I have a Razr XT912 (original version) and I recently upgraded to Jelly Bean OTA 4.1.2. I really miss root access and I learned a method on how to keep root. I have to go to ICS first..... Is there any way to go back to ICS from Jelly Bean? Thanks.

Sorry. there is no way to go back to ICS.
You unfortunately will have to wait until a root exploit is available for our jellybean.

Hmm....NO!!!
I was messing around with the razr m launcher and somehow messed up my gallery and camera. So, the only fix was to flash back to ICS (which doesn't boot, of course) then reinstall the JB update. In that process - I lost root! Oh well, just hope a root method for JB is in the works! :fingers-crossed:
Haha yeah I hate ads!! Its like chrome without ad block. You just can't survive without it

I've just got back to ICS on my Droid Razr Maxx (Spyder).
I dont't know if was because I have installed safestrap before instal Cyanogemmod 10.1 (Jelly Beam), but when I deleted all the /SDCARD-0 files and rebooted my phone, everything gone back to how it was. The old operation system (4.0.4), the older programs, configs, everything just perfect.
Note that the /SDCARD-0 was the internal memory, not a real sdcard.
Boot OS already rooted.

So I'm interested in rooting my droid razr. My first question is what are the advantages. I just rooted my transformer prime and there were some really awesome tweaks that make the device much faster...is this the same for the razr?
I know from my searches that the root tool is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710871
and I know i need superuser and rootkeeper...I am on the new ICS 4.0.3 official OTA from verizon....other then that my razr and stock and never been tweaked in anyway.
Thanks!

Root it with the Ultility then use Ota rootkeeper to backup su. Then update to 4.0.4, restore the SU after that.
Use titanium backup to freeze the bloatwares is the first thing you could try.
This might be a stupid question but I'm on 4.0.3 now how do I upgrade to 4.0.4 and what is the difference.

never mind that was a stupid question I already have 4.0.4 (yea I know I'm a n00b).
Personally I don't think there is much point in rooting unless you want to try cm9 or miui. As the boot loader is locked there are no custom kernels which for me are the main reason for gaining root access.

Hi Forum. I need help. I rooted my phone before using motofail and the ICS is now available in my country.but the update failed/ and I verified that I need to unroot my phone first. I unrooted my xt910 via SuperSU/OTArootkeeper. looks like it works coz I no longer have the superuser on my phone. and ota rootkeeper/apps says that my phone is unrooted. but the ICS update still failed// I dont know what to do now. my current system version: 65.1.40.XT910.PSHAsiaRetail.en*.03

Yow.. Thx for the reply man. Will you please send a link of post or somethin related the compatible rsd file that I will use? I really have no idea. Should I root my phone before proceeding? Btw I didnt install/flash any ROM. My razr was just rooted

Sorry, being kind of a noob myself i don't know how to post links just search the forums and look for videos on YouTube, that's what I did, because the razr has a locked bootloader it's very hard to really ruin it, seems the devs have a fix for everything ! Good luck

So just read and follow the instructions given here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748944

I don't know if this will let me post a link yet, but the "Literally Fool Proof Guide To Installing .211 (ICS)" (Google that) was the guide that got the update installed for me. It involved wiping the phone, but it's worth it since I had the time to go through my Titanium backups, etc. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1692694
EDIT: BTW, I had to get Version 1.7 of Matt's DroidRAZRUtility to re-root after installing ICS 4.0.4 (i.e. the .211 update). Version 1.6 didn't root it. I did not need the "Modified" version 1.6, though; did the fastboot flashing with Matt's 1.6-final. I also had to install updated Motorola drivers (came with DroidRAZRUtility1.7forICS.zip) to reroot.

Hello. I may be repeating some other threads, but I could not find the answer. Is there a one click or other method to root a CDMA Motorola Droid Razr after update to Jelly Bean 4.1.2? The phone has never been rooted before.
Thanks guys!
+1 I'd like to know too, just in case. My phone is rooted I just want to know if I botch the install I can still get root.

I hope they find a root method soon. I bricked mine on the leak, and had to reinstall it, losing root in the process. You never realize how great root is until its gone lol.

