Odin it again.

Have Windows 7 search for drivers automatically through Windows Update. You don't have to install any drivers yourself. You don't even need Kies to get the drivers.

Yes, but instead of installing astro thru wifi, you just install flashtool on computer, activate adb on phone and use the install apk function.. its a more convinient method.
And it doesnt require root

No, but readme
Read the link that veyka mentioned, quite comprehensive.
CF-Root is what I've used, its not difficult but ofcourse make sure u backup and follow the steps correctly.
There is another method using a program called One Click Root, google it. i tried it worked and rooted and automatically installed superuser, but it was weird when i rebooted my phone it was not rooted!, so i used CF-Root method.
I'm only guessing here sorry.
Update.zip from the stock recovery. Never made one to try if it can be done.
Are you not able to use Odin via your computer for the 1st root flash?
If you can then you can use mobile Odin for flashing without the computer after that. Eg. Download Odin compatible firmware/kernel/modem etc directly to your phone then flash using mobile Odin. No pc involved.
Good luck.

At the moment I can't use a PC, maybe in a week or 2 (if I'm lucky 1). That's why I searched for an app. Nothing worked right now.
I appreciate all of your help!

Can I use an update.zip on a stock ROM?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Its been a while since ive seen the stock recovery but I believe you can only use an update.zip with stock.
It's got to be created the right way though. Can't just rename a zip to update.zip.
