[Q] Backup Rom fail to Restore - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hallo,
My HTC Wildfire (Buzz), i made it S-OFF , Rooted it (i guess) and succeessfully changed its rom to MIUI 2.3.7 . Before changing the rom i backed up the stock rom .The problem comes to whenever i boot to recovery and reach to a point where i am to select if i want to install zip file from sd cards and other selection, i am not able to install or access anything from sd card. Even when i tried to restore the backup using Rom Manager it fails me guys !
> I really want to restore the back up or install another very stable rom compatible with my HTC Wildfire
> When i hold vol- and power buttons and try to go to recovery, the phone hangs at the Revolutionary logo !
THE MIUI is slow and can't withstand stress as every time i try to do something fast it displays error messages. Pleasse help !!!

Hey yunus maybe u should download the stock rom for ur device from the net as the backup you created may have issues. Oh yeah u can flash the downloaded rom via odin.
Good luck and a happy new year and happy flashing.

I had this problem you mention with CWM in my N1: it couldn't access my sdcard. I finally had to flash a different recovery (Amon Ra in my case) which reads the sdcard with no problem at all.

ODIN is for Samsung phones. You need to run an official HTC RUU (ROM Update Utility) to restore HTC phones to stock.
@OP -
Download the RUU exe from the link below, connect your phone to computer via USB and run it as administrator. Your phone will be completely erased and restored to stock. I;m not sure if SD card will erased too, so make a backup of all its contents to be safe.
http://htcruu.com/securekey.php?fil...3.55.24H_3.35.19.25_release_151892_signed.exe
If you're from India, then run this instead -
http://htcruu.com/securekey.php?fil...45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_142213_signed.exe
You can find a list of more RUUs for your phone, for other regions and carriers at http://htcruu.com/?dir=Buzz
You've certainly messed something up, and your SD card might be corrupted too, so if you're not very knowledgeable about what you're doing, you're better off restoring to stock and starting over rather than trying a bunch of different fixes and messing up your phone more.

[q] help!!!! Im really worried

I tried to flash my rom to 2.3.3 but since i had it in the wrong folder it wouldnt let me so i restored to my old rom, but now its stuck at the boot screen(it says overstock) and its been like that for a while and im really worried!!! the rom its restoring to is sweethoney the latest version and i did it from clockwork recovery
does anyone know how to get pass the boot screen? im worried to turn my phone off
Sounds to me like you'll need to resort to odin.
You can always try to get into recovery mode first, and flash sweet honey again, then try restoring your backup.
is it just my phone, or when you flash the rom the rom has to be in the INTERNAL sd? i had my new rom on the external and i could find a way to access it =(
before odin, try going back to CWM Recovery and restore you orignal phone system, thats if you backed it up before you done any rom
We'll to you first question flash back to original with Obin and to you second you can only flash a new rom from your internal memory. Read the OP before you flash it tell you were to put it. Good Luck

Flashed rom, phone broke

I tried to install this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033653) on my friends Optimus T and something went wrong. I followed the instructions to the letter and after the format of the /system i couldn't actually flash the ROM because everything got deleted so i tried to restore the NANDROID that i had made and i couldn't because there was nothing there and now it just hangs at the boot up screen! PLEASE help me get this fixed
Well... may seem a bit obvious have you tried flashing a different rom from recovery yet? If you get really desperate I can supply you with the kdz file for titanium optimus 509.
Or u cud start a fresh wipe your sd card and store on of your fav roms on it and then flash it with recovery..Start afresh..If u can boot into recovery then no worries

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354 Try this rom. it installed just fine on my Optimus T titanium. I used clockwork recovery to do so. assuming you can get to recovery which from turned off hold volume down+home then power. If you can;t get to recovery you will probably have to use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865479 however you would have to do it from emergency mode instead
Only two options:
1. If you can access the Recovery menu, then clear everything and flash a ROM again.
2. If you cannot, just flashed an official fimware back with kdz (use the links provided in the posts above). Then start all over again.
Simple

I think the issue your having is that adding the ext partion formats the sd card. Thus, the zip you are trying to flash is no longer there and you nandroid was deleted also. Boot back into recovery and select the usb mount option, transfer the zip you want to flash and then flash it. Simples
Ciaox simply missed the line out where is should say copy *************.zip to sd card before the bit about flashing it. I think this time following the instructions to closely caused this lol Man up
thanks mates, got it working with a a CM7 port (actually I had to go through 3 because two didn't have the Market for some reason
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Glad you got this resolved. But for future ease of flashing download a flashable zip containing the market. such as the one listed in the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072252

How do I revert to complete stock?

I have galaxy sii GT-I9100 and I want to revert back to stock so i can cleanly install the new RR rom. Any help would be awesome. I was quite knowledgable with my old samsung infuse 4g, but this phone is a lot more complex than that one so please simple terms if possible
If you go to samfirmware download your desired rom then flash it in odin via the PDA section. This will return your phone to stock, but you will loose root. All the best.

If want to flash Reccuriton remix rom on ur s2 just root ur cell first than just install it from CMW there is no need to go complete stock for that...but if u r totally new to this after rooting make a BACKUP OF EFS first than start playing with roms.
Just flash stock firmware...... Download from sammobile.com samsung-update ....

If you want a fresh start just format system whilst performing your wipes. Only do this with a safe kernel as anything based on stock 4.0.4 will brick your phone. When I ever change ROMs I just run wipes and format system then flash my chosen rom. That is the correct site and you can flash any rom for your phone regardless of region. EFS back up is a separate tool which you download on to your pc which then backs up the EFS folder. There are other apps that do this too. I use them all, can never have too many copies of it.