There is a fix for those who were rooted and lost root during the update....
It is in this thread somewhere (sorry I don't have time to find it) You had to heve Voodoo OTA rootkeeper to start out with for the utility to work.
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...original-verizon-droid-razr-how-to-keep-root/
I'll keep browsing through what is or isn't compatible. Perhaps one of our amazing Dev's is already on this. Can't imagine it will be long
sicne you cant flash back to ics no, i voodoo'ed before i came over to JB and when when i checked root on JB with rootchecker from the app store it said it wasn't rooted, but titanium back up and other rooted apps said that the device was rooted properly. i ment to test it some more and make sure i was really rooted

I am in need of the same answer. Thanks for asking it.
If you were not rooted before updating to JB then there is no way (yet) to root JB.
I have to ask... Why would someone who was not rooted suddenly decide they needed root after updating? I can understand if you lost root due to being one of the ones that did get the OTA but why all of a sudden decide you need root.
Thread moved. Please post all questions here in Q&A in future.
Thanks

I am in the same boat as the OP so I will provide my reasoning for wanting root now.
This new stock JB load now forces a check against your verizon account when you attempt to turn on any form of tethering. This includes the builtin wireless hotspot AND unfortunately FoxFi wifi/bluetooth. So as of right now I went from an excellent mobile internet connection to share with my Asus TF700 tablet to now having no internet sharing capability.
Grrrrrrrrr......
I followed the thread's instructions above by using voodoo rootkeeper. (droidrzr - Matt's post: New JB update how to keep root)
When you are following Matt's instructions, DO NOT FORGET to update SU binaries. Do this before you protect root, then use voodoo to protect root, temp unroot. Then Protect root, then temp unroot AGAIN. Finally, PROTECT ROOT before you actually flash the update.
Worked for me like a charm. Now im trying to make a JB-leak rom

Unfortunately I got the true ota and thought it was an ICS update. So I didn't see the thread about the binaries so lost root and pulling my hair out till new root method comes out or I save enough for an S3 which ever comes first

same happened to me. Heard some of the devs are working though
Don't expect a quick solution for this from djrbliss...it is not likely to be coming soon.
Nobody else of his caliber is working on root exploits for Motorola devices unfortunately, and very few people understand the value and uniqueness of his contribution to the Motorola community.
He has rooted every Motorola device since the D3 and everyone who has used a rooted Motorola owes him a huge debt of gratitude.
Just sayin'...
I too lost root after my Jelly Bean update. Unless there is a better thread to keep my eye on, I'll keep my eye on this one for a rooting method for my RAZR XT912. If I hear of anything somewhere else, I'll come back here and let people know. I hope others will do the same.

Figured it out iguanad, with some help from others.
I used Matt's Unbrick utility. i can't post links yet so you'll have to google it.
After that, I reinstalled the jellybean leak update by sideloading it. Make sure you do a factory reset, and clear partition. Otherwise it messes **** up.
Then I rerooted, did my free hotspot stuff, and protected with OTA Root Keeper. After that I sideloaded the official jellybean update that I pulled this morning.
Yay

Check the post named Missing File. I pulled the update then installed it in recovery. It said there was an error on a particular file. When I downloaded a clean copy of the file in replaced it I was able to install the update.

Guys,
I'm desperate. I updated my Maxx (which I love) to 4.4 before my company did their security testing. Subsequently, the 4.4 update failed testing with corporate policies. Today I got email stating that I have to "return" my phone to IT by Jan 31. The 4.2.2 build works perfectly with corporate security policies.
Is there any way possible to revert to 4.2.2? I have downloaded installed and successfully got RSD Lite working but I don't think I can downgrade due to security differences...please help me if you know ANY WAY TO GET BACK...they are probably going to stick me with a Windows Phone until an update can be done that will fix the issues.
Argh!!!!
Thanks in advance.

You can revert to stock using Matt's utility (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192467). This will get you back to 4.1.2 though (I think).

No dice guys. I am wondering if a true Verizon Tech would be able to revert this device back to 4.2.2. I posted on the other thread but the software is not possible from Matt to revert back to 4.2.2.
Any ideas on getting back to 4.2.2?
Dude, you have the new Maxx. You have posted in the old Razr Maxx section, so the utility wont work. You need to find the new Droid Maxx section of these forums.
EDIT: You might ask the guys here if it is possible to rollback: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616104
Or use RSD: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=4, but I guess if you took the official update you can't rollback... If you flashed through SS or something you probably can.
