[Q] No sound on my SII after updating to ICS - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried many different stock and custom ICS ROMs on my SII and the sound wont work on any of them. Also any app using sound freezes and/or dies, including phone. The only ROM that works fully is stock Gingerbread.
The phone is parallel imported and has been flashed so many times I have no idea who the original carrier was . Is there any way to find out via the hardware?
I've given up on it myself and brought a Note II, but I would still like to get ICS working on it as I have given it to the misses. I don't know why ICS should have problems running on it as Gingerbread works fine.
Please, if anyone can help with this problem.
Model: GT-I9100

That's weird, just flash an unbranded 4.0.3. If not, check jb leak to see if it flies.

Just tried JB and same problem. I guess the misses will just have to stick with Gingerbread.

A good stable 2.3.4 ROM for samsung galaxy s

I am new to installing, updating, rooting and trying out such stuff on my phone. I would like to try out samsung's 2.3.4 rooted ROM with clockworkmod, but i am not sure which is a good and stable ROM for me. And, also, I dont know how to rollback to the previous ROM if anything goes wrong.
Currently, my SGS is running rooted 2.3.3 XWJVB ROM. But there are a few small issues with this ROM, one of which is the glowing back and settings touch buttons during movie playback, which irritates me.
Any kind of help or references to any links will be appreciated. Thanks.

[Request] Custom ROM Based on 2.3.3 S5830BUKPE

Hi,
I've tried two custom roms (CodeRom NexusAce, CodeROM v2x-2b), also S5830XXKPH from samfirmware and with all I experienced SOD.
For what I've read every other custom ROM and even S5830XXKPN have reports of people also experiencing SOD.
So I've flashed again branded stock rom and no SOD anymore. Firmware is 2.3.3 S5830BUKPE_S5830XWKP6_S5830TCLKP5 (Vodafone / Portugal)
Though I would like very much to use extended power menu but has not been tested for this firmware.
So my request to you brilliant devs is to create a custom rom based on this firmware. If in fact it is SOD proof it would be positive for everyone of us ACERS.

Thanks
You want us all to have phones branded to voda? Sorry mate I won't like that.
No.
What I mean is to use it as a base.
It can be rooted and Vodafone bootloader and branded apps can be removed. Just like russian apps that come with S5830XXKPH are removed in custom roms based on it. Right?
Okay.. just to let you know, everybody has different experiences with different firmwares. Some says KPH fixed the SOD in froyo but some said it doesn't. When KPN came out, many said no more SOD. But some users get a thousand a day.
Me? I've never had SOD. Weird how this works but just that you don't get SOD doesn't mean it's not the best base. Others will still get it, really.

[Q] ICS ROMS (Samsung based) and Wi-Fi Direct

Hi all,
Since I upgraded my SGS2 to ICS my Wi-Fi Direct refusing to work properly. I can find my other devices but can't send files etc...
Did someone get Wi-Fi Direct working properly with ICS ?
Thanks
I have used it a couple times on ICS and it worked fine.
Exactly the same problem here, stock ics lpq rom..
Have tried transferring files between sgs2 and a Samsung 10.1 tab running honeycomb and like you I can connect but not transfer..
Hopefully Samsung will update to 4.0.4 and fix some of the (many) bugs in ics, within the nearest future..

[Q] Stock 4.0.4 + Siyah 5.0.1 = no more home button lag(?)

Hi all,
Scenario: got tired of unstable custom ROMs, did a full wipe(/data/system/cache) flashed stock rom (4.0.4 XEN) for my region. After setting up the first time ran Odin again to root with new Siyah v5.0.1. Got rid off Vlingo using Apex launcher trick(or Go launcher EX).
Now I noticed tonight I no longer have any home button lag with only the above changes to my phone. In other words happy me. However I cannot find any suggestions for any home button lag fix in Siyah's changelogs while the Vlingo assistant with it's annoying lag was present at first boot before kicking it off with the launcher trick. Now this used to result in no more Vlingo but still lag when pressing home.
Does anyone know if anything changed in the Stock rom 4.0.4 or Siyah 5.0.1? Don't get me wrong, happy with the result Just curious.
This is just from personal experience of using my galaxy s2 and by no means an expert...
But I never use the stock rom (with the exception of gingerbread) because anything after gingerbread lags like hell on my s2.
The only reason I can think of are the bloatware from samsung taking up all the hardware resources of the phone, thus slowing it down. Whereas I find most custom rom "cleaned" up the phone and require less resource to run.
I don't believe there is a problem with the kernel but I can be wrong!
If you are afraid of unstable custom rom, why not try CM9 stable mod? It has served me greatly.

This isn't about bloatware but the delay which was programmed into the stock to wait for a second press on the home key because of voice commands/Vlingo. In 4.0.3 deleting Vlingo did not fix the lag because it was hardcoded in the stock ROM.

[Q] P7510 on ICS 4.0.4 (XWLP5): unstable WiFi

Dear all,
I noticed that my P7510 running on ICS 4.0.4 (XWLP5) has an unstable WiFi connection when the received WiFi signal strength is not maximum (2 or 3 out of 4 bars). Connection often disappears and when trying to reconnect to the WiFi network manually, the there is no response. Turning off / on Wifi on my Tab is no solution to the problem either. Even a full reboot does not always help. I updated from HC 3.2 to ICS 4.0.4. after full flasing HC 3.2 first.
Is this a known issue? I cannot find any decent info on this. Or is there a ROM that fixes this? Please help. Thanks in advance.
I had no problem with the WiFi what so ever not with 4.04 and not with cm 10 jelly bean
Did you have that problem on 3.2?
Try and flash the official ICS from sammobile with odin
Thankfor replying. I did not have this issue HC 3.2. I went back to stock HC3.2 and updated via WiFi to official ICS v4.0.4. No official releases for my country for P7510 are available for my Tab, but other official ICS v4.0.4 versions I tried from Sammobile have same issue.
I'm thinking to go to CM 10 release, but since wiping is required and my P7510 has brick bug, I'm hesitating to do this operation.
Try the sammobile UK version that's what iam running and it had no problems
Cm10 is faster than official ics and gives u much more options It's a better experience at least for me except for a bug or tow but some people don't even notice them
About the brick bug I don't know what that is cause I had no problems wiping data so i can't help u their sorry
Sent from galaxy tab 10.1

I already tried UK version from Sammobile, same WiFi issue when signal strength is not maximum. Regarding the brick bug: check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879941

I don't know what it's not working for you every thing oky with me
About the brick bug....... I just checked and as it turned out I too have the brick bug and I have actually ran EXPERIMENTAL-p4.zip
I have wiped the data and installed custom roms more than I can count......i don't know maybe it's over-rated or iam just lucky!!
Iam afraid to do it again now but he says here "Avoiding brick:
The only danger now seems to bi if you are on stock ICS ROM and you execute factory/data reset in Samsung recovery.
If you are using custom ROMs and CWM you should be safe because all custom ROMs/krenels have now removed mmc_cap_erase() from list of capabilities."
Iam running a custom rom so I don't know.....