So if I just do all the wipes, it should be all good? There is a lot of files that I don't want if they don't belong to my rom, should I delete some or what should I do? The basic thing I am trying to do is only have files from apps that I have and ones that the rom needs.

I understand what you're after factory reset, wipe dalvik and format system will give you a clean installation in terms of rom. If it's a complete wipe you can wipe the sd card from setting /backup and reset. But this will wipe music photos too. Once rooted you can always browse the directories and manually delete any unwanted files/folders. Please check your kernel first.

How to stock > custom rom > 100% same stock?
Hello,
did not want to start new thread with same name, but my question a little different.
So I bought S2 and I would like to play with some custom ROM of course. Not my first Android phone, but new phone new unknown things.
I read many post, but it is still not clear if I can make my stock rom and kernel backup, then root it, have some fun and if I need just restore stock rom and kernel and every thing would be as it was new?
I understand how to root and this CF-Root in Stock Recovery method looks like can do this. But will it be that way?
For example, with this method I have my stock kernel backup, also make stock rom backup, install some custom ROMs/kernels and later just install stock rom and restore stock kernel using this method and I am back to starting point?
Hi, to return your phone to stock all you need to do is:
Make note of your current ROM and download the same from samfirmware
Download Odin
Perform full wipes and format system in recovery mode
Then into download mode where you flash the stock ROM in the PDA section of doing.
Included will be a stock kernel and root would have been lost.
To reset binary counter look at the app triangle away by chain fire.
All the best.

@Handsy - Reaaly sorry to bump into someone else's thread.. Apologies..Curiosity took a toll on me..
In case i have a Nandroid backup and i wish to restore it, how do i do it? I mean, i am aware that i will have to do it using CWM Recovery. I have my Nandroid backup on my external SD card. To restore a back up:
Boot into recovery mode
In recovery mode enter back up and restored menu
Then select restore from external memory / sd card
Phone will restore to the time the back up was made.
Some kernels have different CWM menu layouts but the above should get you to the Nandroid backup you made.
All the best

Please help backup from sdcard!!!

Hi please please help,i have another pending issue but i doubt anyone will help. This issue is very straightforwards please help.
I am in android recovery mode. I select "apply update from sdcard"
I have on my sd card a backup i made from titanium backup app.
Clearly the two arnt compatible im guessing i need a .zip file. PLEASE where can i find a backup file to put on my sd card for gingerbread 2.3.4
I have mb860 (moto atrix 4g)
I'm not sure if I'm following you, are just trying to restore apps that were backed up in titanium? Or a full ROM? Do you have stock or a custom recovery? Did you make an update.zip in titanium or just backup the apps?

Sorry for not making any sense, ill post my problem in the most logical way i can in the atrix4g forum. But basically i moved an app called system tuner out lf my /system folder and this instantaneously made my phone not work and go to a battery screen. I made a backup but kept the .zip on the phone and moved the app user data to my pc. Basically i messed up. I thought i could use the sd card to restore all the information that i think was deleted but i guess im wrong... I need to use a sbf file or adb mode.
Every single file on xda which contains the sbf file i need is a broken link and the last three were virus's (granted the linker said he had no liability)
Im just desperate for a working phone..... I can load it up and it goes to a battery charging screen... Or i can select from modes like fastboot and abd...
I have everything installed just like back when i programmed... The sdk adb everything... But no working files AND I DONT KNOW HOW TO GET INTO ADB MODE TO LAUNCH A SHELL!!!!!!
Well if you have no custom recovery (which it sounds like) then use fastboot to flash a new recovery (so long as your bootloader allows. Then within this new recovery you should have adb access and also the ability to just flash a new ROM.

Apparently my bootloader is locked and i cant flash cwm to the recovery partition.. So i try to unlock bl with two seperate methods and still i get
(bootloader) EOM unlock not implementable.
I think its wrong files like the sbf thing wrong files? Idk... If u can help ill love you... I also have rsd lite.. I have everything lol just need a way to get into abd (unlock bl) or sbf..
Unfortunately I know little about Motorola phones as I've never owned one and haven't read to deeply about them, the best I can do is ask in your phone forum what the appropriate steps are
I assume if you read the stickied thread there should be something to help you along
Best of luck, and if you can't find what you need ask again and I'll dig into it

Cannot Locate My backup ROMs, Please Help!!!

Hi Everyone,
Really need your expert helps. I am quite freaked out now. I rooted my Note 2 with T-Mobile and recently have to unlock my phone due to traveling to a foreign country and need to use a differ carrier's SIM. I had to flashed the phone back to stock ROM in order to have the phone unlocked.
When I had my phone rooted with Cyanogenmod, I had 3 backup ROM's which were always able to be located by ROM Manager. I could just load the ROM and be on my merry ways. However, after the most recent stock ROM flash, the 3 backups are gone. I looked everywhere, going through every single folder in my phone and the backup images cannot be found. Did I screw up and the backups are gone because of this Unrooting, back to stock flash?
Basically, I thought I could just flash back to stock with Odin, unlock the phone, use Odin to root the phone again, and load one of my old backup images. At this point, I have the phone with stock ROM, unlocked the phone, rooted the phone again, and cannot locate any of the ROM's. If there is something I don't know and I can still load the backup ROM's, please help!!!

Was your sd card in during odin? You might have flashed it. Did you re-install rom manager and try recovering? Did you backup with your custom recovery CWM or TWRP? Hope you didn't wipe your sd card. I recommend always to make a backup and save it somewhere not on your phone i.e. cloud storage or another device like a laptop/computer.
If u had flashed stock rom it will remove all data in ur int sd card. I am sorry nothing can be done
